i just read in my daily rolling stone e-mail that Connor Oberst said he would like do another tour with M. Ward and Jim James in the fall!
YES!
I'd rather that he didn't.
That Oberst kid gets on my nerves. Big time.
If JIm does anything else solo after the next MMJ tour, I'd prefer that it be by himself.... or with anyone other than that Bright Eyes fella.
Just my $.02

I agree. I'd love to see Jim solo though. Even it means having to get through a Oberst set.
Add Andrew Bird to that & GawdDAMN! & Bring Bo to play them stellar keys. :)
That would be wicked to see them all (the bands) tour together sometime.
olwiggum... thanks for saying what i couldn't! i'm sick of that sensitive-boy-with-hair-across-his-forehead-wearing-an-ironic-western-shirt-and-complaining deal! gimme balls out rawk!
Conor's got his heart in the right place. Even if you don't want to listen to his music all the time, I think he deserves some props. He's been making music since he was, what, 13 years old? His songwriting has obviously grown a lot..from the more bedroom confessional type songs to dealing with more universal themes. I'd be all about that tour. I never saw the first one.
universal themes as set forth by a 24 year-old... not that there aren't plenty of insightful twentysomethings, but come on! but it's ok if you like it, no judgment here, just love... lots and lots of love...
i think jim and andrew bird and m. and conor would be amazing. i'm not huge on conor, but it seems like all the guys really enjoy eachother. man, just imagine andrew on that bill, he could add some killer violin to some mmj stuff. ohhhh man.
Well, yeah, 'more' universal. I just mean, like, leaving the bedroom and going outside for a stroll. :)

Ben Lee was on the Beastie Boys label when he was that age. I like him, not as much as I used to, but way more than Bright Eyes.
Yeah, Bright Eyes annoys me too. I went to his show here at The Brown in Louisville last month. Feist opened, She ruled. He was a bore. I should have left after Feist.
I'd like to see a different trio of solo performers, Jim James, Ben Nichols (of Lucero) and Cory Branan from Memphis.
Yeah, I agree. Bright Eyes started going on my nerves too. I don't like this Oberst anymore. He'd been too commercial, or what to say?! and he's also not as much good anymore. :-/
It's not so much that he's too commercial. He's anti-commercial actually and refuses to allow Clear Channel radio stations to play his music or book his shows in their venues. He won't sell songs to advertisers or anything like that. So, apart from public, college and internet radio, you can't hear him anywhere. But he's huge with the teenagers. He seriously like an indie teen-idol. No different from Justin Timberlake in that respect, except that he writes decent songs and doesn't dance. But the young girls swoon over him no less. I got tired of hearing this 14 year old behind me at the show exclaiming how much she wished she could have Conner's babies. Pathetic really.
I'd be all for this tour.
as for Bright Eyes. I could see how alot of people wouldn't like Conor, but i dig it. Being in highschool, i got sick of hearing all the 14-15 year olds say "Oh MY God did you say Bright Eyes? They are like so totally my favorite band." And at the first Bright Eyes show i attended, two girls behind me said "Who is Conor Oberst?" For the most part, the trendy teens have dropped Bright Eyes for the latest "it" band.
Don't get me wrong, I think it's awsome when young teenagers like great music, but the ones who are disrespectful to the musicians and bastardize the art by drooling and shouting sexual explitives are just, well, lame. It's just uncalled for. I'm sure I can name a few female musicians if, given to lust, I would fantasize about impregnating, but keep it to yourself people! I know, I know, I'm showing my age, but I don't recall me or anyone else I know being that way when we were 16 going to shows, and that was only 10 years ago. Has the world changed that much since I crawled under my rock?
well, i appreciate mmj's music on a cerebral level as much as anyone, but there's just no denying the boys are total babes! :-* :-*
i'm throwing my panties on stage next time...
(ugh, no, not really!)
Wait 'til they share the bill with Tom Jones before you go losing your skimmies. I heard that the women at his shows are all about flinging their drawers on stage. :o
I can assure you of this.
Love,
Tom
;D
TOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm throwing my virtual panties at you right now...
TJ! :)
I've seen two Bright Eyes shows and I can't say they've done much for me. The first one, in fact, I left early because I wasn't feeling it. Something about the band's lack of energy and the obsessive crowd put me off. I've heard girls scream that they want to have Conor's babies, too. That's always an awkward moment. Seeing him with Matt & Jim might be cooler in some respects, so I'd definitely give him another chance.
If I had the option, though, I'd choose Andrew Bird. I've seen him twice too, and both times were just really, really nice.
Yeah, Andrew Bird would be cool...
i think twilight kid already mentioned this line up, but itd be fabulous. throw out conor, replace him with mark kozelek, of course you have jim and m ward, and andrew bird would make it the best night of solo music ever.
ratsprayer... sign me up for that concert!
gotta say though, if the jacket and tom jones play together, that would be one shwinging shagfest! there's this tom jones album cover where he is the colour of terra cotta but shiny, like he's been greased up, and his shirt is unbuttoned and there's all this chest hair and a 'fro... he looks like the time kramer slathered himself in butter and ended up deep-fried and newman wanted to eat him cuz he looked like a turkey... anyway, pretty gross visuals here!
i like bright eyes, but i didn't particularly enjoy connor's presence on the last jim james, m ward, oberst tour. the stuff the three of them played together was amazing, but on his solo sets connor focussed too much on his uber-emotive confessional stuff, which didn't really fit the mood of the show. ihs solo set in the middle seemed like a complete bile-fest, especially juxtaposed with the beautiful melodic nature of m ward and jim james' music.
also connor got literally fall down drunk and seemed generally to be in this really black mood. i realize that none of these things (emotiveness, drunkenness etc) are uncharacterstic of bright eyes, it just didn't fit with the show at all, i felt.
maybe on the next tour they can replace connor with neko case.
answer:
lose oberst, add sam beam (iron and wine)
i saw iron and wine's latest tour with calexico and while i didn't really like it that much, sam's solo songs were incredible. he should lose the crappy musicians and the fifteen people on stage setup and tour solo. his voice is beautiful, it needs nothing else. trapeze swinger was outstanding.
first time i saw jim play was solo with conor. my two friends were going to see conor in jersey city(awesome old theatre) and when i found out jim was gonna play i hitched a ride and scapled a ticket. jim was freakin awesome of course and my friends dug him greatly. they were dissapointed by bright eyes(who would want to follow jim?) and now they are mmj fans.
F brighteyes. Lets get Jim James w/ Neil Young!

Word.
I just noticed that this got stickied. That makes me a little excited, although, you know, maybe it's just a hot topic.
I DEFINITELY think this should happen, and I really like Conor, and they better damn come to Canada.
I think they should bring a girl, too. Maybe that lovely Joanna Newsom...
:)
what about brandi carlile?
Quotewhat about brandi carlile?
Who did she tour with recently? Somebody good...
Yes that's right. Ray LaMontagne.
hm.
i like the idea of neko case, in more ways than one. ;)
i think kristin hersh (throwing muses, 50ft wave) is an awesome solo artist. lisa germano kicks major ass, too.
basically, i like the idea of adding a female to the lineup.
Conor put the tour together, whats he gonna kick himself off? I went to the first one, it was all good I thought.
I would love to see all of them perform together. I have the DVD of the last tour they did, (Austin City Limits style) it's a great dvd, but conor was a bit gloomy. (he does mention though that he was grieving the loss of a close friend recently).
I would love to see sum sam beam in the mix as well. (someone mentioned him earlier). he is an amazing talent up there with jim.
i did see conor play a secret show with m. last year. m. was great and jammed it up royal, conor was a nice additon for one song! :)
