Black Keys guitarist and vocalist Dan Auerbach has recently released a killer solo disc, Keep It Hid, and he's just days away from embarking on a 10-city solo tour!
Backing Auerbach during his sets is the awesome Texas band Hacienda (who will also open the shows), who we introduced you to a few months ago.
The bummer is that, due to a death in his family, drummer Bob Cesare won't be making the trek with Auerbach. In his place, though, will be My Morning Jacket monster Patrick Hallahan. (The last time we saw Patrick he was ecstatically spinning around in circles at the Silent Disco at Bonnaroo, but we're sure he's recovered from that!)

Nice! (Damn, no STL date...)
Nice little surprise :) I was supposed to see Franti tomorrow nite in Baltimore, but given how much closer the 9:30 Club is...I may have to change my plans.
I guess that pretty much guarantees no MMJ shows thru the middle of March. ;D
I wouldn't be at all shocked if Jim was in the house on March 3rd.
I think I might have to go to DC tomorrow night.
Hell yes. I just picked up an extra ticket for the Chicago date for my friend last night. I was excited for it anyway, but now I'm ecstatic! Do you think he's in for the SXSW date, too?
Thanks for posting, Nova! :)

Just getting in from night 1 of this tour. :) Now, I am a Black Keys fan, so your mileage may vary, but if you can, go see this show. I haven't gotten out too much so far in '09, but tonight's show is definitely the best that I've heard so far. And, that's with the myriad of sounds issues that they had tonight.
Great show. A little short, I thought, but I tend to be greedy. There's something about Dan Auerbach's voice...man, it's just sooo right for what he's doing. The backing band was great as well. Their set was good, but also suffered with sound issues which to my ear threw off all of the harmonies. All in all, still a great show.
P.S. Patrick played the largest triangle that I've ever seen! :o :)

I got in near the end of the Darlins' set. They weren't my cup of tea, so I didn't stick around.
Hacienda was good...very entertaining. Beatle-y style songs--sort of if the Beatles had dabbled a little in punk rock is what I kept thinking. The bass player was excellent! A couple of their tunes sounded really familair. One was a revamped "Hey Good Lookin' Whatcha Got Cookin'" and I forget what the other one sounded like.
The sound was a problem. They started the set with no sound coming from the vocal mics. It took almost half of the 1st tune to get everyone's mics working and I don't think they ever got the mix right. The harmonies at some spots were just painful. I couldn't help but think that the guitar player couldn't sing, until....
He came back out with Hacienda and Dan Auerbach + Patrick. Totally different. The guy can sing. The sound/audio for Hacienda's set was just plain bad. The sound guy kept throwing his arms up in that tale-tell "I give up motion".
I would definitely check them out again and will probably get their CD as well.

Does Patrick play with Hacienda during their opening set or does he just play with them when Dan plays?

Awesome!!^^^^^
Thanks.
ALady and I were fortunate enough to catch three sets of Dan Auerbach at SXSW last week, meaning three Patrick sightings in four days!
The first set was at The Parish on opening night of SXSW Music...GREAT show. The second night was at a random hippie house out in the woods, where the band showed up three sheets to the wind at 3 am and played for an hour and a half. The third set was the following afternoon at Mean Eyed Cat, where they showed up looking a little *ahem* rough but still managed to pull off a high energy set. Here are some pics, including two of our friends playing Patrick's maracas on night two:

As I told ALady on another thread: my jealousy is overflowing. I am mad in love with that album and am pissed I haven't caught one of his shows yet.
You lucky, lucky ladies.
