Where is everyone going? The Khyber?
i'm hearing Silk City, stay tuned!
Ahhhh, Silk City.
The first time that I ever saw a person with a fully tattooed skull it was at Silk City.
Good times, good times. ;)
After every MMJ show we have huge after-party plans, but by the end of the show we're drained, in awe, and out brains have turned to mush.
let me know but i have to catch an 8am train to Boston for the pre face melting party....BUt let me know anyway, in case in JJ doesn't invite me back to his tourbus. oh stoppppppppppppppp
Ive learned that I simply cant handle after parties with MMJ concerts. I dont know if its so much that I cant handle it as it is I dont want to. Heading out to a loud, crowded bar where I cant hear myself think let alone talk isnt my deal to begin with, and certainly isnt after a show. I like to sit back, maybe have a drink, and let it sink in, talk about it with people and enjoy the moment. Probably sounds corny, but I think its a fitting end to the night.
my vote's the khyber, but i'm open for suggestions. rud, sounds like yr usually hitting up the wrong bars after the shows. liberace piano bars are no place for mmj fans post show

Jim Beam, your porch, and a fire?

It wouldnt be the first time I lit firewood in a charcoal grill in an urban evnironment to remind myself of home...that sounds like a plan ;D
well i hope a solid mmj central hub is set up, for before or after the show. have never been to any mmj show gatherings...would like to meet some good fans.
is the khyber close to the venue?
here is the deal for Friday, hope to see everyone out!

The Khyber site isn't loading for me right now, but I think they've got a few bands playing on Friday. If you go after MMJ, you may have to pay a cover.
Despite that, if I've got anything left to give, I'll probably head back towards the Kyhber afterwards. Nothing against Silk City, but I'll probably park closer to the Kyhber than on Spring Garden (how is that area these days?) so that after the show, I'll be heading in the general direction of my car.
There used to be an Irish pub on that end of S. 2nd. Anyone know if it's still there? I wonder if the Tin Angel has anyone good playing?
things to consider:
friday is First Friday, the art opening day in Olde City...where the Khyber is located. this is the worst traffic day of the month and garages cost $25+. The downstairs bar has an $8 cover with no-names on stage. The upstairs has no cover but TECHNO djs, welcome back to 1994(the bad part of 1994). God love the Khyber, but Friday would be a "shit-show"
Silk City is only 5 short blocks away, much lower cover (i heard $5 or $3 w/ MMJ ticket)...Spring Garden is gorgeous nowadays...plus here is a fun post 2am bar there for this season's Fringe Festival which is a post Silk option. Did i mention the FREE KEG?!
I'm gonna try to make it to Silk City. Can't pass up the free beer, hopefully it lasts for a decent amount of time. See ya there JerseyDan.
thanks jerseydan. i love the khyber, but it sounds like a no brainer. silk city it is. save me a plastic cup
just looking at a map and silk city looks like a hike from the venue---so it's 5 blocks? just wondering...i don't know philly at all

basically from the gates of the venue you make a right and walk one block to the corner of Spring Garden & Columbus Blvd. you walk up Spring Garden and its at the corner of 5th & Spring Garden. Googlemaps says 0.4 mile door-to-door
my boys who are throwing the party will add you to the REDUCED list if you add them to their myspace: www.myspace.com/choicetasters
i check myspace at work but i checked another site--wait, so this is a diner ?? i'm going to try to make it, though! i have to check w/ a couple other people.

Silk City is 1/2 diner 1/2 club, here is what NY Times said about it:

thanks, dan. looks like a cool place---i will most likely make it--
i'm also wondering if people are meeting up before the show--we'll be in town a little earlier ---i know there's another thread but i'm too lazy to find it-somewhere w/in walking distance--not too cheesy
Im with ya Dan. Silk city it is. ;) Free Keg! ;D
Hey Everyone. I'm in for the post party at silk city! The question is what is going on for the pre-party? Looking forward to meeting everyone. I'll be the guy rocking some bagpipes tomorrow!
What time is everyone planning to line-up at the gates for the show?

Thanks for this info. Had no idea about the First Friday thing...which sounds cool for all things except parking. :)
Good news about Spring Garden, too. That neighborhood was one that, in the past, I'd never walk alone in, let alone leave my car on the street. Haven't eaten at Silk City in so long...hope that I can make it. Will be a kind of reunion. :)
i'll be here and probably wearing a black or pink --holler at me if you see me!!!

I'll be wearing my kilt! :D
i will be the tan kid walking around in the "Mr. November" Obama shirt that The National issued as a fundraiser tool!
pm me if you are def coming, i'll try and get everyone here AT LEAST on the reduced-cover list!
