Twin Limbs 9
Jim 10:15
Been looking forward to this show for a while but 10:15 is a brutally late start time for a weeknight gig. Might be the latest start I can remember for a Boston show from any band.
Probably gonna have to leave early unfortunately.
yeah my heart really sunk when I saw this too. I mean, what's the point? 8 am work meeting is gonna be brutal.

Only thing I can think of is it's going to be like his State of the Art tour. Full album run through then a few encores.. super short show for those who can remember.
Fuuuckkkkkkk! I've got ticket for both nights too.
That was amazing! AEIOU, Cohen tribute, Dear God, closing w Down on the Bottom. Twin Limb was a great surprise. Entire backing band was awesome behind Jim!
My takeaways from last night are as follows:
1) Jim James is an absolute rock God. He is the closest thing rock music has right now to an actual rock star. Just commands a stage and is so f'n cool. Every time I see him solo or with MMJ I am reminded of it.
2) I forgot how much I loved State of the Art. Definitely preferred hearing his older tunes last night, that being said I also loved the new tracks.
3) After seeing Jim solo and Carl solo this year it's obvious who MMJ is.
4) Twin Limbs is a great backing band but their solo stuff didn't do much for me.. The guitar player also got drowned in the mix, hopefully they turn him up going forward.
5) Jim kills on electric piano, although I wish he picked up that axe a little more often throughout the night. His ES was just teasing us front and center all night long.
Show highlights
1) All is Forgiven - Easily my favorite tune of the night, Jim's Vocal range on this song was absolutely incredible. Just an extremely moving/haunting/chilling version
2) Hide in plain site - I believe this was the second song played, Jim just shredded in the intro. Straight face melter.. Please correct me if this isn't the right tune associated with that amazing solo.
3) AEIOU - Jacket style, always awesome
4) We ain't getting any younger - favorite song on the new album, was just as rad live.
5) Dear One - Grooviest tune of the night. His Bass player way laying the groove all night long.. on a jr bass no less.
Unfortunately forced myself to leave after AEIOU so missed the encores.. Going on 4 hours of sleep but well worth it, wish i was going again tonight.
Please tell me "I'm Set Free" was a VU cover!

Yes indeed.
was the Royale pretty full? got the vibe that it may not have been selling that well.
I'm heading in tonight. does he go on right at 10:15? 'bout how long is the set. ...it's sooo late :(

half full, the upstairs was closed. Two weeknight shows was definitely aggressive. Yes, he does go on at 10:15 not sure what time it ended but i left at 11:30.
Royale kind of sucks as a concert venue, the center area directly in front of the stage has an 8 inch riser, due to the VIP section on club nights. If you're stuck behind that you're looking up.
I'm going tonight too. Hopefully I won't get shit for shooting videos

Last night Jim was on from 10:15 - 12:10
Other than a late night before a work day, it all sounds great. I'm more excited for Saturday than ever. Two hour show plus all the good stuff jbpats reported..... I am stoked! Down on the Bottom, which I think is an amazing song, will really give Jim a chance to belt one out instead of the quieter/whisper type vocal style on much of EE. Down on the Bottom would have been a nice surprise to see had I not read the posts above, but I was too tempted to get some info. Have another good one tonight Boston folks.

Man this VU cover I GOTTA see!!! Hoping it sticks in the set. One of my absolute favorite tunes.
Hi everyone was just wondering who was in the band any old members or all new people
dave ratterman (sp?) is in the band and was last time. I think everyone else is new. Show was very good, I'd stop a notch short of declaring it great, but still a fun time on a Tuesday night. I also recognize it was the first night of the tour, and I think it was the new stuff that was a little lacking for me, so by the time they get rolling, it could be pretty special.
And, His Masters Voice was on the setlist but skipped. That really bummed me out, as I absolutely love that song. Even when JJ is in MMJ, it seems the songs he skips on the setlist are the ones that really pain me.
anybody have the setlist from last night?
Curious to see how much he switched it up.. Although i don't believe he is really doing two nights anywhere else?
