Awesome news from da 'ville! WFPK just announced this morning that Wilco is coming to the Louisville Palace on June 30th. As you know MMJ is scheduled to open for them through the 29th. I see no reason why MMJ wouldn't be opening or maybe co-headlining with Wilco at the Palace. It's sounds too good to be true but that would be a beautiful evening if it does comes to pass. Tickets go on sale Friday, but there has been no official statement about MMJ as of yet.
Just so you don't think I'm making it up, here is a link:

Quoteno. shit. riny, do you have the confirm on this?
I can confirm Wilco will be playing but know nothing yet about the opening...
It is going to be awesome. They haven't played in Louisville since the Summer of 2002 and since they are going into the studio apparently in August to record--we might be privileged with some new songs. Was fortunately able to get 3rd row tix today.
how'd you get tix today?!
I thought they were on sale Saturday!
They had pre sale tickets through the Wilco website.By the time I found out there were already sold out of the the pre sale tickets.Wish someone could have let others know earlier.Oh well,I'll try my luck this Saturday.

Not to be a dickhead--but the Jacket has played in Louisville several times since the Summer of 2002: including early January 2003 at Headliner's, two nights in a row at Headliner's in Sept. 2003, and Lebowski Fest last Summer. They also played Live Lunch in December 2002.
Also, they've been recording the new album from January-March in the Catskills. Hopefully, it will be out by August. It is reportedly entitled "Z."

I'm pretty sure he was talking about Wilco.

Sorry, easing on the angst, I was referring to Wilco--not MMJ.
Rhhhh.....sorry about that.
Got my tix! ;D
Here's hoping MMJ is playing, or I may have 2 tix for sale!
I hate to be stingy about the information I share but I also don't want to leak too much info. However, now that I have my tickets I can personally guarantee that MMJ is opening for Wilco at the Palace on June 30th. I can't tell you how I know but it is true. I tried to hint at it with my earlier post, but now that tickets are on sell I think the cat can come out of its bag. Sorry, if I ruined the band's surprise but I thought that the forum should hear the glorious news. I hope everyone who wants to go can get tickets, I'll see you there!
We got our 2 tix this morning.I'm with you Tundra and hope that the Jacket is truly opening for Wilco. Not that I don't believe you aMillionDreams but we had a lot of false hopes before. But it definitely seems very likely that they should be the opening act.
yeah, come to think of it, I probably wouldn't believe me either. However, perhaps after MMJ opens the show you'll know that my info is legit.
Hey aMillionDreams,I also got a very reliable comfirmation last night from someone who works for the Courier Journal. So thanks for the early tip because we ended up with pretty good seats(row E seat 3 & 4).It is also their last night opening for Wilco. So it should be quite a homecoming show. Thanks again.
no problem. I'll see you there. Row C seats 4 & 5!!
So.....what's the deal....If the Jacket is really playing this show what is the advantage to not announcing it? There are several of us Louisvillians out here that are freaking out with anticipation.
Maybee it truly will be a suprise--and we will not know until the show starts. Let's keep our fingers crossed. Yo.
I don't quite understand the advantage to not announcing it, but just speculating a little...
Maybe they want the audience to be there for Wilco, they figure they've already won over a lot of Louisville, why not try to win over some Wilco fans. Or maybe they wanted to let friends, family and fans with the inside info to get first crack at tickets. Or perhaps it's just a big surprise.
But rest easy, I still guarantee that they will be there and I've already told you where I'm sitting so you'll know where to come find me if I'm wrong. I Can't Wait to see them at the Palace!!!
Alright, I just walked over to the Palace today at lunch. They said it is a done deal--the Jacket is opening for Wilco on June 30. I would say that is a pretty reliable source.
However, let's all stay calm...it ain't the word until Riny posts.
Some interesting remarks by two tone tommy in the College Tower about the tour with wilco...
How did the dates with Wilco come about? Is it a good pairing?
Yeah, we're huge fans of the band and it's a great opportunity. They're on our short list of bands we'd like to tour with. It's quite the blessing that we've been given the chance to do it.
When you open for a band like Wilco, that can be pretty delicate, do you guys go full throttle? There's a chance that MMJ can upstage people like that.
Well thank you. We've open up for bands like Guided By Voices and Foo fighters where we'll go just 45 minutes at full throttle, just non stop. In your face rocking out. And we've opened for Beth Orton or Doves, where we have to kind of mix it up like what you said. I think the Wilco tour will be the same thing. The same way that they do. Where you mix some slower tunes in there with the more rockin' ones. We have also closed a show with Black Sabbath when we open for Beth Orton which probably wasn't the best idea but certainly funny to us.
I was listening to the Jim solo concert from 5-1-2002 in Knoxville, TN. At one point he's talking to the crowd about how the venue (Tennesse Theatre) was so beautiful that it was almost like playing the Palace, which he described as a theatre in his hometown that he's always dreamed of playing at. I think Jim's going to be just as excited as we are to be at the Palace!
Definitely......it is going to be a sweet homecoming.
