Is a MMJ show a fucking religious experience to you as it is to me?

If I didn't already not believe in God in the first place I would suggest everyone burn all their bibles, torahs, korans, Da Vinci Codes and go buy every My Morning Jacket album instead.

You cannot appreciate the power of the Jacket until you've been there live and in-person. My friend and I always describe that emotional level as what we'd suspect the second coming to feel like...

Indescribable.

No one believes me about just how good this band is until they've seen 'em in person. I will admit that before i went to my first show, i loved the band, and One Big Holiday was one of my favorite songs. But i walked out of Bogart's a changed man: this was the best band in the world, right now. I feel like it's possible that if i were to see Radiohead (especially in one of the theatres they're playing this tour), that it could surpass the experience of the Jacket. But i don't know if ANYTHING else could.

As most of you on this board, I have been to tons of shows since I turned 13 (now 26).  Only a handful of concerts have actually made me get goosebumps or affected my way of thinking about things.  Of the 8 times I've seen My Morning Jacket now, I can remember every single one and the emotions those shows stirred in me to this day.

I hadn't heard one note of MMJ when I stumbled to their stage at Bonnaroo '04, and they had an immediate and unparalelled impact on my mind.  MMJ is a band that for me goes beyond music and hype and actually emotes and brings an "everyone's welcome" vibe that you just can't get anywhere else.

I haven't been to church in 7 or 8 years, but as long as Jim James is preaching, I'll be there.  Cheers!
