Title: Nashville Setlist
Post by: getinthevan on Aug 16, 2008, 12:45 AM
Just got back to the hotel from the show.  It was great!  I thought at first it was obvious that it was the first night of the tour.  Some problems with Tom's bass early on.  Once the crowd got into it, the band did too.  I made for a really fun show.  There were glowsticks everywhere!

WAR BEGUN!

One Big Holiday

During War Begun there was a large show of fireworks for the football game across the river.  It made that moment all that much more special.

Saw one taper, so hopefully that lands itself on the interweb.  I really like the poster for this show.  I don't really know how to describe it.  Its yellow with red and blue designs on it (looks like it could be 3-D :o ) with the show info in the middle.

WAR BEGUN!
Wordless Chorus
Highly Suspicious
Phone Went West
Dancefloors
Anytime
One Big Holiday

Probably the greatest, most energized sequence of live music I have ever seen. It kept building and building and building...

Face - melted

I don't know how they do it. I was blown away.

more later, I am spent

I had faith but I didn't see it coming Nashville to Kentucky into War Begun!  The fireworks shot off might have been for the Jacket and there teers because they were perfectly placed! Awesome! Trying to get sleep for Lou Ville in the hotel but damn I am excited... :D  ;D :o ;D :D

How did the I Will Sing You Songs ---> Dondante go? I have a feeling had I been there I would have most likely collapsed hearing those two songs in a row. . .

QuoteGod damn War Begun was fucking perfect.

yeah, but it could have been better if fireworks went off near the moon behind the clouds over the bridge over the river when it took off on the crazy solo parts... oh wait, they did.  However, it would have been even better still if some guy had climbed halfway to the top of the staging during the fireworks when it took off, oh wait, that happened too.

I am shaking my head at the pure bliss I was feeling as my senses reached over load. Bliss.  :)

Un-fucking-believable!!!  The perfect concert!!!  War Begun...Fireworks...speechless.  But, let us not forget about the General Jackson strolling behind the stage during Mahgeetah.  Everybody on board was on the stage side!  "I been waitin on the boat here I been waitin so long."   :D

Thanks Kory, aMD and Goose.

Jim said they flew the General Jackson in from Japan for us and that they paid a lot of money to have those fireworks behind us.  At one point it looked like he was at the back corner of the stage playing for the people in their boats on the river.

It was unbelievable! I clamped on my mics to the one taper I saw in the VIP next to Johnny Quaid!
I think my recording is full of clipping but the other taper, Mark had full intentions of uploading to the archive. Thanks for the clamp Mark!

Fun show.  Highlights touched already.  Got a drumhead and drumstick.  So that was nice.  Anyone know a good way to get the guys to sign the drumhead?  I tried after the show but venue personnel threw us out.

QuoteExplain the General Jackson thing more, I'm confused.
The General Jackson is an old-fashioned riverboat that cruises the Cumberland in Nashville with pretty big crowds onboard.  The stage was set up at water's edge (with the river behind, and the crowd up the riverbank), and the boat cruised by twice during the show.  Jim joked that it was a special treat from the band, but it was just serendipity.

Same goes for the fireworks.  The Tennessee Titans preseason game across the river featured small fireworks (shooting out from the scoreboards) every time the team scored, and Jim joked that "we spent a lot of money for those."  The big fireworks show in the YouTube clip was to celebrate the end of the game, and the team's win (such as it is, in an exhibition game).

Between the game and the concert (and, apparently, a smaller Daryl Worley show at Wild Horse Saloon), downtown Nashville was hoppin' last night.  I don't know how the Louisville show can possibly match the lucky magic of last night, but I'm sure the band will do their best for the hometown fans.  (Alas, I can't go, despite living in Louisville; I already had tickets to one of the many shows in town tonight, which is why I traveled to Nashville last night.  But those that are going are in for a treat; last night was damn near perfect.)

Post by: ycartrob on Aug 16, 2008, 02:30 PM
yes, last night was damn near perfect. Could have only been better if a couple of Crunksters had been able to come. 2.5 hours of MMJ is hard to top.

My first GA show where I was not up in the Crunk. But, it was good to see the whole stage and hear everything and get off on the lights. We were rocking hard on the 1st tier there, as was everyone around us.

There was serious bumpin'-grindin' bear action going on during Touh Me Part II. Bri and Corey had nothing on these guys.

Really loved where Wordless Chorus came up in the encore (2nd set). Last few times I saw them it was the opener, but right after War Begun really worked the crowd up into a frenzy. The best Wordless Chorus I have seen.

Then some PB suprise! So happy that they put such a fun obscure song on the record and to see the crowd really get into it when they started the first notes made me so happy. All those people that hate that song....     just awesome how it works and how so many people get it.

Dancefloors! Just so great, the energy after Phone Went West was up, then got higher with the last 3, starting with Dancefloors, one of my favs. The energy for the 2nd set was mind blowing; absolutely had everything to do with the crowd surging 1/2 second behind each note. Still shaking my head b/c the 13 or so times I have seen them, I was not ready to be that blown away.

Liked Jim trying to sneak off stage while playing the last omnichord notes of Touch Me II, and when he touched off Good Intentions everyone hauled ass off stage.

Smokin From Shootin into Touch Me I'm Going To Scream Pt. 2 also blew me away.

Great too see Brad, Meg and met Ian (don't recall his board name), who came very, very close to making me understand that it was my civic duty to go to the Louisville show. Thanks man, you were as close to getting me up there as anyone.

I got a ton more to say, but can't wrap my brain around it (War Begun!) Really, really, really, really, bummed I cannot go to Louisville. Man, you guys are in for a treat!

Best show I've seen in a long time.  The boys were on point and a great setlist.  I was able to sneak in my DSLR so I got some pretty good shots.  Wasn't close enough to get some great shots but here are the best ones.

The guy climbing the stage was my roommate and the bass player in my band Lawndart Casualty.  He said he'd been plotting to do it the whole time and just waited til the time was right.  The security guard moved to pick up some glowsticks and he went for it.  He didn't get kicked out and actually apologized to security later in the night.  Security told him that he was just glad he didn't get hurt and that  it was actually a pretty badass stunt.  It was my tenth show and one of the best I've ever seen.

Over the weekend, my Mom, whom went with me to good ol' Nashvegas, told me that while she didn't enjoy what was going on around us at the show (someone smoking something that smelled terrible and people using our position as a walkway) she did enjoy the music and since the show she has since been listening to them quite a bit and really likes them.

Now thats a run-on sentence.
