Can't wait to all of you again!
Alright fellow Sasquatch companions, the time has finally come that we are the next show of the tour! Myself and Carling leave 3 weeks from friday and I can hardly concentrate on anything outside of MMJ. Lets get this roll call going and get pumped for the show!
Has any of you ever been to the Gorge? I heard Flaming Lips played really long at Sasquatch a couple years back, so I'm hoping MMJ are granted the same leniency with their set time. Also, seeing as there is 26 days until the festival and I don't believe that PHJB will be with them, what kind of set changes can we expect?? Maybe some TTF tunes? More off EU? A rare 'Into the Woods'? Just thinking about it makes me more excited than humanly possible!
Anyways, i can't f'n wait to see all you crazy Jacket forum friends again. LET THE COUNTDOWN BEGIN!!! :D
I WANT to go...but shit is SOLD OUT as fuck! I'm lookin for tickets and if anybody knows anybody, please please please let me know.
I'm buying my plane ticket today, and i'm just gonna wing it. Where there is a will there is ALWAYS a way. I know i'll get in, but at what price?
Also, i'll be looking to camp - any of you FINE patrons wish to let me and my lovely girlfriend camp with them. I'll bring some delicious Durango Colorado Ska brewing Company beer (and cash) in payment.
Either way, i'll see you wierdo's in Washington.

There you go dude!! Tickets from $100-$1000. I see some saturday VIP tickets on there for $159 each. Also check hotels in Ephrata and the area. We paid $50 for the Saturday night...
I have an extra room with two double beds at the Super 8 in Moses Lake (about a 20 minute drive from the Gorge). We stayed there for '07 and it's not a bad drive at all.
If you're interested in the room, e-mail me at leperilloux at aol dot com for details, otherwise I'm going to cancel it within the next week or so.
I still have my camping pass and will have a free flight by then.
Hrm.

Hahaha! You crack me up!
I've been doing the same thing all day with Roo. I am trying to figure out how I can go cheap-o style. They don't have MMJ, but I am loving those sub-headliners...
QuoteI still have my camping pass and will have a free flight by then.
Hrm.
Do you still have you ticket???
Not sure how these roll calls work exactly...but I'll be there and I can't f'n wait! Looking forward to meeting some of you fellow obsessive MMJ fans...this is going to be amazing!
Hoping to hear Wonderful (the way I feel) and Friends Again...and a full Run Thru! Peace!
Schedule is up...MMJ are set to play from 10-11:30. Any Sasquatch veterans around that know how tight they stick to schedule?
I guess I am just really hoping for a 'full' set.
I know MMJ will be starting at 10 pm, but where do you see that they are finished at 11:30? I know that there is a dj doing a set on an other stage starting at 11:30, but I don't think that means that MMJ will stop before then. I predict 10-12:30.
Go here http://www.sasquatchfestival.com/#/band/282
right at the bottom it says 10-1130.
Oh man...thanks for the heads up. Kind of disappointing. Let's hope there isn't a curfew and they play longer than just 90 mins.
Sasquatch.com finally has their Schedule/ Schedule maker working. Here is a link to mine
http://sasquatchfestival2010.sched.org/Jacketman42
It's a neat interactive schedule they have came up with. For the record I am only attending Vampire Weekend because they are right before MMJ and i don't feel like fighting my way back down to the front. I saw Vampire Weekend in 2008 at Pemberton Festival and they were not good. I'm hoping they have improved. Brad (Stone Gossard) just got added today in place of some rapper. I am super pumped for Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, BSS, MTB...well everyone on my schedule except Vampire Weekend. If you are going to the show take a few seconds and sign up for this so we can all compare schedules and plan meet ups ect. Can't wait!!
lol Eric. I, too, am not stoked about Vampire Weekend but I will be at Main Stage pretty much all day on Saturday since there's a lot there I want to see, and I don't want to fight for the rail for the Jacket!

That's quite a schedule there.
2 weeks fellow weird'os!!! that is all...i'm going camping now.
hey all, if you have an unclaimed ticket for Sunday or Monday let me know. i'm in for Sat and have accom. thru the weekend. if i can find tix, i'll stay in town for the rest o' the fest.
also: erik26, i have a used cd copy of Acoustic Citsouca with your name on it!
Awesome!!! Thanks Yvon! We shall settle the score for that at Sasquatch.
erik, i'll mail you the cd! that way neither of us has to carry it around all day. pm me your mailing address [smiley=beer.gif]
Although I have not met anyone here, I will be at Sasquatch!
Decided on this instead of Roo because MMj was not going to be at roo.
Staying in the VIP camping area.
Welcome Mentos! Sasquatch should be killer. Why don't you go to their schedule site ( http://www.sasquatchfestival.com/ ) and fill in your schedule and post the link to it here so we can see it!
So how many forum members are going? Make yourself known!
hmmm....filled in some...seems like I may be running around....will have to decide either to run around or squat at the main stage for MMJ.
http://sasquatchfestival2010.sched.org/mentos
oh yeah, here's my number.
Will be at the gorge Friday afternoon if anyone wants to meet up and have a beer or 3 throughout the weekend.
8.5.8. 4.4.2 seven four seven 0
It's not really hard to get up close for the mainstage acts at Sasquatch. There are always campers on the rail, but the pit is pretty fluid - people move around a lot, and it's not typically crowded. I was able to walk right up to about the 10th row the year REM played, and almost to the rail (on the side) while the Flaming Lips were playing.
Good luck mentos!
thanks...that means I may be able to fit in nada surf!
See, I went with the other mentality. I am going to suffer through Vampire Weekend so I don't have to fight to get where I want to be for MMJ.
Mentos, looking at your schedule I see you are going to skip the second half of the National for the Hold Steady...I'm not saying for sure but after seeing the National on Letterman they are going to be there to melt faces and suck in new fans. I'm not sure if many will be able to leave during their set. I wanted to see the Hold Steady as well but IMO it just won't be as good.
To all attending; my number is 403 461 3040 and my Black Berry pin is 31330AFE.
QuoteI see you are going to skip the second half of the National for the Hold Steady..
I'm so on-board with Erik's stance. I confess that I will be one of the faithful in front of mainstage all day on Saturday but as luck would have it I like it all (minus VW). And while it is true that I'm not a fan of the Hold Steady, The National will in fact MELT.YOUR.FACE. Guaronteed. It would be a sad thing to miss them if you've never seen 'em live. :D
Speaking of Face...where she be?
that be my wish list, subject to change at any point in time.
If the National is hitting it, I see no reason to leave the area.
1 week everybody!!!! I am getting ridiculously excited!
I am super pumped to see Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros

If you haven't heard of or seen these guys before, think of Arcade Fire in their early stages.
Also Portugal, The Man is streaming their new album on myspace.
http://www.myspace.com/portugaltheman
IMO Edward Sharpe is about to blow up and this will be the last year to see them on a secondary stage, early in the day. So don't miss it!!
hey all.
i just happened to get the saturday off, have enough funds and am willing to drive from vancouver.
now, any idea on tickets? gonna check stub hub now....
see you there..cant wait for this!
So if any of you are in General Camping this year, me and the old man will be there all weekend. Look for us under the flag (with special thanks to Brad for the Flying V image :-*). It's the same on both sides, except for the owl face. Also, that's NOT my pink backpack - it belongs to the 8-year old! :P:

Awesome! Really wish I could be at this one. I think I would seriously just chain myself to the Sasquatch Stage for three straight days. What a kick ass line up in such a wonderful location.
3 sleeps till we depart Calgary...4 till Sasquatch!!!
Sasquatch Check-list
1. Something to put face back together after it gets melted.
2. Rain Gear
3.
4.
5.
Please add to this list!
Anyone looking for a 3-day pass (face value, of course)? Medical issue prevents me from attending this year. Beyond bummed. :'(
Send me an e-mail at leperilloux at aol dot com if you or someone you know is interested. Thanks.
all packed and ready to go!
The weather is looking a lot better now!
So are we going to try to meet up at the festival?
Had to take off tonight (Thursday). Fucking snowing in central Alberta. Staying in a shady motel in a small town in deep southern Alberta. Can't wait to see you guys at the show. Wish us luck going through the mountains tomorrow.
Whoa. That sounds like an adventure! Safe travels, Erik, and have a great time at the fest! :)

Vespa, you must go see Portugal. The Man at 3 pm on Saturday. Mandatory! They rock so hard, you will regret it!
Hopefully I will see some of you there! Heading up tonight, staying in a house (yup, I'm spoiled), getting to the Gorge in time for Portugal. The Man, then heading to the main stage for the rest of the day/night, back to the house for sleepy time and finally back to Portland Sunday morning....
Good morning from beautiful Spokane WA! We will be at Morning teleportation, Mumford, minus The bear, Portugal the man, Edward Sharpe, BSS, National and of course MMJ. I'm wearing the owl tour shirt from 08 and Carling is rocking a purple tank top. Look for us. See you soon!
Have fun everyone! Can't wait for the reports...
QuoteHave fun everyone! Can't wait for the reports...
Amen. Represent, people! Have a great time.
Okay, its been nearly 12 hours. We are all living vicariously through you, the Sasquatch attendees. Ground Control to Major Tom. Is there anybody OUT THERE?
All I heard was they played Dondante and some bro was WOOOOOing in my friend's ear the whole time. ;D :-/
I logged in to get the reports and nothing? Cmon faithful !
not even a twitter update yet!
I'm posting this from a Comfort Inn about 40 miles away from the Gorge.

"With an almost demon-like (but rocking) intro, it was pretty epic as we couldn't see anything on stage but saw creepy images of a horse's eye on the jumbo screen. My Morning Jacket is known for stretching songs out into ridiculously great jams, and this night was no different. With an atmosphere like The Gorge and a rad intro like that, shredding on the guitar was only expected to follow."
http://www.oregonlive.com/music/index.ssf/2010/05/sasquatch_day_one.html
"Despite early sound problems, Saturday night's extraordinary headlining set by My Morning Jacket on the main stage showed why James -- and his band -- just may be the future of rock."
http://blog.thenewstribune.com/tacomarockcity/2010/05/30/naked-hippies-green-man-clones-and-other-highlights-from-sasquatch-day-oneunes/
"My Morning Jacket capped things off with an epic flood of psychedelic jams and reverb-drenched vocals, a sound that helped pave the way for Fleet Foxes and Band of Horses, among other alt-country outfits to break out of Seattle. MMJ galvanized the crowd with "I'm Amazed" and "Touch Me I'm Going to Scream," among other cuts, with front man Jim James wrapping himself in a long coat for some songs. Thus clad, the singer would lurk around the stage, occasionally shielding his eyes like Bela Lugosi warding off a brandished cross."
:D
That is one SWEET ASS SET! :) Glad you guys got a great show...
Ok, I am back in Calgary and have started to digest what I experienced at Sasquatch festival. I'll start with MMJ.
Once Edward Sharpe hit the '2nd' stage at 4 it was as though a love fest had begun and every band from that point on seemingly tried to put on a show that was beyond epic. Every band was so on fire. (except VW...they still suck) By the time MMJ was about to come out the the mood, the scenery, the craziness couldn't have been any better. I would like to mention that Sasquatch had a very forward thinking approach and it was clear that anything goes. Not a sober pair of eyes to be found but there were no problems between people as everyone was amazingly respectful of each other.
Finally, the light go out and Eminence Front begins. The new stage at the Gorge is amazing. F'n huge. So many lights...so many lights! We were on the hill at the bottom standing right above the sound board. The scenery was to good from up there to be in the pit and the sound was incredible. First thing I notice, Jim is wearing his boots! Actually all of them were in suits and Carl even had his hair all gussied up! It was completely clear from the onset that they intended to take the band to a new level. I don't know how to describe it. It was only my 4th MMJ show but this was something different. The songs were loooonng. They really jammed out everything that could be jammed out. Patrick played the beginning of Smokin a little differently than he used to. All the guys were beyond animated. The Gorge was built to have Jim James sing/scream/howl in it. Jim was all over the place, but his voice was better than I have ever heard it live or on any recording. The band really showed control, by that I mean no songs were noticeably faster. It was easy to see that they were taking the gig very, very seriously. During/after the show I often thought of how I could possibly covey the enormity and epic-ness of their set.
One mistake I see in the setlist, it went Smokin/End Run Thru/Touch me 2. So the end of Touch Me 2 was fucking mental. Everyone was just swaying around to Jim's omni and then the screech and scream came...Holy fuck, between the lights and volume it stunned everyone who witnessed it. Not to mention the length of Pt2, it seemed (as a lot did) to run longer than I've heard it before. Jim was absolutely ripping around with his cape during Wordless. They never once 'plateaued' during this set. His scream and antics during Highly Suspicious were beyond any realm he had taken it to before. (kind of the theme of the night for them).
STEAM ENGINE for the closer......This was by far the longest version of this song I have ever heard. I wouldn't be surprised to find, if a recording comes out, that it ran 20 minutes. At the end when it came time for the drum solo it was only Patrick and Jim on stage. Jim had a towel over his head and was kneeling in front of the drum riser facing Patrick. While Patrick rocked out a solo, Jim (kneeling) was bowing over and over until he finished. (kind of like 'we're not worthy' from Wayne's World) It was pretty much the most intense showing of brotherhood on stage I have ever seen. It was very moving to experience that moment between Jim and Patrick.
All night they were having so much fun on stage. Jim acknowledged the spirits of the land and said he could 'feel their strength and energy tonight'. When they came out to say goodbye to the crowd they were all hugging each other, giving high fives, and looking beyond elated. As if they knew they just played one of there best shows in the bands history. Ever person I talked to was like 'Fuck man, i've seen these guys before but, NEVER like this'. They didn't play extraordinarily long, 2.25 hours or so. They didn't bring any guest on stage. They didn't play any covers and they didn't need to do any of that. It was a truly unique experience. I personally didn't see anyone recording the show. We have a few songs on the iPhone but I haven't had time to look at them yet.
I hope, as more people make it home from the festival they add to this review. MMJ was only the first day and the last thing on anybody's mind at that festival is using there phone or contacting/communicating [with] the outside world.
I'm sure more will come back to me but i need to go pick up my Edward Sharpe tickets for tomorrow night!!!!
Ps. missed all forum members at the show. It is really hard to pick people out of a crowd at The Gorge because there are so many different elevations.
Erik, way to convey! I'm glad you had an "epic" time. I thought I'd feel an immense amount of jealousy, but I'm actually quite happy for you and everyone else that had a good time. It often seems like the "best show ever" is the most recent, for obvious reasons, though you cite some great imagery to stake your claim. Thanks for the vivid report.
As someone who has yet to see Steam Engine live, I hold out hope and, in the meantime, live vicariously through you. Here's wishing for a good recording, at least of the encore.
Oh wow, such a great review Erik, thank you so much! I so wish I could have been there too, as always :D
Spot on review Erik!
Wish I was there. Great review Erik!
wow... what a setlist thanks for posting. congrats on the lucky ones who were there :)
Outstanding review Erik! I'm beyond despondent that I didn't make it out there for this.
Great review! I gotta hear that Steam Engine... :)
Thanks for the great review Erik. I'm definitely interested in hearing this Steam Engine too. I like that in the somewhat abbreviated set, they went into only one mellower section. (Tonite to Thank You). Man, besides that, that's a straight rockin' high!
They definitely were on for more than 2 hours but less than 2.5 so it wasn't that abbreviated. The length of Touch me pt2, Dondante, Steam Engine, Gideon, Lay Low just made up for the smaller list of songs. I'll see when Carling is done work if any of our videos from the iPhone turned out. If they did I will put them up on YouTube and post the link here. It was tough to get a good picture because of all the lights on the new stage at The Gorge. Maybe if we all collectively hope together, a recording will show up!

Sasquatch! 2010: The 10 best performances
1. My Morning Jacket
In 2003, this Louisville, Ky., band played the tiny Yeti side stage at Sasquatch! Saturday night's extraordinary headlining set by My Morning Jacket on the main stage showed why Jim James -- and his band -- just may be the future of rock. Simply stupendous. Looking forward to the next album.
http://music-mix.ew.com/2010/06/01/pavement-lcd-my-morning-jacket-sasquatch/
"and the unique, expansive pleasures of My Morning Jacket. The Kentucky gentlemen didn't stretch the jams out to four hours this time, but came close to two and a half with a greatest hits set that started with "One Big Holiday," "Gideon," and "Off the Record," then featured a transition from "Smokin' from Shootin'" into the crashing conclusion of "Run Thru" and "Touch Me Pt. 2[ch8243] that absolutely ripped my guts out and left me for dead in the best possible way. Danced it out to "Highly Suspicious" and went home past the sounds of Deadmau5 entertaining the remaining youngsters."
:)
Honestly, I was a little disappointed mid-way through the set. I flew in from NJ for to see MMJ. I was hoping for some older stuff PWW, The Bear, War Begun, Bermuda, Cobra, Dancefloors. I don't know how I ended up sober, that may have contributed to my disappointment. I've seen MMJ 7 times since summer of 08 and have heard Off the Record, Wordless, Lay Low, Gideon, Touch Me 2, Smokin, Anytime, OBH, Golden all seven and a bunch of others six times. I was really hoping this festival's set would be different. I would be fine with Gideon, Golden and Off the R, being replaced by PWW, Bear, War Begun. So as my disappointment sunk in as Jim thanked everyone for coming out. I thought to myself here's an Anytime closer to finish a pretty standard set from MMJ (although a standard set by these guys is incredible and significantly better than any other band performing live right now), MY MIND WAS BLOWN when I heard SOOOOO! Like a child I smacked my friend and yelled emphatically, " holy shit yes STEAM ENGINE". I couldn't contain my excitement in Merriweather when I heard this song and here it was again making my night incredible. I thought back to the smiles on my face during The Way That He Sings and at one part in Dondante when I thought to myself, WOW they are rocking the fuck out of this song, (I've seen Dondante live six times and thought this was the best). Lay Low was amazing as usual before Dondante, then Smokin, End of Run Thru, Touch Me Pt 2, Wordless Chorus, Highly Susp and Steam Engine to close. How the fuck could I even be the slightest bit disappointed with the last eight songs. They were all amazing as they usually are. I will have to wait until Philly and Boston for some older stuff. But seriously if I get the same set again I will not complain.
In regards to the rest of Saturday. Broken Social Scene and The Hold Steady were awesome. Portugal. The Man and OK Go were pretty good. Vampire Weekend really sucks. MMJ is in a league of their own!
August needs to hurry the hell up. :)
Just got back from Sassy and really had a great time. Flew up from Los Angeles to see the boys and it was completely worth the trip. I'm from Colorado and have been to Red Rocks more than I can count and it was great to finally see that venue's only rival, the Gorge. In my opinion, Red Rocks still trumps the Gorge, but only slightly.
This was my 5th MMJ show and they really played amazingly. Probably my least favorite show I have seen (compared to NYE 09, Bonnaroo 08 though) but still loved it. Did a little candy flipping and were up in the pit having a fantastic time, all smiles all around.
I read a few reviews so I'll just go over a few things that I don't think were covered. Jim had the skeleton boots on again, but no Nintendo Duck Hunt guns. He was sporting a blue trench coat for a substantial part of the show. He also seems to be playing a new guitar that I haven't seen yet, an orange Gretsch I believe.
Gideon was extended and that is the first time I have heard it go that long. Amazing version. Great to see Steam Engine, especially as a closer. I think this might be the first time they have used it as a closer.
Ran into a few Jacketeers and saw a EU flag flying high in the camp grounds. Overall, I think this was Carl's show. Much love to the guy I ran into with the skeleton boots, nintendo guns.
Next shows for me are San Diego, Los Angeles and Mile High.
LCD sound system tore it up like no one's business.

In regards to the rest of Saturday. Broken Social Scene and The Hold Steady were awesome. Portugal. The Man and OK Go were pretty good. Vampire Weekend really sucks. MMJ is in a league of their own!
August needs to hurry the hell up. :)
Hey, I understand your conflict. I spent big bucks flying to B'ham, N'ville, and Atlanta from NH and got virtually identical setlists. Still, while that was disappointing, there were many wonderful moments. Where to Begin, Carried Away, extended jams on Gideon and Dondante, the Eminence Front intro to OBH, were awesome. Meeting Jacket fans along the way made me feel at home. I have not really had a bad live MMJ experience. Just a wish list that hasn't had much crossed off YET.
Michaelfeld, I think the fan you saw with the skeleton boots must have been tragicallyphish (http://www.mymorningjacket.com/cgi-bin/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1268336265).
Yes it was me in the boots!!!!!!
The boots were a big hit.
People were wondering about my duck hunt gun but I still had fun. Yim wasn't rocking the gun but atleast he had the boots on.
I really enjoyed the show, but sort wished I stayed off the board and no downloading of the past tour so I would have been a bit more surprised.
Still had a great show and a lot of fun down at the Gorge.
I'll post some photos later
Steam. Engine. WAAAHOOOOOOOOO!!!!
We were on the rail all flippin day Saturday and it was awesome. Particularly for The National - Mat was exceptionally wild that night. The highlight of the early evening was when Vampire Weekend ended. Not kidding. (I did not know that VW could encourage so much crowd surfing and moshing?!? It was retahded. Ugh.)
For the Jacket's set Denise and Pooch were on stage and luckily Denise wasn't blocking my view because we were in front of Carl and she was waaaay up front, center. I heard lot's of people shouting to "Move the donkey" (Denise was wearing a mask). But alas, she dared not move. I think she may have a crush on jj.
We had the owl/flying v flag over in regular camping and it was AWESOME!!! Although, nobody commented but they sure did admire it as they passed.
Steam. Engine. That is all.

We didn't make it down to the main pit area at all. No wonder we never saw you. Portugal The Man, Edward Sharpe rocked the Bigfoot stage, BSS and National were unreal. Thanks to the weather for cooling off and in turn we got to stand in line for a coffee and miss ALL (!!!!!!!!!) of Vamp Week...fuck they suck but somehow managed the biggest crowd of the weekend.
Ps The Gorge > Red Rocks ;)
Actually, MMJ had the biggest crowd on Saturday night. LCD Soundsystem probably had the biggest of the weekend -- and it was well deserved.

I don't see how you could think that. The hill was more or less empty for more than half of MMJ. They may have had the biggest crowd to start but it
quickly dwindled. I heard the odd comment such as "not as good as I thought" or "Ok time for Deadmau5". The hill was FULL for all of VW...which is both sad and unfortunate. I have only seen video of LCD and it looked crazy.
Ah, I see. I was in the pit, which was packed. I assumed the hill was full. Thanks.
QuoteI'm posting this from a Comfort Inn about 40 miles away from the Gorge.
I am extremely tired so I don't know how accurate this will be but this is what I remember (100% chance not in right order)
Eminence Front Intro
One Big Holiday
Touch Me I'm Going to Scream Pt. 1
Off the Record
I'm Amazed
The way that he sings
Smokin' from Shooting
Thank You
Dondante
What a Wonderful Man
Golden
Gideon
Run Thru
Mahgeetah
Lay Low
And that was before my friends texted me and said we had to go. Sorry I don't remember more.
Oh, and also, earlier in the day I talked to Jim while he was eating a burrito. He couldn't have been nicer. He even offered me a bite of his burrito (kidding).
This?

That is one hundred percent me. My (new) friend Laura snapped it. There is also an equally stellar photo where it appears Jim James is laughing at something hilarious I obviously said.
Enough about burritos though. This show rocked. It was sad to see the lawn clear out a bit but like people have said, apparently the Vampire Weekend fans weren't ready for all of the slaying that was taking placed.
any chance there is a youtube of steam engine floating around anywhere?

I am not embarrassed to say it was the highlight of my weekend. There is one picture where we're both laughing but I don't know how to post it. Hopefully, if I see Jim in August at the Chicago show, we can recall this moment.

Haven't found one. It was my first Steam Engine so there was no way in hell I was pulling the camera back out and missing a face melting to record it. We have some quality stuff but I won't put it up because you can hear me screaming loud and clear throughout.
