Sold out!!!!
Anyone have 2 extras?!?! :-/
QuoteMidnight show the first Saturday of Jazz Fest. Ticket just purchased!
:D :D :D
Please tell me where you bought the tickets. I need to tell my friend this immediately!
I got them on ticketweb and they sold out quickly. Apparently only 100 guests and everyone will have a seat (Pres Hall is pretty tiny).
I feel badly I didn't pick up a second in case someone needed one.
I too am looking for 2 extras! Please please please!

I promise you not everyone will have a seat. There are only 3 rows of seat there and they go very very quick.
yikes...just saw the news...please tell me this isn't sold out...
Shoot...crazy day at work and look what I miss. If anyone has an extra that they can part with, please contact me. vachelle at yahoo dot com.
Is anyone else trying to picture the PHJB and all five members of MMJ crammed up in there? Holy crap! If you don't have a ticket just be sure you are holding a giant hurricane right outside the door at about 11 pm!
Had a ticket in the cart this afternoon, hesitated, and lost it. Had to mull it over just a bit because of the price tag and I blew it. Oh well, my own fault..... would have had one had I just purchased it without thinking. Rest assured I'll be hanging out just outside though. I suck.
I think there's going to be a very large crowd outside that night. If I get in, well that's where I'll be. If I don't get in, I'll probably head elsewhere after a song or 5. :)
I have been to a bunch of the midnight shows at Preservation hall during Jazzfest and and MMJ will probably only perform 6 or 7 songs. These shows are typically pretty short but well worth it! Often the bands hang out after the shows outside in the court yard. Also I strongly urge anyone who does have a ticket to get there early the place gets packed and it can be very hard to see.
I am doubting any extra tickets will become available but I am going to keep trying. I keep checking the ticket site about every half hour in hopes they release a few more.
The Ticketweb site says "11:55 PM CDT (11:30 PM DOORS) to Apr 25, 2010 1:30 AM CDT". I wonder if that means anything in regards to set length.

It does. What will probably happen is that Preservation Hall Jazz Band will perform 5 or 6 songs. Then MMJ will perform 6 or 7 songs. Then they will combine to perform 2 songs.
This was the format for Del McCoury/Preservation Hall last year and Kid Koala and Preservation Hall Jazz Band in 2008.
I'm taking notes.

I'm hoping that something works out and I get to squeeze in. Great suggestion on checking back for tickets. I haven't done the Midnight Preserves shows before. I like to go to Hall during the daze between when it's less crowded. But for MMJ in that setting, I'd happily be crowded. :)
There is a post of the New Orleans craigslist offering two tickets for 2500. Dear MMJ and Ben Jaffe it is time move this show to the Mahalia Jackson theater! I like that they are trying to do a small show at a very special venue and I hate complaining because I don't have tickets but the draw for MMJ is just to big to do this size of a venue when there are an extra 50k people in New Orleans.

In the very least, cancel those tix and resell them to me. ;) Looks like the MJ Theatre is open all first weekend. Maybe another announcement is yet to come.
I totally understand some people are upset because they did not get tickets (I would be as well). Having said that, why would you want the show moved from the legendary PH to a larger theater because you didn't get tickets? To me that sounds pretty selfish. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see a band like MMJ play an EXTREMELY intimate show! The best band in the world is playing a show for a 100 fans!! Thats a good thing and a major reason why they are the best band in the world imo, because they do stuff like this. Be happy for those who were lucky enough to get tickets.
Even if i dont get a ticket to this show I am going to be at pres hall all night trying to find a way in... bribing the door guy i dunno.... worst case scenario I'll listen through the door... ;D
Arudy isn't it also selfish for you to want to keep it at Preservation Hall? Plus what is special about the show is not the size. I saw a few MMJ with less than 100 people in the room. What I viewed as special was the chance to see 2 bands that have meant so much to me over the past 10 years collaborate on stage together. But hopefully I will get that chance on Sunday at the fair grounds.
Also what bothered me is that people are starting to buy MMJ tickets for the purpose of scalping them. This is the first time since I first saw the band in 2002 that I am shut out. During that time you could almost always find tickets the day of the show.
But don't worry they aren't going to move the show. Also I really do hope that all people who do have tickets get a great show.
Arudy is right, the whole point is to play AT Preservation Hall. And yes, what keeps some shows special IS the size. The price you pay as the band gets bigger. I think you should go there early, beg, plead, offer sexual favors...just don't question the band's management for this 'awesome' of a show.
i wish you all good luck getting tix... :) this would be something to behold. :)
I agree the point is to play Preservation Hall and that is very special. I tend to disagree that size makes a show special. It really is more about the performance. To say that any show that is in a small venue is special is kind of ridiculous. The band just started playing large venues on the last tour. But it is really cool that they are continuing to through in small shows.
I am not sure what you mean by questions the bands "management" since I didn't say anything like that. And I should say that Arudy is kind of right it is kind of selfish, but at the same time I never thought they would actually move the show. Or that anyone would take that request to heart. It was more a response to some one selling tickets for 2500 which I do find very very selfish.
$2500. WTF?!? Go to the post and flag it as prohibited. Humanity really bites sometimes. I'm sorry I didn't grab an extra ticket for you NoVa...didn't realize how quickly it would sell out and assumed you'd be online when I PMd you. :(

"As a fan of My Morning Jacket, I say "shame on you!" Did you buy the tickets to go yourself, then found out you couldn't? Or did you snatch them away from a deserving fan so you could try and make an obscene profit? If it's the former, don't be an asshole and sell the ticket at face value. If it's the latter, you are evil. WTF? Hell, I had an extra 4th row seat to the MMJ show in Birmingham and I'm selling it on eBay with 100% going to charity. I had another ticket that I posted on eBay "Buy It Now" for face value. I could get a lot more but I'm a fan and want others to have a chance to see them without putting cash in the pocket of anyone who isn't MY MORNING JACKET! They're the ones putting on the show, mofo! What have you done to deserve $2500+ for 2 tickets? I hate to imagine empty seats, but I hope no one buys these tickets and you're stuck. BTW, I am not going to this show, so I am not directly affected by this extortion.
No need to reply."

"hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Dude, Im a huge MMJ fan, born in Louisville and been a fan since they began. Im going to the show, UNLESS, some idiot wants to give me 5,000$ or something for the tickets. I do that with all the shows I go to. List them and see if someone is willing to pay it. I mean think about it, if someone said to you, here is 5k$, can I go to the show instead of you? Id say, here are the tickets, Ill catch the next show. Ive seen over 500 shows in my day, sorry if what I do bothers you, but Ill take a shit load of cash and miss a show. Ive seen so many as is, that much cash is too serious to pass up, sorry if you are some custie."

My response (I'll stop here, I promise)
"I'm glad I made you laugh. Honestly, I try my best to get good tickets to shows I want to see, but far too often they go to people willing to make a buck and mark 'em up. I just think it sucks. I'm not against a person's right to sell tickets if it turns out you can't use them, but good seats to great shows seem to go to people who don't deserve them. I think the fact that you say you're a fan but yet willing to make money on it is sad. Just my opinion. Sorry if I come across self-righteous, but whatever."
that's nicer than what i sent him...
"you're probably a scalper..and ....karma's a bitch" ... didn't get a response.
I bet he's full of sh*t too that he's gotten "3 offers greater than $2500". Just don't believe it.

yeah what IS that.....cutie? or crusty?
from the Urban Dictionary:
custie
Short for 'customer'- drug dealer slang used to denote either a customer in general or a customer who would pay higher then average prices for the drugs. Can also be used as a verb 'to custie someone'.
'Super' is often added to strengthen the word (ie a supercustie)
Mike is such a custie...he paid $60 for this eighth of weed.
As verb: I totally custied Mike. He got custie.
I need to let this go, but...
If this guy's such a big fan of MMJ, a native of Louisville, loved 'em since they started, why would he contribute to the practice of scalping? It doesn't benefit the band, excludes most fans, and contributes to higher ticket prices. I don't get it. What am I missing? I guess I just don't want to ever believe that people are as greedy and selfish as they sometimes appear to be. I'm all for the free market, but this reminds me of health insurance companies that reap huge profits, yet still hike premiums year after year, or banks that take federal stimulus funds, then give their executives massive bonuses. Its a fucked up little world, sometimes.
Three weeks to Birmingham! Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!

Another email from Mr. 2500$
"Im willing to make money off of some idiot rich person who is willing to throw their money away. I have a family and realize what I can use to help them out more. If I can get a lot of money and miss out on a killer show, then Id do that for the benefit of them. I see hundreds of shows a year dude, sometimes when you get older, you realize what is more important in life. If no idiot buys them for that price, then I go and enjoy the most fantastic show ever. Why do you think I list them at such a high price? That is what they are WORTH to me as a fan. Welcome to the real world."
MR. $2500 is from an EVIL WORLD, send him back! I hate the idea of him even listening to any music! He is soulless!
Some people are so backwards- there is no reasoning with them you just have to live your life knowing that there are people in this world that you actually hate
I don't understand why Jacket did not work better with Preservation Hall about this gig. Many other artists require the ID of the credit card used to purchase at the venue to receive the tickets. Wilco has started releasing last minute tickets with this policy and I know Tom Waits does this at most of his gigs. The ball was really dropped on this one.
scalpers are always going to be able to take advantage of a system that is flawed however I feel like a band of Jacket's caliber really should have helped fans out more here. Okay, I'm done... when's Birmingham.... :D
I agree that this would have been a great time to do will call only. I also want to say I think that MMJ should start something similar to the "10 club" that Pearl Jam has to allow fans first access to tickets.

Agreed, I have 10C for PJ and its a great system. It sometimes sucks waiting in the WC line & getting shut out of tix after paying for a membership, but for good seats its worth it. WC would probably have been best bet for this show... although the way scalpers work these days, who knows.

I second that motion...I would love to see this. Just need 2 tix...could it be possible?!
I so wanna go.
i got a friend who works at pres hall... she says it is completely sold out that only 60 tickets were available. I plan on sitting outside and listening however my friend also said that they are going to have extra security and i am wondering if they are going to hassle any one hanging around outside. My friend also said that it is becoming a big publicity thing for pres hall... a kind of photo opportunity for them is how she explained it. So i dunno how it's going to work out im going to try my luck and also consider paying a pretty penny for this priceless show

There are people on the JF board saying the same thing about only 60 tickets being sold. If I can't find tickets before the night of the show I will probably just head to another show.
if you are unfamilar with pres hall it is very small and you can hear the band very well from outside... wish they would leave the shutters open but thats doubtful
I am very familiar with Preservation Hall but still I just can't justify sitting on the street trying to listen to the show when so much other great music will be going on in New Orleans. I have gotten the chance to see some very special MMJ shows. I may just have to sit this one out if I can't find tickets.

I'll likely be outside as well. I've tried every avenue I can think of to score tix without spending a months paycheck. If thats the case, we should have a worthy crew outside.

The problem with this announcement is that if someone has already bought the tickets they are screwed.

Yeah, that's crazy; I'm sure there have been some unofficial exchanges prior to this announcement.
I've been looking for a ticket since the day they went on sale. I posted on the New Orleans Craigslist about wanting to buy a ticket last week and today I got an email by a random informing me of the caveat. And I'd be coming from San Francisco...
I actually don't think that was a random person that emailed you about this policy. I too posted on Craigslist and got the same email. I think that person works for Preservation Hall because there email address was so and so @ preservationhall.com.
Your right. I emailed him back asking if there are going to be any last minute tickets for sale and he said there will not....bummer. I wonder what's gonna happen with all those scalped tickets - sold and unsold....
If anyone is selling an extra for this show, please send me an instant message. I am flying in solo for Jazz Fest just for MMJ and am saddened that I missed on the opportunity to buy a ticket for this event.
I can assist you with getting tickets to other upcoming MMJ shows, I work for a large concert promoter.
Thanks.

Agree...though, this show is early enough to head over there and see what happens. Well, that's my plan right now anyway. :) If I get lucky and someone has an extra to sell - Great! If not, I'll stroll over to One Eyed Jacks for Morning 40 Federation. Doesn't get much better than drunk-punk-funk music -- and it's a reunion of sorts too! Then down to the Blue Nile for Frequinox at 2.
Is it Jazz Fest yet!?!? :D

This policy is all rumor...I got my ticket from a friend who bought them and can't go and he says nothing was said of this during the whole ticket buying/receiving process...Neither Ticketweb or PH has posted anything. Sounds like someone just trying to mess with scalpers..which is fine, except I have a ticket, but my name is not on purchase order...and I BETCHA I'll be inside come April 24th..lol
Not a rumor. That language is actually on the stub that came with my ticket. You might want to give PH a call beforehand, just to be safe.

As long as I get at least 4 hours of sleep for most of the nights, I'm good. That and water, lots of water, during the day and it all seems to work out. :)
I usually sleep for a full 24 hours when I get home. ::)
I think I can only swing LBR @ dba Friday night and this show on Saturday night. Doesn't seem to matter how much water I consume during the day, I just can't keep going like I used to. :'(
Just found this, thought I'd share it with you guys and gals: "WWLTV.com's Jazz Fest picks for April 24"
"Pick of the Day: My Morning Jacket
As an avid concert goer, and someone who has traveled the U.S. to catch great live music, I can honestly say My Morning Jacket is easily one of the top two or three live acts I have ever seen. This is not only my pick of the day, but my pick of the entire festival. Known for their epic performances at Bonnaroo over the years, Jim James and company will dazzle the Saturday night crowd at the Fairgrounds."
And:
"Pick of the Day: My Morning Jacket
My Morning Jacket is in my top three favorite bands of the moment and unfortunately, I can't see them because of the NFL Draft. But I implore each and every one of you to go see one of the great live shows of our generation. It'll be worth the time."
Found here: http://www.wwltv.com/news/local/WWLTVcoms-Jazz-Fest-picks-for-April-24-91644844.html
(also hope this is the right thread, I'm a bit confused with all the different shows, sorry if it's the wrong one)
:)
Wow...impressive. Not that he's telling us something we didn't already know ;)
