the crystal ballroom has a weirdly small stage. it's curved in the back so there isn't the move around room for the techs. the fellow working with carl was behind the montiors and guitar racks. instead of having the gear in the wings, it was off stage to the right. (the only other show i've seen here was a jeff tweedy solo show, so i hadn't noticed this before).
boy howdy. i met some very friendly, cool people at this show. AGAIN. i kept a setlist during the show and managed to take a few notes (good lord.), but was lucky enough to get carl's setlist at the end of the night (thank you mr. bruce!). there were no changes from the list.
some moments from the show:
-at the end of the first set patrick made some kind of deft leap over part of the drum riser out to the front stage. nice move, dude!
-during the big instrumental parts of OTR: tt-t was playing kneeling in front of his monitor and jim was walking to parts of the stage standing with one foot on the stage, and another on the barrier rail.
-the tail of sing you songs went into that layered, dense musical bit which i now call chiefokonos' echo-jam. i also have in my notes "big drum fill". not sure what this is exactly, but i think patrick produced some moving stuff in here.
-after the show waiting at the coat check i saw a girl wearing a shirt that said "ba-ba-bananas-nanas!" in the mmj spotlight font. turns out she'd been at the nye fillmore show and had made some other equally fucking rad shirts that her friends were wearing. SPECTACULAR!
Oh Holy Hell Balls that bannanas shirt is flat out off the charts in the cool department. I need a picture!

ms_yvon, my friend Liz made those shirts. Mine said "it's up to you, what's your pleasure" and all the shirts said "Fillmore 12/31/07?" on the back. She also made one for Jim that had a screenprint of the Lionel Ritchie album cover on the front and "Karamu...fiesta...forever" on the back. She gave it to his guitar tech after the show - we were in the front right corner of the non-drinking section.
Can we get pictures of the shirts? Actually, can I get a bannanas shirt?
Ba...ba...bananas...nanas girl here. I am down for making some tee's for the diehards who were at the Fillmore. Unless I get overloaded with requests, all I ask is that you pay for the shirt I print it on. I live, work, and play here in stumptown...just hook me up with a way to contact you.
And Ms. Yvon, do you want one too?
On another note, my neck is killing me today from thrashing and rocking out in the front row! So very worth it, especially since I could not see the show at the fillmore.
Oh...and I was at the fillmore....just a measly 5'1" tall.
That is fantastic! Nice effort girls! I guess I wouldn't feel right wearing one since I wasn't there. If I did get one, I would want it to say St. Louis 12-31-07? Ha! ;)
yea, should read 12/31/06... that's the way NYE shows go down 12/31-07 is 354 days away and will be in Louisville, you can quote me on that. ::)
I think they were asking for a return in 07 to the filmore! I couldn't argue with that, but Louisville would be a lot easier for me to get to!
I will make shirts for ever want to represent Bananas...not a problem.
And hey, I definitely respect the need for a Louisville blow out. But being a west coaster and a deadhead as well, you really cannot beat the Fillmore. Sound is awesome, setting is beautiful, and the history is so deep. we are just hoping for another Fillmore NYE due to my job keeping me on the west coast at new years.
So I can make the shirts more as a homage for you mid-western and east coast kids.
But I am down with St. Louis too (my husband is from the Lou)...just a more difficult journey for me to make ;)
Sorry...I just got home from a long day (long week...) and realized that I am not typing my thoughts out completely.
I ment I could just put 12/31/06 on the back for those of you not down with a Fillmore recap next NYE.
New Years 07, SIX NIGHTS.......THE RYMAN!!!!!

fuckin' a!
and those bananas shirts are the mad note.
So when the band played the Aladdin Theater in 2005, I was given a lovely poster by Guy Burell for the show. I did not see a new one at the show this week (but I was more focused on the show than the merch).
But...went to his website and saw he did a poster for the show!
check it out....

Wizzard, I saw one girl at the show with a poster tube. I did not see any on sale at the merch booth, and was a bit puzzled. Last night I did some searching and found Guy's site and lo and behold there were the Ballroom posters's, and a bad-ass one (in my opinion) at that. Definitely had to pick one up.
damn. fantastic poster! :o
HOT DAMN!!!!! That poster pretty much says it all.
Not only is that a kick-ass poster and everyone should get one, but that guy is super-cool! I was standing next to him and his friend (who's name I have sadly forgotten :( for the entire show and they were so great; Guy ended up giving me one of his posters! It'll be framed right next to the NYE poster on my wall. Thanks Guy!! (And thanks for the Jack & Coke!!)
that show was epic.
I met the taper but forgot what website he was going to post on. He said he posts on a different site than archive but i can't for the life of me remember what he told me.
Does anyone know where we can get that show?? the crystal rips. i was standing right next to the taper the whole show and the sound was intense.
try doing a search with the date...my turn something up...
or poke around the taping forum to see if anyone's got any info...
Here's the deal folks. Funny thing is I traded a printer to the taper for 2 tix to the show and have been in contact with him since. He told me he won't be posting the show because there were some issues with the recording. However he is going to kick me down a rough copy. After a good listen if I feel it's worth it I'll post a B&P under a brand new thread. Keep an eye out in weeks to come.

was this the taper that had the mics on the stand in the middle of the floor? there are a few recordings of this show, but i figured the mics on the stand would be the best.
Yeah, he was right up against the barrier on the bar side, centered with the stage.

i hope it's salvageable. i taped from the balcony but i haven't listened to it since the drive home because taping from there is never very good.
I am the alleged taper.
It's totally salvageable. I posted about it in the recordings thread.
you, sir, are a hero.
added: huzzah!
Update on my tape: I figured out how to "glue" the tracks back together (cutting and pasting--who knew?). It's wroking out fine, but it looks like there will be at least 2 tiny "skips"--kind of a drag, but oh well. They are definitely noticeable, but not too bad--imagine a record skipping, but without the pop. I think I will just go ahead and paste it all together, add in some fades where I stopped and started before the encore (don't worry--no music will be harmed in the editing--just some crowd noise). Should be ready in a day or two. Still not sure if I want to post it, or just do some trading. One way or the other, I'll make it available. Shoot me a message if you want a copy.
Oh, and the sound quality is pretty damn good for an AUD recording in a kind of muddy room.
