Took the words right out of my mouth, BH.

Anytime Jim is in Philly and the show is streamed, we should all thank a man by the name of Dan Reed.  He was the former Program Director of WFPK in Louisville, and is considered the father of the AAA Radio format.  He took over at the Philly station a few years ago, because it's arguably the biggest Public Radio station in the nation.  He's a big Jacket fan.

Philly is Monday Nov 9th.  I would ,but like ghosts, I will be there.  And yes, we probably have Dan to thank for this.   The last time MMJ were in town, the show was also broadcast.  Dan, by the way, very cool guy!!

I very much agree.  Cool story involving Dan Reed:

He and my buddy Casey went to a Reds game a few years back and they were in the beer line and Getty Lee was right in front of them.  So naturally, they wanted to acknowledge him, but not bother.  He turned out to be somewhat of an asshole and said something to the effect of, "Leave me alone.  I'm not here to talk to people."

So after a couple of innings, they realized he was sitting a few rows in front of them. So Dan pointed down to him and told a bunch of teenage kids wearing Megadeath t-shirts and stuff that Getty Lee was down there.  And all these kids rushed down there and swarmed him and pestered him for autographs and shit.  It was funny.  Go Dan.  Way to deliver instant karma.  ;)

Note to rock stars: If someone recognizes you...have the decency to let them be nice for a sec.

thank my masters voice!

we definitely need to setup a web chat for the stream.  it's a must.  if we have a week we could get one going.  not sure where's the best place for that.  probably a service like madbastard was using so people who don't have instant messager or msn can all easily chat.

whose down?  if that last one was random and that much fun I can't imagine what one with the board there.

Ahh, cool story! I have a little story; I actually ran into Nick Zinner of Yeah Yeah Yeahs last night at MoF at the Beacon Theatre... I didn't want to bother him, he was with some chick, but He acknowledged me and my YYY's pins, and gave me quick wave like "yeah, it's me"

don't think I'll be participating- but I might show up.

here is this link I found for a chat room maker-  http://chatmaker.net/
seems pretty easy and anyone can create the room and send the link for people to join up.  Sticky- you might be in charge of this.

enjoy if folks- wish I was going to the philly show.  if anyone has an extra ticket super close... maybe I will!  ;)

I'll try and get that beast setup when I get off work.  it's going to be a bit of a squeeze getting home in time but if nobody else has the chat figured out by then I'll mod it like an MF.  could somebody post the direct link to the stream so I can just insert that bitch or whatever I have to do when I get home? thanks, can't wait for tonight.  it's going to be awesome.

I haven't taken a good look at it but I think Its pretty simple to figure out.  once the chat room link opens, you can name the room whatever you want- while your typing it will create a link below the room name.  copy that and post it on the forum then hit begin chat and then enjoy

This is the link that puts the stream through Windows Media Player at 128 kbps (right click top bar of WMP and click on Open URL, then paste this link in).  I'm sure most of you have a more sophisticated way to listen to and record tonight's show, but I'm going with a piece of shit free streaming audio recorder, since others won't work (f***ing Vista!).  It'll put the whole thing on a single mp3, unless I stop and start, which I might do at around every 60-75 minutes, so it'll burn to a CD.

Just got home, very nice show.  Jim dedicated "To Save Me" to "the cast and crew of The Poseidon Adventure". He told the crowd they filmed the ballroom scenes in the venue..."the Black Eyed Peas, they played right over there".

Highlights were We Are Nowhere and Its Now (stunning), Slow Down Jo, One Hundred Million Years, At Dawn, Jim's Curley Shuffle-like dance, Mogis on the mandolin, and any time M. Ward picked up a guitar. Jim's voice has become a thing of beauty. The harmonies were amazing, especially during Slow Down Jo. You could have heard a pin drop in the place.

When I heard the first few chords of Golden I got hit with a million memories from the last Jacket tour. It was great to hear some Jacket live but it only made my jones for a full tour worse  :D

I was out for the evening but thanks to LD's reminder text I got my computer set up to tape it. Just looking at the waveforms and doesn't look like I have any drops...
Abe, I'll verify at work tomorrow and if you think you have time to do the cutting, I'll pass it on to you. I have 24 gigs of photos to edit and another full weekend of shooting coming up so it may be a little while before I can splice it up.

I just started to upload my recording, and I do have a few drops (Dear God is missing almost 2 minutes).  Since I put the work in I'll share mine for now.  I'm sure you can do a whole lot more w/your recording than I could (I don't know what a waveform is or how to check it), so I'd be happy to wait for you to upload than messing up what sounds like may be a perfect recording.

haha there is no way they covered jason mraz.  I think I'd be a bit sad if they did actually.  today jason mraz was on the myspace front page with him holding his arms up.  the caption read something like "Jason Mraz cover's All Night Long by Lionel Richie".  it's like come on mraz that's so new years eve 2006 it's not even funny.

Love Is Real by Jason Mraz:

Love is real, it is not just in novels or the movies
It is fact and it is standing here right in front of you
So if you just open your eyes
Oh what a sweet discovery
There is hope
And there is joy
And there is acceptance
So now let all the light that collects on your plants
Keep you warm
Make you smile
And I will be there with this pen in my hand to record all the while
Youll be laughing so loud
That the house would shake with sound
And everything will be as new as the day it was found

it is not
just in novels or the movies
it is fact
and it is standing here right in front of you
so if you open your eyes
what a sweet discovery
there is hope, and there is joy, and there is acceptance
so now let all the light that collects on your plants
keep you warm
make you smile
and I will be there with this pen in my hand to record
all the while
you'll be laughing so loud
that the house would shake with sound
and everything will be as new as the day it was found.

Love is real
it is not just in long distance commercials
or something that you thought you felt back in high school
so I will turn
black and white
become that horoscope you're reading
it predicts something good is on its way
and then I will send you the world green and blue
in a box through the mail
you can open it up
hold it right in your hand and be glad that it's there
and be glad that you're there
now you can feel all the knots in your stomach start to untie
and suddenly it's not so hard to say you're alright.

Love is real
it is not
just in poetry and stories
it is truth
and it will follow you
everywhere you go from now on
so if you would just cast off your doubt
then your lips would answer for you
oh my darling, when you smile
it is like a song
and I can hear it now.

My guess is that it must be Oberst's song...

I hate jason mraz with a passion.  that e-surance commercial reminds me too much of him and now every time that dudes name is brought up I cringe.

this dude reminds me of jason mraz:

Mraz covered the bright eyes song. And changed the name.

changed the name? isn't that plagiarism?

I don't really know how that works, cause I don't think the mraz version ever got offically released. The bright eyes version came out in 01, pretty sure the mraz version started floating around in 03. I remember hearing about it, but I've never heard it. He could have just played it live and people could have assumed it was called love is real, who knows. You would think he would have said the name and that it was a bright eyes song if that was the case though. If he was the one who called it love is real, that's a pretty douchey move, imo.

Will the drummer man.  he sings on bh as well I think.  he really adds a nice touch with those vocals.  sweet they can do 4 parts harmonies if they want with 4 completely unique voices.

He has an album out now with Jason Molina of Magnolia Electric Co., called...Molina and Johnson  ;D When I talked to him at the bar before the show last night, he told me they are playing Johhny Brenda's in Philly in December. I'm probably gonna check it out. I can't stress enough how nice he was. Talked to him for a good 10 minutes.  Super nice.

Also, I just listened to Jason Mraz's "Love is Real" on youtube. It's Kathy with a K's song. Bright Eyes cover. The original is on a split ep with a band called Son, Ambulace called " Oh, holy Fools" and also on a vinyl ep called "Don't be frightened of turning the page", which is just the Bright Eyes songs from Oh, holy fools, If anyone is interested.

Yeah, I would imagine it still is. The arrangement on the studio version is different than they way they played it on the Mof tour, it's just vocals and guitar up until the end. THe whole ep is pretty good.

I meant to mention that Kathy with a K is from a Bright Eyes/Son, Ambulance split. I used to be really into Son, Ambulance. As much as you could be with their sporadic, limited output. "Key" is a really good album, check out Paper Snowflakes and Sex in C Minor. I think they released a new album this year but I haven't picked it up yet.

Sorry to start a controversary over this.  I was googling during the concert.  I looked up the lyrics and it brought up Mraz, not Bright Eyes.  BH called it, and I am the unknowing fool.  At least I now think Mraz might be a douche as well for covering a song, changing the name, and not giving cred.  I guess that will be the next investigation.

no prob. Yeah, I'd recommend the ep, "you are the roots that sleep beneith my feet, and hold the earth in place" is one of my favorite bright eyes songs.

Let's be honest here.  We as Jacket fans love it when JJ brings it raw.  That said, "The Right Place" was downright painful to listen to!  I know after a long tour it's tough to stretch the 'Vchords'....

If you weren't a straight Jacket fan, what would you think if that was the 1st thing you heard?

Honest question

I'd probably say something like "damn, that dude needs to quit sucking so much cock".

but in all seriousness I don't think he sounded that bad during the show at all.  I've only listened once so far so I don't even really remember how on or off it was, I just remember "slow down jo" and how bad ass it was.

Ha!  The only reason I knew it was Kathy with a K's song, is because that is basically the only song I had never heard of on the previous setlists so I looked it up and sure enough the lyrics matched.  I had no idea Mraz covered it or even who wrote it.

Its crazy how different the taped show sounds from the live show. Soul singer live was flipping awesome but you can't really catch it on the recording. I think say please was the other song that I loved live at the show. I wish they would have strung it out for another couple of minutes.
