Free music AND free drinks!  Caught the Outformation show at the Parish last Saturday and picked up the flyer you posted.  Sounds too good to be true, but it's legit.  However, the guy there did say that it's not a full show (his words, not mine).  He thinks they will only be allowed to play for @1hour, def. not 2-3.  Sounds like just enough time to play the new stuff to me.

I don't care, we're going to boogie on back from the Houston show for this.  I live in Austin and am planning to camp out.  Anybody want to share and get in on this?

oh i love the wedding reception idea. someone's crazy uncle needs to get loudy and we are going to dance the blog out of "september." also the chicken dance, love train, and hokey pokey must happen at some point. the parish needs a g.d. chocolate fountain as well. 2008 ELEVATE

The IFC thing makes me think it might be something that gets recorded for some kind of music special.   I bet it (and the show on the 10th) will have lots of collaboration.  How exciting.

I'm with you... when I heard about the show I was praying it wouldn't be posted in this forum.  I know the original poster had the best of intentions, but with such a limited number of tickets, this is just going to make it that much more difficult for all of us to get one.

Found this:

IFC ON-AIR COVERAGE:
IFC's comprehensive coverage of SXSW will include programming specials and extensive daily news updates. Viewers can tune-in for an opening night pre-show on Friday, March 7 at 8:00 PM (ET/PT) that will detail the history and evolution of SXSW, and kick-off the network's on-air coverage. Throughout the festival, IFC will air special reports each night at 8:15 PM (ET/PT) hosted by IFC News' Matt Singer and offering the latest news and events from the festival. Reporting directly from Austin, TX, Singer will also host a wrap-up special that will air on Monday, March 24 at 8:00 PM (ET/PT) and feature highlights of this year's festival.

I guarantee at least a couple of clips of MMJ!

Did I ever tell you, that you're my hero, Ms. Yvon?

Or heroin, I guess I should say.

Make sure you study the Evil Urges track list so you can give us setlists.  Ha!  Just kidding, that's going to be a tough nut to crack.  If they played Dondante before Z came out, there would certainly be no way of knowing it was Dondante, right?   Hopefully someone can snag a setlist from the stage so we can start putting the pieces of the puzzle togehter!

this show was so tight. basically i can't hear. i danced my ass off. can i get a witness from yvon on this. the new songs are amazing, in fact i would love to hear an entire album of touch i'm going to scream pt 2 because i almost pissed myself. this solidifies jim's baller status.

also they played for a long ass time, 4 song encore including steam engine. huge ballers.

HOLY HELL THIS KICKED MY ASS!!

at a certain point during the show i just kept putting my hands up to my face in an astounded gesture.

this band makes me holler.  often.  and with vigor!

and who threw the cake was right:  booty shakin at an all time high for this show!

and that was just the jonas bros' set.

no.

really.

as it is 4:15a.  i'm gonna give you the straight transcript of my geeky note taking.

(annotated  :D) setlist:

--evil urges--YEAH!!
--wordless!--jim did a knee slide at the big howl and slid into a monitor on the edge of the stage.  a security guy body blocked it and kept it on the stage.--this is where i noticed that the wooden floor was bouncing!
--gideon!!!--AHHH--tiny stage!--b/c the stage was so narrow the guys were kind of stacked.  during this song i could watch carl, tt-t AND pat without having to look around.  FUCKING AWESOME!
--highly suspicious--AHHH!
(all of these "ahhh!" are songs that just caused me to yell  ;D  you get to a certain point where you're dancing as much as possible, singing as much as possible...hollering is the only way to way to go from there.)
--wonderful man--OFF THE CHARTS--CARL RIPS INTO IT--JIM JUMP (don't know if this was a jump from when he was standing on the monitor, or just jumping up and down a lot.  either way, fab!)
--i'm amazed--Again with the carl!  DAMN!--love the melodic guitar interplay on this.

--otr--in this tiny place.  sweet jesus.  this might have been the forehead slapping portion of the night.  i hope some pix turn up from this soon.  it was like watching these guys playing in a corridor...one behind the other...smoke, lights, HUGE SOUND.
(patrick wasn't on a riser tonight and was so far back that sometimes all i could see were the tips of his drumsticks flashing around in all that smoke.)
--some jim banter re:  unspoiled austin.  he said austin was a home to him and loved being back here.

--thank you too--BEAUTIFUL--gorgeous harmonies sung by bo, carl AND jim
--golden--i don't think jim's voice cracked at all tonight!  last night in houston he was still warming up a bit, but tonight was all smooth
--bear!--great suprise!  didn't play this in houston
--way he sings--tt-t, carl MAYHEM!!!
--aluminum park--badass!--jim & carl sing a lot of choruses (chorusii?) together in the new songs they've played so far.  LOVE IT

--OBH!!--HOLY HELL--jim on monitor playing to crowd, leap...HUGE... (i cannot read my notes here.   ;D )
--run thru--back to back obh w/run thru!!! ROCK LIKE A MOTHERFUCKER!
mother! (the equivalent to my saying "uncle."  usually i'm a "bring it on" kind of show go-er.  at this point i didn't know how much more badassery i could handle)
--smokin from shootin--PERFECT!   :)
--touch me pt 2--the intro to this has a lot of sounds being generated by carl and tt-t working fx--not a musician, so i'm not sure what is going on, really.  but it's a great lead in for the omnichord.  fun note:  as jim is playing the omnichord, he's got the flying v on, and hanging at his side.  great visual!
as jim was starting the omni-c, his guitar was making some noise.  carl walked over, put his hands on the strings to stop it.  it came back after awhile.  carl moved to try to stop it so tommy just turned the amp down.  before jim started to play the guitar, one of the guys had to turn the amp back up.  nice team work!

during the long outro of this song, carl, tommy and pat left the stage as they finished playing their parts.  the crowd started to cheer, but jim put his finger to his mouth in  a "shhh" gesture so that we could all hear the music.  bo was watching, waiting for a cue.  at one point he asked jim, "now?" but the omni-c kept going.   ;D  such a cool thing to see them developing the new songs live.

-------------
--steam engine!--intoxicating.  this is one of those songs you get inside.  whew.--also, they're playing a new arrangement at the end but it still has bo's gorgeous keys
--laylow!--carl! maybe it's b/c the stage was too narrow to allow the guys to play around the drum kit, but carl was playing at the front of the stage A LOT tonight!  EN FUEGO! -pat HUGE drum break--whenever there was a big percussive bass hit you could feel it!
--mahgeeta
--anytime--i don't have any notes for these last two b/c i was dancing and hollering again.   ;D

i can't believe they played this show.  in this tiny venue.  FOR FREE!  astounding!  every time i get to see something special that they cook up i say the same thing, "these guys know how to throw a party!"

most of the night i didn't get to see much of bo or tommy.  sightlines and all.  but everytime i saw bo he was either smiling, dancing or both.   :D  holy smokes.  they were ALL just crazy on fire tonight.  and the new songs FANTASTIC!!

2 word review:  rampant badassery.

QuoteDid you see any cameras or anything from IFC?
Yes, in fact i think there's still an IFC camera lodged in my ribcage. There were at least 3 hand helds up front, plus a photographer. Lot's of documentation happening. The only issue is that I wouldn't realize the cameras were right behind me and i would start shouting lines from There Will Be Blood (i.e. "I DRINK IT UP" and "MY BOY, I'VE ABANDONED MY CHILD") so hopefully they can work around that.

Everyone rushed the stage to touch Jim at one point and we were so packed in, i don't think my feet were touching the floor. amazing intense music + jim james 4 inches from the crowd + open bar = INTENSE MOMENTS OF MAYHEM AND DELIGHT.

Touch Me Pt. 2 is the best song they've ever made IMHOOOOOOOOO but seriously. The omnichord intro made me think i was playing Mega Man II and then the song really worked it out. in a big, danceable way. i'm going to play that song in someone's face if they ever need to LOOSEN UP.

favorite drunk quote of the night, the assclown behind me who's apparently fresh of his Obvious Genius 2008 award win, shouted (in reference to Jim),  "Heeee's wearing a VEST!!!!@!!!!" But don't you guys worry about ObvGenius2k8, he had a girlfriend so he is loved and appreciated by someone. that story has a happy ending.

hey you know what's cool is that this is the worst review of show that could ever be written.

and to one of the drunk guys who rushed the stage at the end: no, it's not okay for you to put your hand there so that you can lean over me for a setlist. but seriously, what are you doing later

"Watching these guys, a palpable joy slaps you across the face and all you can do is stare in awe with a big dumb grin. As for the new material, it sounded great, a bridge between the rural hay-seed vibe of the At Dawn era and the crunchy psych of Z. And by the end of the set, you can't but have all those pretentious, ridiculous notions of the idea of music as something bigger, as something atavistic and primal that hits you at a gut level. Few bands bands making music right now can inspire such a feeling, the transcendent notion that whenever you're at a My Morning Jacket show, everything else seems strangely meaningless, that in all the world at that second, there is no better place to be."

Wow, this is exactly how I felt as my first Jacket show came to an end and thats why I'm such a big fan of theres.  I've just never been able to put it into words.

Wax Fang had a full room. They sounded great. There was even some guy, desperate to get in, who kept saying "These are my boys!!" But don't worry, he made it in. another happy ending.

It was a short set, i believe about 35 min, or about 5 songs.

They have been doing 15 minute reports every night, and last night they showed a 5 second clip of Jim and said that they will be showing more tonight.   So, I'm not sure how much it will be but set the DVR and hope for the best!

The entire 10 minute show tonight was about this show, with street interviews of the fans waiting in line and the ENTIRE performance of I'm Amazed!  Plus a short interview with the band.  The performance was sweet.  And I think I may have seen Ms. Y.....
