ladies and gents,
i was reading the "new shows" thread, and wanted to give you official word that there are no new show dates, INCLUDING THE RYMAN IN NASHVILLE. we have no idea how these miscommunications take place, and sincerely apologize for any inconveniences this rumor may have caused.
we love you :-*

Thanks :)
:) thanks for the heads up!
we love you too! :-*
Well, I just threw $60 bucks down the drain........That's not as bad as the realization that I won't be seeing the band at the Ryman. Thanks for the clarification Patrick. Sorry to all those I may have mislead but I wouldn't have posted my thoughts unless I believed them with all my heart, and I sure as fuck wouldn't have blown $60 bucks on concerts I won't be attending. Oh Well. To top it off I can't find a copy of any of the early recording cd's anywhere in the city of Knoxville and they were supposed to be out today.
Who is this Patrick fella and what does he know anyway? :)
Either way, I'm too damn broke to be able to afford to see a show right now. Too bad my city doesn't have a decent venue because I have to make a special trip out of town to see good bands which means that I have to spend extra money which means that my show-seeing is few and far between. :(
(yes, that last sentence is long and stupid.)
Thats really short compared to most of mine. I swear I win the award for worst grammer on the board. And Guess What.............I was an English Lit Major!!!!!! :o

But Brian it might be a really good show. Go and enjoy it :D
yo, I concur with dr. it's not wasted $$ if the show is any good at all. try and get something good out of it!
no apologies necessary, my friend. i too have been swept away by the mania that is upcoming shows (who here hasn't?) ;D
say, aren't you fairly close to Louisville?
yo, come on up for some drinks and good times. also, the darla site has the early recordings on sale there, why not have them shipped to you?? :)

'wiggum, it can be your town, it can be a bigger town. Sometimes they just don't come as much as you'd like. Sometimes you have to travel to Nashville just to see 'em. ;)
And your sentence isn't stupid.
Maybe you should get some of the people in your town to build a good music venue? Maybe your town could become the new excellent place to play music, the nice intimate venue in the smaller town that all the musicians want to play. I'm sure your city council is wondering what to do with all their money, right? :)
That's a big issue in this town. We're known for the music that was made here in the 60s and 70s, but this place has a way of dragging people down these days. There are stupid outdated laws that prohibit alcohol in certain areas of town, which pretty much means that the bars have to be built across the river. The ones that do open over there are run by stupid people that prefer to hire cover bands the majority of the times.
It's a no-win situation. There actually is a good venue that opened recently, but it only holds 500 or so people and is very expensive to rent. I think that keeps some bands away...
:(
Hm. I think an overhaul of some of these weird old laws needs to happen. It was you who said that beer on tap is illegal in your neck of the woods, right? I can't even figure out why that would be a law, for religious reasons, for any reasons. But the US has some weird ones. Well, so do we. Especially in our own bible belt.

Cool, thanks for the offer John. I WILL see MMJ in Louisville before I die and I would love to meet up with you when that day comes around. Actually a couple of the local bands in Knoxville that I go see (P.Jones, Plan A) are really good friends with the Louisville Band Digby and they mentioned that Digby could possibly open for MMJ at headliners this upcoming year, in which case I will without a doubt be there. With a bunch of other fuckers from Knoxvegas.
By the way since everyone else is promoting bands on this site, here is a link to our friends "Plan A" Website. They are really cool guys (despite that lame ass picture on the cover of the website), Matt writes some pretty cool songs and I love his voice, I also feel like he is a genuine kind of human and that translates in his songs. Love to hear what you all think about the songs so check em out. They worked really hard on putting this record out and I'm really proud of them.

pretty cool stuff on that Plan A site :)
Look. Its 2005 already. Any news or no news on the new show front?

no news yet.
there's rehearsing.
after that there's recording.
and after that i'm sure it's all about the shows again ;)
Quotethere's rehearsing
Holy crap that just made me very excited.
that all that matters......
D.
Hallelujah
A new baby is coming our way. :D
Whoop! Whoop!
I heard from a very knowledgable source that the recording will most likely be in rural New York state. My guess is that they would like the album to come out around the time of their motion picture debut in order to take advantage of a much broader fanbase.
When is the movie coming out? It seems like it should be coming out fairly soon. I would think a new album is at least 8 months away. Seeing how they haven't started recording yet. They might sell a few extra albums if the two come out at the same time, but I would like to think Jim wouldn't rush anything.
I think the movie's tentative release date is sometime in late July. I definitely agree that Jim wouldn't rush anything out just to get more attention.
Can anyone inform me regarding the movie they did?
I can't seem to find this thread.

Hey thx Sal!
That looks very promising indeed. The film is already mentionned on www.allmovie.com (but still as "in production")
I noticed Loudon Wainwright III also got a role. Wow, I like the Guy.
Any release date, yet?
2012 in Belgium, allegedly, according to absolutecack.com.
Word.
Thx for this hot information, greggy!
I already bought the tickets ;D
;D
Oh my GOD! Have I been living in a bubble? What is wrong with me? (You don't read the goddamn music section for a week, and look what happens!)
Neko Case Jan. 16
Joel Plaskett Emergency Jan. 22
Bobby Bare Jr. Jan. 24
Joel Plaskett AGAIN on the 29th
YANNI Feb. 2 (just kidding, although I bet it'd be nice)
Motley Crue Feb. 23
And M. Ward Feb. 27 (This is the part that made my heart stop this morning. Does anyone (Riny) know if Jim's gonna be joining on that show? My guess is no, because, well it's not listed and you're pretty good about that. And they're probably recording and writing. But, ah, you know, if you know otherwise, it would be appreciated! If you're allowed to tell, that is...)
p.s. This is Toronto, by the way.
p.p.s. hellacious and 'wiggum, I wish you were here to be my concert dates! Road trip, anyone? Late (fun!) wedding present to the wife? :)

I really don't know and my guess is also no ;)
but in any case, m. ward only is worth goin!
Yeah, I figure you're probably right.
I am going to go. After watching the ACL clip, that dude plays the mandolin! That's already good enough for me!
p.s. Thanks for sayin'!
p.p.s. If you hear otherwise, please feel free to say!
p.p.p.s. I want to give you props because every time I click on something here, I'm always very impressed by how you organize this board. ALWAYS new windows (which is so good). I love that! You're meticulosity (ha) is very much appreciated.
always new windows?
that's not supposed to happen.
it's not happening here.
p.s. if it happens to you and you like it, guess it's cool.
p.p.s. i'm confused.
Sorry. That was stupid of me.
Always new windows when you click on anything foreign to the site. Always the same windows when you're staying withing the site.
Like, if I go to the press section, say, and click on an article, I'll have a new window for that article, and I don't leave the mmj board. But if I click on the "Making of the One Big Holiday" video, I'll stay here...
Or, in the forum, if someone posts a link, if I click on that link, I still stay in the forum, and have a new window for the link.
It just makes it easier not to lose my place.
aha, now i get it ;)
(hey, you never said what your picture was... I seem to recall you saying that we would find out soon enough... It has now become a robot to me - as opposed to a picnic bench with a cake.)
(did you make it?)
ah, yeah.
mmj shirt design.
it was available at shows. limited run i think.
as you can see, not a picnic bench with a cake ;)

WOAH!
It alllll makes sense now. Wicked.
Okay, back to the "No New Shows".
This M. Ward show in Toronto could possibly be promotional for his new record... Therefore, guest artists are possible... Because, man, who wouldn't want to come to Toronto? (come ON, Jim, you know you want to!)
That is my throwout vibe to the Universe today.
Maybe there will be more than just Bonnaroo. Pitchfork announced today that M. Ward will be touring with MMJ for a nationwide tour beginning in May. This makes me very excited since I can't go to Bonnaroo this year.

M. Ward Preps His Fourth Album For Merge
Micah C. Harding reports:
The rustic but personable M. Ward is preparing to release his fourth full-length album this winter. Entitled Transistor Radio, the album is slated for a February 22 arrival via Merge and follows his highly acclaimed 2003 effort Transfiguration of Vincent.
Ward recorded Transistor Radio during his often sparse amounts of spare time in 2004, between playing guitar with Bright Eyes at the 2004 Coachella festival, appearing on The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn, and playing a pair of collaborative tours with Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes and Jim James of My Morning Jacket. However hard it may be to believe given the numerous ties, he doesn't really sound a thing like Bright Eyes. Give it a try:
01 You Still Believe in Me
02 One Life Away
03 Sweethearts on Parade
04 Hi-Fi
05 Fuel for Fire
06 Four Hours in Washington
07 Regeneration No. 1
08 Big Boat
09 Paul's Song
10 Radio Campaign
11 Here Comes the Sun Again
12 Deep Dark Well
13 Oh Take Me Back
14 I'll Be Yr Bird
15 Lullaby + Exile
16 Well-Tempered Clavier
Ward is planning a brief U.S. tour, which will kick off three days after the LP's release. He'll then go on a nationwide tour with My Morning Jacket starting in early May, which will include a May 6 live set for KCRW's famed "Morning Becomes Eclectic" show. For now, dates:
02-25 Chicago, IL - Schuba's Tavern
03-02 New York, NY - Knitting Factory
03-04 Northampton, MA - Iron Horse
03-05 Boston, MA - Remis Auditorium
03-24 San Francisco, CA - Slim's
03-29 Los Angeles, CA - Troubadour
I seriously just got the shakes - those good shakes you get... Maybe shivers is better.
May is so SOON!
See, the problem is that I get so excited when I hear news like this that I can't get on with the rest of my day. I just want to sit around and think about how great that concert's gonna be.
I need a personal assistant who can plan my life for me, and not tell me what's going to happen. Just tell me as it's happening. Like:
"Hey, we're going to the grocery store right now."
or
"Hey, we're about to jump in a cab and go to the Horseshoe to see My Morning Jacket now."
ohboyohboyohboyohboyohboy!!!
Okay, so I was just thinking about it in the shower, and I thought "Hey, if they're gonna tour, does that mean a new record'll be out before May?"
Just when I thought I was gonna explode...
I would think that the album would probably not be ready by May since they are still writing right now. I have never made a record before, but my guess is that it will come out more likely in the summer. Either way, gotta love the fact that they will be touring (hopefully!) approximately four months from now. I graduate in May and cannot think of a better graduation present than getting to see them perform new songs.
These last two days, in my opinion, have brought some fire back into the forum and we haven't had to search for topics like NFL playoffs, is Jim married, or whether Napoleon Dynamite is awesome with the bow-staff. For now, even if the tour doesn't materialize, there is hope of a light (even lazers) at the end of the tunnel. If Slint can reunite this year; nothing is impossible.
