Post by: coupon on Sep 03, 2008, 06:38 PM
Thought I'd follow up on my initiation at Red Rocks with a quick trip to Montana. Only 3,300 are gettin' in, and I'm one of 'em; Row 4

I just saw that we are going to get a treat here in Montana in late September. I have not seen MMJ since late 2004 when they play back in Louisville at Headliners, with the old line up. I have been a fan for awhile, actually went to school with Jim and wrestled against him at Saint Xavier freshmen and sophomore year. Crazy.  Anyways I was wondering if any way to get a hold of Jim just to say "hey, way to go, well done my friend" and ask him to hook a old Highlands (Louisville KY) native up with some tickets.  Anyways.. JIm if you read this and can remember back to the 125 weight class JV wrestling team at St. X in 93 it would great to say hey, and too hook you guys up with some spots to chill out in Bozeman while waiting to play. Give me a line at    Staskusak@hotmail.com . Peace out. look forward to hearing MMJ live in Bozeman!

hey jim, my name is Casey Smith - I ALSO wrestled against you JV season. REMEMBER ME?!.  Just wanted to catch up with ya when you come to Berkeley.   Ya, this is where i live now.  Crazy where life takes ya.  One minute your drinkin' whiskey and shootin' 22's with the good ol' boys in Kentucky and the next thing you know your working some internet environmental awareness non profit in Oakland California. I got a real cool house though, it's right near the venue.  Also, my brother has a bar in downtown we can go party at after your show... Let's put down some tall boys, just like old times and we'll see if I can still pin you like the bitch you are!  Hit me up Jimmy!

Unfortunately due to a scheduling conflict, My Morning Jacket has cancelled their show on Tuesday, September 30 at The Brick Breeden Fieldhouse in Bozeman, MT.  Fans who purchased tickets through the Bobcat Ticket Office (either in person or over the phone), can return their tickets to the Bobcat Ticket Office for a refund.  Tickets purchased through TicketsWest (either online or their call center) will be given an automatic refund.  Tickets purchased at an outlet must be returned to the same outlet for a refund.

Bummer...  it sucks when a band unexpectedly adds a date then cancels it.  At least it wasn't like Dream Theater a couple years ago when they cancelled the day of.

This is highly suspicious. Scheduling conflict my ass. How does a show of this size get booked and stay booked for weeks without someone catching a scheduling conflict?

The simple fact is the Bozeman show has been canceled due to lack of ticket sales. The theater in the Brick is a 3,300 seat venue and as of Friday last week they hadn't sold half of the tickets yet. Lets be honest about why the show is canceled. I can understand the economics of it. If its not profitable to make the stop then you don't, and I 'm sure these guys wouldn't mind another night off. Just tell the truth.

Logistically speaking it would have been a better move to book a show in Spokane, WA; Boise, ID; or Salt Lake City, UT on the way back east after the Portland show. There is a much greater likelihood of selling venues in one of those three spots than there was in Bozeman, MT.

Way to go, Bozeman, you donkeys. Too busy elk hunting to see a rock n roll show? The entire state of Montana should smear themselves in bacon grease and walk into grizzly country.

On the bright side, now I won't be tempted to buy a $50 T-shirt.

Goodbye 4th row, I hardly knew you.

Wow, I'm glad I didn't commmit to this show.  It would have been the 2nd one cancelled for me this tour. :(
I second the Salt Lake stop though!!! Pretty please :-* :-*

Complete bummer.  If it has to do with lack of sales then the blame needs to be put on the promoter.  A bunch of us were coming from Jackson, WY.  There was absolutley zero marketing on this show.  No radio, newspaper - zero.  I was pretty much responsible for selling at least 10 to 20 tickets by word of mouth.

I am so disappointed.  Not a great move for MMJ either as they are trying to build their fan base and a successful show in the rockies would have done that.  Oh well - cheers to the streams and downloads and hopefully a winter tour back in the west.

I heard it got cancelled because MMJ originally wanted to play in Missoula, but had to settle for Bozeman. The boys then realized that if they couldn't play in the Missoula than Montana would have to wait...

Well, after looking at the dates, Bozeman was Tuesday, the 30th and Leno is Monday, the 22nd.   Unless I'm missing something, one had nothing to do with the other.

I can't believe the show is cancelled. Seriously, "scheduling conflict"? That is very suspicicous! We had to make some major arrangements to get to this show, not to mention cancelling our son's second birthday party (okay, we are rescheduling that)!

Okay, as a resident of the BEAUTIFUL city of Bozeman (those MMJ assholes are really missing out by skipping this location) I have to say something. I can't really defend the lack of ticket sales, except to say this is a small town, and even though it is a college town, it is a small town - so why not play a small venue? Duh? Wilco was here a few months ago and sold out in like 2 seconds, because they chose to play a small venue at a small town. Really, is it all about the money? Why not sell half the tickets for an extra ten bucks and make is the show of the decade my squishing in real fans who will be totally captivated? It worked for Wilco, and Steve Earle, and Lucinda Williams and all of the other excellent artists we get who play at the Emerson!
***Okay, a small amount of the blame can lie on the promoters though, this show was NOT advertised.

What an excellent surprise to have MMJ add a show in little 'ole Bozeman.  And then they trumped it with yet a bigger surprise, a cancellation.  Still feeling quite pissed to have to turn in the 5th row tickets we scored.  Can't say I agree with the Missoula theory, the Jay Leno theory or the lack of advertising theory that's out there about why they cancelled.  I've actually heard quite a bit of advertising on KGLT and the Moose.  The Bozone advertised in their early September publication as did some others newspapers in the state, too.  KGLT played a MMJ set over the last weekend.  The Moose is beating Evil Urges tunes into the ground.  The promoting has definitely been there I've found, building it up, trying to sell tickets.  Just last week I heard the morning person on the Moose say, "You better get tickets if you haven't already. I know someone 'who's in the know' about these kinds of things and all the floor seats are sold out and that tickets were going fast."  It can't be a lack of ticket sales.  I agree, though, the promoters could be to blame.  Bozeman's a fickle place in general, unfortunately, when it comes to these types of bands coming through and filling a 3,000 - 8,000 person stadium.  But I've talked to quite a few people who had tickets and planned on going.  If it were Porterhouse or Vootie they'd be scramblin' to try and make something still happen here in Bozeman.  Stupid Knitting Factory productions or whoever they are.  MMJ, this is my plea for you to consider still making a stop in Bozeman in between your Seattle and Minneapolis shows(you have four days!!??) and play the Filling Station!  There's no show scheduled that night at the Filler that I see.  Slip on in there last minute and make it happen!  Band of Horses sold out two shows there after adding a second show just a week before their gig date.  Porterhouse, maybe even Compound Productions could make it happen!  Don't isolate your Montana fanbase if there's any way to avoid it.  Super sad.  Super disappointed.  And to reiterate coupon's plea, give us the straight dope.  Either that, or let me know if you need the contact for the Filling Station.  Small, last minute, surprise show for the diehards.  Maybe??!!

The simple fact is the Bozeman show has been canceled due to lack of ticket sales.

first I will say I love this band! (and cannot wait until NYE..see ya in the Pit)  But I do think that this statement has some validity.  I honestly believe this is exactly what happened in Vegas.  Yes, I'm a bit bitter about Vegas, airfare was purchased, plans were made...and so on.  I spend a lot of time in Vegas for work (in fact I'm in Vegas right now), and usually stay at the Hard Rock.   About a week prior to the Vegas cancellation I was at the Hard Rock, and went to the box office and inquired about the MMJ show.  I asked the woman working how ticket sales were for the show and was informed that there were plenty of tickets.  I asked her if it was even half sold out and was told it was not.  I think this has everything to do with the cancellation.  As much as I love me some MMJ, I kind of think this to be BS.  I'm sure it's more of a management thing than the band, but it's just not right.

That said....NYE is going to be insane!
