Title: Higher Ground show
Post by: Willy_Glen on Jun 27, 2005, 07:41 AM
Last nights show was amazing. It was my first time seeing the band and i am so happy how it went. The band was in top form, and they rocked the house. The first song they played i had never heard and it was incredible. In fact, i didn't reconize most of the songs, so they must be all new ones, all which sounded awesome, can't wait for the new album. Jim is a star...what great stage presense....all of them.
Anyone else go? I need help with the setlist and would love to get a copy of the show if anyone has a copy out there.

peace

that first song you heard was prince's "i could never take the place of your man", second song was a new one called "lay low" which is gonna continue to be awesome as they learn how to tame the beast. take a gander at the northhampton show, it's a very similar setlist. i looked around and noticed "i will sing you songs" left some people in the audience crying. i'm from boston and that was my first time up at the new higher ground looks GREAT!

Thanks Johnny. I agree that the new higher ground is amazing. way better than the old one.
So that was the prince song huh? man what a killer cover. I will sing you songs was so powerful, i was chilled to the bone on that one.
I was disapointed with the turnout though, i thought it would be sold out. but oh well, more room for me, i was right in the front on jims side.
Their guitar tech had redsox tattos and a hat on which i thought was cool and i wondered how he had hooked up with a band from kentucky.
by the way, how cool is Patrick, that dude rocks...and his drum set is perfect.

turnout was weak, but enjoy it while you can. with the combo of the new album, the cmj music conference in nyc, and that cameron crowe movie, i expect they will fill that place next time they roll thru b-town.

you know you are in burlington when the house you're crashing at is broken into by a bum and all that is stolen are empty beer cans and bottles.

al's french frys is the shit too.

Quotea motherfucking tsunami in brown clothes

That is the best fucking thing I have ever heard.  Wow.  They should use that in the band bio.  Seriously.

That is what music writting should be about.  What a passionate and well written review.  I'll have to disagree with the "throw out the albums" comment however.  The albums are a whole new universe in themselves.  The albums are something you can lay down with and close your eyes to.  The analogy should be more along the lines of.......the albums are like makeing sweet love by the fire while the concerts are like FUCKING in the bushes!!  There is a time and place for both. ;)

Best quote ever. I damn near covered my monitor at work with Sam's Cola.
I needed that today.

that review nailed it. best line to me was "A memorable night. The kind where it's very, very hard to go to bed afterward" beacause i was completely drunk, exhuasted, and yet i just couldn't fall asleep cuz i couldn't stop thinking about the show...at last, a real band, who really matters, and what a shocker, they don't ripoff phish!

Ahhh, the mark of a truly exceptional show. ;D That's the greatest feeling in the world! And halleluja, they are just about the best band out there right now!
