I searched thru the threads, and since i', new, sorry if you've already done this one--given that we don't get many covers (which is a good thing), the ones we get are pretty damn good.....so if you had to pick one to hear jim sing and/or the band kick ass on, what would it be??????????????????(anything goes)
some allman brothers would be sweet.
Wots, Uh.. The Deal by Pink Floyd.
"death sound" by country joe and the fish.
"Out on the Weekend"- Neil Young
Have a Cigar by Pink Floyd would be pretty sweet.
anything the jacket covers will be phenominal, because they can take a song and make it their own while still holding on to the core of that particular song.
but... i think they could take the following songs and take them to a whole new level:
tin man/ america
the boys are back in town/ thin lizzy
i'll be around/ the spinners
happiness is a warm gun/ the beatles
doctor, my eyes/ jackson browne
up on the roof/ the drifters
in the event jim ever did some acoustic stuff with these, i would die (if that happens, please take care of my dog):
vincent/don mclean
my chei amor/ stevie wonder
hello, it's me/ todd rundgren
corrina, corrina/ bob dylan
travelin' man/ ricky nelson
If they ever cover "Stranglehold" I would shit in my pants.......two times.
their cover of "Tyrone" on Chapter 2 is amazing. they nailed that one, dead on.
I'd love to hear them bust out "Don't Stop Believin'" again. They only played it once that I know of and there is no known recording.
Or...
Seven Days by bob dylan
Winterlong by neil young
How Can You be Sure by radiohead
wots...uh the deal.
man, such a good song.
Hmm... Anything by the Dave Matthews Band would be incredible (a boy can dream).
7 - Prince
Aint It Funny How Time Slips Away - Willie Nelson
Lucky - Radiohead
Hey Ya - Outkast
Here Comes Your Man - Pixies
Hotel Yorba - White Stripes
Word.
Metal Militia, from Metallica's Kill 'Em All

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise) from the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
Roadhouse Blues.......
QuoteRoadhouse Blues.......
That's a good one, but if I could pick one from Morrison Hotel, it'd be Queen of the Highway.
The Smashing Pumpkins~Muzzle
How about "Nutshell" or "Brother" by Alice In Chains...???
QuoteHow about "Nutshell" or "Brother" by Alice In Chains...???

Sun King - The Beatles (but with a mmj twist and extended version)

Aint Nobody Humpin' Around- Bobby Brown
Which album is this off of again?
When you trust someone
and you know you're on their back
You ain't got no trusting about you
And you claim that you
Don't care what where I'm at
You've given me reason to doubt you
Say you trust someone
Why are you calling all around
Think I've got some dip on the side
Girl you don't trust no one
And you're constantly in doubt
You lose the game, if you play that way
CHORUS:
Get up off my back
Save a heart attack
Ain't nobody Humpin' Around (Ain't nobody humpin around)
No matter what they say
You got the good that I want
Ain't no need to go and hump around on meeeee
Nobody x5
Humpin' around babe
When you love someone
And you want to love them right
Got to get more lovin' about you
And you know that you're holding on too tight
Soon they will be leaving without you
Say that you love someone
Why are you calling all my friends
Thinking I've got something to hide
Girl you don't love no one
You don't know what love's all about
You lose the game, (if you) if you play that way
CHROUS
Nobody x7
Humpin' around babe
Girl if you trust someone
You don't call on everybody
Ain't nobody foolin' around
And the more I think about it
You lose all your clout and
You lose the game, baby, if you play that way
CHORUS
Girl you said you love me
And you said you trust me
Why do you think I'm foolin' around
I can't stand the pressure
You know I'm yours forever
Ain't nobody, nobody, humpin' around
CHORUS x2

Brian I have no clue what album that is off of. I thought of another "Poison"- Bel Biv Devoe just so I could hear Jim sing "you cant trust a big butt and a smile" :)
at one point in my weekend of debauchery, a friend of mine and i found some mix tapes i had made in eighth grade. we sat and listened and giggled and listened and... then i heard a song that would be perfect for mmj to cover:
fade into you/mazzy star
just imagine: carl on the steel guitar, jim's voice haunting you like "the one that got away," and reverb, reverb, reverb... it would make you giddy and dizzy and weak in the knees: just like falling in love (but without all the bad side effects). it would be... sublime.
woah. if this ever happened, i would probably implode. :o
i would also like to hear:
aimee/pure prarie league
stuck in the middle with you/ steeler's wheel
twistin' the night away/ sam cooke
or jim howlin' out some wesley willis ;D
but fade into you... goddamn, that would be wicked.
Have they covered Bob Dylan? Maggies Farm would be cool.

To quote Jim "Me to, Me too." That would be like re-living college all over again at least the good years. Not the I drank way too much and have LAAAARGE periods of no recolection of what happened and I drank THAT and did I actually attend classes years.
Personally if they did the Doors, I'd go with Peace Frog as that's my personal fav. Any Thin Lizzy or the Nuge would be bad ass. Someone mentioned Todd Rundren. That would be a great choice as well. Hello It's Me or I Saw The Light would be good but I think Can We Still be Friends would cause us all to have a simultaneous epiphany that we may never recover from. :o :'(
Poison - would be the shit.....p-p-p-p poison, poison.
DAZED & CONFUSED!!!!! :o :o :o :o :o

That would better showcase Jim's range!
Had to let this one stew for a few. Some AIC really would be reeeaaally cool!
Cupid - (Sam Cooke)
Stubb (A Dub) - (Mr. Bungle)
Your Song or Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - (Elton John)
Cemetery Gates - (Pantera)
Winter - (Tori Amos)
Life by the Drop - (Stevie Ray Vaughn)
What Deaner Was Talkin' About, Tender Situation, or a nice sing-along like Baby Bitch - (WEEN)
KY Rain....Elvis Presley-----that would be fucking sweet
Starship Trooper - Yes
Fortunate Son- CCR
Interstellar Overdrive- Pink Floyd
MY FIRST POST!!! ;D
Welcome the dark! Great suggestions, I love Yes - I bet South Side of the Sky might be pretty cool.

Hot Burrito #1 and #2- The Flying Burrito Brothers
All Things Must Pass- George Harrison

:)
Fade into you~Mazzy Star
I love thier soul covers...so i agree with Hey Ya by Outkast - that would be simply amazing and so fucking danceable and delightful i really dont know what i would do if i heard it live by them.
Lean On Me - Bill Withers
Strawberry Letter 9 - Shuggie Ottis
Rock With You - M. Jackson
Aint No Sunshine - Withers
Anything by Stevie Wonder...
Jims lyrics are very soulful and full of love and promise - and his voice is so comparable to many of the great soul singers..
Just got an epiphany...
In The Court Of The Crimson King by ...KING CRIMSON
Think about it.
Sure, if Jim's wearing his red suit! (or is that what you mean? :-/)
QuoteSure, if Jim's wearing his red suit! (or is that what you mean? :-/)
Are you talking about King Crimson? Did they wear red suits? Or are you talking about something else? Anyway, I'm confused.

I really [smiley=thumbsup.gif] DIG everyone of your suggestions!!!
In preparation for the big reunion tonight I threw on Message in a Box - the Police. And I must say that the Jacket could really do a sweet version of "Bring on the Night...then launch right into Phone Went West -- or vice versa.

It's actually Message in a Bottle. Message in a Box is the name of their box set.
Ummm, I was listening to Message in Box (yes, the box set), when I heard Bring on the Night... :-?
Sorry, misread that. ;)
I skimmed, and I don't think I seen these....
1. Wish You Were Here-Floyd
2. No Quarter-Zep
3. Stab-Built To Spill
4. Jody Girl/Night Moves-Bob Seger
5. Any Devo cover would be dope!
And that Mazzy Star song someone referenced earlier was a great call!

Thanks. I just think it'd be awesome, Carl on the pedal steel...nice n mellow...yeah.
Dreamer in My Dreams - from Wilco's Being There
It's an awesome and underrated finale. MMJ could really rock to this one for awhile, with Bo replacing the original's violin with some organy keyboard or something. I would put it as the second to last song of a show. Check it out--how great was "I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man" as the second to last song at Bonaroo '05? Something like that!
I just saw the pop up video for the Bangles "Walk like and Egyptian".
I think they could do a killer version of it, and Jim's vocal range is perfect for it.
Freddie King-Palace of the King ;D ;D
