...hands down.
I don't know if I can say that, but there is one thing I can say for sure.
The best moment of both shows was in Nashville.
Better venue. Better Setlist. Better Playing. Better Crowd. War Begun. Fireworks. No Brainer.
better crowd....elaborate please....not enough pot smoking, dancing, too much talking....wasn't there but listened to the show and it sounded great.
Are you from Louisville RoughGod? I think if you were you'd feel differently. Nashville may have been a better concert...but Louisville was a better night. It was about the accomplishments of the boys and how far they have come. Also, back stage the Mayor made them official music ambassadors of the city, I think. Being from Louisville..that show was one night I'll never forget.
i'd disagree. man, nashville was awesome and all, but...
that dondante jam was EPIC.
Quotei'd disagree. man, nashville was awesome and all, but...

EPIC indeed. I could not stop thinking the whole time what fitting tribute they were paying to an old friend. :'(

it really did bring tears to my eyes

that's b/c I was not at the Louisville show...

with as much emotion that this song has, I have a hard time seeing how Jim can even play it...
yeah, I can barely handle it in the crowd...let alone being so close to the man behind the message. :'(
I will say that the Dondante from L-ville was def. the better of the 2 weekend versions...probably the best one I've heard.
it was a fourteen minute heartbreaker.
Heres my 2 cents...
If you were at both shows you wouldnt have such a pressing need to shout from the rooftops that one "dominated" the other. People often compare shows but not in this manner. You dont even provide any discussion or comparions, just a list that states everything about Nashville was better, which one could already assume is your opinion since you plainly stated that Nashville "dominated".
That leads me to believe you were at Nashville but not Louisville, and the 10 page thread of people gushing about how great it is might have gotten annoying to you. I could understand that. I just dont see the need to push one show at the expense of the other. "Nashville dominated Louisville. Hands down.". OK...and?
I was at Louisville, but not Nashville. Which show was better? I dunno. I have no idea. What I do know is this band plays balls to the wall every time they take the stage, so Im going to go out on a limb and say both shows were awesome. I dont really feel a need to say which one was better. I dont really care. All I know is that Louisville was amazing and one of the best nights of my life. Im sure many others feel that way. Im also sure many at the Nashville show would say the same thing. And guess what? They'd all be right.

Anyone care to elaborate or send me in the right direction as to where I can find an explanation about this Dondante tribute talk?
I'm quite sure the boys truly enjoyed playing for their hometown crowd. It was a really special night for everyone who was there. I saw what looked like the bands' parents on the side of the stage. Jim got to jam with the kids from the Louisville Leopard Orchestra. They didn't have that in Nashville. so there!
WOW!!! Insane
Did you guys hear how Nashville to Kentucky and War Begun have evolved??
Holy Fuckin Shit. :D :D ;D ;D :D :D :o :o
Yeah, the sax in Nashville to Kentucky was beautiful.

Sorry guy. Didn't mean to offend or shit on anybody's time in L-ville (I had a blast). I think you're taking my post a bit to serious.
I was at both, Nashville was a better show. I told you why earlier in the thread. No need to elaborate...

Incredible stuff from Carl Friday night....

No worries man, no one in the world can make me feel different about that show. If you were at both and you think Nashville dominated it, it must have been one helluva show, because Im still shaking from Saturday. Its a different experience for everyone though. Part of what made it so awesome for me is the fact that I flew 1400 miles round trip, visited a city Ive never been to before, and met some really cool people afterward. My experience was different from the 9,999 other people there. Like I said, no worries :)
I was also at both shows and they were both amazing. Each had their own "dominating" points and unique songs to each setlist. for me, it seemed like the 2 nights fused into one final cut...a true, real life Nashville to Kentucky experience...and i loved every second of it.
next to the day i married my wife...friday night - saturday night was the best 24+ hrs of my life.
i literally had chills at different points in both shows....and get them now listening to the recordings.
haha at that kid that climbed the stage poles. My buddy was apparently standing next to a guy that said " oh shit...thats my buddy...I just bailed him out of jail like 5 hours ago!" People do such stupid stuff when they are in public ;D
cant beat how special louisville was
QuoteAnyone care to elaborate or send me in the right direction as to where I can find an explanation about this Dondante tribute talk?
I am also curios about this, Dondante is one of my favorite MMJ songs.
Both sucked compared to Kansas City.
;) ;D
i second this
QuoteBoth sucked compared to Kansas City.
;) ;D
what, no glow sticks?
I was at both....
The Nashville Crowd sucked! It was like a JV game...amateur hour if you will!!!! The band rocked out!!! It was just very hard to enjoy thanks to all of the kids talking!!!
Louisville sucked because of the lack of accomodations. I mean my buddy had to wait in line for 45 mins because his date demanded more booze! 45 min waits for a damn drink! Thats a shame!!! Sucks for him. My lady friend and I got drinks before the show and decided that nothing was worth that kind of wait. I understand why the city of Louisville did that, but it is a major pain in the ass for everyone there.
The crowd was great in Louisville though. Once again the band ROCKED it out!!!!
I think that both shows were musically brilliant! Good setlist....great playing and both with such passion!
This was such a fun weekend! I wouldnt trade the experiences for anything. I just wish that my fellow Nashvillians would learn how to watch a concert! >:(

All this talk of waiting in line for drinks is mind boggling to me. I couldnt imagine willingly walking away from my spot to get a drink. You couldnt drag me away kicking and screaming. Dont get me wrong, I enjoy a beverage or six, but not at the expense of the show.
Quotehaha at that kid that climbed the stage poles. My buddy was apparently standing next to a guy that said " oh shit...thats my buddy...I just bailed him out of jail like 5 hours ago!" People do such stupid stuff when they are in public ;D
What happened with this kid by the way? It didn't even look like they kicked him out! I swear I saw the big security guard HELP him down, then just put him back into the crowd.
Wow, both of these shows were amazing. Can't stop 'playing it over and over again...in my head.'
Not to be diplomatic, seriously I think they were dead even. I actually had an awesome crowd around me in Nashvegas and Lville. Amazing people, all singing and dancing. Had a better spot in Nash, but show was a tad longer and setlist a tad better in Louis. And I am so psyched and lucky to have such quality tapings of both! What a freaking trip!
The only thing that may put Nashville over the top were the fireworks coinciding with the extreme War Begun jam-out. That was just magical. And Wordless-Suspicious-Phone Went West was just a straightup dance party. Then again Cobra and Run Thru in Louisville evened things right up. Amazing. I love these guys! Somehow, they've gotten even better.
Yeah, the security guards were pretty laid back. I talked to a few of them after the show.
I went to both shows and i preferred the nashville show over the louisville show.
No offense to the louisville lovers, but i personally felt they put on a better show in nashvegas - the fireworks, man.
The setlist from nashvegas was a bit more varied, which i like: how do you know, nashville to ky, war begun, i will sing u songs (one of my favs!), mid-set mahgeetah (i know they did it ky too, but i had more of an impact the first night).
I also thought the crowd was into it more, but i was up front most of the show. It just seemed like loui was more geared for new fans (i got no problems with that) both in vibe and setlist (with the exception of cobra).
But, man, i had a blast a both shows.
Also, is it me or has JJ been working on the stage moves? I saw a mid-solo guitar knee slide in vegas and stage-spanning knee slide during wordless in louisville! The D would be proud. Again, i think we got a bit more of this in Nashville, tho.
Big ups to CARL - my nomination for MMJMVP of the two shows. Playing better and more aggressively than i've ever seen or heard him.
I had my hands on the stage in Nashville and he did a stage slide right into my palms.
It was pretty epic.
I went to Louisville and it kicked 40 different kinds of ass, but I have to say after listening to "Nashville to Kentucky" I'm jealous.
Dudes... I really hate to be a flip flopper... but the fireworks coinciding with the orgasmic peak of War Begun may have swung my vote in favor of Nashville. Plus, this show featured How Could You Know, which is, like, one of my favorite of the under-rated, rarely-played songs.

This was too iconic. Nashville wins.
Agreed.
It was divine intervention.
I was all (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v298/CorvusTortus/Kermit-dancing.gif)
I went to both shows. I thought there was no way to top Nashville...none. I was wrong. Everytime I see them, they are better and better. The guys from Red Rocks and Chicago and DC are going to say those shows were better than the Louisville show. And that's perfectly warranted.
It's all based on perspective. Where was our mind when we got to the show. Are the kids sick...is the wife pissed...is it too hot or too rainy? We have to evaluate the elements in the equation and determine what exactly we are comparing. I liked the set-up at Nashville. Riverfront Park is amazing (it is tiered for better visbility) and I want to see more shows from there. The fireworks from the football game and General Jackson strolling by to visit, were extraordinary moments in the cosmos that can never be replicated. War Begun...How Do You Know...and the Nashville To Kentucky Remix...Holy Shit! I went down there with Kory and Dylan and my buddy Goose and I don't know if I could have assembled a better crew-six + hours in a car with someone you don't know is usually a disaster, but I feel like I've got a couple of new friends in them. We were in the Music City for crying out loud...Carl's home town (I realize he grew up near Indy) and that night belonged to Carl. He was electric. The band was tight and I thought they were at their very best that night. The crowd was very green, though. I didn't have too big of a problem with the guy climbing the stage, but the crowd surfing was a little much and the glowsticks to the face was downright obsurd. But the crowd was moving, that's for sure!
I have always been a little weary of the Louisville fans, with all the Leather Kids and what not. I'm afraid there are a lot of haters out there, because somewhere in their heads they think it's "cooler" to talk the Jacket down. I don't give a shit if you knew somebody that used to know Jim Olliges or not...Jim James is who the guy is now. Jim James is the guy who has God on speed dial. Jim James is the mother fucker who brought us all together, and Jim James is the brightest star in the musical universe. Louisville was Jim's night, no doubt. He took over and never let go. As I said before, the elements were different. I was with a group of 15-20 people, not all together, but definitely trying to keep in touch. Plus my girlfriend (ex) was bitching at me, and trust me, I handled it well and got over it quick, but I didn't have to worry about that shit in Nashville..in fact I missed her a little. It had a little affect on me, though. Beer lines, I'm with my new friend, j rud on that one. I got an armload of beers before the show but never left my spot once the show started...except for other-worldly elevation tactics, but I don't think I was controlling it this time! But first of all, the setlist shake-up locked in a whole different vibe that night. Nothing was to be expected. Heartbreakin' Man the Remix...Where To Begin...COBRA! Whoo! And how 'bout that bad ass Aluminum Park. The best Dondante EVER! And the Louisville Pride was in full affect! Other than some of the complaints up front, I thought it was a great audience. The glowsticks, albeit rediculous, were more tame than in Nashville I thought.
And after the show, I met Angry Ewok, Megalicious, Suspicious K, Alan (sorry, I forgot your screen name), from Alabama and Tennesse areas, jrud, YouAreGivenToFly, and their buddy, from Philly, Ms. Yvon and Wendy from LA, and no telling who else went to Bearno's in the Highlands that didn't know to come to the beer garden in the back. Before the show, I got to meet TEO who welcomed me to the community with some WWJJD shit, and Jon and his wife, Mandy who drove up from Pensicola. I felt like I had been put up for adoption as a youngster and was meeting my family for the first time. And boy, did they embrace me.
This weekend was the best weekend that I've ever had. It was better for me than Xmas or Thanksgining. It was better than all the Bonnaroos I've been to. It was better than any trip I'd been on. It was better than being a kid. I woke up Sunday morning with the same smile on my face that I would have had if I would've woken up next to all those pretty ladies I saw that weekend...or woken up in a pile of cash.
So Nashville Dominated Louisville...Louisville Dominated Nashville...tomatoes/tomates. It's like picking your favorite twin-you can't. It was part of the Nashville To Kentucky Experience and I don't think they can be separated. They were two acts in one brilliant Skakespear play. Two eyes within one clear vision. Two hearts that made one beautiful child. And I will love that child and I will protect that child, and I will hold it dear to my heart.
well said love dog... it was nice to meet you
"Do I know you?"
"Umm... I doubt it, I'm from 700 miles away"
;D
That is the best post I have read here in months if not years! Welcome to the fold My Brother in Jackethood. :)

Love Dog that was beautiful!!! I almost teary eyed!!
Outstanding post Love Dog! Insightful, fired up show reviews have ALWAYS been my favorite things on here - thanks for a great one!
I've been lovin' all the feedback from everyone (especially that guy who was reborn and wants us all to move to Lousiville!), gettin' me fired up for Berkeley!
I feel the same way there is no comparison... it was a weekend as a whole... Nashville to Kentucky and the band knew it... you could tell... I had a better time in Nashvegas but thats just because of the mood i was in and it was the first time I had seen the boys in a while... Come Louisville I was already broken in. The weekend as a whole was magical. A dream that came and by the time you realized it was a dream the climax was over.
After attending the KC which was much more subdued than the other shows I am definitely glad I did the nashville to kentucky trek... I saw about 20 people out of the 1500 in attendance dancing. Some people were getting annoyed by people dancing next to them. One guy actually elbowed me away telling me to leave. So I guess what I'm getting at is KC made me really understand how powerful the weekend was. It was a perfect storm of music on two beautiful august evenings with mmj
Well said, Love Dog!!

Just when I thought I was over missing Louisville you go and drop this bomb on me lol! You nailed it, to be sure: its all about perspective. Although Louisville was a celebration of the band and their hometown, what set it apart for me was the journey to get there. 1,400+ round trip miles, visiting a new city, and meeting some awesome people in addition to an epic concert all add up to make it one of my most cherished memories. Does that make it better than Nashville? I dunno, how could I say? Im not even concerned about comparing them, to be honest.
And again, it was great to meet all you guys. Its funny to think we spent an hour at the other end of the bar and nearly took off without checking out the back end of the place. Im really glad we did because it was the perfect way to end our time in Louisville. Bleary eyed and exhausted, 3:30 AM, waxing philosophic over warm beer and too many cigarettes about how Jim is one of this generations only true rock stars. It was perfect...
