Title: Coachella
Post by: jgmoore on Jan 03, 2006, 06:31 PM
Get well Jim and please come out to Cali and play Coachella.  They are still working on the line up and its been an amazing festival the last couple of years - better than Lolla and ACL.

Maybe if the Jacket plays Coachella, the organizers will allow them a set longer than 30 minutes.

Unless you're headlining, they don't often give them more than 45-60 minutes to play.  But here' hoping...

That's why Bonnaroo is the best out of all of the festivals, great artists, with longer sets, and a great vibe. ACL and Coachella have a ton of great artists, but squeeze in tiny sets, and the 2005 Lolla line-up wasn't very impressive this past year. They need to go back to the travelling festival format.

Didn't radiohead headline Coachella a few years ago?  Wish I coulda been there for that.  I guess there's not a big chance they'll play at Bonnaroo ;)

i beg to differ. The folks at Bonnaroo have been trying to get Radiohead for two straight years. And they will be on this side of the ocean on the weekend of Bonnaroo.

"Supervisors of Chicago's brand new, gleaming gem -- a Frank Gehry-designed music pavilion within Millennium Park -- claim that they want to have more popular music performances, but clearly actions speak louder than words: City officials have vetoed Radiohead's request to play the venue on June 19 and 20. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Chicago's Cultural Affairs Department turned down Radiohead's appeal "even though the group would have paid rental fees of $100,000 -- because the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra is scheduled to hold a rehearsal June 20."

Bonnaroo is 16-18, so my prediction is that they will headline on Friday or Saturday.

Hopefully this will kick off or be in the middle of a tour. Too far to go since I'm not digging too many of those bands.

Other than MMJ and Sigur Ros, it looks to be somewhat of a weak lineup compared to 04 and 05.

what do you consider to be a strong line up?
Title: Re: Coachella
Post by: Specialist on Jan 31, 2006, 07:15 PM
don't get me wrong, if i lived in California i would definetly be there. There are plenty of artists i love on the lineup, not to mention MY MORNING JACKET. To me it just doesn't compare to years past. For instance in 2004 they had Radiohead, The Cure, The Flaming Lips, The Pixies, Kraftwerk, Desert Sessions, Air, Belle and Sebastian, and Wilco. Now that is a strog lineup.

Eh well, to each his or her own, I guess i am just let down that the Pumpkins didn't reunite. Not to mention the My Bloody Valentine rumors.

Shooter's album is pretty good. It leans a bit too much toward modern country for my tastes, but i can still dig it. I love the George Jones intro.

i understand what you mean. i think i just get sad because we don't seem to get a well rounded line up for ACL fest. at least not half as fun as what's goin down for coachella. sheryl crow is nice and all, but you know not every single time.

Maaaaaaaaaaan.  My brother, who is about as "whimsical" (read: irresponsible and brash) as me decided last night that he's going to Coachella.  Can't really say that I'm not jealous.  Holy moly.

He doesn't have the internet and he made me read all of the bands to him last night.  It was fun to listen to him get so excited.  :)

For you dudes going, look for the bald fellow with a white sweatband on his head and a backpack.  And give him a hug.  ;)
