here's an update from the band/management:

Dear My Morning Jacket Fans,

Our sincerest apologies for the difficulty you had in getting tickets during
the pre-sale.  Honestly, the truth is that the demand pretty much overloaded
the system.  All the tickets we were allow to allot for this process sold
out in ten minutes.  Where this is an encouraging sort of good news thing,
we're as frustrated as you are right now.

FYI:  Live Nation is in no way involved in this show.  I'd read on the
message board that people were blaming them, etc.

That said, the show is going on sale on January 25th and there will be over
5,000 tickets available.  You will NOT have a problem buying them then and
as we only sold every-other-row for the first 35 rows for this pre-sale,
kick ass seats will be available.

One last note:  As My Morning Jacket and management are sensitive to and
appreciative for our fans/friends passion we elected to sell ALL seats at
the same price, $39.50 so as not to make life difficult for anyone who wants
to come see the band...no matter where they live.

Lastly, you should not have a problem getting tickets to this show.  As
there aren't an infinite number of seats at Radio City Music Hall, there are
still tons of great seats available for the on-sale on January 25th.  Our
mixed emotions of enthusiasm for the speed with which this pre-sale reacted
coupled with our empathy for how some folks had difficulty buying tickets is
palpable.

I can see the mixed emotions.  This is a great day/moment for the band.  

Mike, I appreciate this post. As I am one of the disapointed fans who was unable to get tickets this morning, this was reassuring that i will a) get a ticket next week and that b) the band and management understand and truly have MMJ fans' best interests in mind. Thanks again to you and the band and see you all in The Big Apple.

In the future, have pre-sales at the venue.

For a band with a pretty grass roots vibe, why did you let the machines control the destiny of the show?

Without question, there will be a host of tickets on sale this afternoon on EBAY and Craigslist.

i agree, this note to the fans is appreciated, it definitely helped lessen my annoyance with this whole messy presale...  im also glad to see that all tickets will be available at the same price next week (with, of course, the ridiculous fees that tm is sure to charge)

but i also second the notion that this should have been done at the venue itself... it would have been nice to give the upper hand to the local fans who would like to see this show.

How come, if they sold out in ten minutes, at 10:01 I as being told they were sold out? I know at ticketmaster if there's a large demand, it has a little "Please wait while your request is being processed" countdown type thing. But here, I was instead being told that all the tickets were gone within 30 seconds

Great posting Mike. I myself would be traveling from Europe to NYC to see MMJ, I am hugh fan & was very angry today that I could not get two tickets. I was happy to see you "cared" about the fans & it means a lot to me & other true MMJ fans. If you plan on other venues in North America maybe with this pre sale mix up you cold learn from that mistake & hope that it wont happen again.

Keep us posted on other venues within America, a lot of true fans either can't afford to travel to NYC but really want to see their show.

I'd say only complete rookies, amateurs, and noobs are getting upset about the pre-sale.  The Professionals all knew going in that the musictoday pre-sales are a joke and that usually you can get better seats through ticketmaster....Everything will be fine next week.

dumb question though---is radio city actually selling the tix at the box office on the 25th or do i have to go through ticketmaster? i want to go up there on my lunch break where i can see the ticket layout, etc??

I want to encourage you guys to look into this.  From what I can tell between 10-15 forum members got tickets, that's totally fucked.  I know it's not your fault but there is something really fishy going on here.  I logged on at 10:00 sharp and I didn't even get put in the middle section.  I'm not complaining I'm just concerned about where these tickets are going.  I've seen some wierd shit go down with other bands presales in the past and I've just about fucking had it with Ticketmaster.  Please, Please, Please look into this.  Thank You for all you guys do for us,

Anyone blaming the band/management for the presale shenanigans is wrong - it always boils down to bandwidth and today's ticket seller's server got blown up. That said, and this has already been asked elsewhere, will it be musictoday handling the rest of the ticket sales or ticketmaster when they go on sale next Friday?

Thanks for the update on tix! It is so wonderful that they reach out to fans in this way.

Another NYC show went on sale (not even a pre-sale) today and sold out in minutes. In that case there was  no message or word to the fans. They went to scalpers & that's all she wrote. There are a lot of very very disappointed fans. So today more than ever, it really rings true just how great this band is!

ABout failing to get tickets when I tried at 10:00.000005secs. I haven't felt this close to tears since Paris was denied a set of car keys, since Britney was forced to use birth control, since Lindsay was forced to well-you get the Idea!!! Until this email, I was ALMOST willing to crawl around Rikers Island on knee pads Begging for tickets. But, I will Keep hope alive for another week....until then, I will keep teaching my 3 year old daughter Steam Engine....

Well, I am in the double not-so-secret DMB fan club.  ;D (Public stoning later today).  When it first started it was great.  I got seats in the first 10 rows for every show that I requested.  No Tmaster hassles; just request seats and wait to see what you get.  

As the years passed and the number of people requesting seats grew, the seating system got switched from purely seniority-based to a lottery system (so that the newcomers would also have a shot at the good seats).  I can't tell you how many times I've lost in the lottery (request for tickets denied) or "won" lawn seats.   They do still seat based on seniority, but they do not release which shows those will be.

It was a good thing and I benefitted greatly (!!!!) during the early years....but not so much now.  Now, if I were going to see them, I'd rather take my chances with TM.

I would suggest familiarizing yourself with the seating chart, getting online Thursday and see what you get.  You can reserve tickets without hitting the final "pay" button and decide if they are worth snatching up.  If not, come back Friday.

FYI-both passwords work

I had two browsers open and was going back and forth like a madman. I got greedy and took to long to look at the location but kept trying to get back and succeeded a few times. I got better seats the 2nd attempt...2ndMEZZ Row B 505-504

I kept going back to get something better but the only thing I was able to see was 3rd MEZZ with seats in 700. I just glad I at least got in and stayed within the seat range I wanted...between 513-301. I'm just off center....not sure who got all the ORCH but shit it sounds good all over this place.

Wow, I couldn't get any tickets in two pre-sales and look how many they got. I can't believe how much they are going for too. This is definitely not sweetpickles ;), more like a big bowl of brussel sprouts without cheese. Well I hope I have better luck tomorrow.

There are a billion ways out there to make a buck, and I CAN belive that there are people out there that see this as a viable option......and that's what's really sad.  I hope the powers that be find a way to stop this from happening.  I would have stood in line for 8hrs. in the frezzing cold for good seats for this and some assholes are sitting at home clicking their mouse buttons and makeing over $100 on these tickets.  The good news is they will never have the pleasure of enjoying this show.

Man, I hope so.  There is nothing like praying for your favorite band to play that song you've been waiting for forever and then hearing the first notes ring out.  I remember so vividly this girl that I met before a Pearl Jam concert,  she was going on and on about wanting to hear "Present Tense" SO BADLY live.  She ended up sitting right next to me and sure enough they played it.  I looked over at her and we both had these huge smiles and then I gave her a gigantic hug.....then they played the best version of "Present Tense" EVER!!!!!!

i know this would never work, but i wish ALL MMJ fans would boycott buying tickets from scalpers or any ticket priced above face value.

At 10:00 I pulled 2 seats in the 3 mezz  :o  Looks like some singles are available in the back of the orchestra now.  

What I want to know is how the scalpers and other brokers get into the system and pull so many great seats.  Something is not right here (not that Tmaster has ever been a bastion of goodness)...it just seems like they're in the express line and everyone else is waiting in the check writing lane.

Normally I am a very positive thinking person, but right now I am so pissed off. This is the third time I tried to get tickets and I'm shut out again. Why cruel world!!!

I tried again this AM and I was able to get 4 more seats, in the ORCH row KK... this means the tickets my friend got yesterday we do not need.  So I those who got shut out, I have 4 extra tickets in Orch7 Row G seats 701 - 704...

We will sell them for face of course... $20 for the set or 2 for $100.  Unless you live in the area it will have to be mailed, so $5 on top of that to cover Priority USPS with delievery confirmation and insurance.

I am not sure when the tickets will be mailed to us, but if you PM me now I will let you as soon as we get them in the mail...

I would prefer to sell as 4 together, but will sell them in 2 pairs (not 1 singles though)

AMEX has a promotion with most MSG and Radio City and Beacon events where they can get tix in what I think is a certain allotment of tix for card members, which I am. So that is how I got my tickets... that is also how I was able to get tickets for the Clapton/Winwood shows at MSG in Feb

Yeah, unless it's a really small local club Ticketmaster owns it.  :(  There is really no way around it.  Pearl Jam still uses ticketmaster.  They tried a tour without them and it went down the toilet unfortunatly.

Hey, Elizanne, one thing I noticed in all of this is that for some reason, "Best Available" wasn't working.  You need to actually pick a section. Try that if you havn't got one already.

It sucks that bands are under complete control of the MSG corporation when it comes to ticket sales.

The Roseland show that I went to at the end of 06 was such a nice experience...from getting the tickets to going to the show and being able to stand first and second row for the whole show.

Congrats to MMJ for selling out so quickly, but it sucks that there are so many ways for a real fan to get screwed when getting tickets to a show such as this.

In the end, the band's image is damaged because so many fans have to go to evil ticket brokers online or on Ebay.

I got my two tix in the 2nd Mezz. Doesn't matter where I'm sittin', I'll just be happy to be there and witness this amazing music. Just hope people behind us won't mind us standing up and shakin our asses!

OK...it's NOT sold out.  Not sure why, but I just pulled a single in the center after being denied when I requested a single in best available.

Thankfully, most of the live music that I see does not involve TM.  Dealing with them this week has made me more grateful for every opportunity I get to not use them.

Well, if anyone comes across an extra pair, please let me know.  Obviously these tickets are hot (I hope they add a show), but it goes without saying that it would be much cooler to unload any extra tix to fans rather than putting them on eBay.  I'll definitely hook anyone up who wants to party before the show as a thank you.   ;)
