Any of the 5 off of your list would be great!!!

I think the big announcement is going to be for Super Jam!!!  They will probably announce all of the other acts at this point.

they don't usually announce the superjam, right?

all those are good choices...i would very surprised if it was LZeppelin---

THE VERVE would make that festival perfect but that's not a huge announcement (to most).

superjam is usually not announced although i think it was last summer.

WIDESPREAD PANIC----i'm not too excited about that announcement for some reason. they both put on great shows so i'm sure it will draw that allman bros crowd ----jurassic 5---always a good time, though

i guess the people at Bonnaroo have a different definition of "Big Announcement" b/c this is pretty weak:

WIDESPREAD PANIC JOINS BONNAROO 2008 LINE UP!

Plus LES CLAYPOOL, CHALI 2NA OF JURASSIC 5, SUPERDRAG, WHAT MADE MILWAUKEE FAMOUS, ADELE, GRAND OLE PARTY, AND THE POSTELLES.

The Bonnaroo Music And Arts Festival is pleased to announce that Widespread Panic will now close the 2008 festival, headlining the main stage on Sunday evening, June 15.

Jack Johnson has chosen to join his friends Pearl Jam on the main stage Saturday night stepping into the slot vacated by the Allmans. Jack will perform beginning at sunset, to be followed by Pearl Jam's closing main stage set.

We're also excited to note the additions of Les Claypool, Chali 2na of Jurassic 5, Superdrag, What Made Milwaukee Famous, Adele, Grand Ole Party, and The Postelles to this year's festival line up.

WOW.  LAME.

I am going to have a blast a Roo regardless, but this whole announcement fiasco originally with the Zeppelin thing and now with this. WSP??  Come one.  How many times have they played there?  The do not warrant a BIG announcement.  Very poorly handled in my book.

Got to step up and defend my boys here.  I love WP.  They rarely disappoint, and they always bring it at the 'Roo, a la MMJ.  Highly recommend them with Jimmy Herring at the helm.

But yeah, the addition could have been much bigger, when you are throwing words like zeppelin out there.  Jack Johnson and PJ will be a great combo though - real psyched for that.  And at least this makes it where folks can bounce before WP Sunday if they wish - that last show is always around half capacity anyways.

That reminds me of a good story about Mel Famey.  Heard of him?

Was he the best pitcher that ever threw a baseball? Back in the 1950s, there were a lot of folks who thought so.
Mel Famey of the Milwaukee Braves was a natural -- a once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon whose fast ball blew away the best hitters. His 90 MPH curve ball would start out like it was going to hit the batter's ear, only to break at the last instant and hit the outside corner of the plate for a strike.

His change up made the best hitters in the league cry -- they would swing, drop the bat, and stare incredulously as the ball hit the catcher's mitt.

He was indeed awesome!

Why then, you might ask, is he not in the Hall of Fame? Why haven't you ever heard of him?

Alas, like many others before him, Mel's downfall was demon alcohol.

Ol' Mel really liked to tilt the glass. His drinking became almost legendary around the country, but he never let it affect his pitching until The Braves and the Yankees were in the World Series!

Excitement reigned!

The series was tied at three games apiece, and the Braves were in New York for the seventh and deciding game.

The night before the big event, Mel's thirst got the better of him. He sneaked out of the hotel after curfew, and bought himself two cases of beer.

As you might imagine, the next morning Mel didn't feel too good.

But being the pro that he was, Mel managed to do just fine -- until the bottom of the ninth inning. With the Braves ahead by one run, two out, and the bases loaded, Mel's revelry the night before finally caught up to him.

Eight straight pitches -- eight straight balls. He walked in the tying run and the winning run, thereby, losing the game and the series.

After the game, a reporter went to the jubilant Yankee's clubhouse and spoke to the last two players that faced Mel. "Tell me," he asked, "to what do you attribute this victory over the best pitcher in the major leagues"?

In unison they replied, ... "It was the beer that made Mel Famey walk us"!

I'm not impressed with the "big" announcement really. Panic is good but how many times are they gonna close roo? I guess they are they only "Jam Band" left that can really do it.

I like panic and they do put on a good show, it's just that they ALWAYS seem to close out the show (well...not technically but...). It'd be nice to see someone else do it thats not named Phil Lesh.

just wondering if anyone on this board has had Guest Passes or done Guest Camping? I'm supposed to find out today whether my VIP can be upgraded to Guest Passes/Camping? I googled it but found nothing? Does this mean we'll be camping w/the artists, etc? or just that we get backstage, etc...?

that same best of rock and roll Rolling stone has a big article on bonnaroo and named it best festival (of course) ....radiohead among other bands named it their favorite as well--just stressing how even artists that don't play (KOL this year) go down to hang out anyway

VIP... nice... I wish I could throw down like that, but they don't pay me enough around here.

I was thinking about trying to get a press pass so that I don't have to worry about the amateur bouncers at the gate trying to confiscate my gear - but I'm thinking I may not want to get dust/dirt/mud around my gear, anyway...

:-/

p.s. I must be the only person who is pumped up to see Metallica. I'm not being sarcastic either - I really want to see them.

one of the reasons i won't go unless it's VIP is because there's no one to check you coming in and out--you've basically got a free pass and walk right to the main stage area...once i did it once, i got spoiled. i wouldn't spend the $$ but it's my only vacation of the summer-- ;D

and yeah, i think you're the only one pumped to see Metallica--no shame in that, though!  ;D

Yeah, my buddy Alan and I have talked about going VIP for the past three years for that exact reason. It's always made me "untrusting" (for lack of a better word) that the people at the gates are actually just volunteers - they're just festival-goers like me.

for air conditioned bathrooms, showers, catered meals, to be able to take whatever in and out of the shows, being close to the main stage, camping around showered people, ...for me, i'll spend the extra few hundred dollars...you have a whole year to save it!! c'mon!!  plus you get a free show and free beer the first night---you can't pass up the rebirth brass band playing just for a couple hundred people in the VIP tent...sorry, i'll stop. :o

but i still have no idea how much closer you get can get w/guest passes because the VIP gets you up on the bleachers for the main stage...i need to find out this guest pass status....

...Oh yeah? Well with my standard entrance ticket, I get to condition my lungs in the sun-baked porta potties, take nice, cold showers in gutted trailers full of people who want to share my soap, walk a brisk 3 miles to my campsite from Centeroo everytime I run out of money to buy the $8 bottled water, and I at 5'6 I have no problem elbowing my way through a crowd of 6,000 people in order to see the top of the other 6,000 people's heads.

PM me if you want to trade tickets.
