I absolutely HATE the venue.  I used to think it was great when it was still the State Theatre, but now security spends all their time yelling at people who are using their cell phones, shining flash lights in peoples faces for the entire show, and taking any and all water bottles from people as they leave the venue.  My sister was told that if she took a picture with her phone that it would become property of Live Nation and be confiscated.  Yet when people were standing on top of their seats in the balcony, they claimed they couldn't do anything about it even though it was blocking the view for an entire section of people.  Assholes.  They do have free apples though...

Sorry for the rant, I've been drinking a bit.

I was thinking about going but it kind of conflicts with my whole "Dont Get Shot" policy.

Im originally from detroit, so i am planning on going. but detroit, especially at night, is indeed dangerous.
but its not far from the interstate, so im going to tough it out and go anyhow.

There's parking at Comerica Park, right across the street from the venue.  It's like $10-$12.  I've also parked in an underground ramp down the street a bit.  Only once have I been threatened by anyone in Detroit.  It was a bum and my friend was wearing a pink shirt and I have long hair.  Apparently that makes us homosexuals and he followed us for a block yelling, "Don't be holdin' hands on my block or I'll knife you!".

it's not dangerous - it's just that you "don't feel safe".

Do you know if there is safe on the street parking? Is it a really bad area? I'm from pittsburgh and there's a lot of bad places around here.

I actually don't have any idea about street parking.
Title: Re: Detroit Show Oct 4th Anyone going?
Post by: Im The Dude on Sep 02, 2008, 11:33 AM
O, so there is a parking garage across the street? The whole reason for going is that is going to be an inside venue. Which I've seen them in last time a few years ago. My friends and I are making a weekend trip out of it too.
Title: Re: Detroit Show Oct 4th Anyone going?
Post by: getinthevan on Sep 02, 2008, 01:00 PM
There's two parking lots across the street.  Literally, you can walk out of your car, across the street, and into the venue.  If you get there early you shouldn't have a problem getting a spot.  There's all sorts of places to park around there at varying costs and with varying levels of security.

I park about two blocks behind The Fillmore/State.  There are people who wave you in parking lots but there are spots right on the street for free. I have a small Subaru so it's probably not a high interest target.  Been going to the area for years and never had a problem. I'll admit though it must be scary looking to visitors.

QuoteI have a small Subaru so it's probably not a high interest target.

I used to think the same thing about my '98 Tracker.  After three break-in's, I'm think I'm just unlucky.  But only once was in Detroit and that was at Harpo's which is in a shit part of town anyways.

See everyone there! And to who said that Detroit wasn't dangerous, but you just feel really unsafe, yeah that's the best way to put it. Just try to mind your own business and don't wander too far from the venue and the football/baseball stadiums. It gets scary quickly. Try to check out a map before the show too so you can get out quickly without the threat of getting lost.

And just be smart where you park. If an abandoned gas station lets you park there for 5 bucks and doesn't give you a parking ticket and everyone looks scary including the dog, park somewhere else.

I've pondered chiming in here for a day or two...I grew up in and around this city for 26 years before I moved out here to the Chicago area. Been to every venue mentioned here....and am horribly sorry I never got to see MMJ at St Andrews.....( they played early Z tour ) and I'm sure some other time too.

Anyhow, the Filmore ( The State ) always will be to me....is alright. Right next to the Fox. It's in the best part of the town....and whomever just posted before me, said it best....stay in that area.
Detroit really isn't all that bad....until you get lost. Then it get's sketchy.....

And someone mentioned Harpo's....christ sake man......that place was brutal. I wonder if you're still ankle deep in urine when you go to the bathroom..??

Well, no real point in this post....I miss Detroit terribly and wish I could go. But I do get two in a row here in Chicago...

Harpo's does have metal detectors now though, that makes me feel a tiny bit safer when I go there.

I'll be there absorbing their sound into my soul.  can't way to see what they bust out.  hopefully they bust out some seriously rockin shit.  I'm seeing sigur ros at the filmore tomorrow and I'll need a good rock the fuck out pick me up after that show even though it's gonna probably be pretty good.  I am determined to have fun no matter what happens, nothing will bring me down that day for it will be the most rocking day of the year for michigan. long live my morning jacket.  Detroit Rock City is waiting.

Oh I am going. I hope so bad that they play  Run Thru. I have been waiting for so long for this I am about to explode out of my skin. I am coming from Toledo, and I am sure we will smoke the entire way to Detroit.

I have to say though, anyone coming from out of town must do themselves a favor and go to Pizza Papalis', and Astoria bakery (right next door from each other) in Greektown. Seriously.

wish you were there it was really awesome.  they had an awesome stage show, first time I've got to check them out.  It was interesting just seeing the 4 of them up there compared to with the brass band/violins like heima and the bonnaroo 08 set.  still sweet though.

the security is definitely a piece of shit at the state/filmore.  however, the area is pretty safe.  definitely isn't even close to the "bad" part of detroit.  there is also an underground parking garage on the corner of woodward and grand river that is moderately priced.  it's usually like 6-10bucks and is only about two blocks away.  all the walking is basically on woodward so it's as safe as you can get for d-town without paying 20bucks for the parking right next door.  something to think about for people who haven't been to the D before.

I'm gonna be at the show with bells on! I would kill to hear Cobra, and since they have been playing it on this tour - I can only hope! I am very curious to see how packed the Filmore gets, I am not so keen on that venue, but what are ya gonna do? I've seem the band twice at St. Andrews over the past few years, and it wasn't jam packed.

There is gonna be a lot of love in that building on Saturday!

Side note to Sticky: I wanted to see Sigur Ros so bad, but just couldn't do it. How was the show?

it was really a beautiful night.  I had little expectations since I've never seen them play.  everything they did was just a little bit weird.  the audience was pretty awesome for the most part and at the important moments.  they had lots of cool things on stage.  at first it was just a video curtain.  my friend who I drug with me because he, prior to the show, hated them.  but he loves music so went anyways.  as soon as he said that things just got weirder and weirder.  each song was a different little type of light show display.  the curtain would project the band members playing, it was a little out of sync but still cool, then it would zip away for the next song and be a bunch of floating glowing balls like it was for bonnaroo.  there at one point looked to be burning ambers falling from the house lighting, it was bubbles or something because it evaporated before it hit the ground or stage.  it was orange.  then there was a huge projection of all these crazy images of things floating and burning at the same time.  it was weird.  what else was cool.. they played this really soft tune by candle light persay.  except the candles would fade out when they stopped playing/singing.  they eventually pulsed along with the vocals,  it was really interesting and intimate all night.  except for one dumb bitch who yelled freebird twice. I bet the sigur ros fans ate her shortly after they seemed devoted.  the very end was an explosion of confetti.  my friend thought it was cool but was like "it's no flaming lips concert" (lucky bastard saw them at that clutch cargos show and said the confetti was past his ankles.)

it was a very chill night, sometimes I wanted songs to be over but right about that time they'd explode.  definitely worth 35bucks.  crazy icelantic bastards

Good luck.  In my experience, it depends on how lazy the security people are.  Sometimes its no problem to get anything in, other times, its impossible.  It all depends on the person who checks you.

I'll be there with my little sister and a friend of mine.

I wear a Slayer shirt with this on it:

Travel safe all, and see ya at the show! 8-)

P.S. Thanks Sticky for the Sigur Ros review. I am jealous! They played in Grand Rapids last year at Calvin College, which is a tiny venue, but I didn't get to go then either. Soon I hope. Cheers.

Damn!  What a show, especially the second half!  Just when I thought there was no way they had time to play Cobra, Bam! Cobra!

Met The Dude and Ms. Yvon in line, then talked to Ms. Yvon for a bit after the show.  Met some drunk Canadian's who bought us fries.  Met all sorts of people, there's such wonderful people that go to these shows!

The poster was sweet!  A mother bear guarding two cubs and flying off the opposite side appears to be a predator of some sort.  I'll try to get a picture tomorrow.

There was a taper, he said he's going to put the recording up online.  Archive maybe?  I was hearing things very well at that point.

More on the show when I'm not exhausted.

oh man what an amazingly fun time tonight was.  we had a decent spot.  I am still a little in awe of what I just witnessed.  not sure how the set compares to the other recent ones since I'm been avoiding it but I was thoroughly satisfied.  The Band was on fire, they seemed to really be enjoying it.  the audience was rad.  I was spazzing the whole time and kept stepping on this dudes toes that was behind me (if you're reading this dude, sorry again).   it was just a well balanced show.  they seemed like they were getting the fuck down like no other.  Dondante.  That's all I have to say.  That shit was in-sane.  it broke into a crazy f'n jam and it was almost like "how are they going to get out of this it sounds so fucking crazy and rockin" but they did get out of it, it was wonderful.  Run Thru was such a surprise.  I don't know why I wasn't expecting it.  I figured it was the end since it was touch me part 2 but right after the scream an explosion of drums and sound directly into run thru.  you could feel and see the whole floor instantly shift forward towards the stage almost get pulled by it's bad assness.
Cobra, what can I say.  I was hoping to catch this or War Begun and let me tell you the Cobra is what's up.  that shit is the funkiest break it down, dance and stomp on it shit even and then the explosion is just amazing.  They RIPPED apart One Big Holiday, Carl was on fire.  Patrick was RIPPING part the drums all night long, this was my 5th show I've seen them and by far the best.  it was just a superb performance.  and again the crowd was probably one of my favorite of any show I've ever been at.  everyone is so friendly and awesome at jacket shows.

Dude who got kicked out early for smoking a joint, that fuck sucks so bad I felt your pain as security took you away.  they have to get paid a bonus for every person they bust.  pop on some ratm, get pissed, and get pay back.  fuck that security.

amazing show, I'd love to hear how people compare it to other shows this tour.  Jim was talkative as hell, they all looked happy from the best I could tell.  best band around right now.  inspire people my morning jacket, inspire them all.  I just saw a anti-drug commerical for acid, wtf? when was acid a problem.  a revolution is a brewin'.  show fucking rocked so hard.  the cape is fucking rad.

Great review sticky! That was a bummer about the dude getting thrown out.Jeeze I swear it was easier to smoke at shows in the 80's than it is now.Unfortunately as a society we've digressed. At a show in Tennessee a few years back there were police dressed like swat teams ripping through the crowd with clubs and face shields. It was a Bob Dylan Willie Nelson show which is typically a pretty peaceful crowd.Ridiculous

i cant believe the roof of The Fillmore actually blew off last night, faces melted everywhere, and my beer started to boil at one point (actually boiled the whole night).

what an amazing, amazing show. Met some great people, the fillmore was great, the setlist was a nice mix and complimented the other two shows I have attended this year well. Great to hear Cobra, MAhgeetah, Dondante, Off the record (which really got the crowd started)...

Patrick is absolutely unreal...

I noticed at least 2 audio tapers and 1 video...hope these get out!

CAn we start yesterday over again?

exhausted,

Yv

As youngvedder said... "Can we start yesterday over again?"

If only...

I got to the D early and I stood in line with some cool folks. That started it off right! I was looking for getinthevan's Slayer shirt, and since there were 2 lines to get in, I missed seeing him and Ms. Yvon  :'( I probably walked right by you guys.

The crowd was great as always. I tell ya, a good crowd makes the show so much more exciting and entertaining, and the Jacket crowd didn't disappoint. I was right up close, in front of Carl and I met a few first timers too (my boyfriend included - I finally converted him!) They were geeked which in turn made me even more excited to see the show.

This was my 5th show and the guys were nothing less than spectacular! I bet they have played Golden 15,000 times but it was like a brand new song. It was a high energy show and they looked like they were really having fun. They all just killed it! Each time I see the band, my appreciation and love grows!!

I was so hoping for Cobra and damn, if they didn't rock the roof off with that awesomeness!!

After the show, some LiveNation people (I think) were handing out free posters. They were pretty cool. It had the venue, date and a nice squirrel graphic printed on it. I snagged one and after going back to my car, decided to go wait by the bus to see the guys. I missed seeing Bo (he must have booked right after the show), but Two Tone, Patrick, Jim and Carl came right out and signed my poster. Goddamn MY shaky knees!! I finally met my favorite band, of course I was too chicken to say much.  :-X (Today I thought of many intelligent things to say, of course). There were many pictures taken and they signed everyone's stuff. They are such nice guys!!!

Now I must contain myself until Friday for the show in Chicago. I can't wait. 2 shows in one week. I am in heaven right now  :D

First time seeing this fucking amazing band live, not including when I saw them open for Pearl Jam, where I was introduced to them. What a fucking amazing night. Directly in front of Jim. One point during Mahgeeta while I was jumping, Jim came right up to me and we were headbanging for a good 10 seconds or so. For those 10 seconds, Jim and I were in our own little world.

I don't know how that show compares to others, but I would not be surprised if this was an even more stellar than usual show. So. Fucking. Amazing. My highlights of the show constantly change.

I would love a memory of this show so much, and hope a video was out there but I'm not getting my hopes up. I however would love an audio recording. If anyone has any such luck with this, please let us all know! Thank you very much to the board and again for the band for fucking melting my face off.

if you saw me, I was the kid in the tie die shirt and 87 crosby hat.  I waited in like for 3 to 4 hours before the show.  I'm sure, I saw some of you guys.

hooray for spontaneous decisions!

last sunday's show in seattle was supposed to be my last of the tour.  but...
thursday night at about 9pm i found a plane ticket to detroit with a price too good to pass up.  i had plans to see the swell season in los angeles on saturday with a friend.  when i called him about the plane fare, he said, "maybe i'll go too!"

so my friend, who'd heard, but never seen mmj, met me at LAX friday night to catch a red-eye to detroit.  :D

we got in at 5:30, picked our car and headed to the hotel i'd booked on hotwire (i LOVE hotwire for this kind of travel!).  got there in time to have free breakfast with all the people who were just starting their day.  we were a little travel weary, and were surrounded by "just out of the gym" people.
during our breakfast, a man dining alone at the table behind us, interrupted our conversation with this, "young lady (!) would you like to see what fear looks like?"  not an inviting opening line... turns out he was eager that we see the news coverage of oj simpson being convicted of whatever he was on trial for.  i said, "oh.  hmm." to not be rude and turned back to my scrambled eggs.

Number One personal highlight from Embassy Suites Romulus:  Push button gravy dispenser.  (when we checked out this morning at 4:15am i made my friend pose for a pic with it.  :) )

we got to the venue a little early and met some really friendly people in line. of the 8 people on either side of us, none of them was from detroit:  lansing, kalamazoo, toledo, ohio.  detroit is a show hub for a lot of cities in the area.   i gave out some of the stickers i'd made for the tour.  of the guys in front of us said, "hey!  i read about these!"  i didn't ask him where, but it totally made my night.

ok.  my one and only bitch about livenation:  their break up with ticketmaster is making things weird and shitty for concert goers.  the weird tension created by the "fast lane" ticket holders and the ticketmaster ticket holders was just a drag.  heard two versions of the fast track line:
1:  that subscribers pay a fee and PURCHASE the ability to enter the concert ahead of the general ticket holding population
2:  that people who purchased their tix thru livenation, not ticketmaster were allowed to enter early, it didn't cost them anything extra.
either way:  lame.  i wish these businesses would stop looking for angles to make another dollar and just let things be.

done.

...my friend and i got a great spot down in front of carl, but not in front of the speaker stacks.  being at one end of the stage is great for watching the entire stage at once. the stage at this fillmore is quite low, and the gap between stage and barrier is small.
the theatre is gorgeous!  a bartender told me that in the conversion from "the state theatre" to the fillmore, a lot of effort was put into restoration.

along the walls hung chandeliers. the procenium around the stage (theatre class, anyone?  ;) ) was ornate and included niches on either side featuring sculptures of larger than life suits of armor.  reminded me of the men who were wearing red robes, carrying shields and were practicing military manoeuvers at the park near the greek theatre in l.a.  kind of odd.  kind of awesome.

(have to get an cappuccino refill, then i will continue this post...and maybe even get to the show!   ;D )

after the show, my friend wendy commented that some bands take a little time to ramp up at a show, but this band comes out of the gate playing at full energy.

setlist has been posted (thanks!), so i'll just add some notes:

--Evil Urges--the sound was great!  carl and tom were super crisp in the mix!
--Touch Me pt 1--after the show last night my friend asked me, "what's the deal with the cape?"  ;D

--OTR
--Aluminum Park--it is clear that this will be a "let's rock detroit" set  ;D
the setlist taped down next to carl's pedals got a bit "danced apart" here.
--Way he sings--ahhhh!

-jim takes a minute to assure us that should some uprising occur while we're at the show the suits of armor will keep us safe.  at which point the lights swung around to key them.
--i'm amazed--WHERE IS THE JUSTICE?!
--IT BEATS 4U--HOT DAMN!--carl @ end:  WOW!

--thank you too--very cool as the woman next to me in line had hoped to hear this.
--sec walkin'
--magheeta--jim picking intro here...lots of new segues between songs.  bridges, noise, guitar bits!  --EVERYONE SING!  BIG STOMP FINISH!

--lay low--i love the jam on this when it gets cooking!  tt laid way back at the top of this like he was settling in.  could also see some smiles between tt and bo.
(there was a LOT of smiling and face making going on up there last night.   ;D )
--GIDEON
-jim rap about the hidden beauty of detroit, ice skating at christmas and whether that heartwarming crap appeals to you...  ;D  it's funny to see the band's response to jim's extemporaneous riffing.
he also commented that detroit was the home of some of the best music ever made.  patrick stood and applauded.

--golden
--librarian
--dondante--sound got CRAZY LOUD here.  :o   those green lights!  like a grotto up there.
--smokin from shootin--the build in this is such a killer!

--touch me pt. 2--DANCE IT OUT
--RUN THRU--THERE WILL BE STROBES--jim gets the crazy leg shake working...patrick doing some fun arm moves during the key breaks  ;D
as the band is walking off stage, tt leaps into the wings

----2nd set----
-before the band came back out a crew member whisked carl's pedal steel off stage which made me think there'd been a set change...
--bermuda hwy!--jim out solo acoustic
--wordless--tt and carl were busting some pretty fab dance moves here  [smiley=beer.gif]  big knee slide from jim--bo playing in all that smoke and color with his eyes closed

--highly suspicious--carl's solo EN FUEGO!
--COBRA!--damn!--just as i was expecting the third movement to start the rocking mid section took a crazy drum turn!  YOW! sooooo much fun!
--anytime--tt on his toes for parts of this!
--obh--ALL THE LEATHER KIDS WERE LOOOOOOOOUUUUUD!

-noticed that jim's fat black electric guitar is sporting a couple of gold EU owls at the base of the strings. has the foam lobster been retired?  again, i point out that part of my occupation is observing details, if only to comfort myself that noticing these details is not all that odd.   ;)
-reiteration:  carl's black and gold dan electro is fucking gorgeous.

(sign of the season:  it's not yet 7pm but almost dark.  it's too chilly to sit out on this patio any longer.  gonna pick up some tacos, head home, and finish this write up from there.  lord, what a wind bag.   ::) )

Hey! I was directly to your left the entire show. Sorry about bumping into you so much again, haha. But I couldn't believe it when that guy handed you the signed poster, I can't believe how you must have felt.

Also, I didn't hear a single thing about that whole livenation/ticketmaster ordeal. I wanted to be at the venue waiting around 3 or 4, but my friends said it wouldn't be that bad. Of course I was sad when I got a call from a friend that had been waiting there since two saying there were 150 people or so. We got there though and apparently we had 'special' tickets that let us get in early. I was excited but I felt terrible.

Also, suzanne, would you happen to be 'Zanne' from the Pearl Jam message board?

I just reread yvon's post. I had to work the day the tickets went on sale and had a friend buy mine for me. Apparently he bought the tickets through ticketmaster but they never came in the mail. He called ahead of time and they said to just have the confirmation number and his ID and we could pick them up at will call. We ended up getting livenation tickets, where, as noted, let us stand in a line with not many people at all.

hey ms yvon, I was the guy from toledo who stood inline with you the whole time, I was with my girlfriend.  Its so cool to see people on here that I saw at the show.  I haven't been posting on her as much as I like, but I've been lurking.  I figured I'd run into you on here steven.  I didn't even notice you jump into me or anything once and if you did it clearly didn't bother me the slightest.  There was one woman who got behind me after the encore and she was giving me a back rub or something, but it wasn't bothering me haha.  The show was awesome, I hope to see you guys again at shows in the future.  Maybe even you ms_yvon lol, don't run into many LA people at shows.  We both are going to keep those rampant badassery stickers as concert memories.  I'll be at many more MMJ shows.  Everything went perfect last night.  My girlfriend was excited about touching jim's hair and guitar and arm, which she whiped his arm sweat on my shirt.  I don't think I really desired to have Jim's arm sweat on my shirt, but after I got that poster, I didn't care about anything!  I have very good photos, but they get uploaded huge, so I am trying to get photoshop so I can post them.

A few more random thoughts on the show.

When we were in line, a guy stopped and played classic rock covers for us for an hour and we sang along loudly.  It made the time go by quite quickly.

The little special line for Live Nation fiasco was bullshit.  I'll leave it at that.

Despite the doors opening at 7, they didn't come onstage until after 8:30.

Jim was rocking the shit out of that acoustic on Golden.

Dondante jam, wow!  Same goes for Cobra!

It was a truly rocking show.  I was glad that at no point did Jim call it "Detroit Rock City".  I'm so sick of hearing that.

Afterwards my friend said that I completely freaked out during Cobra.  I don't recall completely freaking out, but I was beyond ecstatic at that point.

Ms. Yvon got a setlist and on it, it had Look At You and Just One Thing instead of Bermuda Highway.

My throat hurts and my voice is gone today.   :)

I'm still not sure how this show compared to Nashville.  In many ways they were very different.  I went with different people.  Detroit was indoors.  I thought the band sounded much tighter last night.  I didn't feel like most of the crowd in Detroit was there because it was simply something to do, people were there because they wanted to see the show.  No fireworks in Detroit but the light show came across much better.  I think I liked the setlist better in Nashville.  There was only 5 songs last night that they didn't play in Nashville.  Had I not been to that show, I think this show would have seemed even more amazing.

My favorite thing about going to see My Morning Jacket is that when I'm watching them, I feel like I witnessing something really special.

The Jacket bears! Look at them, hard at work!

It cracked me up to see them the day after the show, especially since Jim mentioned Christmastime. Feel the spirit!

Those bears rock.

I said this already, but most of us in that line had no idea that that was happening, and I didn't pay a dime extra than anyone else. I do agree it was kind of shitty though and I keep feeling like I have to apologize. I really did feel bad when they let us in and we got booed.

yep, yep, yep.
james, it was great to see you again after the show!  glad you all made it home safe.

today at the hairport, my friend told me he'd been thinking about the show and that it seemed like a dream.  "all the smoke..."
he also was a little uncomfortable being so close to the stage.
also:  he'd been only familiar with the more acoustic material (we camp a lot together, so i usually bring the less raucous music on those trips), so he was bowled over by the huge songs.

must be said:  after a song or two:  THE CROWD REALLY STEPPED UP!  all night long i could hear voices from all over the room singing along!  sounded terrific!

it made me sad that you all got booed.  please, don't feel the need to apologize.  none of you did anything shitty, it's the livenation vs. ticketmaster breakup that is the lame bit.  as livenation and ticketmaster are splitting, livenation is doing what they can to make sure you buy tix from them, not their competitor.

fucking clear channel.

at some "verizon theatres" they offer early entry to people with verizon phones.  it's the drive of corporations/promoters/venues to create some kind of sense of "vip-ness" that bums me out.  the livenation-fillmore thing was just the latest experience i've had with this type of thing.

anyway.  all the shenanigans aside:  hope you had a rollicking good time!

I think we can both agree its bullshit that the two companies do shit like that. I'm just glad we were able to hold spots off long enough for my friends to get up with us.

But I had a fucking amazing time! Wish I could relive it so much.

Thank the goddess for Ms. Yvon and her spontaneous decisions.

Great posts, all!!!

Chicago is too soon, and I pray I can get de-stressed and get all my work done in time for my birthday party with the Jacket.

I had such a great time rockin out in detroit with all you wonderful people (even though I didn't get to meet any of you, it's hard not to feel like you've connected with everyone at a MMJ show).  I was one of the bunch of people wearing wigs who were in front of Jim.  If I remember correctly, we sang happy birthday to some guy named Steve before the show as well.

honestly this is the first time I've gone to a show and met people who were on the forum of the band, then again I am only on this one, the Kings of Leon forum and a few others that aren't so frequent.  I will be on this forum much more now.  Its so cool to see you guys on here.  I hope that we run into each other again.  This feels like a big family!  :)

Yo, That was sweet show.  I drove all the way from Pittsburgh, PA to see them. Made a weekend out of it.  I remember most of you being there.  I got one of the set lists which was nice...did anyone else meet them after the show?  I got them to sign the list and got some sweet pictures too....one with Jim is the best.  Those guys are SO nice, really cool to there fans and willing to BS for a bit.  I can not wait to see them again!!!

Hope everyone had a kick ass time.

Don't know if this was posted but does anyone remember the guy Carl( not from MMJ) playing for several of us in line? He was doing some good covers haha.

I've looked into the Live Nation thing, and sure enough, for shows at the-venue-formerly-known-as-the-State-Theatre, you can buy tickets specifically for the fast line.  I'm so glad that The Roots/Gym Class Heroes show got cancelled and now The Roots are playing at St. Andrews because I have no desire to return there.

My favorite thing about going to see My Morning Jacket is that when I'm watching them, I feel like I witnessing something really special.

That is how I truly feel too! Most of the people I work with and family and such, have no idea who the band is, and it's almost like my little secret. So I get so crazy excited to see them live and it is so very special to me.

In reading some of the other posts, I was behind you guys (getinthevan & Ms. Yvon), I was just down the row from the guy playing his "rendition" of Bon Jovi songs  :) Bummer I didn't get a chance to met you.

I was right in front of Carl as well, and damn can he play. You're right, Ms. Yvon, that dan electro IS gorgeous. He was definitely EN FUEGO on Saturday.

The show was so incredible. I probably sound like a broken record, but hey, I can't say enough about the show, the excellent fans, and having the chance to meet the guys after the show. That was a real thrill!

Cheers!

so this is my first time writing on the forum, i usually just like to read about the shows, but now that MMJ has popped my cherry i feel that i have some substance to add.

First of all, i was one of the kids playing hacki sak, specifically, the asian one. I was with a group of three guys. i believe that we were the first ones there at 2:20. not that it really matters because of Live Nation, and we still got great spots on the floor. So maybe some of you can remember those one kids that hacked for 4 hours. haha. ms_yvon was really nice. thanks a bunch for the stickers....they're badass. I know my friends and i liked talking to you to pass the time. So thanks for being cool.  :)

So i'll start from begining. We arrived around 2:20 and while passing the Fillmore we saw a tour bus. Well, we all kind of jokingly said that it was MMJ's bus,  but then we saw a group of men walk out of the bus. a group of men that mysteriously were shaped like the demi-gods themselves. The first person we saw ended up being Carl! At that point i yelled "Holy Shit," but i don't think anyone noticed because they were trying to figure out what they were actually seeing. We drove by and i pressed my face up against the window, trying to wave to Carl...he didn't noticed. I frantically tried to make my way out of the car, but the doors were locked and i couldn't figure out how to unlock them. (It was a new car) And we were going a good 25 mph, but i was willing to roll out, be it with my health or not. The band ended up getting into a red Toyota Sienna. We turned around, parked and jumped out of the car, still hoping to catch a glimpse. As they drove off, a friend and I flashed our Jacket merch and jim, riding shotgun, waved and smiled at us, as did the rest of the group. We were still shaking an hour later, though still sad that we didn't meet them at such a perfect chance.

we stood in line for the rest of the time. Everyone was really cool, although i only think i caught Ms. Yvon's name. We talked to another fan in line about Rothury, he was the black guy smoking the Camel Crushes.

The show was amazing. Amazing. Amazing. Fucking Amazing. The english language has not created a strong enough adjective to describe the ecstatic, euphoric, eclectic music of My Morning Jacket. The live show in Detroit was the single greatest experience of my life and when i went to school on Monday i felt like crying because i wasn't there anymore. Everything about the show was great. The people, the strobes, Jim's fucking sweaty arms (touched by me) his voice, Pat's wide open mouth, Carl rippin it up, TT being cool as shit and Bo being just as cool, smiling with TT. Overall, a very surreal experience. I could write a novel on everything that i was feeling during that concert.

After the concert, the gang went to the side of the Fillmore and waited with our event posters to see if anyone was out for signatures. Soon, Bo came out and signed out posters we expressed our love and i shook his hand, which started a chain reaction of hand shaking. Bo was really cool and talked to everyone. He said that the rest of the guys would be out whenever they got down showering. Next to come out was Two-Tone who signed out posters and dished out handshakes. I don't think anyone could really think of what to say, it was all very unreal, but the handshakes established them as human beings. They were real, in the sense that they were made from the same stuff that i am made of, which, to me, is hard to fathom. Next was Pat. I immediately thought of a grizzly bear when i saw him and all of his hairy glory. Next, was Mr. James himself. We got his signature and we were all in awe. The only thing that i could think to do was to ask for a hug. So i did. He chuckled and said, "Yea, sure man." So I fucking hugged Jim James! It was another great experience and a great end to an amazing night. Later, Carl came out and finished off the signature collection. Another shake of the hand was given and we left there soon after.

So to sum everything up...the show was great. too great for words. All the fans were great. and all the members of My Morning Jacket were real people. They had angelic souls, and they all expressed their gratitude for the fans. WOW. All three of us got signed posters with squirrels! and we all went to bed dreaming of no time better than an evening with My Morning Jacket.

I remember you...You were to the left of my girlfriend in the front row. I was the one with the set list after the show getting it signed by the band.  The band was just so nice to everyone....ahhh wish we all could re-live saturday!!!

I asked Bo if they got to see some of what Detroit had to offer and he said they went to the Motown Museum between 2pm and 4pm. So that's probably why you saw them leaving.  We also were going to go to the Museum too but changed are minds....might have met them there too!!

glad you had a good time, man.

sweet dude.

I cant wait for this tape.  I yelled snowy bramble twice really loud.  and the end of One Big Holiday Carl was rocking hard and I was pretty centered with where he was jamming.  he looked up mid jam and I pointed with both hands at him kind of like "you're a bad ass", making up for this one time I really hurt his feels, but that's a different show so forget that.  but we made eye contact and then rocked out.  so I take complete credit for One Big Holiday and Dondante ripping, it's my fault.  the tape with prove it.  the tapers probably pissed because of all the whispers.

"blunt smoke"..."blunt smoke"..."blunt smoke"... clouding his mic with chronic resination. shit that show was slammin'.  Iowa wtf is there problem.  as of now it's Iowa's fault Jim got hurt, so there for fuck you Iowa, Detroit would rock your face off.

not sure about who or when.  but I have heard two audio tapers and one video.  but nobody on here has claimed taping it that I've seen.  apparently it will be up on archive someday but I have no idea when.  this show needs to be released like a bitch but everyone's giving me the 2 weeks run around bullshit.   so we wait, perhaps forever.

Seriously...that Run Thru video almost made me jump out of my skin. It's better than the Okonokos video...words just can not describe the awesome.

I've been on the lookout for this recording, but I haven't found anything yet. I would say keep checking dimeadozen or bt.etree.org.

Great show though!

Gotta bump this up.

Anyone see the bootleg of this show around?  I can't find it, and I doubt it's out there...yet.

Does anyone know where the poster is for sale at? it's not in the store section of the mmj site yet!!
