Title: Live Bonnaroo Question
Post by: chunt983 on Feb 21, 2005, 04:15 PM
I know there is another thread about this, but this is more of a technical question. I am planning on buying the MMJ live CD but I'm not sure if I should buy the MP3 format or the FLAC. I get confused when it comes to different sound formats. I know flac is better sound, and lossless, but can I burn that sound format to a CD? I'm confused that IF I buy the FLAC format, will it be easy for me to slap it on a cd, or am I going to have to convert it to MP3 to make a CD w/ it.

and what are the tracks like on the CD? Any badass electric jamming? I always watch that "behind the scenes w/ MMJ" video on the main page, and at the end there is that wicked "phone went west" ending that's all electric and just the guys jamming. is that one on the CD or is it more like the album version?

I would get the FLAC.Very easy to convert to wave format...check this link...it has a free FLAC frontend download that does the converting:

The version of "At Dawn" is beautiful. Beautiful, I say.

And yes, "Phone Went West" is awesome on that CD as well.

I just downloaded it.  ;D I like what I hear so far. Now if only i didn't buy a batch of CD-Rs that are all bum discs. These things piss me off.

woah, hang on, whats up with all the bum notes in the "Steam Engine" solo? maybe its intentional? I'll need to give it a few listens at full volume in my car...

check out the beginning of the solo from Steam Engine. I'm listening at alower volume, he may merely change keys, but i coudlnt tell because my computer speakers are crap. But it sounds like he's soloing a bit out of key.

I think that's when the rainstorm hit them full frontal.
maybe that's why it sounds a little different ;)

oh man, knowing that made me smile and shiver. I soooo wish I had been there for that. There will never be a concert quite liek that one, I'm sure.

You are right--the band was 5 minutes away of death (either through being electrocuted or by the 5 ton swinging speakers falling on them).  They were the only band at bonnaroo, although I am partial, that could capture and take advantage of the weather conditions like they did.  If a Live DVD ever came out from last year--"steam engine" better be on there.

any clue if they filmed it? Imagine the DVD - Return to Thunderdome. I want to see the footage of that sucker.
