Yo, I was at Lane Bryant trying to find a bra that fits my otherwise not Lane Bryant-y body and I heard "Anytime" and shouted to my husband, "oh my god, it's the Jacket" and that was awesome...
Ever walk into Wal-Mart and hear Off the Record or something?
That's weeeeird, wellfleet. Why just yesterday I was calling a place that manufactures cds, and I got the secretary, and I said "Hey, waaaaait a minute, that's Into the Woods!" And she was like, "Um, yeah whatever, here's (so and so)" So I'm talking to the dude, and then I heard Anytime, so I knew they were playing Z, and so I said "Hey, you guys are listening to My Morning Jacket!" And then we started talking about how much we love them, and then I got a deal!!!!
Thank you My Morning Jacket! Just for being. :)
they played part of "Off the Record" on Best Week Ever on VH1
Honestly, it was in a dream of mine. It involved Rod Stewart shooting a pelican, a hunt for a shark, dead koi fish, kids using dryer sheets to smell nice, among other things. I ended up at a casino and in the elevator Bermuda Highway was playing (ironically he was singing about silly dreams...) and in my dream I hadnt heard music in 5 years so I started to cry over the power of Jim's voice. I woke up.
anyway, back to the topic at hand. Here at George Mason University, I went into the radio station ( a friend was touring me around in it) and i was about to ask if they had any MMJ to play.....before I even said anything the lady was putting in Z and I basically flipped out and then It Beats 4 U played in the hallway outside. It rocked socks.
you have very trippy dreams! :)
coming out of a guys car that drove past as i was walking down the street in san francisco. golden was playing. this was a couple of summers ago.
I saw the video for Off The Record on a Japanese music channel just after it was released.
Not that strange you might argue but I was very surprised at the time.
Slightly different, I was in HMV yesterday when I saw a Japanese girl with a copy of the Acoustic EP in her hand! I wanted to go over & talk to her about the Jacket but was worried she might have thought I was hitting on her so I didn't.
I really regret it now :-[
i :-* HMV...
well, coz i used to work there... but i really really really think it's awesome. i was sad to leave it before Z came out because i would have pushed the hell out of it.
aaawww... i miss work... :o
Hey Wellfleet, long time no see!
I have to be honest, I prefer independent record stores but most of them over here are specialist shops like vinyl or hip-hop only etc.
I did find one very cool Heavy Metal CD store - my wife waits outside when I shop there ;D
I heard Anytime at Old Navy at Christmas time. That was funny.
Quoteyou have very trippy dreams! :)
Seriously! That has to be the strangest dream I have ever had...ever. This one really shook me, I never have woken up from a dream feeling so odd! I definately went to anthropology the next day just writing down the dream and drawing crude pictures really fast before I forgot any spicey details.

I heard it at Old Navy as well... Must be on their playlist.
I heard it when I was showering.........
When I went home for Christmas to a small town in eastern Kentucky, I was drinking in a small ass bar and Off the Record came on. I don't if they had it on the radio or the jukebox but it was a surreal moment for me.
oddly enough i dreamed about mmj last night - it was really hot here last night so that might have had something to do with it.. really not that wacky a dream but here goes
i was sitting watching rage (a quality music video program) when all of a sudden a video for i will be there when you die comes on - mostly just jim sitting there, singing into the camera, but he had some weird bushy-moustache thing going on, and it was a new video (even though i distinctly remember thinking that the song was from tennessee fire, which is from quite a while ago)... weird how the subconscious mind works!!
Mentioned it last week but it's still wierd hearing Gideon advertising "new drama for Monday nights on Itv1".
I heard "off le record" while walking past this hollister-esque store called Jimmy'z. then i passed it again a couple of days ago and heard Kissing the lipless" by the shins. then it was ruined by hearing this shitty screamo song right after it.
QuoteI heard it when I was showering.........
You are not alone. 47% of Canadians shower to At Dawn almost every morning. Truth.
Only 3% of Albertans do so, hence the TERRIBLE election stats out there.
I heard "One Big Holiday" on the pilot episode of what seems to be a now defunct ABC show called "Injustice" on a DVD that my wife picked up from a colleague at her work.

Speaking of Juke Boxes, I have been away from the bar scene for awhile (two kids under the age of 4 will do that-I just get drunk at home now) So anyway two weekends ago we went to the wineries and then ended up at a little hole in the wall bar. They had this digital jukebox that you could download songs on. Well, it contained standard songs that cost about 50 cents each, but if you searched for off the wall stuff you had to pay about a buck for the song. Well shit. You know the first thing I did was type in
My Morning Jacket and what do you know but the entire
ISM, Z and
Chocolate and Ice albums came up. Of course my first thought was
Cobra so I could get my money's worth but before you know it, I'm lining them up like there's no tommorow. This is not a good thing.
Drunk+MMJ+Pocket Full of One Dollar Bills=Broke
About $20 later, the whole place was looking at me like I had a hole in my head. "What is this music?" ,they thought.
Anyway, word of warning. Stay away from the magic music box. It's worse than a strip bar.

I saw one of those at a bar in the Little Five Points area of Atlanta last thanksgiving weekend. What a great idea! No one was paying for particular music on this one and it would play random songs, almost all of which were outstanding. Very cool indeed.
i am a fan of picking that obscure deep 8-9 minute track to freak out the bar. beware of the bar with the skip button behind the bar for crap jukebox selections....
on topic, yesterday I heard MMJ while standing in line at the sandwich chain - Quiznos
t.o.p
mmmm... toasty!
I heard "Lay Low," at 11.30 pm one night. I was setting my alarm to "radio" and as I checked to see if the volume was high enough by turning the radio on, I heard the song and listened to it all the way through. At first I was like WTF?? cuz i never hear the jacket on the radio except for golden and one big holiday. But, this was also on some random 88.5 radio station. I was staying at my sister's house and so I didn't know what the station was set to but it looked like something in the 800's. It was a pleasant surprise ;D
I was at my girlfriends house playing poker online last night and all of a sudden I hear "off the record". I look up and it's the concluding song on that show "How I met your mother" (terrible show by the way), it was just weird that I check the message boards and see this thread after last night...
Last night on How I Met Your Mother in the background Off the record was playing.
i heard one big holiday on a commercial for the olympics snowboard cross
Yesterday, whilst browsing through the St. Patty's cards at Target, I thought to myself, "Fuck me in the ass, is that Anytime I keep hearing?" I looked around, back and forth, and realized that not only was the song playing through Target's speakers, but the Music Video was playing on every single TV in the store.
Awesome!
they have a video for Anytime?
HEY! you can't say fuck me in the ass at target. you can't even think it!
Quotethey have a video for Anytime?
Yeah, is that right?!
Last night Jen told me that the dude who wrote and directed a play she was in was using X-Mas Curtain as the final music in the play!!! And HE knew the song because he heard it on the ultimate mmj mix, as created by me for her two years ago, which still gets constant rotation. It is even
preferred to the regular discs by some.
Anyhow, they didn't end up using it in the end for some reason or another. And, just to be clear in the legal department, it would have had the proper copyrighting and appropriate legalities that go along with that kind of thing. :)
I promise you guys, I am not fucking you in the ass here (especially wellfleet, as you're married, and your husband could probably kick my ass) - but it was definately Anytime, and it was definately a bonafide music video, as it had the usual end credits on the bottom left-hand corner (My Morning Jacket, Anytime, Z, ATO Records, I believe)...
I had no idea there was a video for Anytime, either, until now... I'm thinking about calling Target and seeing if the Manager could smuggle me the tape...
Although I missed most of the video whilst wondering where the hell the song was coming from, I can tell you it has a couple of highschool kids running around with a book bag... at the end the contents of the bag get dumped into a trash can.
ha
in Myrtle Beach SC. i was shopping at Barefoot Landing. a bar there JUST opened, i think it was aroun 11:00am. i walked in as the bartender opened the doors. i was the only one there and it was silent as he got me a bottle of beer. i just lit a cigarette and Golden came on. it was weirdo

Sweetest of peas, I think that's the Off The Record video. Unless they're doing a series. :)
Maybe they just dubbed Anytime over the Off the Record video?
i was just at Target in Lexington, KY and saw the same video...however it was definitely "Off The Record" playing as well as the video for the song....VERY RANDOM!
QuoteMaybe they just dubbed Anytime over the Off the Record video?
It's entirely possible that I'm wrong, though. There really could be an Anytime video that's like the OTR video, and I just don't know about it. There are many many things that EC does not know. ;)
Many.
i sware mmj are the most known unknown
yep, the other day my girlfriend and i were in Target and "off the record" was playing from over near the electronics section! she and i looked at eachother and she said, "do you hear...?" and we just looked at eachother and grinned- it was cool, so unexpected but glorious!
gotta love 'em
peace
I guess it wasn't Anytime, afterall...
*Ashamed, becomes a life-long hermit*
The end.

As if. Honey, if I counted how many times I've got shit wrong, I would've been a hermit AGES ago. Seriously.
Still not sure if you're wrong, though. It would kind of exciting to think that there's a new video for Anytime. :)
I think they should make a sexy one for Lay Low.
i just heard "It's About Twilight Now" on TV for a local restaurant called "Gale and Dale's" or "Dale and Gale's"...i assume it is in Louisville...it says it is on Happy Valley Rd.
anybody know where this is?
This is my first post but i love this site because it's classic YABB smilies and tags cool. I live in Louisville and i've never seen a happy valley road and i swear to god i've driven everywhere in louisville. i might be wrong though it could be an obscure road.

have you ever heard of the restaurant? it was very low budget and seemed to be a family restaurant..not fancy at all...probably a hole in the wall.
the best place at random: my wedding
favorite place/time/song: in the car, golden, i sing it to my wife.
most often: any song(s) any friday night at josh's house during foosball.
randomest place: certain pittsburgh bars, then you make new friends.
Here is my story.
I had recently discovered Harp magazine (Christmas 2003)
and noticed this as of yet unheard of band MMJ's album It Still Moves was the artist of the year. SO I purchase it. I haven't listened to it yet when I am waiting for my wife in an American Eagle Outfitter store (Sudbury, Ontario). This song comes on and I think this is good. The song seems to follow me around the store. Instead of being mindless background fodder, it seems to be getting better and better. I ask two employees who it is and they can't tell me. All they can muster is "we get our music from the Company". Pretty clueless. A short time later in the car we play It Still Moves for the First Time, and there's the song again One Big Holiday.
Freakee.

lying on my back getting my teeth cleaned today i heard off the record come on. it was like my own personalized dentist's office soundtrack
