Oh My God, :o
I'm in Antwerp, but I think I could make it. I have ordered two tickets just to be safe.
I will be able to drive up to amsterdam, but is there a kind soul out there who is willing to offer me (and my partner) a place to spend the night (so I don't have to drive to antwerp in the middle of the night?) Please?
Of course this gentle soul will be rewarded correctly.
I'm actually shaking just thinking about this ... :o
Wow, I knew Jim was up to something over there. Can you let us in on anything else he might be doing over there between now and the St. James show on the 22nd? There must be something going on....Jules Holland? Live at Abbey Road? A guy can dream can't he? :)
This make me want to cry...I'm stuck at work back in the States :'(
BH just hit 4000 posts...OMG!

Wow, I didn't notice. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
(Certainly don't tell my boss)
get us a tape CC, please!!!
Just so you know,
me and Mr T. (see above) have managed to get on the guestlist, what remains are logistical issues like getting off work early, taking a three hour train ride to Amsterdam and finding some lodgement.
Support us in this quickly improvised endeavour!

I am certain none of it is done at work! ;)
Good luck guys and I hope you have a great time, let us know about it!
In 30 minutes Serge and I will be off to Amsterdam. Let's hope all goes well.
This will be our first solo-acoustic Jim James show so we're both excited as hell.
Expect pictures and stories tomorrow!
Here we go!
T.
Riny, can you tell me the name of the venue for my records or is it still top secret? ;)
http://www.desmet.tv/
I have been staring at my screen for about 20 minutes now, just not knowing what exactly to write about this truly magical and beautiful experience that was Jim and Carl's performance yesterday evening.
Serge and I stood front row in a small room, holding about 100 people and some cameras. On stage: two guitars, Carl's slide guitar and an omnichord.
From the moment Jim came out (for some reason he was carrying a bundle of radishes) and opened with "Tonight I want to celebrate with you" on the omnichord, the stars aligned, and everything fell right into place.
We were treated to spectacular and definitive versions of (in no particular order) Golden, Bermuda Highway, It beats for you, What a wonderful man, Gideon, Anytime, and as true highlights: I will Be There When You Die and THE BEAR!! I swear to God that that was the best performance of any song I have ever heard or seen in my entire life, not just by Jim, but by any living being. The Bear was flawless, flat out majestic, and dangerously perfect. It felt like I was flying inside.
From the new songs he played, I only knew I'm amazed. I think he didn't play Evil Urges, but anyone correct me if I'm wrong. I think he also played Librarian, smoking from shooting, and a couple of others I don't know the titles of.
I guess it's too early to give any opinion about new song I've heard just once, but I didn't think I heard one song that will leave me cold.
I've tried to take some pictures, and you can find them here:
http://picasaweb.google.be/TomenEvelyn/JimJamesSnowyBroemelAmsterdam
At the end of Anytime, the last song of the evening, Jim went totally berserk on his omnichord, when he threw it out of his hands, he grabbed the radishes (!) and rushed off-stage waving his arms around like a madman.
The guy definitely is crazy, but he is the best performer, and the best songwriter out there, and for that I salute him.
T.

great review and great pics. sounds similar to my experience at the solo SXSW show...life changing.
Riny, when are you going to publish a coffe table book for me?
ha, someday. sure.
hey is there a coffee table book about coffee tables?
Lucky! I want to see him solo so fuckin bad! Thanks for the review..loved it!
Ha! I just wrote "F...U///C/;;Kin'" and it changed it automatically to "crappity smackity"
crap, lotsa censoring on this new baby.
i think we should keep the fuck, nothing wrong with the fuck.
oh yeah, this show was filmed for the digital tv channel 3VOOR12 Central.
will let you all know when it surfaces...
Hot Shit, Thanks.
I think I read somewhere that there IS a coffe table book about coffe table books.
Don't look at it while you're stoned.
mr. t, thank you for the wonderful review! i could feel how special this show was. [smiley=beer.gif]
these bits, these made me laugh out loud and touch my heart:

thanks for the executive decision. if fuck was removed from my vocabulary, my posts would be nothing but smilies and "woo!"
Quotewas nice meeting you mr.t and sergio!
Nice meeting you as well mr. modaroboto! Looking forward to seeing more of your pictures, I'm sure they'll be excellent!
About the show...
It's been 'rough and rocky travellin', but more than worth it. Jim James sang all the way to the heavens, The Bear was transcendent and the lucky crowd of 100 very respectful.
And Jim modestly shared the applause with a bunch of radishes, who says everything's been done in rock and roll?

;D ;D
Haven't checked the shows pages for a couple of days & completely missed this one.
Serg & Mr. T - I'm so pleased for you!!! :D

Thanks for the pictures CC.
They have, how could I say this, euhm, a more "professional" kinda look than mine..., It's just like they're much, much better.
I don't know what I did wrong ::)
thanks again.

Thank you CC for the great work!!!!
oh boy!
i would like to say for the record, that i am so glad that tonite i want to celebrate with you came back into being played. it makes me feel so good.
also, this version has omnichord glissandos. i mean COME ON. so that's, what, omnichord and steel? absurdly beautiful.
in addition, i am so glad to know that mr. t and sergio and cc got to this this show. and i'm pretty surprised that sergio hasn't sent me pm with all of the details. (hint)
this is really really nice.
great review; makes me more and more looking forward to their show 8 july in de melkweg, Amsterdam! First time I will see them live!
right now, 27/5, 22 o'clock dutch time, you can hear this intimate concert on http://3voor12.vpro.nl/speler/ondemand/39608727...(maybe also tomorrow night or this whole week; surf to www.3voor12.vpro.nl)

Sergio and I will be there too (if all goes well of course)!
Prepare to get your ass kicked!! [smiley=cool.gif]
i'm sorry, but did sweeter harmonies exist in the world ever than carl broemel's at this concert with his little country licks thrown in there for fun? this is amAzing. i'll stop talking about it, but i'm still listening, and i've had chills for the past 45 minutes, nonstop.

This recording is gorgeous from start to finish. I've listened to it again, and it's just flawless. It's "the ultimate in musical enjoyment" :)
QuoteQuote"the ultimate in musical enjoyment" :)
Haha, forgot all about that.
The recording is pristine by the way. Check the silence when Jim mimics the drum beat on his guitar at the end of The Bear.
Also, this is just sound and no visuals, so I'm missing the nuisance of having to look at myself trying to keep my cool for the cameras ;D

Yes.
Quotevery cool people.
Notice how I am wearing the band's T-shirt at the show. Some people will claim that to be uncool. I say go tell that at an Iron Maiden show! Now you're not telling me Iron Maiden fans are uncool are you? ;D
By the way Meg, this cool kid has sent you a PM.
El Modaraboto, thanks for the pictures, it's the good stuff.
After a second look at the pictures:
are we looking serious or what?
We have a look of studious concentration on our face like someone's explaining the relativity theory on stage. Damn you cameras :)
That recording of the show is fantastic! Is there a torrent or downloadable version out there?
I recorded the stream and chopped it up. I added some itunes artwork courtesy of CC's awesome pictures...

This is awesome got me through ten hours on the road this weekend. Thanks
QuoteKory, thanks, but what type of file is this?
should just be zipped up mp3s unless I left itunes set to m4a (itunes equivalently to mp3) if so, I suggest itunes to play them (u should use itunes anyway for it's superior user interface... I'm a fanboy) :D

Huh, let me download it again....there is no .zip extension on the file I downloaded...windows asks what program to use to open it...weird.
Thanks anyways for grabbing this
my mac does that sometimes, just add the .zip extension and it should be good...

I have it on an external hard drive somewhere, but someone else can probably upload it faster. If not, I'll get on it! Also, can we just re-do this evening sometime in 2014 pretty please?
Well, the audio I have is a single mp3 file, so if anyone wants to chop it up into tracks, have at it. I don't mind it as a single file.

For some reason, they cut The Bear from the TV broadcast. Bad idea, but sounds great on the audio at 35:19.
