Title: Appalachian Voices setlist ideas?
Post by: e_wind on Jun 24, 2010, 02:43 PM
I'm seeing my first yim solo show on this tour and was wondering if I should expect to see mmj songs at all or what. I'm going to lexington which is the first day so i wont be able to look up a set list. I know no one here can know forsure, but from past experience someone might have a better idea than me.

yeah, I'm with you, Knoxville on day 2 and this will actually be my first time seeing Yim.  So I really have no idea but I think I would be more than a little surprised if I came away without hearing at least 1 or 2 MMJ songs.  Hard to believe it's less than a month now, it'll be here before I know it - have a great time at the show and post something up quick afterward!

You'll probably here 'at dawn' and 'bermuda hwy' songs like that. Maybe even MOF tune or two! enjoy the shows, I can't make any of them.

thats what i figure. buying the ticket i was hoping to see at dawn, bermuda highway, hopefully, nashville to kentucky, and phone went west. ive never seen any of those songs live and i feel like this is prime time to see it. hopefully is at the top of my hope list.

Im sure you'll hear most of the list you want. And this is a great time to hear them cause you can hear them in an acoustic seting. Jim puts on a great acoustic show from when I heard.

Just saw this in Rolling Stone if anyone cares:

"The trio will break out MMJ tunes and songs from the new Dear Companion charity album. 'It's similar to what we did on the Monsters of Folk Tour,' James says, ' We'll be learning eachothers songs. It's going to be pretty folky."

Smokin From Shootin
Wonderful
Gideon
Way That He Sings

I saw Daniel Martin Moore and Ben Sollee in Cincy a while back when they were launching this Dear Companion. They played each other's songs and the songs from their Dear Companion Record that JJ produced.

First off, you should all cop that album if you have not. Not only is is a benefit album to help fight a truly devastating problem (Mountaintop Removal Mining), but the music is good (though definitely folk-heavy.)

I would expect, from that album, to hear:

Dear Companion
Something Somewhere Sometime
My Wealth Comes to Me
Only a Song
Flyrock Blues
Try
Wilson Creek

hell, maybe that whole album. A lot of the tracks have JJ on them already.

plus:

Wonderful
Bermuda Highway
His Master's Voice
All The Best

plus from Daniel and Ben's stuff
It's You
Stray Age
That'll Be the Plan
Bury Me With My Car
A Change is Gonna Come
Prettiest Tree on the Mountain

I suspect it will be vastly similar to JJ and M Ward's sets from St. David's Church, except Ben Sollee is kinda a musical savant and his being a cellist by trade opens a lot of doors (Gideon with a cello backing would be awesome.) Should be a great show. I have tix to the Brooklyn show but I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it yet or not.
