Title: Bonnaroo 05 recording?
Post by: sweatboard on Jan 31, 2006, 01:00 PM
Who has it and what do you think?  Is "I could never take the place of your man" as good as I remember it.  Is "Off the Record" as shakey as I remember it?

"I can never take the place of your man" does indeed rock. I love the "1, 2,3,4!" intro. Jim's voice does a great job on that song.

im amazed at the difference in sound quality versus the crappy audience recording i had which was good enough until now.  its definitely not their best live show ever, not even close, but im very glad to have it.

yeah, i agree. It's difficult to capture mmj's true sound outdoors. Gotta have that dark and smokey small club like atmoshere.

Very cool hearing it in a much better quality. I like the beginning, sounds like Patrick counting em into Off The Record ..."Allright, you ready?...Ready?...1...2..." Woohoo!

Bonnaroo 2005 is another great addittion to the Disco., if you ask me. There's an added cool factor being able to say I'm somewhere in that crowd noise "Woo!"ing away.

Some random notes...

Hearing Patrick kickoff Off The Record is definately neat, and didn't think the song sounded shakey. The breakdown of the song will always be my favorite part - and they didn't let me down here.

O Is The One That Is Real is cool as hell, as always - but I've learned that the rawer the recording, the more I like it... I don't like the studio recording at all, and I think I prefer the crowd recording over the official. Am I weird?

I barely listened to my crowd-copy of I Could Never Take The Place of Your Man, it didn't do anything for me... but I've played the official recording over and over and over. Not only does it sound better, it sounds completely different. Weird.

Everything sounded great to me tho' Off The Record did start off a bit weird--lots of banter, not sure if it was stage or crowd.

I was up front and never even heard an air horn, and I didn't hear it on the audience copy, either - but I refuse to believe someone would add an airhorn to an otherwise perfectly clean recording...

Perfectly clean?...not even close to clean, its listenable and worth the money.  So where did the horn come from, it is very LOUD on the released copy and not audible anywhere in the audience copy...hmmmmm
