The rud confirmed that Jim is playing but had no info as of yet on advance ticket sales. The organizer is out of town with his cell phone off, apparently. They said they don't think they'll sell out, tho.  ;D ;D Yeah, right!

Ok looks like its first come first serve, heres an email someone from the rudyard kipling sent me.

Reservations are not being made for any of the MotherLodge Festival shows; everything is first come, first serve.  The capacity of The Rudyard is a little over a hundred, and festivities begin with a buffet by and for The Salvation Army at 7:00.  All we can suggest is to come at 6:30, pay the $20, eat the buffet,  and hang out the rest of the evening (good music throughout);  they have a $15 admission if one is not going to eat the buffet, but I doubt that means one could come at 7:30 or so and stil
l get a seat.  Thanks, Sheila at The Rud

I just requested my personal day on Thursday just to make sure I get down there with plenty of time to spare and hopefully get some choice seats.  Come to the front of the line and say hi.

I got confirmation from the Rud. I bet you'll be good at 5 but you'll be pushing it at 6.  It depends on many people catch wind of it, which likely depends on whether or not WFPK spoils the secret, as they've been known to do.

With no reservation how the heck can they give confirmation?  And if the show is announced there may be a line of multiple hundreds trying to get in.  Likely?
Maybe I should wait to buy my plane ticket? Man, I would kill to see Jim preform an hour long solo set.  or maybe I should say I would be ready to die...HA

It's the Rud so the cool kids definitely know about it.  But I agree, it could still go either way.  Most of the cool kids think it's cool to not care about MMJ.

I think they're talking about "them" trying to be cool...not us.

The question is, "Will there be 5,000 people trying to get the 100+ seats available, or will the truest of the true Jim/Jacket fans (locally) get a chance to see him?"
The answer is, "Depends on how "cool" it is [for them] to see Jim these days."

We're the fu*kin' coolest anyways...there's no trying to it!  8-)

Maybe instead of "cool kids" we should have been saying the "scenesters" or "seensters.  The ones who are more concerned with being seen at a good show than actually seeing a good show. We are hoping those "fans" stay home and that the people who actually love the music get to get in the door.

Yeah, that would be great if we could use the Buddy System.  Not the Buddy System where you tell your parents your staying at your friend's house, and he tells his parents he's staying at your house, and then you meet up and go over to your girlfriend's house (his girlfriend is there too) to hang out all night.  No, I'm talking about the Buddy System that will need to be in place for watching out for seat stealers and gangsters.  Seven hours is a long time to sit there and not be able to go out for a smoke, if you know what I'm sayin'...  8-)

Are you bringing your camera, Kory? I was thinking about bringing my 35mm and shooting some B&W.

Kory,

OK I got it to work for youtube, but it's an .flv file.  Can we deal with that?  Can I convert it?

Also, when I go to the mother lodge site, it gives me an option for an flv file as well, but when I download it, it just instantly gives me a small file and stops.  Any thoughts?

setlist:
wonderful (the way i feel)
right place - definitely a crowd pleaser
it beats for you
look at you
gideon - yim seemed to forget that he was on a small stage in front of 80 people at the end and not rocking an arena
the way that he sings
losin' yo' head
magic marker
bermuda highway
smokin' from shootin'
your master's voice

drove down from indianapolis for the show. they kept it under wraps as it never actually sold out. the long wait was well worth it. jim was dressed to the nines. he didn't hang out, just basically showed up for his set, blew us all away (especially the owner/operator of the rud who screamed at the end, "there goes jim james. gonna go jump on a plane to go save some more souls"), then went on his way. no tricks, no omnichord. just him and a guitar (that he thumped on a couple times for rhythm). just an absolute stunner of a set

What a great show! Showing up early paid off as we were in the front row. Another magical night in Louisville thanks to Jim James.

The show itself was indescribable. It's always a treat to be that close to Jim when he's doing his thing but a solo show at the Rud is just that much more special. If this was a warm up show, watch out for MoF, his voice was amazing last night

Toby and I wore our sleeping masks but didn't find a great time to really rock them out. I wish that webcast could've been recorded! I don't know what was going on in there but the dude who was recording it came running into the main hall and interrupted the auctioneer to say "who's toby? where is he?" Goose and I pointed to LoveDog and he says "the internet wants you to talk to your girlfriend".  Hilarious!  I have a feeling he's going to be hearing about that for a while.  ;D

Goose, Candace, and I won a winter CSA with local eggs, pork, cheese, honey, and other seasonal goodies in the auction, that was fun. My wife's car got towed, that kinda sucked. But it was certainly well worth it.

I told Toby being right up front for a show like this almost gives you a guilty feel like you're stealing something. Unfortunately I couldn't steal the setlist this time, Jim claimed that. The whole night was a celebration of the things that make Louisville special and it felt good to be a part of that.

Thanks, Jim!  :)

Bermuda Hwy and Losin' Yo' Head were awesome!

that was a magical show, even though i only had picture for some of it, the audio and the listening party were well worth it, some major bonding going on last night ..... as far as i know, present were myself, Ghost and Ghostess, sticky icky, BH, MJK, bluesky, the dark, wizzard, MightyCaporal, (maybe MMJ fanatic but wasn't sure), tater, KY--it was so weird, but we could see candace, aMD, goose, LD, Kory up front for some or most of the time (so it's like THEY were part of our listening party, too, even though they were part of the REAL listening party)

the moderator (Madbastard) was really awesome, too. whenever the sound went out or the screen froze, he'd rush to fix it.

**my high points of the night: bermuda highway, his master's voice, and seeing LD get interviewed by the madbastard.  ;)

Toby, where is Toby... the internet wants to speak to you!

I'll admit lyrics don't sink in a while for me, I'm caught up in melody, etc before the words actually mean something to me; that is until I see Jim sing his Master's Voice right in front row... that's one beautiful song with a beautiful story!
It was a blast hanging out with everyone!!

wow just wow.  that was one of the most beautiful hours ive ever had.  bermuda mother fucking highway into smokin for shootin.  if i had one request for last night it wouldve been bermuda hwy, just unreal.  his voice was ethereal last night.  especially on the closer of his master voice, which ive only listened to once.  great song selection, great vibe, great crowd, great venue, great night.

dylan it was good to see you last night.  im assuming you can figure out who this is.

What a fun night.   Unforgettable online experience.  Still would have loved to be in that front row!   But a nice consolation prize nonetheless.

Madbastard said they were going to archive the video stream at Motherlodge "On Demand" but I can't find that anywhere.  If we find that I can capture it now.

just so folks know, I was prepared to tape last night with a stand or just clipping mics on my bag on the floor (how it went down the last Rud show) but BPorter showed up and set up center of the floor and I sat front row with my mics on my camera bag. My recording turned out nice so I'm sure Brian's will be magic!

No way, I thought I was bugging you!  I kept trying to find a program to capture live streaming and failed in the time I had left.  Hopefully they will get it archived and we can get it from there.  There were lots of issues though.   Were you able to tape?

Kory/Dylan/LD- Y'all have hearing left? Jeeze o pete Jim was belting it out last night or what. That voice is a stonger force of nature then a giant wall of Marshall full stacks cranked to 11 and a really angry guitar player is behind the axe.

That's the second time I heard Magic Marker live, what I've called "ordinary" for two years. I think everyone thought it was an Aaron Todavich song but I believe it's just about him; Jim was on the verge of tears through the song and even sniffled in the mic a bit. I love the emotion it brings...

Truly amazing!

Instead of a pocket-square (handkerchief), Jim had a little stuffed owl peeking out of his brown suit.  It was sweet.  Jim looked great too.  I thought he maybe lost a few lbs since I saw him in June.  Not that he needed to.  He's definitely ready for the MOF tour and I really hope he embraces his solo excellence.

Congratulations to Kory for being #1 in line!  I don't think I've been #1 in any line (mug shots don't count), so I think it's super cool.  Dylan and I arrived soon after for the #2 & #3 spots...and watched the line build behind us.  Goose was just behind us so we had a little party for the 3+ hours we waited.

In that time, we ate cookies (yumm---mu'fuckin'---me), laid down some basic guidelines for the Monsters of Folk Drinking Game (maybe that was just me), and learned several ways how NOT to start a lawn mower.  It was a nice wait, actually because we had some music playing, a great bush to pee behind, good conversation, and even the 39 drops of rain that fell weren't bad.

Dylan and I had a WWJJD moment and lent our hand to a couple of folks whose plans conflicted with the show's ticket policy.  I drank some good beer.  Then when the headache kicked in, drank some good ice water!  Then just a little more beer. Saw John Gage, Bridgid Kaelin, Steve Cooley, AM Sunday and chef Timothy Tucker do some artistic cross-over (TT prepared a meal and desert while AM Sunday interpreted it musically)...all from the front row.  Then the auction starts...and due to apparent boredom, it was briefly interrupted because the Internet wanted Toby to talk to his girlfriend.  :) **Insert story here**

And low and behold, Jim James walked right out and performed 11 beautiful songs, four and a half feet in front of me.  I was so nervous.  It was somewhat emotional to see him up there...with no Carl...no band...no Monsters...no trannies...no duets...no "Nobody"...nobody but him.  To see him give himself to each song is what gives the songs life.  He wasn't just there to perform...he was there to breathe life into all of us who need it.  It must be exhausting.  I know it is for me...and I'm one of many...and on the receiving end.  It still amazes me that he is able to create so much sonicity with just a guitar, his voice and a polyester suit.

Long live Jim James!  Long live Jim James!  Long live Jim James and his amazing Technicolor dream sequences!

PS- The peeps at home, watching on the World Wide Web were a big hit too.  There was a lot of traffic and the guy who was moderating said you guys were the best...staying active and open and being super cool...even the foul-mouthed one(s).  Thanks for the interview...I hope I wasn't too big of a dork...well, I don't mind being a dork, I just don't want to seem like a hillbilly dork.  :-/

Kory the pic is unbelievable!

Also,

since I missed this thread, I would like to say:

1.  I want to be close to the front, but I know Dylan will be up there.
2.  I 'm sure we will have some douchebags in the audience.  even though we all love MMJ, they always seem to show up.  ;)
3.  I really hope some f***ing nazi isn't there telling me what to do and ruining the vibes.
4.  I cannot believe I'm going to see Jim live

After Effects
a.  I was close to the front, but Kory won
b.  Douchebags did show!  See I told ya! :P
c.  There was a nazi, but we left her in the dust!  Cha!
d.  Holy Shit, I can't believe Jim sat played 3 feet in front of me!  And to end it with his Master's Voice made my year!  I love that song!

fantastic picture kory! what kind of camera were you using?

Nikon D700 and a 50 1.8 lens wide open...
much of the set was with one red light shining on Jim and that's hell for a photographer but it makes awesome light to match Jim's tone.

Tell me about it.  I was on my head phones laughing out loud every five minutes.  My wife kept laughing at me laughing.   The only problem was trying to make a new drink with all those wires attached to me.  However, I managed.

I agree.

I saw Yo La Tengo at a local theater last year and their policies are a little too much for me, but you def experience the show. You can't stand (which sucks when you want to get up and bust a move) you cant drink (duh) no talking (that's fine) no cell phones (you had to have them OFF, if security saw a cell phone light they would come over and wait for you to shut it off.) You literally had to sit there quietly with all attention at the stage. It was stricter than I prefer, but quite honestly it was one of the best shows I've seen & still a wonderful experience.

No, I didn't pull a flash the whole night, I didn't see anyone with an SLR with a strobe. The guy next to me had the same camera as me and was using the pop up flash here and there... they shouldn't include a pop up flash on a D700, it's just embarrassing.

You know I am going to go ballistic on people if that happens at the MOF shows.  Though I am starting to notice that the true fans who are there to listen to the music have had it up to here with the wannabees and the people who are there to get drunk or socialize or whatever hell else.  When I saw Fleet Foxes this past summer, a girl standing beside me turned around to a bunch of girls giggling and talking on their cellphones and yelled "SHUT THE FUCK UP, I WANNA HEAR THE BAND, NOt YOU IDIOTS".  The girls promptly left the area.

i didn't notice the talking as much when YY was playing but during the other bands, it was LOUD. the chat moderator said that louisville audiences are known for that, but i think it's pretty universal. i've noticed it here a lot, too.

Great pics and great recording!

I have added most of these tracks to my MoF setlist CD that I am listening to to get ready for the show in Chicago. These songs by Jim may provide a pretty good preview of what they will sound like on the current tour.

(Also, I was pretty much completely unfamiliar with the Ward and Oberst tunes, so I have also burned and been playing their songs that have shown up so far - I find I enjoy a concert a lot more if I already have the melodies in my head.)
