I'll ask them during the first song break.
At this rate I'll be sitting next to Patrick.

ok this is my first post on here although i often come check it out.
The glasgow gig tonight was great, loads of energy. Jim said that yesterday (thurs) they got to wander around the city and said how nice it was. Xmas curtain to open with was a bit of a shocker. great version of phone went west. and steam engine was fantastic with a wee extended outro. Dondante left me breathless. heres the setlist in full:

going to the edinburgh concert tomorrow night which should be good!
Hey Mookie! Can we presume that you're a PJ fan? ;)
Phone Went West, Steam Engine, Mahgeeta?!! WOW!
Nice setlist! That four song encore!
amazing encore
great opener too
QuoteHey Mookie! Can we presume that you're a PJ fan? ;)
Phone Went West, Steam Engine, Mahgeeta?!! WOW!
yes im a massive Pj fan! just got back from seeing them in Dublin which was incredible. im trying to get my hands on verona and milan tickets that would be great with MMJ for support!
Thought so!
Either that or a die hard Sonics fan from way back in the day ;)
I was lucky enough to see Pearl Jam's debut UK show at the Boderline in London & their 2nd show at the ULU.
Saw them a couple of years ago here in Japan too...
Hey guys - first mesage on here. Was at Glasgow show last night - totally awesome performance - so much energy and passion. Dondante was simply breathtaking.
Really looking forward to Edinburgh tonight. :)
Welcome aboard, have a good one Runner!
2 nights in a row?!! You lucky dog!!! ;D
We just got back. It was absolutely FAB!!
We met Patrick and Bo and chatted for a while. They were so gracious. I asked Patrick if he was ready to shake that hair and he said he was always ready to shake his hair :)
I tried to match him shake for shake but he left me behind of course.
It was a smaller venue than I've seen them in before, but it was packed, with a very appreciative crowd. The stage was small, but they made the very best of it with lots of jumping. During dancefloors the three guys at the front faced Patrick for a really cool bout of head banging.
The crowd was really into it - very few 'passers by' I'd say. A good section (almost half, maybe) of the audience were clearly more familiar with the Z songs than the earlier stuff, which is really good, I think, because the new album has reached them. They played 6 of the 10 songs from Z and they sounded really good. The sound quality was excellent - better than other places I've seen them.
Jim said they'd enjoyed their day off in Glasgow - he said 'We even got to see Snakes on a Motherfuckin' Plane' ;D I'm really glad they enjoyed themselves so much. Patrick said Nottingham and Manchester has gone well. I'm sure Edinburgh will be great tonight too. They're in for a real treat.
During Phone Went West the guy next to me said "This is a great song, naw?" and I had to concur ;)
Man, what a frickin' great setlist! X-Mas opener, PWW and Steam Engine back-to-back :o
the venue in edinburgh is like a quarter of the size of the ABC2!!
i have a feeling tonights show is gonna be awesome!

Wow! Intimate or what? I know it sold out really quickly. Have fun mookie :)
Awsome show last night in Glasgow, maybe even better than King Tuts the last time. Many highlights, but on a purely personal note, the best was when Carl Broemel asked my 15 year old son,who was at the front beside the
headbangers, with his fingers in his ears,if he wanted earplugs. Struggling with the volume,Alan said yes please. When the band came back on to play At Dawn,Carl handed my son some earplugs!!! What a cool guy.
Can't wait for the live DVD
absolutely loved the show last night, I was about 3 people back right in front of Jim's mic the whole night :)
was funny towards the end when he started falling over :)
was quite annoying having a guy shout all night for Phones Went West and Mahgeeta considering those were in the encore :P

He must have been right behind you. I was behind him :-/
It was annoying when he did it when Jim was talking.
Great show though 8)

Great story Alan. They really are cool people. One of the best things about this band I think.

In case other members are thinking it, no that wasn't me.
Have to say that 'Phone Went West' was fucking amazing, as was chatting with the mighty Patrick. What a nice blerk. And it was nice to meet Bo (twice).
Had us a real good time.
WORDAWG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was the guy that clapped when Anytime's intro started and I was the one man pogo-ing during OBH :)
Just wish they had played Lay Low and Run Thru as well
oh and it was good to see that James had enjoyed Glasgow maybe it'll mean more than one show every 3 years :)
loved his first words as they came on stage
"Enough is Enough, I've had it with these motherf*****g snakes on this motherf*****g plane" :P
Great to read all the reviews & comments! Doc, Greggy, pleased you had such a great show :)
Thanks Dragon
It was ace ( actually it was fuckin' ace)
'Phone Went West' gets me weak at the knees just thinking about it.
wordragon
The most important question is Mr. Wordawg & Ms. Special K...was it good enough to finally make you 2 get tickets for the Astoria?!! ;)

You don't know how much we wish we could. We couldn't get to London on a Friday without taking the day off work, which is not that easy. If there is a way we'll find it. Would love to have a Ginsters with you dragonboy.
Just sent you a PM Doc :)
Glad to hear you had a great time Doc, Greggy, etc
I'm still waiting to hear Xmas Curtain live. It's nice to have something still to look forward to, though.
And Picture of You, War Begun, Lay Low, etc, etc,......... ::)

It was a really nice surprise they started with that. We were discussing what they'd start with and that didn't come up. I was writing the setlist down (on post-it notes, in the dark :-/) and, looking at the one mookie posted I got it all right. The writing's all over the place but it's a cool reminder. I've tucked it inside my copy of Z.
It was such a magical night - can't stop thinking about it.

Cool idea doc. It will be fun to look at that piece of paper and bring back thoughts of the show every time you break out the Z!

I think so too. I wrote them down in case nobody posted a setlist and couldn't throw it away. (Oh Dave it was brilliant!!!)
I did the same thing with my Pukkelpop setlist. It's filthy as hell, there are footprints all over the paper! They just might be Jim's or Tommy's, or Carls! Yummie Yummie Yummie ;)
Maybe you should frame it :o

As a late comer to MMJ, Sept '03, it was Kitty Empire's review of It Still Moves, in the Observer, that was so compelling that it forced me to immediately log on to the net and check these guys out. The rest is now history! I cut out the article and it now resides inside my ISM CD cover and reading it now and again is nearly as inspiring as listening to the album itself.
The value of keeping these things becomes more obvious as each unit of time passes by.
Found this review.
Reads like it could have been written beforehand. Not much insight, I'm afraid :-/

My Morning Jacket @ ABC 2, Aug 25
Article by Colin Chapman
Louisville, Kentucky's My Morning Jacket seemed to break the alt-country mould with their last album, the critically acclaimed 'Z'. Jim James, the hirsute quintet's main player and front-man took the sturdy yet mournful country-rock sound forged by Neil Young and merged it with a range of disparate musical influences to create an enthralling patchwork of sound; his own mournful, reverb-laden vocal easily its strongest and most engaging element. In front of a packed and receptive ABC 2 crowd they showcase the bulk of 'Z' with work from their impressive three-album back catalogue given a healthy outing too. From keyboard-led melancholy through bouncy, hook-filled reggae; wild guitar rock-outs to more country-tinged standards, the group's versatility is put keenly on display. A near half-hour encore provides the perfect opportunity for them to exhibit their impressive repertoire to the full - the whole gig a great advertisement for their forthcoming live album.
