I emailed one of the email address' on the site asking what was happening... here was my response....
Hi Drew,
Thanks for reaching out. The band is not going to play Bonnaroo... They're going to take most of 2007 off to rest, write, and record an album... But we definitely appreciate the love!
Thanks again for writing. I hope that answers your question.
Best,
Jamie Sampson

My Morning Jacket's Management
I am very disappointed, but at the same time happy to have it finalized.... It will be worth it once the new album comes out...
Also, I am very happy with the management to go ahead and reply to my email.. Just a few more reasons that MMJ continues to impress me and is by far my favorite band!
I agree. I am extremely dissappointed that they're not playing bonnaroo. But they are well deserving of a rest and if that rest produces more music, even better. I hope they enjoy their break and I look forward to catching up with them asap!
that doesn't just suck for Bonnaroo, it sucks for most of 2007 :'(
i know i'm being selfish, but honestly take your time fellas. :)
Makes Langerado and Athens even all that more special!!
Damn............Their management is cool as fuck though.
You have a good point there.
Have a well deserved rest boys.......
that's weird...i just posted this in another thread:
so a friend of mine ran into Pat last night in Louisville and shot some pool with him at Dundees. he asked him if they are going to play Bonnaroo and he said they would love to, but will probably be working on the new record then.

I am assuming that means they will be recording the new album then? Nice. Recording in June would probably mean it could be out by the end of the year? Nice. 8-)
Dangit! I was finally gonna break down and go to bonnaroo this year, with a lineup that includes so many of my favorite bands (Wilco, Flaming Lips, Decemberists, etc, etc). But if there's no MMJ, it's just not worth it. :( I've never liked the music quality at festivals very much, but having listened to the monumental MMJ sets at bonnaroo, I figured I need to see that. There's always next year I spose.
Im not sold!!!!! >:(
Im still holding out that my favorite band will be at Bonnaroo......

hopefully the 'Roo will wise up and throw some serious dollars at the boyz and make them an offer they can't refuse!
just think...it would be a nice break from the studio, a chance to hang out with some of your friends in the biz, and to debut some NEW songs to a huge audience.
however, to top last year's show would take a lot of work and i doubt they want to try and accomplish that while working on new material. it makes sense that they wouldn't do it this year if they aren't able to focus all their energy on creating the best MMJ show yet to hit B'roo!
which makes me think that when they play B'roo 2008 with brand new songs it will be an even that no MMJ fan should miss!!!
Quotehopefully the 'Roo will wise up and throw some serious dollars at the boyz and make them an offer they can't refuse!
It is my understanding this isn't a matter of money, at all.

I wouldn't hold my breath. You know how the boys like to delay releases. I'm just hoping for the TF/at dawn demos by the end of the year.
I also think that the roo would be a fun "break" from the studio for them, but I'll take them at their word on this one. They definitely deserve the break, but I'm sure their going to miss the live experience. I know I will.
I'm torn.. I want them to have their rest.. but for REAL.. Bonnaroo!! It'd be just a fun weekend.. no commitment.. but they do have a lot to live up to from last year's performance... And a new album will be INCREDIBLE.. I'm sure of it... So I suppose.. if it's for the good of the new album, and they have to miss this year, it's cool.. but everyone would REALLY love it if they could be there.. obviously.
A break is needed...touring tears bands apart. remember MMJ #1?
Im sure they can take ONE roo off and still be remembered as the grandfathers of that fest. Plus, share the spot light. who knows what could happen. But we all know it will be magical.
And think how wonderful it will all be in 2008.

i get that...but your telling me that if they offered them serious cash to play that they wouldn't? lil' Jims gotta eat...baby food and milks ain't cheap these dayz!
j/k...i know its not about money and i'd say there's probably a 1% chance they would play.
I think you've got it backwards, bro.
PM Sent.
I think not playing perpetuates the legacy of the last roo show. Let someone else steal the show this year while Jim writes the next album. I just think that absence makes the heart grow fonder. I've never been to a Roo but I am going to Langerado so maybe im biased.

received.
let's take the band's and their management's word...they are resting and working on the album. they need time and energy to construct this forthcoming masterpiece!
let that be the final word.
Bonnaroo 2008 = the MMJ event of the century!!!
I think taking this year off from Bonnaroo is one of the wisest choices that they've made in the last few years. Let's face it, they've had a VERY good run at Bonnaroo for the last couple of years. They keep getting bigger and bigger... and that has to do with the word of mouth. People can't stop talking about their performances.
So here's my point. How the fuck would they top last year? Seriously. Anything that they do this year would be so built up in people's minds that most people would probably walk away feeling let down. So then what happens? It gets blogged about as a less than stellar show. People are gonna talk shit. That's life.
So if they don't play this year, there's nothing for people to judge. It only makes people REALLY want to see them if/when they play there next year. And hopefully by that time, there will be new material.
So there's my stance. I think it's a wise choice. They completely deserve the time off this year and Jim has said before that he doesn't like writing while on the road. So the more they tour, the less time he has to write and the more time you people have to bitch about there not being a new record. :)
(I'm just funnin' with that last line).
Rest up fellas. We'll be ready for the rock when you're ready to bring it to us.

Well said Corey, your post makes complete sense.

agreed. bring on the rawk Jim..we is ready!
Let's imagine what other not-your-typical jam band bands might steal some of the late-night tent shows this time.
The late night tent shows are what made the 'roo sooooooo effing magickal for me last year, my first, hopefully, of many 'roos.

I agree the late night shows are always what end up stealing the show... I skipped Tom Petty last year to rest just to make sure I was in good condition for MMJ (in reality I just went back to my site to drink a lot more)... the year before that I thought Mars Volta kicked ass... although I recently saw them open up for the Chili Peppers and found them really disappointing.... different atmosphere with a much different setting though.....
Anyway, I'll summarize... --- late night shows kick ass ---
It's just gonna make it that much better WHEN they play next year. With a whole new albums worth of songs to play.
