Daniel Island will never be the same. This place typically hosts tennis tourneys that resemble a Wimbledon atmosphere. It should be interesting to see the guys rip it apart! Who else can't wait to see The Jacket blow the roof off Family Circle?
ill be there im pumped
I was debating this today but after seeing the venue, I'm in. Such a strange venue, which is good. Ticket info seems suspect so far....it says ticketmaster at 10am Friday but no link on TM so far. And no pre-sale?
yeah i want to go but very skeptical of the venue
Does anyone have any information about pre-sale for Charleston? I know a few of the other shows went on sale this morning at 10 am.
Anyone know anything about this venue? Will the floor be seats or standing? My wife is pregnant, but we dont' want to miss them.
I heard nothing of a presale yet there are tickets for sale already?
Their aren't any available on Stubhub or anything.
This looks shady >:(

This place is pretty huge! Over 10,000 capacity not including floor seats?
Good luck with tix everyone :)
GA Floor 1!
Charleston/Raleigh/Baltimore Good to go :D
QuoteAnyone know anything about this venue? Will the floor be seats or standing? My wife is pregnant, but we dont' want to miss them.
The floor seats are standing, so get 2nd level if possible.
Floor! this is great. got tickets to birmingham and atl...can't rock hard enough there because of the seats...guess i'll have to bottle it all up for charleston
Got lower level box seats, whatever that means. Looking forward to the show, last one was HOB in myrtle beach.
that HOB show was awesome. I watch the "war begun pinnacle" video from it on youtube religiously...it takes me back. so rockin...
I'm worried about the ticket sales for this show :-/ It would suck to see a show in a stale, half empty tennis arena
some acts book outdoor venues without expecting to fill them. this is likely the best venue available on the date the band was coming through town.
at the greek in los angeles, the venue will cover the terraces and furthest sections of unsold seats the night of the show.
don't consider it poor representation by your neighbors as much as a few people getting in on a good thing.
also: i'm in! [smiley=beer.gif]
Aw snap... :D

Oh you spin doctor Ms. Y. ;) Glad you are in!
I completely understand what you are saying and I'm still looking forward to the show. That this was the best venue available makes sense. It's just that I have a great aversion to large venues to begin with so my general take is not the most positive. That it's not even close to a quarter sold out now is even more disconcerting. In the end, so long as they don't cancel, I'll be happy. :)
I have seen MMJ in a wide array of venues from outside in Sunset Florida (Langerado), Vanderbilt University, Knoxville's Sundown in the City, HOB,but I am SO EXCITED to see them play in an open-air tennis cup!
This shit's going to be incredible!
:)Can't wait to see everyone there!! :)
i just got my ticket it says floor general admission whatever that means ( if anyone knows let me know) my hopes for this show is that they see it as a more intimate show at a huge open venue and that they get experimental and have fun with it. sorta like a treat for the select few who make it out
Yeah you guys are right. Brady, I'm not sure how the seats work. I have floor GA 1. Did you get sec. 1?
mine says GENFLR5 but i cant find anything online about the floor being split up and all the photos Ive seen from shows there it doesn't look split either
Quotemine says GENFLR5 but i cant find anything online about the floor being split up and all the photos Ive seen from shows there it doesn't look split either
Well, on the ticketmaster purchase page, you can look up venue seating and they did have the floor sections split up. I find it odd that it's GA and split up though
Ughh, what a sad thread! It wasn't even on the 1st page. C'mon Charleston represent.
I got some questions for some peoples that know the area. My and my friend are planning on spending two nights here. The 1st night after the show we might be shot after driving for 9 hours but Thursday, what is there to do that you recommend?
1st off, I LOVE food. What is a great locals only joint that makes the good shit? Barbecue, shrimp and grits, etc. Also, a cool joint to take in some good music in a smaller setting. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :)
I hear it's an awesome city and it's my 1st time and I can't wait.
Hyman's isn't exactly a 'locals only', may even be considered touristy...but damn good food, i've been going there for many years whenever i'm in town and will be hitting it up at least once this trip
There's several places you could check for a good scene...downtown, I'd go to The Vendue Inn to their rooftop bar either in the afternoon or evening. They usually have some music, but the setting can't be beat, also have good food. If you want a cool spot on the water go to Shem Creek in Mt Pleasant. Red's is a good one there, having local catch and should have a nice crowd come Thursday eve.
Now, as far as the true food spots, the best in my opinion are Five Loves which is downtown on Cannon, or the Mustard Seed in Mt P. Both spots have numerous nightly specials and usually have a bomb risotto dish! Both medium priced, but delicious.
Higher priced spot that I recommend is The Red Drum Gastro Pub in Mt. Pleasant. Always good!
Basically, this is an easy question to answer because Charleston has hella places to get good food.
When in doubt, eat dirt, but listen to The Jacket!

Thanks jackass and especially llama for all the recommendations. I looked up all of them and you definitely recommended a wide range of places.
Why eat dirt when you can eat good and see the Jacket? 8-)
Talking from experience, the Family Circle Tennis Center is a great venue, even when not filled. The floor might be standing or seats; it depends on the concert (check for seat numbers; if not, its probably standing). Don't feel tied to sitting there, though; the place has excellent acoustics. I once gave up my seat to sit on the absolute top row and I still heard a great show. Still, if you do go for the floor, it's kinda cool to run around on one of the only green clay courts in the world. :)
Compared to some of the larger ampitheatres (looking at you, Verizon), the security is less oppressive and more helpful, the parking situation much nicer, and the food all around much cheaper and higher quality. This place is no stranger to concerts; they host Hootie and The Blowfish (hometown heroes), OAR, and more each year.
I envy all of you that go; the venue is an awesome place to see music, and I wish I were still in Charleston just so I could be there.
I'm looking forward to it. My wife will be about 8 months pregnant at the time, we're having a little girl so never to early to introduce her to some great music.
I'm hoping they will play a nice long set, but most of all please, pretty please play Steam Engine!!

I agree on all those places....and Mustard Seed=amazing and relatively cheap!
If you want some "away from the crowd ambiance" go over to Sullivan's Island and go by Off the Hook (music, dj's on weekends), Home Team BBQ (one of the ONLY good BBQ places in SC...coming from a Memphis boy), and you MUST eat a hamburger from Poe's Tavern!!!!!!!!!!!! I always go with "The Sleeper". THE best burger I have yet to taste. Edgar Allan Poe lived on Sullivan's Island for over a year while he was in the military.

***The Pour House is a great spot where most of the local Jacket fans will be gathering before the show for FREE music on the deck, a nice selection of craft beer and incredible, authentic cuban food from El Bohio! It was voted 'Best Place to See Live Music' in Charleston last month as well!

Best. Fireplace. Ever.
....and bathrooms are a must see! (and use)....very good reading material.
this concert venue any good? and is it lookin like a lot of people are going? im going to the show in st sug,fla and looking to make it back to back nights in charleston...opinions?
i don't know anything about the venue but encourage you to make the trip anyway!
back to back shows in 2 different states? why not? [smiley=beer.gif]
Have seen one show at Family Circle (60's rock) and acoustics are AMAZING. That 'cover' band, not so much.
Floor is sold out so I would assume a good turn-out. That being said, the venue is BIG and might not appear too full.
I can get extra floor tickets (friend with Family Circle) if anyone's interested.
And you can try to negotiate this guy on Ebay:

Under 2 weeks out. I'm starting to get fired up! I'm headed down to New Orleans next week to catch them at Jazz Fest.
Is Poe's looking like the winner for the pre-game spot? I can dig it if so. A good friend of mine that lives at Park Circle North Charleston is coming. Its his first show. I wouldn't mind getting him around some fans beforehand so he understands what he's getting into. Plus, I wouldn't mind meeting some of you guys. We plan on heading somewhere around 3 that afternoon. Also, wouldn't mind posting up a tailgate maybe around 5:30 or 6 outside the venue. Maybe share some drinks, tunes, and conversation. Any thoughts?

Family Circle is all about tailgating!
I need to sell 2 tickets to the Charleston show. Will be face value. They are in section 116, seats, which is left of the stage. If anyone wants to buy please send me a message.
Thanks
I've seen a few for sale posts, but I'm looking for 3 GA floor tickets. PM, reply or email if you have some. in lexington ky and will be in charleston on monday.
So is anyone up for a preshow tailgate? Are peeps going to Poes? I'm definitely down for whatever. Let me know if there is any interest. It would be cool to meet some forum peeps at the show where the thread is getting the least interest. [smiley=beer.gif]
I am now planing to come down for the Charleston show. Atlanta was great, but too much of a tease. Another show is in order. :)
Anyone need to get rid of a ticket?
So where is a good place to stay? We are looking to stay where we can walk to a bunch of nightlife. Is historic downtown very touristy or does it have a lot to offer as far as bars and music. Otherwise, is there another neighborhood that is more appropriate for this kind of thing? Suggestions would be appreciated.
Also, for those that may be going to Poe's, how early will you be arriving there?
Just want to let interested parties know the tickets have been sold. Thanks and have a great time everyone!

It usually has an appropriate mix. King Street or Market will be your best bets if downtown is what your looking for. I personally like East Bay Meeting House. Low-key/smaller bar with very nice ambience. The bartender "Blue" will more than likely be there. Very nice, eccentric, good conversation guy.
If you can afford it, downtown is a nice mid-point to it all with the most beautiful homes I have yet to see (most Civil War or pre-civil dates). From there, Folly Beach is 15 min...Sullivans is 15 min....Family Circle is 20. So much to see and do and I hope you guys have a blast!

Cool, thanks man. Snagged two nights at the el cheapo Comfort Inn downtown, about a mile or so from the main area. Really looking forward to it. I will be at Poes around 3ish. Maybe I'll find some peoples if I overhear some Jacket jibber jabber. :)

Rock on EW! Just got in after a 9hour drive, got one vodka tonic down and on my way to Poes for a burger and beer!
just slept 10 hours, showered and have ordered up room service coffee.
got to see the show last night with ruckus and his pal, jordan! it's always great to be around people in the crowd who are there to see the show. sounds like a no-brainer, but you know, there are those who go to a concert as an event, and those that go to see the performers. i just find the peeps there to see the show make better company. :)
i left st. augustine at about 11:15. turns out the hwys between FLA and SC run through a lot of little towns, so the trip took a lot longer than i'd expected. add to that a the street i wanted to use to get from one hwy to another in one of those towns (speed limit 25mph) was shut for a bike race/street fair/butter churning. i don't know, but it made finding my way out of there challenging.
anywhoo.
i got to charleston, checked into my hotel (populated by 175 teens, a youth group or something. apparently the room next to mine was party central. oof)
the venue was lovely. who knew? i expected it to be much bigger, but it didn't seem massive. the light & sound boards were on the ground level at the end of the court.
there was not a cloud in the sky. really, just beautiful. the crowd was really slow to file in. it's such a funny thing about when an act tours with a supporting act. everyone is in the lot or lobby until just before the headliner takes the stage. i've done this, but when you're inside seeing it happen, it's just weird.
bear antics: when pooch & denise came out stan* (name changed for discretion) put them with denise stage left, pooch stage right. but before the show started, someone else came out and swaped them. what cracks me up is that there is a particular arrangement of who goes where.
PHJB:
--jelly roll
--short dressed gal
--a bad ass song that reminds me of "sing sing sing". it's just drums and trumpet for most of the song. cannot convey the swing of this song.
--ole man mose
here, mark braud introduces the band, then brings out jim for...
--tennessee hustler (when jim came out the girl next to me said to her boyfriend, "he's cute!")
--another song that sounds like a take on st. james infirmary
then patrick, carl, bo and tom come out to play percussion (lots of shakers!) for...
--st. james infirmary sung by clint maedgen
i think this was the last song. my end of set notes are always spotty b/c i get in the momentum of the show. at the end of the song, clint m. sat down. there were a couple of looks exchanged among the band and they ended the set. they probably had another song or two to play, but cut it short. either b/c of the late start or b/c st. james was such a blow-out.
the crowd for the start of these PHJB sets has been SMALL. small enough that as the band takes the stage you can see them marvelling and shaking their heads at the hilarity of it all. and when they start playing some of the crowd seems not sure what is happening, but two songs in and the crowd loooooooves them. which is fantastic.
watching them last night i kept thinking that this tour is really special. that we're getting a chance to see PHJB like this, outdoors, small crowds, swinging, swinging, swinging. fucking brilliant.

Alright charleston peeps. I'm at the Tin Roof in West Ashley and I just witnessed a Touch Me Pt. II cover. Ha!
ha!
ok. in the interest of finishing what i started, but not being up until 2am, i'm going to list my set list notes as written. this might be comedy since the notes are not so clear. ;D
when the band came out carl sat at the pedal steel, so i had no idea what they were going to play. here begins the transcription...
--tonight i want to celebrate with you: IT'S ON.
--@ dawn! diff jim bit (i think this was referring to a really loud, or odd key start to the song by jim)
--gideon --diff outro. (i think this was an uptempo outro. i love when you're digging a song and it takes an unexpected turn. i was thinking "where are you going?!" it's exciting {i sound like an absolute dork, but it's been a loooong time since i've seen a show. so.})
--OTR: the sun is down now, but still dusk. tom & carl exchange a "ready?" type look. the eyes in back drop are lit red
--wonderful man!
--amazed: at end jim shoots pat w/toy gun as he falls
--touch me pt 1: enter drunken bargers
--golden: ok. side bar: overall the crowd was great. the people around me were having a great time without being creeps. but. the drunk chick contingent was strong. the "this is my song! let me tell you why while they play it!" girls were out in force.
--thank you too: jim's gretch beautiful! (i'm not a guitarist but i have a soft spot for the sound of these.) end of song patrick mimed shooting jim
--mags! mid-set mahgeetah. it's crazy to hear it coming out of such a slow groove like TYT. starts off a bit swingy. fucking brilliant.
--lay low
--low down!
--wonderful
--librarian: the girl to the left of me (non-drunken contingent) was miming some of the story of the song. kind of sweet, really. :)
--STEAM: NONE OF THIS IS PHYSICAL really beautiful. really. (this tour coincided with the end of a very demanding job. so, being outdoors, singing, hollering, dancing, being on the road, it's all part of a big joyous picture. and that is what i was thinking here.)
at the end ruckus tapped me on the shoulder and said, "best steam engine ever"
--smokin from shootin: WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! soooo good to see mmj doing this again! at the top of the song the stage was bathed in read light, by the end it was glowing white. striking!
(crazy how they ride the momentum of smokin into...)
--end of run thru: carl leap! 3 guitars up front just badass (this is just rock show fucking badassery. i just kept shaking my head at the epic-ness of what was happening up there.)
--touch me pt 2: tom uses a pick on this song. who knew?
(here they tried something new...insteading of ending cold after TM pt2, they segued into OBH. they may have done it last week: i've kept myself in strict set-list black out since the tour started. ;) )
--OBH: big fun! carl came out to the edge of the stage, playing and dancing with the crowd
--------------
ok. nothing could have prepared us for this:
--over the rainbow: the sax player in PHJB, the man whose name i don't know, but is listed on the set list as Weenie, stepped into a spot and played this solo. fucking stunning. just heart breakingly beautiful.
soooo happy this call was made. (whoever suggested this in the set-list, this was an inspired move [smiley=beer.gif] )
--wordless: knee slide!
(phjb comes out...)
--evil urges! (not used to hearing this in the middle of a set!)
--DANCE: OUT OF CON... (this is what i scrawled as i was leaping around, grinning at ruckus and losing my shit. WHAT A GREAT TIME!! currently i am nursing a bit of a sore throat. all evidence points to my activity during this song. ;D )
--HIGHLY: continued mayhem with the band and PHJB
--carnival time: love watching many of the guys on stage singing along to this
--move on up: curtis mayfield. curtis mayfield. curtis mayfield. huge!
the sound was terrific! even up front. the mix coming thru the audience monitors on stage was so even. often bo's music gets lost amid the guitar amps close to the stage, but not last night.
as i was leaving the show i kept singing out loud the bright horn part from move on up. ;D and i realized that i was in such a hurry to get to the show (arrived in charleston just in time for rush hour) that i didn't make note of where i parked. since this wasn't the oakland coliseum, that was not an issue {like that roger waters show in 1985...}.
there were a few cars post-show tailgating as i left. the people behind me were playing james brown. fucking a.
it's been so long since i've (we've) seen mmj perform these songs live that everyone is a surprise.
and now it is 2am. and i intend to leave here at 9. so.
thanks for tolerating, and often encouraging my profanity-laced stream o' consciousness reviews. [smiley=beer.gif]
damn. what a great fucking time!
chucktown was the shit!!!! when the band hit the stage there was a glow from the sun and the energy between the crowd and the band. there was a smile on jim's face that was priceless. i was expecting an OBH opener because of the way the tour had been so far, nope ..."tonight i want to celebrate with you!" and then what seemed to be a transition into "AT DAWN!!" i about shit myself!!! wow!!! unreal! unbelievable! and they kept bringing it, lowdown, steam engine! the ending of run thru was nicely place between smokin and touch me 2. it worked very well! dancefloors encore with phjb and on and on. move on up was sorta extended out with some great jamming from the bands!! good good stuff!! off to raleigh in the morning. if its anywhere near as good, it will be heaven once again!! see ya there. :Dpeace.
Thanks Ms. Y for the love. I, in no way, am like many of the vets on this wonderful board so I don't have as many experiences as you guys do to compare Charleston to. That said, as I've had time to digest last night's show, I've more and more come to think that it was the best Jacket show I've been to.
My highlights were for sure the beginning: Tonight and At Dawn, Lowdown, Wonderful (never seen it before), that song called Steam Engine (I think), Rainbow and DANCEFLOORS!
I have to say, Wonderful Man was a great tune, thinking I wouldn't hear it. I never thought I'd rave about a show that didn't include Dondante or TWTHS. I'm learning.... :)
Who is Baustin ?
I was in the front ,watching Jim most of the night so this is great to see the big picture so to speak.
We will be at Koka Booth tonight and I think we will step back a little to see everything.
It was definately great to see Jim's exuberance up close and those smiles will stay with me for a long time !
Did he ( or she ) record the whole show ?
Any way thanks for the video , you definately are one cool person.
Once again, thanks for the outstanding review Ms. Y! I especially like the parts where Ruckus was drunk. ;D Oh, and that OBH video was a great treat too Baustin!
Man, I'm a real fiend for Dancefloors, and to hear it with the PHJB horns must've been a riot. 8-)

That picture of Two Tone is the shit!
It's always nice to read a Yvon review. Ruckus got the royal treatment, rocking out with her. You peeps rock!

Man that show was EPIC! Still the highlight of the trifecta even though Merriweather was a close second because I got to see it with my brother, girlfriend and the B'more crew.
I was humbled to have just met Ms. Y, let alone be able to rock out right behind her.
It was great. I must have missed the part where I was drunk in Ms. Y's review BB ;)
No archive.org yet, would anyone know if any mp3 downloads have surfaced? Watched the dvd (no capability to burn), but this was single-handedly THE BEST concert I have ever attended! :D
