you guys are all so great - hours of smiles and laughter - it would be good to have a preshow meetup on nye - assuming it happens. see how many towns/ countries/worlds/genders/benders we represent. anyone interested ?
people have already talked about a meetup somewhere---or possibly a couple different meetups (depending on whether you're going to that pre=party that comes w/the package?) as the show gets closer, it'll be posted so definitely stay tuned :D
thx. will keep looking.

I think she was referring to the "Consider it Dan" package. There's a stickied thread about it at the top of the "shows" forum (this forum).
I'll be at that pre-party for sure--look for the girl with the permi-grin from ear to ear. . . well, I'll be one of them, at least : )
I've been wondering this myself....I'm looking to hit some pre-party action with some friends. Keep us updated!
Hi Everyone! Let me introduce myself. My name is Jay and I am the administrator of Inforoo.com (The Unofficial Bonnaroo Message Board) On NYE, there will be a pre-MMJ party just outside Manhattan (3 stops into Queens by subway if you were wondering) in Astoria, Queens.
The party will take place from 4pm-7pm and will have open bar and buffet for the duration of the party. For your rockin pleasure, there will be Rock Band and Guitar Hero as well. The admission to get in will be $50 a head, which by NYE standards it is a steal.
If you are interested or have any further questions then PM me or you may contact me by e-mail: deegan78@yahoo.com. I want to thank CC Baxter for allowing me to post this on the message board. I hope to see some of you guys and gals on NYE.
-Jay
I was not allowed to post a link on my first post, so here is the link of the place the party will be @:

Hey! Are you the only one on here that is from Inforoo? I figured I would ask some of the gang over here if they want in on the party since we will be going to the same destination later that eve.

Nope--Idioteque is over here, as well as sassbox, and I'm pretty sure I saw at least one other familiar name. . .
Cannot wait for NYE.
sunswick! sweet. one of my favorite local hangs. hopefully i get out of work early enough to hit this up.
would be easier to just pick some kind of a dive bar close to MSG and just have a central meet up there? The swankier places will have covers and probably you won't be able to just get in and out. There are a couple close to there so let me know if this is an okay idea and sean, maybe bluesky and i and a few others in NYC will find a place? we can call ahead to these places and just make sure we can get in from 4-7ish...just an idea.
I know that for many of us making it into the city, getting back on the subway and going out to Queens is not an option especially risking the trains/crowds getting back into the city.

a small handful of people have had concerns about getting back in time, but that shouldn't be an issue since there is a 2 hour window and the trains weren't too crowded at that time last year. I know this because I work a couple blocks over from the place. Also, the party does run for 3 hours, so people want to leave around 6- 6:30 and still feel they got their money worth.

I am with you Penny....and I have an affection for dive bars. Especially in Manhattan. Keep me posted on close-to-MSG ideas. I fly in early on the 31st and am going to Brooklyn to nap and eat. Once 4-ish rolls around, I want to head to the Manhattan (and not pay a NYE cover), not Queens.

wizz-that sounds like a good plan! i'm taking off work that day so i'll be coming into the city around 4 or 5 i hope too--there is a dive bar called blarney rock across the street that i've been too many times that might work. i'll check w/sean and keep looking.

My friends that are going and I will be in on this plan. I'm all about convience..the closer to MSG the better...and the more the Dive bar the better for me...I'll be in the city around 3pm and be ready to go.
I'm down for the pre-nye meet up some place close to msg. I'll be with 3 friends, and ready to party. A dive bar sounds like a fine place to me. Can't wait to see you all there.
haldon
I cannot remember the place as it's been about 4 years since I've been to NYC. Last time I was in NYC I was seeing a couple shows at the Hammerstein Ballroom, which is right by MSG. We found a really fun Irish Pub that (from my memory) is a few blocks northeast of MSG. I cannot remember the name though, but it was basically a couple blocks due east of the Hammerstein. We'll probably try and find that place again.

the bars i'm talking about are about a block up and east on 34th or 33rd--might be the same ones. 3 in a row, 2 are irish i think-
I'm obviously all about whatever Penny & Sean come up with. Def not down with cruising into Queens. :-/
The more divey and the more Irish the more I want to be there RIGHT NOW. Reenie, you with me? :D ;D
hey...have been out of the loop. I'm up for anything penny's about...a dive up the road and meeting early. I'm heading back to Michigan for xmas and will be back on the 29th....would like to have plans as sorted as possible before hand. maybe we should pick a post show place too? or just a street corner to meet up on after.... ::)
I was finally able to sign off on the contract this weekend and here is the scoop. Apparently, they are not giving us three hours, but FOUR HOURS between 3-7 The price of admission is still $50 a person (it would come to $12.50 per hour) and it includes the following:
-Open bar for 4 hours which includes all beers on tap (25 beers on tap to be exact), 12 oz bottles, all well drinks, and first tier liquors. No cognacs and high end tequilas will be served.
-Buffet will be open for four hours and will include Penne a La Vodka, Buffalo Wings, Quesadillas, Mozzarella Sticks, Chicken Fingers, Jalapeno Poppers, and salad.
-Rockband and Guitar Hero will be available for your rockin pleasure on a big screen during the duration of the party.
You must be 21+ to enter and they will card at the door.
The place is called Sunswick and is located at 35-02-25th St in Astoria Queens. In case you are lost , their phone number is 718-752-0602. The train ride is about 15 min and you can catch the R train to Steinway or the N or W to 36th Ave.
Payments will be made in advance and the deadline is the 22nd of December (a Monday) I will be taking payments by paypal or by check if you don't have a paypal account set up. PM me if you wish to go and I shall send you my paypal account or mailing address. If you are a little strapped for the cash and would like to attend, please feel free to PM me and I will try to work out something.
I hope I have covered everything. If there are any questions you guys (and gals) know where to find me.
DirtyJerzee--you rock for setting that up!!!
Hey..I tried :-)
We can all bring our own alcohol and party in the back of my car... ::)
We could all go to the pants party. I love lamp.
Brick killed a guy!
There is a bar Inside of MSG that some of us met at in 2005, why not just do that?? or do the doors not open early enough?
bump...
The Blarney about a block away closed :( but maybe it's not the same one that you are thinking of...
I also in the neighborhood, but not too divey is The Ginger Man. If you're looking for good beer, this might be a good option. It's at 11 East 36th St.
http://www.gingerman-ny.com/
There should be a good divey option for those looking for PBR ;) ...I'll check and post it here when I find it. :)
hmmm that's strange i think i walked by last week and it was still there--i know there is the blarney rock and the blarney stone (lol) they are both in that area. the one i'm thinking of is right next to old navy/across from manhattan mall, a block down from Macys? i think that one is blarney rock and it's right next to Stout, another option because of it's sheer size.
i'm up for wherever. I don't think bars will be packed at this time, which will be good :-)
i'd be up for gingerman, also
haven't read through all the various threads, but just wondering....
is there a sort of definitive plan, where the bulk of members will be meeting up pre-show? or are we still trying to work that out?

i think we're still trying to work that out but stay tuned--it will probably be some dive bar w/in a couple blocks of MSG which will be convenient for everyone :-)
There are at least 10 of us meeting up at the Sunswick in Queens. I'm told it's about a 15 minute train to MSG from there.
$50 for 4 hours of open bar, people!

hey NoVa! i just called and talked to the MGR at this Ginger Man and she's going to call me back next week. i looked up some reviews (one specifically said they had The Last Waltz on the jukebox) and it seemed like it was big enough and it has a back room we can reserve. I'm trying to get them to do a 4-7 or 5-8 drink special. I told them even if they were doing a NYE thing already, we'd all pretty much be leaving for MSG by 7:30/8. I'll keep you posted because this looks huge and they have over 60 beers on tap.

Me, Red Velvet & Co. will be at the $50 (!!!) four-hour open bar organized by the Phenomenal Dirty Jerzee of Bonnaroo Board (and other) fame. I figure if we leave by 6 pm, there'll be no problem getting back in to the city in plenty of time.
I think I might stay at the Sunswick until the last dog is hung...no point in getting to the venue early. None of us are going to be on the rail unless we eschew pre-partying completely, and where's the fun in that?
Oh yeah, I'm just planning on the trains being crowded with peeps headed in to Times Square, so erring on the side of caution.
What do you think the chances are that I can sneak in to GA from my floor seats at some point in the evening?
I think the chances of
a) Times Square (and everything else within a 15-block radius) being a complete cluster and
b) you sneaking into GA
are both at about 100% ;)

yeah i was going to head from Hoboken between 3-4, that way we're there and we can get a few drinks in and leave and still get up front for GA. i'm all about being fashionably EARLY for the Pitt :-) this way, we're about 2 blocks away.

The trains going into manhattan won't be that bad from what I saw last new years. We have two lsubway lines to pick from, so it won't be too bad getting back in. Where the place is in Queens is just on the outskirts of Manhattan if anyone is wondering.

Just giving some heads up, for those of you that are thinking of going, you have until Dec 22nd to make the payment, which is in 2 weeks :-) You can pay by money order, paypal, or check. If you have any issues concerning payments just PM me and we shall work them out.

Last Waltz on the juke and 60+ beers on tap. sounds like heaven to me. and then I can leave heaven and see MMJ at the garden? :o :o
I just talked to the MGR at Ginger Man and she gave me the low down-
1. We can all just plan to meet up there (I just need to call her and let her know if there are a bunch of us so she can make sure there are enough staff) or we can try to reserve the backroom (which is huge).
2. However, in order to reserve the backroom, we need to guarantee the 50 people spend at least $20/person -1000 total (which i don't think it will be a problem but my concern is it's not each person paying, they total it on one bill and then let us know when we've hit it--and then we figure out how we're paying) this is pretty standard for NY bars (especially on NYE)--i don't think we should bother reserving this but if 20/30 of you want to do this, i'm up for it.
**she said she has had other people calling about going there before the MMJ show which is good--so my take is that we all just plan to meet there and get our own drinks---if no one reserves the backroom (which i am suspecting no one won't at this late point) we can just use the backroom anyway.** i suspect we'll fill up the whole place.
She said their open bar special doesn't start until 8, which i think will probably apply to most of the bars.
I think that we should all just plan to meet up there--it's a huge place, lots of beer on tap and it's a block or so over from the venue.
thoughts?? ;)
sounds great. i'll definitely swing by.
i would also vote for not reserving anything, as any number of problems can arise, particularly with money/payment type issues, but that's just my opinion.

Sounds like a great plan -- flexible enough for a crazy evening. They needn't worry about a bunch of crazed MMJ fans racking up a 1k bar tab either!
I'll definitely go. I won't put myself on the roll call until my ticket arrives next week. Also, I met you this summer at the Philly show. Hey!

I'm a big fan of the Gingerman in Austin, TX. I'm down for Gingerman pre-game.
