Has anyone been to this venue?  I just know that it is right by the aquarium.  Is it general admission or reserved seating?  How big is it, etc.?

It's an outdoor amphitheater with seats on the floor and bleachers/risers in the back. Holds about 7 or 8,000.  I've only ever been to a seated show there (Allmans/Ratdog) but I understand there are GA shows there too.

The sound is decent and it can be a really nice place to see a show in the summer...fingers crossed for a nice lake breeze!

I was at a show where the "Floor" was general admission and the bleacher seats behind and on the sides were reserved.  The breeze from the lake is key in Mid-August, but really just having a show within driving distance is enough for me. ;)

I have three traveling weekend music trips this summer and the thing I'm most looking forward to....driving from St. Louis on tues, concert and driving back on wed. :D

Was there last year and I enjoyed it very much.  The show I was at was not General Admission but I thought the sound was nice and liked that it was a smaller amphitheater.  Beautiful views of Lake Michigan!

Looks like this one will be GA floor since that's what the seating chart defaults to on Ticketmaster.

I was at GA Nine Inch Nails show at Charter One last May and I thought the venue was great. Good sound and location.

Also, I noticed that LiveNation has a a "no service fees" promotion going on and Charter One and MMJ appear to qualify. Just a heads up, might save you a few bucks over ticketmaster.

It's child abuse to leave your baby at home sleeping by itself, but for a Jacket show you do whatever is necessary. ;D   Here are some pictures of the venue:

You can add me to the roll call.  Just finally decided last night to meet some friends up there for the concert.  The three hour drive home after the show is going to suck, but hopefully the adrenaline from an amazing experience will get me home in one piece.   This will be my sixth show since 2004.

I haven't seen the guys play since the day before I moved from Louisville to Chicago in August 2008. It's been a long two years for me, but my wonderful wife bought me tickets for my birthday, so I'll be there! Can't wait! (And luckily, I don't have to wait much longer.)

I figured as much, it just reminded me of a lady (friend of a friend) I know that left her child home alone in a crib while she went and got groceries.  Talk about no motherly instinct.  My wife gets to stay home with the baby and six year old tonight while I go have fun.  Thought about taking the six year old, as she's a fan, but not sure she's ready for it quite yet.

Man they treat Chi right again!  Nice little day 3 rehearsal.  When was the last time they played EMR and Rollin Back int the same night?

I was with a group of mostly casual fans and they were all blown away. We all fully expect MMJ to come back and headline a night of Lollapalooza next year.

sweet friggin setlist!

This was my second show this summer (first being Sasquatch) and my first full non-festival show since the Chicago Theater run.

Really, really awesome performance. Perhaps because I haven't seen them in a while they aren't so new, but extended breakdowns at the end of Gideon and during the tail end of Dondante were great (although it's sad it came at the expense of a very short solo from Carl). Bermuda Highway kicking off the encore was beautiful, but the real highlight of last night was Easy Morning Rebel. Absolutely killed it.

All in all, a great show with some recent setlist standby's (Evil Urges, What a Wonderful man) being omitted for some older cuts (Rollin' Back intro, Masterplan) and not one person complaining.

i think this is the best setlist so far....!! damn....

the setlists lately have been amazing. it's makin me super excited for 8/20 + 8/28 :D

Kiddin man in case ya weren't sure.  It's just that u guys got a killer setlist again.  The only recordings that haven't popped up from recent shoes were the Chi shows of late '08.  We've all been cravin 'em

Nothing will ever top the first time I saw MMJ in a club with about 500 people in 2004, when they blew all of my expectations out of the water.  However, of the six shows I've seen, this is a close second.  Best setlist of all of them, and Jim's voice was absolutely perfect.  Show lasted 2 hr and 20+ minutes, and it was jam packed.  Very little banter, a very short encore break and many of the songs blended together with little or no time in between.  

-To end the set it was a full Smokin into the breakdown and finish of Run Thru, then a full Touch Me 2.  At the end of this, the scream and "All right, now what?" kept repeating as the fellas congregated at the drums and started rocking out again.  Surprisingly, they went right into the guitar jam and finish of Laylow.  Awesomeness.  Wish we could have gotten a full Run Thru, but just including the jam of Laylow was the perfect touch to end the main set.
-Loved the extra jam at the end of Gideon and the new Dondante as well.
-I'm Amazed seemed to have some extra crunch to it, liked it.
-First time hearing Rebel and Masterplan and they didn't disappoint.
-During Califone we were off to the side, fairly close to the stage.  I could tell the sound was off, so we walked closer to the middle and it made all the difference in the world.  We weren't quite as close for the Jacket, but we could hear the mix much better.  Best decision we made all night.

MMJ, thank you for another great night with the most transcendent live band around.

Well I hope one shows up.  Took my girlfriend to her first MMJ show last night and she was blown away.  Was hoping to get her (and myself, of course) a copy to tide her over until the Louisville show.  October 29th can't get here soon enough!

There was one taper that I saw right in front of the soundboard.

This was my 10th MMJ show.  Amazing setlist.  Kind of dug the new stuff.  Wish I was up on the rail with Alady but we were in a VIP box and kind of got to Charter One late.  Great venue.  Really nice sound mix.  Pretty loud.  The arrangements were pretty different than the last time I saw them.  Hard to describe what the difference was.  Different jams too.
What a band!

I thought I saw one taper set up by the soundboard but I am not sure if it was actually part of the soundboard setup or not.  I was close to the stage so I really couldn't get a good look back there.

AMEN, Kyle.  That's why I have high hopes for August and, especially, the Portland show, 4 days prior to T5, as the ultimate rehearsal for some of them dusty tunes, and perhaps some new ones yet to see the light of day.  

Saw Bermuda Highway, Rebel, and Steam Engine for the first time. Dondonte was amazing. The end of set run starting with Smokin was incredible. Amazing show!

Alright, somebody else read this just so I'm not the only person who thinks this is one of the worst reviews they've ever read.

I think some of what he was trying to say was not far off, it was just so horribly written that it practically made no point at all.

I don't think its too horrible either.  The "innately conservative" thing is a little odd.  Also, the question of "whats next" shouldn't be an issue.  The show was incredible and I never found myself asking "whats next".  I guess maybe I was just too caught up "in the moment"

ok guys i dont mean to be this guy, but i guess i'm gonna have to do it...

they ended about 10:40. one of the girls i was with got the setlist (and one got a drumstick, but thats besides the point), they ran???? was at the bottom again. they had plenty of time to play it. ALSO, playing end of run thru is expected, but playing only part of 3 songs? i feel like we shouldve gotten all of lay low... HOWEVER, Bermuda Highway, Masterplan, Dancefloors, Steam Engine made up for that.

Sound isn't the best...but it's the token Chicago version of Circuital !!

I understand your frustration, I feel your pain, but you got a top notch setlist there.  Thar she blows!  The White Whale!  Again she eludes me.  Perhaps tomorrow, she'll be mine!  Perhaps...

TMIGTS2 Into Lay Low was pretty fucking epic!  :)

I swear it seems like every time they play an epic show it starts pouring, it's no coincidence.

Very cool and Rollin Back was perfect to come off it.

I asked this question a couple of pages back and will shamelessly bump this thread.  I need to find out this song...it was so beautiful!  Does anybody have a recording of the concert?  I can Shazam it!
