Title: Lack of shows on the Archive...
Post by: Kory on Dec 07, 2005, 09:01 AM
Hello all,

I've noticed a lack of shows on the archive and was curious if there's any reason why. I'll be upping a show for Low Dog pretty soon and that gets me thinking... if anyone has any shows that aren't on the archive that they would like to share with the community and you want to get the shows to me by any means (FTP, snail-mail) I'll do the work of uploading them and converting them from cd-r if that's the only way they exist, flac or shn would be preferable. I have some friends that can convert from dat so if anyone has those I can get that done as well.
Just an idea, we need to utilize the great wealth of sharing that archive is putting out there for us to spread the music with.

Thanks for hearing me out. Share the love!
Kory

That's a great idea. I have plenty of shows that I've wanted to share with the community but just haven't had the time and patience required to put them on the archive.  I think that there is a definite lack of older shows on the archive which is a real shame because I think the shows they did in 2000 and 2001 are the best.  And the first show the Archive has is from Dec 2002.  I'd be willing to send you a show or two.

Let's begin with their performance from BRYCC House Louisville, KY 03-02-01.  This show has not been circulated yet and it's a great performance, everything's slowed down and rocked out includes great performance's of Twilight and Lil Billy and one song they never played again called icream.  It's either a soundboard recording or a very good audience recording.

I have stuff to trade as well if I need to trade to get some of these show out, my only problem is not maintaining a good list of shows I have. I can say that I have a ton if Dave Matthews band (1000ish shows - I know, I know, I was a hardcore fan) if anyone wants anything of that. Maybe I should get a list of shows together and go from there...
thanks for the responses and Thanks John as well!

I sent you an email.  No trades necessary, I'm just worried about format.  If you're going to pull from John's ftp I suggest you start with the WFPK Xmas sessions since it is the time of year, but I know that he has them saved as mp3, isn't that some kind of crime in the trading community?

It's a crime to many but if that's all that exist they at least they exist as far as i'm concerned. There are some things on the archive that only esist in mp3 format so I think we're cool there. I may have to break this down into a full blown search and recon mission to find superior sources over time but it looks like you guys have already started innitiatives like that .

Thanks for your help! ;D

Hey CC, if you're reading... does MMJ have an archivist (ie.  someone that records and keeps track of their live shows taped off the boards by the band themselves) ?

Just curious... if not, I'd like to have that job... haha!

yea- i'm disappointed that the boston show i went to hasn't turned up yet.  i hope somebody has it but just hasnt put it up yet.  it also seems like none of those great west coast shows have made it up yet.

-geekdork, i'm lookin for a few dmb shows i went to, i used to be obsessed too but never got around to getting the more recent shows i saw...do you have a list?

no list, why don't you let me know what  show you attended and I can probably hook you up. I have every show recorded for at least the last 5 years minus the few that just didn't get taped and most shows taped before that as well. I think between 2000 -present only 5 or 6 shows haven't seen the light of day.
Let me know...

someone just put up a show from the Rud in 2000.  I'm pretty sure that that is the legendary show where Tommy smashed his brand new bass to pieces and generally went nuts.  I didn't even know that recording existed.  WOW!

So does that mean it's in the process of going up, then?  I can't wait for that one.

This one's up now too.  Thanks whoever put this up there.  There are so many shows from that time period that are being hoarded, today one became unearthed.  It sounds very good, too, may be a soundboard recording.  The song titled "unknown" is 'Lil Billy'.

Hi all,
I heard ya'll were talking about the shows I uploaded to the archive last week, so I thought I'd drop in and say howdy. Unfortunately, those are the only shows I have that weren't already on the archive.
I also can't take credit for the shows coming out of hiding, I downloaded them from the furthur network, and figured they should have a permanent home. All I get credit for is deleting enough music to make room for them on my hard drive until I could get them on the Llama. Rest assured that whenever I see something that's not up there I'll be sure to upload it.  Also, I'll be back in Louisville for the holidays with a bunch of other guys that went to high school with Jim, so I'll ask around about anymore hidden gems from the early days.

Thanks marcus!
I spoke with the taper of those 2 shows you upped, he has a couple more but has to find them, 2000ish shows he believes.
Anyway, there's a heads up and thanks for helping the cause!
Stay in touch around here!
