anyone want to take these 2 tix off my hands for this?
not even face value, i just want to recoup some of the money... i really want to go to this, but something else came up...if i can't sell, i'll definitely miss the other thing and go see this (such a beautiful album)
I also have 2-3 tickets available for this. Unless it's possible to catch an earlyish show at RCMH and then catch the end of this? Anyone (locals especially) got any suggestions?

I am working on it..tix are steep so i need to unload these first >:(
i think it would be hard to do both...JJ's in brooklyn (not TOO too far) but you don't wanna leave that early but i assume it starts around 9 even if doors open at 8?
Yeah, I got the RCMH tickets before I realized it was the same day as YY. :(
Maybe we can pool our tickets and offer a package deal? ;D

I'm seeing the YY Charlottesville gig earlier in the week instead. :)

I'll still be there. My best friend in the whole world is visiting from San Diego that weekend and she'll be with me. I turned her on to the Jacket and she's been loving them and Jim since Bonnaroo 2008. I talked to her last night and we decided to stick w/the foot stompers..
tbd--I can't pass up the chance to meet you in person either, my fellow jersey girl..

No, just a wah that you won't be at the show. A meet up is a certain possibility!! ;D
I would love to see if we can do both shows but I just don't know if it's feasible. Fingers crossed!

Let us know when you see the truth...and I'll put you back on the list.
Well if I can't sell the tickets (and it's not looking like I'll be able to do that very easily since the show hasn't sold out) I might as well hang on to them and see if we can't catch the end of the show.
I got hope!
Either way, hopefully we can hook up for a drinky-drinky-chatty-chatty :D
Mos defff! :)

haha i was thinking the same....
So what is the meetup plan for this? tbd? Fiddle? bigsky? bluesky?
Time and place and I'll be there.
Hi! So I am totally unfamiliar with the area......I will defer to the new yorkers on this one....bluesy or fiddle? I know thAt the Brooklyn brewery was mentioned but don't know if its close? Let us know and we will be there. Next friday WHOA.
i can link some places up for you guys to take a look at. brooklyn brewery is very close to the venue ... though i'm not a fan of it as a hangout spot. a bit sterile IMO but whatever you guys are into works :)
i've never been here but it's close + has rooftop beer garden -- berry park (http://www.berryparkbk.com/)
gutter's (http://www.thegutterbrooklyn.com/) is really close .. a cheesy throwback shithole bowling alley. has a very large area for hanging out and drinking alot beer though. i think you can also have pizza delivered or bring one with you, or some other such food stuffs
brooklyn bowl (http://www.brooklynbowl.com/) is also very close and is the exact opposite of gutter's .. posh, maybe more $ but with beers it's probably the same .. has good food. not alot of sit-down space unless @ bar. there is seating in a dinning area but you sorta have to dine.
i'll post more as i think of them ... but out of those three i'd probably pick gutter's for a group meet up. the venue is a little bit out of the way though so i'm having a hard time coming up with good spots that are close enough to maximize pre-show time and minimize hoofing it over time.
i can't believe this show is next week .. i am moving to new digs (practically around the corner) on thursday > show on friday > have to work on saturday (which happens like once a year) .. i'm gonna be beat come sunday!
Hey
I'm not making this show :( I'll be heading up to Newport that day...saw these guys minus Jim last winter at Joe's Pub. They were really beautiful and I'm sure you will all enjoy!!! Penny sorry I have been MIA that heat is absorbing me

thanks, brooke! this looks great. i'm up for the Brooklyn Brewery or this rooftop garden place (Berrys)? Fridays can get kinda busy so i guess what time we're gonna meet might be a factor.
bluesky---yeah, we've been missing each other. i know it's your busy season!! enjoy newport and we'll hang out in August!!
Br00ke thanks so much for the links.....I am good with whatever others like....rooftop sounds mighty appealing, but totally flexible.
Bluesky. We will miss ya but will see you
In august. Have a great time at newport. ;D
a wrench has been thrown into the works for me. hopefully i can still make the show. just not sure i'll get there in time for any pre-game shenanigans; which is a total bummer. if not, hope to bump into y'all at some point.
what are the pre-show plans, if any!?

Penny will have two of my extra tickets with her if any of y'all need an extra at the last minute....wheelin' and dealin'.....or maybe just handing out some miracles ;D :)
i definitely want to try and make it to b.bowl but i might not get off work until 6:30/7pm and then 30 - 40 minute travel time. trish gave me her # so i'll shoot her a text when i'm off and see what the situation is timing wise .. i'd love to meet ya'll though !!
if anyone is just looking for a low-key, cheap bar to hang out in before the show... I'd recommend Zablozki's. It's just down the street. Pretty good vibe.

amazing! are your feet touching the ground yet penny? I'm all smiles.
Totally forgot about the phjb factor. can't wait to hear more about their addition to an already amazing show....
I had a great time at this show. I hung out with Penny Lane (a friend from the Drive-By Truckers board) et al at Brooklyn Bowl & then the Music Hall. This was my first time seeing Preservation Hall Jazz Band and I thought they were great as well. I'm looking forward to T5 (seeing the first 3 for sure and am looking for a Z night ticket). It was cool to meet such friendly folks at Brooklyn Bowl & the Music Hall. Thanks again to Liz for getting me into the show (my ticket wouldn't scan).

hadn't hung out w/MMJ people in about a year (as a group), this was a terrific bunch...Brooklyn Bowl is the perfect place, not sure how it stills flies under the radar----when we were there, Trey Parker and Matt Stone were drinking there as well (we heard) ..ha ha..
tbd and i chatted with JJ TWICE but both our cameras were dead the first time, luckily, tbd's husband (SUPERMAN) ran after and found the tour bus and it was Jim, Ben and Daniel standing there endulging us....
the show was wonderful, it was the best show i've been to this year apart from DBT in Atlanta night 1. even the crowd was quiet and respectful...of course they ALL went nuts for the MMJ songs...Dear Companion in the encore was a nice treat, I assumed they'd start off w/that.
at one point, tbd told Jim i was a lawyer so he said he'd let me know if he needed legal services! ha ha ..OMFG...and she told him to let her know if he needed therapy...he was actually cracking up at us i think. ...we had real schtick going on. overall, he is a complete and total wonderful dude...just a gentle soul....i'll never forget last night..jumpin for joy in the streets of brooklyn w/Fiddle, tbd, hubby Bob, ynwa, Bill....my best friend from since i'm 10....my best night of 2010 so far i think.

Nice pic Penny!! You must be on the top of the world!! ;D ;D ;D
OMFG, Christine! Will you invite me to your wedding to Jim? Heck, I want to be a member of the wedding party. I could carry Jim's tails (tux) for him It looks like you guys got really cozy!!! I'm so glad you had such a good time(and insanely jealous) :D
Best night of music I've heard in a long long time. Much better than anticipated actually. Hands down my favorite side project of jim's so far...and that's saying a lot. Anyways, thought I'd share some audio I recorded. I think it came out pretty good considering it's from an iphone in my shirt pocket.
Enjoy!

What a super fun night, from beginning to end!
The Bowl was a great place to meet up and chat with everyone -- Penny, Fiddle, Tired Eyes, and Jess! What a fun group -- and then so happy to meet up with ynwa & br00ke at the show.
My first time touching the stage at any show, and that in itself would have been enough for me. But then, to get a setlist, have it signed by Jim, and actually have a little chat & photo with him was absolutely surreal. Oh and when my husband walked into the venue before the show, and noticed the guy walking next to him was Jim (with a bag of chinese food).....Oh and then the fact that he remembered the get well note that my daughter sent him 2 yrs ago, and remembering we were the people they sent tix to for the NYE 08 show....Oh, and yes, offering him legal services provided by Penny and therapy provided by me. I was nervous and babbling.......And i kept referring to CD as "penny from your website" I think he totally thought I was off my rocker...chuckle chuckle.
Seriously though, he just seems like one of the kindest souls, and I wish him and the band nothing but good things for years to come. We are so lucky!
Now, down to business -- I have a couple of cute photos but cannot get them on here...any advice would be much appreciated!
Can't wait til Vermont!!!!!!!

Thank god that Jess had her camera.......we will all have some great memories.........the bowl, the show, and the post show insane experience.......meeting Jim reaffirmed my belief that he is a genuine good guy......You, Jess, fiddle, Bill, Liz, brooke, and of course my wife, made it one of my top concert nights ever.......

thank you for sharing, this is awesome. bringing me right back - what a great night.
i'm still not yet able to funnel my thoughts & feelings from last night into anything remotely coherent.
the show was absolutely amazing. i was 2nd row from the stage, just behind fiddle & tdb. so very cool to be that close. the audio posted above really speaks for itself. just brilliant. there were many highlights, but the standout for me was "dear companion". phjb sat in on that & brought some extra umph. the trombone was sick on that. also, "save the last dance for me" was an excellent way to close out.
i tried to get to brooklyn bowl for the pre-game but could not for the life of me find parking. i circled like a shark for about 20 mins & gave up. great to meet up w/ trish, bob, rich, christine, bill & jen (???) out front. glad my extra ticket got put to good use! also excellent to meet brooke inside.
the icing on the cake:

That is all. :D :D :D
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, did this really happen?????? Can you post me on here -- you know I can't do it :)
I think it happened. I don't even.. I am.. I still can't... Umm.... :D
I got 2 videos on my Facebook. I'd upload them on YouTube, but I already have 2 strikes against my account for uploading a really blurry and shitty quality Kings of Leon video from Bonnaroo... I deserved it. ;D. They're also from a pretty bad angle because I was blocking my camera so i wouldn't be bothered.

Wow...my eyes are still red and my face is beginning to go back on...and it's been 2 days since the Appalachian Voices show.
Friday night in Brooklyn was magical. The night was perfect face melting weather; warm, dry and clear...a truly beautiful NYC summer night. Brooklyn (Williamsburg to be specific) was a refreshing location...it was surrounded by big city, but it had the air of a small town...very friendly and open. It was great to finally have met some of the forum members, and I must personally thank Penny Lane for the MOF poster (thanks PL, it's a sweet poster and thank you for bringing it to the show). The Music Hall was nice and small, but had surprisingly good acoustics (it might also have been the fact that I was only 10 feet from the stage).
I must say that Preservation Hall Jazz Band was the best opener I have ever experienced and it set the mood for the entire night. These boys just filled the venue with fuel and then JJ lit it on fire with Blue Yodel #9:
"Standing on the corner...I didn't mean no harm...along came the police and tug me by the arm...
I said you'll find my name on the tail of my shirt...I'm a Tennessee hustler and I don't have to work..."
When Jim busted this song out I almost fell over. This is one of my favorite Jerry Garcia songs and JJ melted it... After that, I knew we were in for a special show.
In the previous week I had become familiar with the songs of Dear Companion, but man were they incredible live. Ben Sollee was a fierce cello technician and he produced sounds on that piece of wood and strings that I did not know possible. Ben's voice was so chilling, and I must say I had some tears in my eyes when he was ripping "Only A Song". Daniel Martin Moore was dreamy (maybe too dreamy), but he add that soft touch to the show...Flyrock Blues was tight.
Jim James...thank you. That's all I can say. If you ever read this, I just wanted to let you know that you touched me in a way that I have never been touched before...by a man. "Where To Begin" melted not just my face...it felt like I was laid out all over the floor. JJ's voice, mind, and body was all there for us...he was on fire. In fact, all the musicians were amazing...I say this because it was the last night of the tour, and I have seen shows that are at the end of a tour that are deflated and flat...but not these boys...they were so pumped and enjoying the Brooklyn air. The entire night was perfect. I am now ready for MMJ...come on Mountain Park.

I wonder if anyone taped this show? Anyone?
QuoteI wonder if anyone taped this show? Anyone?
i have been wondering the same thing since friday. keep checking the boards but nothing so far. security was crazy about taking pics or vid of any kind (with the exception of the guy to my right who had a pretty serious camera & was never approached by security. press pass maybe?)
but i would be so psyched if someone pulled it off & shares with us.
Sorry if I missed it but did any of the PHJB members play at all during the main set with Jim, Ben and Daniel?

love this post. great reflection on the night.
jim sure does get sassy when he sings w/ phjb. and i like it. "where to begin" was absolutely beautiful. i welled up a little for sure. jim's voice on this was heartbreaking. one thing's for sure - he left it all out there on that stage. and he does that every. single. time.
as for the daniel martin moore comment - can anything really be
too dreamy ;)

Bigsky your situation resembles my own from their Columbus show in May!!
QuoteHOLY COWWWW what a trip! Opening with Blue Yodel #9 with PHJB!!!! My deadhead friends would've been more than pumped if they weren't too cool to tag along!
I just wanted to say I was equally as excited to get this right from the get-go... it definitely set the pace!!! Glad another Jerry lover of such magnitude got to experience that!!
Also wish I would've taken that into account in the Deadheads thread, when the question was posed if MMJ ever covered the Dead... I guess it was just Jim though and PHJB so it wasn't all the boys. That and it was Jerry who covered it, like you said, not the whole Dead.... close enough!! Man does that get me more fired up for Outside Lands though!! :o
Glad everyone had such a killer time at the Brooklyn A.V. show!!! It sounds like the stuff of dreams!!

brooklyn rules .. come play sometime!
oh i will..if for no other reason than to hear that BAMA accent...!!
QuoteQuotethat whole night including you all was dreamy...Jim...was beyond dreamy...and WHERE TO BEGIN was the dreamiest other than "look at you" where you could hear a pin drop...whoa
AGREED (http://www.thejamgirlz.com/phorums/images/smiles/020.gif) .. the newport download has been a nice follow up to keep me floating on that post-show cloud .. it's just all so dream'tastic!!
Quotei'm in love w/brooklyn now. i wish i could rewind and live there...between the Brooklyn Bowl, the Brooklyn Brewery and the Music Hall, I want to live right in that 5 block radius.
brooklyn rules .. come play sometime!
loved loved loved Brooklyn!! Can I come play some time too??? such fun!! October is going to be insane...
yes . everyone come hang in brooklyn. fabulous eats, drinks and tunes ta'boot !! i honestly gotta say i'm a little bit extra pumped for the T5 shows after having met some of you. i have tons of music friends but they are all about phish (who i adore but ya know .. i love other stuff too!!). i needed to find some folks that were just as MMJ / JJ crazy as i am ;) one of my phish friends was at the show friday night and she was sorta "meh" on the whole thing .. i'm like SERIOUSLY ?!? ;D
great pictures you .. i am SO JEALOUS !!
oh and i cannot CANNOT get Sylvie out of my head. loved that. and the newport version .. dare i say i heard some echoing of "the King" coming from JJ ??!!
QuoteSorry if I missed it but did any of the PHJB members play at all during the main set with Jim, Ben and Daniel?
I don't believed they did...I could see them on the side stage now and then, hoping they would, but it never happened. I think it would have been nice to hear some horns with "Electrified." That song was rockin' and I would love to hear MMJ try it out.
QuoteQuoteI wonder if anyone taped this show? Anyone?
i have been wondering the same thing since friday. keep checking the boards but nothing so far. security was crazy about taking pics or vid of any kind (with the exception of the guy to my right who had a pretty serious camera & was never approached by security. press pass maybe?)
but i would be so psyched if someone pulled it off & shares with us.
was he kind of short & stocky with long hair & beard? I was right next to a guy like that with a nice camera & pass
QuoteQuoteI must say that Preservation Hall Jazz Band was the best opener I have ever experienced and it set the mood for the entire night.
When I finaly realized what I was hearing I do believe my heart stopped. I would have never expected this...and the style JJ sung it was perfect. Wow :D
QuoteWow...my eyes are still red and my face is beginning to go back on...and it's been 2 days since the Appalachian Voices show.

Fantastic review Bigsky! :) As lynzzz posted in the Charlottesville thread, Ben Sollee really reminds me of Paul Simon kickin' all sorts of ass on the cello. He was quite the revelation for me seeing him live.
