Title: Is Jim James really Wayne Coyne?
Post by: Slavek on Dec 27, 2005, 12:28 AM
I have just aquired the "z" cd.  Does anyone have trouble getting ovetr the fact that Jim sounds exactly like Wayne Coyne from the Flaming Lips?
Is this easy to get over?

I suppose you're right, Wayne Coyne does sound a bit like Jim. Keep listening. You'll get over it. Check out the other albums and ep's. You'll soon see how versatile Jim's voice is. Comparisons have been made with a number of other people, but Jim's voice is very special.

I think there are some similarities, but JJ can stay in pitch and carry a tune better than Wayne. Wayne's range is also much more limited than JJ's.

I love Wayne, I'm just sayin'.

i like the flaming lips but i feel like wayne coyne's voice is kind of affected. like he's *trying* to sound strained and pitchy, like it's a bit of an inside joke. in contrast, i think jim's voice is really warm and earnest. i dunno, everytime i listen to yoshimi i think someone's pulling a fast one on me, whereas when i listen to anything mmj i feel like the band is sending me a big hug.
