That is all. Predictions?
QuoteThat is all. Predictions?
Do you mean 11.4.09 BH? 'Cause I'm not going to make predictions based on something that's already happened. I'd probly be wrong anyway. :-/
My prediction is Say Please. Because that's their single. It showcases three vocalities and the Mogis' solo. And they have to stay consistent so hopefully they can sell some records and tickets.
I hope they play something else....say please has already been played on Conan. I hope they play Losin yo head or right place.
oops, yes 11-4
I'm gonna guess Dear God. It's probably not going to happen, but I just have a feeling.
I think Goodway would also be an excellent choice. Gotta' set my DVR...

Good call! Looks like your wish is coming true...
this should be sweet. I wonder if jimmy's a fan?
Would love to hear Goodway but it might be a tad short, even for a Late Night appearance. I'm going with The Sandman, The Brakeman and Me.
on the Jimmy Fallon website it says Dear God. coool
I would put my money on a couple of KISS covers, full-on costumes, and Conor in flats. I mean, it's a real bitch to climb up on top of your Orange amp in eight inch platforms.
that was cool with the roots. jimmy fallon really seemed to enjoy it. he must be a fan
Just watched it. When JJ woooooes at the end, well if that does not bring you home then you are fucking dead!
I DVR'd it. can't wait to watch it tonight :-)!!

I don't have any fancy video taping system. Is this available anywhere on the world wide web yet?
I fell asleep and forgot to tivo it... I'm with LD, anywhere to see it online?
I can't check hulu yet but if it's NBC, you should be able to watch it there right?
yes,

i vote they add the roots as an opener for the rest of their tour.

seconded!
Is it just me, or did that sound kinda rough? I thought they were all having pitch issues. :-/

i agree, they seemed exhausted- their harmonies were not on at all.
I saw them in Boston, and was worried going in that they were gonna be exhausted. I saw no sign of it, but their schedule has been crazy-
shows on 4 straight days Oct 28 - 31, ending with the big Halloween bash.
Then one day off followed by Toronto and Boston back to back - no wonder they were tired the following day- that's playing 7 out of the last 8 days!!
try this for just the song. http://www.hulu.com/watch/106788/late-night-with-jimmy-fallon-monsters-of-folk-performance#s-p2-sr-i1
thanks for posting that link! i missed the show last night, and it's nice to see the mof via the interweb.
Pitch issues? It was bloody awful.
QuotePitch issues? It was bloody awful.
I listened to this at work with small speakers and thought they were off as well. Then I listened to it with very high quality headphones and they sound just fine. Talk show performances play tricks on yer ears especially if you're listening through a TV.
Everything always sounds better with headphones. They were definitely off-pitch. Jim's wordless falsetto toward the end was right-on, however. The rest of it was kinda cringe-worthy. That's okay, though, a lot of musicians I love who have great voices sing poorly on late night talk shows; I have no idea why. Nerves? Bad monitors? Who cares, Jim is still a god.
I listened to it through a high-end home system. They were off key...a lot. Honestly, I don't care for the song at all, so I might be biased (though my bias isn't working in the right direction for this crowd!).

Uhhmmmm....yeah
One that wasn't The Roots....That was ?uest Love brushing the snare and a fill in barely stroking an acoustic.
Two, the Roots don't open for ANYONE! >:(
Like Jimmy Page plucking a G Chord and saying Zep should open for the Wilbury's.
it was alright....I thought M.Ward sounded the best out of all of them, and Jim's cooning at the end was really beautiful. Their Say Please performance on Conon was 100 times better though.
On a positive note...Pitchfork seemed to like it. :D
Uh, let's be honest The Roots threw this whole performance OFF. It was nice they let them join in but it didn't really serve the song well. This is the best song on the record and they killed it live when I saw them. I agree that late night shows always suck (except for MMJ's first show on Conan!!)
I think it's the fact that the song is not in the context of a real show. I mean they wait around for hours and then have one song to play like they are in the middle of a concert? It's just not natural, and it always shows. I've pretty much seen the worst version of songs by bands I really love performed on late night television. Who really gives a shit what Dear God sounded like on Jimmy Fallon, I mean his interviews suck 90% of the time and the show was specifically designed for success in that area.

Pitchfork is a leaf blowing in the wind. They ranked the Fleet Foxes album better than At Dawn, It Still Moves and The TN Fire. It's stupid, I'm just glad that Jim doesn't even really give a shit about the media. They could have/should have just skipped Fallon.
sweatboard speaks the truf.
Sorry Sweatboard, but I thought it was awesome. The Roots are one of my favorite hip-hop bands (contrary to popular belief, their music is definitely not rap), and I think they always add a new flavor to whatever they play on. They added a whole new funk to JAy-Z's entire catalog between unplugged and his final performance tour (before his premature retirement). You just have to look at it in a different light. It's like saying the MOF is not jacket even though Jim is there. That's just my opinion though.
I thought the live drumming by Questlove was a cool way to do it instead of the sample on the Omnichord, but I'm not sure if it all came off that great. It's wierd, I thought they sounded a bit rough vocally when I listened on the computer but when I got home and watched it, it seemed much better.
I totally agree that bands don't seem to ever sound there best on late night shows. No great way to warm up your vocals? Unfamiliar equipment? Monitors?
yeah quest love's afro definitely messed with the frequencies on that performance. M's vocals were spot on though I thought.

The Roots aren't Rap??? If they're not a Hip-Hop troupe, than what are they? Explain.

I called them hip-hop, not rap. I differentiate the two.
Sounds like people have a mixed reaction to the performance (I like it!). I'm eventually going to post this on my blog but thought I'd share it here first for those of you that did like it or have not heard it yet.

So what's your definition of the two terms? I'm just curious, since I've heard that hip hop is the culture and rap is the music of said culture.
