I saw that in one of the other threads someone had posted pictures of posters for some of the upcoming shows. For those of you that have already been to the US shows this tour, are they releasing special posters for each show?
If they are, what do they look like, any pictures?
If not, are there any posters that they are selling?
i'm looking to add to my poster collection, so any inside info is helpful. Thanks alot!

The Philly and DC posters are too fucking awesome!!! The blue Nashville poester is the tits! I wish I could get my hands on that one. :-/
No ATL or Myrtle Beach poster? :( :(
QuoteNo ATL or Myrtle Beach poster? :( :(
There will be a poster for Atlanta... and I
think the Florida shows are covered, too.
yeah, that DC poster's the Naz...
was there a council bluffs poster?
Ok just to clarify....
Posters are $30
and you get a wristband to receive them after the show?
For the last four shows (Nashville, Louisville, Red Rocks and Dallas), you bought the poster and received a wristband which was used to pick up your poster after the show. I'm guessing they'll be doing that for the remainder of the tour. Genius.
They did the whole wristband thing on the pearl jam tour this year....it was excellent...you were only allowed to buy one (which meant no one was buying boat loads and ruining it for people who came afterwards) and, you since you didn't pick it up until after the show you didn't have to worry about the poster getting damages while you were watching the show....oh so nice
i really hope that they have posters for the so. beach show....i just framed and matted my RCMH poster and it looks fan-f'in-tastic....i'm hoping to post some pictures soon to share

ya, my guess is that Riny just hasn't updated the site yet? Because I've been stalking Guy's website lately waiting for a pic of the Portland Edgefield poster and that RCMH message wasn't there even this morning I don't think...
ok thanks Vespa... someone just said you could already buy one on the merch site but no go. I wasnt' at the show but still want one of those rad posters!
sorry, don't know a thing about it.
There's a whole different category in the Merch section called--
"2008 Tour Posters"
The RCMH poster is available in there. I'm glad some people that didn't get one will get a chance to, but it kind of bums me out when people sell something in a "limited run, signed and numbered" and then they just make more. Kind of goes against the whole point of them being special. :-/
I guarantee you somebody is going to buy ten of them and then try to sell them on eBay for $100.
is the miami poster online anywhere?
love the austin poster and it was 25 bones. the one at acl last night is also cool and was only 20.
I see the category "2008 US summer tour posters" in the merch/store section and see the RCMH poster, too.
I can not buy it ("not enough inventory").
Does that mean that this poster was available and is sold out,
OR
does the sale of the RCMH poster start later on???
so some dooshbag sent Mr. Burwell this email in regards to there being a 2nd edition of the Radio City poster. some idiots never learn to shut their fugging mouths (or lay off the keyboard). Corey, if you're out there... ..l..
"From Corey G: cherokeemist88@.....
Thank you for making the decision for me to not collect anymore of your posters. I just can't see how you can justify making a 2nd edition. You flat out lied to your fan base. You told them it was a limited edition, which it is not. Having something that is limited and knowing not alot of others have it and it will not be reproduced makes it all the more special. Yes the image matters, but to me that limited aspect of it is right up there and is part of what makes collecting fun. If we knew every artist was going to make a second edition, you wouldn't get to have that rush of being one of the few to get one. Or the thrill of hunting down a piece for a long time than finally scoring it. Thank you for making collecting not fun anymore. Was the extra money really worth lying to your fan base over?"

it's all right there, including an explanation by Guy about the 2nd edition. not that he ever needed to give one, but yanno people suck. next time anyone thinks about ripping into artist, remove head from ass and think about what you're doing first. Guy is one of the coolest, nicest people i've come across in the realm of gig posters. that sentiment would be echoed by many others, that i promise you. i'm guessing Corey G bought one off ebay for lots of $$$ and got pissed they were made available again for original price. boo-hoo, ya donkey.
wow, that sucks...
I tried all yesterday to get one and even called... every time I put it in my cart it said it wasn't available but folks on that forum were buying them today... I kinda hate how that part went down.

I hate to say that emails like this are not out of the ordinary. I have received a few hostile emails from people regarding the posters I did for DC and Philly.
From a designers stand point we are caught in an awkward position as there are some people that did not get a poster and some people who want them all to themselves. A second edition poster is pretty common, it allows people to not have to go crazy trying to find an original (in theory) but keeps the first edition still special. I have seen Guy's poster on eBay going for a lot of money and you know what, Guy is not seeing any of it. The only people that this angers are the poster "flippers" not the people that actually like the band and/or design.
On that note, most MMJ fans that have emailed me have been peaches to talk to and I look forward to getting my posters out there. Guy and Status Serigraph are good people and great designers!

Guy is the bee's knees. Never met him, but I got my poster from my very first show (Portland, OR Aladdin Theater) for FREE. Straight up, just given to me while I waited for the show to start. And I know that Vespachick also got a kick-down poster at the Crystal Ballroom show. I love his work and I hope he takes all this with a grain of salt.
And...poster collecting is over-rated. We have a whole closet full of valuable posters that we cannot even find place for on our walls (lots of limited edition Phish prints and few MMJ that we have not had the money to frame). Guess what? Out of all our tour posters, spanning the years, all but one represents a show either me or my husband attended. And no matter how valuable they get on the ebay market, we will never sell them. So now, they sit in our closet :-/
That is not to say that I won't be getting Guy's poster for the Edgefield....because all of my MMJ posters (minus the Fillmore give-away from NYE) are made by Guy. Long live Guy!
just bought the council bluffs poster.
Thanks for the link guys!

more than likely if you cant get it on the webstore, you can get it from the artist themselves. Besides Guy's, cuz his stuff sells like wildfire! I know myself, El Jefe, Brad, Eye Noise, and Furturtle all have our posters up for sale. Everyone that did posters that sold at the shows should at some point show up on the site. -J

The baseball card poster was a promoter poster, and was not sold at the show. Try contacting the artist (Matt Luenig) directly.

Well I fancy myself a bit of a poster geek! In the past few years I've been doing all of my own framing and it's so much cheaper than taking it to a framer. I use www.americanframe.com, you can upload the image of the poster to the site and play around with frame and matte choices and see what looks good. Let me know if you have any questions, more than willing to try and help you out. Easily half the price (usually more) than having it framed professionally.

what is is costing you guys to frame these things? I have several posters collected sitting in tubes including the Boston from this yr. Anyone have a good recommedation for online supplies or do you do it done professionally?
ctdeadhead, to answer your question about price, for a standard size poster, add a matte or two, framed by a reputable framer would run you somewhere in the ballpark of $200ish, often more depending on frame choice. I do most of my framing myself, here's a response I posted a few pages back in this thread that may be of help. If you have any questions send me a message and I'll try to help you out.
QuoteQuoteWhy do the artists do these posters in such weird sizes? I want to frame my poster and it's going to cost a lot to get a custom frame. Anyone have any thoughts or recommendations on framing? I've got the Milwaukee poster.
Easily half the price (usually more) than having it framed professionally.
although I do most framing myself, I'll still take high value stuff (and things that I just want to look perfect) to my framer. This one is going to the framers today, Gold Variant (only 8 made) of Marq Spusta's L.A. MMJ poster

That is a GORGEOUS poster.
Those of you in the Chicago area, Artist's Frame Service has a "Just Frame A Poster" deal that starts at $79. They really know what they're doing and will treat your posters like Rembrandts. I think I upgraded to UV glass and added spacers and a few other archival type things and it only topped out around $100.
holy shit, look at that poster!
100 dollars just to frame a poster!

$100 is not a bad price for a custom frame. I plan on doing it for the one I pick up on NYE.
i would really appreciate it if someone could help me get a rcmh poster.

I would trade my copy for a NYE GA floor ticket.
PLease help... I am wanting to get a concert poster from the Dallas show in 2006 on the 17 of Nov. I cant find it for sale on the internet anywhere, and I contacted the designer, who said he only does one printing. Does anyone have an extra they are willing to sell???
just got this back from the framers....I think it's a keeper.

Beautiful, Walter!
That's gorgeous.
The frame complements it beautifully. Nice choices!
That is beautiful.
Where will you hang it?
Just put my Marq Spusta poster into the framers and it had one of his famous doodles on it. Doodle is of an owl. Anyone got any information regarding the New Years Eve poster. I know that it is going to be a Guy Burwell creation but any idea about the theme of it or even what it looks like?
Yea, I'm waiting on NYE poster info too. It's going to be a major pain the ass to haul a poster around all night on New Years, even if they do the wrist band thing and we can pick it up after the show. If it is a Burwell though, I guess I'll try and get it to go along with my Radio City poster, which I already have framed on the wall and which looks great. I love Burwell's stuff.
We know for certain that it's going to be a Burwell? That's good news.
It's a formidable task to carry around a poster on NYE without it getting completely demolished! I suggest bringing a vinyl poster tube. That'll keep it dry and somewhat rigid, at least.
Got my RCMH poster back from the framers a couple of weeks ago. When the light hits the poster you kind of discover more intricate work done on the poster. It is one awesome poster. The only poster that I truly like of Guy's work is the RCMH poster. He must be planning something pretty special for the New Year Eve poster.

I don't think anybody actually knows for sure that it's Burwell, but I think most people suspect it will be him, given that he tends to do the art for most of MMJ's big name events.
it is definitely Burwell.
Quoteit is definitely Burwell.
nice. i think he usually posts images on his website when he's done. can't wait to see what he cooks up.
Any idea on who is doing the posters for the chicago shows ?

Normally you can see the image some days BEFORE the show.
RCMH poster was up on Guy's homepage one week before the show in NY.

If I had to hazard a guess (or a wistful hope), I'd say Jay Ryan. Maybe Dan Grzeca?
Just got my Berkeley poster home from the framer today and it is already rockin' in the bedroom. Yowza!
Guy Burwell has posted the poster for NYE on his website.

And its beautiful- his work is really incredible
Wow. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to pick one of those up and lug it around all night.
Looks great.....Feels kind of Zeppelin-ish, wouldn't you say?

I love it. Will they only have one poster?

I'm probably going to take a poster tube with me. And if I could find one of those can thingys I'm gonna put the tube in that and just sling it around my back.
Do you think they'll let you in with a cardboard poster tube? I'm gonna bring a plastic-bag-type one just in case.
[whispers]I'm not sure if I like the NYE poster[/whispers]

Well if I show them that it's empty and tell them what it's for, I hope they do.
I hope so too. Good luck!
Hopefully they'll give us wristbands when we purchase the poster so when can pick it up after the show.

I hope this isn't inappropriate, but if any of you who purchased the "Dan" package is interested in selling one of the two posters you are getting, this huge fan (11 shows in 9 months!) would appreciate a PM. Thanks in advance...and I'll delete this post if anyone objects. :)
i like that poster!!! its annoying its such a limited run of prints...
