I'm looking forward to meeting some forum members.
I made the St. Augie show but missed out on the pre/post show festivities, due to some unplanned family biz.
Met some great fans at MPP though and hopefully more in Vermont.

WOO-HOO!!!
it'd be cool to do a tailgate meetup thingie (similar to what we did @ mpp, only it prob won't measure up to jdbartender's - that was quite the setup!). it was lots o' fun meeting those that i met & would be fantastic to meet some more good people from here. johnnYY - the man, the myth, the legend...
Definitely!! Where has JD been? -- we will be up in their neck of the woods, so hoping they will show up! That was super cool!
Also looking forward to meeting new friends who "get it" like we do ;)
Is little sis coming up??
i was thinking the same thing about jd, he's not far at all... not seen much of him around here since just after mpp tho. ?
lil sis isn't 100% on this one yet. she def wants to come but isn't sure if her schedule is all clear. i'm crossing my fingers - she's an awesome p.i.c. (partner in crime) & had a truly amazing time @ mpp.
getting to meet some new peeps who "get it" will be super cool!

UPDATE: lil sis in is! woo-hoo!!! and she is "willing to camp. but it better not rain." :-? AND she's been listening to okonokos lots since mpp & sent me a random text one night something along the lines of "omg, dondante... awesome! INSANE jam @ the end!"
also thought this was kinda funny:
i was hanging out with my dad yesterday & asked him if i can borrow a tent for the upcoming show. he got real serious & was like, "i don't like the idea of the two of you up there by yourselves like that. those campgrounds... all sorts of people go there. a lot of times, you get the dregs of society, those so-called hippies with their drugs etcetera." (he's saying this to me, 34 years old, as i'm sitting there sporting a grateful dead tee, peasant skirt & sandals. i may as well have had a joint hanging out of my mouth)
i replied, "really? this, coming from the guy who took his wife & 3 young daughters on a camping trip out west one summer where we spent most nights in such campgrounds??? the very same guy who gave a ride to a hitch-hiking hippy somewhere along our journey - with all of us in the stagon wagon!!!"
the conversation continued & at one point it went into the type of music mmj plays & i mentioned that they have a wide array of influences, including folk music other good stuff & next thing i know, he's cuing up harry nilsson's "everybody's talking" on the stereo and i was like, "dad! they have covered this song. see... good stuff." so we had a good laugh over that. and then when i was leaving later that evening he said, "well, i think you made some good points about this concert/camping thing. you can borrow the tent."
i think i might try to introduce some mmj to pops 8-)
Love that story!
Yay, lis Sis is in! I will surely bring some of that Roselle Park IPA for her!!!
ynwa: nice story about pops!
No camping for these bones though. Unless I can find a cabin and a bed! ;D
I'm probably going to end up in Burlington/S. Burlington...but looking forward to a pre/post show meetup.

I hear ya! Kinda on the fence with the camping!! But will surely pre-post party with everyone!
I'm looking at the Sheraton in Burlington. $139.00 for Friday night.
Most hotels in the area are running around that, and higher. This one looks pretty nice and is about 6 miles from Essex Jct.... less than a 15 minute ride.
I don't mind a little drive, but that'll put the kabosh on any pre show partying for me. I'm looking into cab costs next. ;)

Wow.....139 is not too bad compared to what i have been seeing.....we will probably book something soon, so when we do i will post and we can see about carpooling etc....
I gotta think you can Priceline or Hotwire a room for half that.
QuoteI gotta think you can Priceline or Hotwire a room for half that.
I definitely agree with you, but there's only a couple of hotels up there that I'd want to stay at. Most of the ones I read up on don't really appeal to me.
Any suggestions on how to assure I get one of the two or three places I'd like through Priceline or Hotwire?
Thanks.
Here's a trick someone told me a while back:
- find the hotel you want on Expedia, and make note of the exact location and star level
- search Hotwire for a hotel in the same location with the same star level (Expedia owns Hotwire, so their star ratings are the same).
- bid about half the rate given on Expedia
This works most of the time, but depends a bit on how large the "target area" is on Hotwire...in a large urban center, there are a lot more hotels per square mile, so if you're looking for a 3.5 star hotel there could be 20 options within the given area. But for Essex Junction, there are only three 3.5 star hotels listed with availability for the 20th...if you're cool staying at either the Sheraton, Doubletree or Hilton, you should be golden.
If you don't get the price you want the first time around, I think you can try again the next day...go up $5 or $10 at a time until they accept the bid. Ultimately it should still end up being a lot less than full price.
Good luck! :)
Thanks ALady :-*
I'll give it a go and report back.
No luck today on my bid. I went about $5.00 more than 1/2 the median price for 3 - 3.5 star rooms. They would've let me put in another bid today if I was willing to increase my bid by $19.00.
I figure I'll try again tomorrow and increase my bid by $5.00 a day.

thanks for the info!!!!!
Y'all, my bad. I got the instructions completely messed up. :-[
The Expedia/Hotwire thing works for locating a (pricier) Expedia hotel on the (cheaper) Hotwire site. However (and this is a big duhhh on my part) Hotwire isn't a bidding site. :-[ I just checked Hotwire for Essex Junction and their prices aren't much better than Expedia's.
Here are the corrected instructions, which should work within Priceline - no second "reference" site required. Sorry guys! :-[
- Using the regular search function, search Priceline for your hotel, and make note of the exact location, star level, and price.
- Then, go back and use the "Name Your Own Price" feature to search Priceline for a hotel in the same location with the same star level
- bid about half the rate you found in your initial search
Doh! ;D
no worries, ALady!
i was looking into camping because of the pricing on hotels in the area. but, to be honest, if i can get a good rate @ a hotel i'd much rather do that. not that camping isn't fun, but, driving 5 hrs up there the day of the show & then having to set up camp before heading over might be a serious p.i.t.a.
so... thank you very much for the tip!
No luck again today with Priceline.
I was trying for 3+ star hotels in Burlington. I bid $10.00 higher than yesterday, but skunked again!
I'll just try a little higher tomorrow, and each day until they come through.
ok, so i tried the priceline thingie and my bid of a little over 1/2 was rejected. it said if i wanted to try again immediately, i could add on another $20 & see. but i decided not to bother because i really don't handle rejection well and ran away, crying, from my computer ;)
actually, i'd looked into a hotel a couple weeks ago & their price was a tad lower than anything i've seen on priceline & the like. so i called & they still have rooms available for that weekend. this hotel is only 1 mile from the venue!!!
i spoke with the manager, CHRISTINA, & she was super DUPER nice! she gave me a 10% "1st time customer" discount. (they also offer a 10% discount to AAA and AARP members...) so i got a room for $138/night. i asked her if i could mention on here about the "1st time customer" discount & she said it was fine, just make sure you ask for her when you call & also to please not smoke dope in the rooms (they had a problem w/ some phish phans apparently). she also asked what band i was coming to see & had never heard of mmj, but i kinda described them & she said it sounds like something she'd like & will probably check them out :)
anyway, it's an all suite hotel. i got a queen suite which has 2 separate large rooms. the bedroom has 1 queen sized bed. there is also a pull-out sofa in the living room. complimentary breakfast is included. so, that's my accomodation sorted. if anyone is interested in joining me & sis in a room share - PM me.
here's a link if you want to check it out:

I'll be there- with bells on!
Finally got a bid accepted on Priceline! ;D
I bid $100.00 for a 3 star room in Burlington. with fees and tax it came out to $118.82. I ended up getting a room at the Sheraton Burlington Hotel And Conference Center, which is where I was originally looking to stay. Pretty lucky, and saved some cash too.
Thanks for the help, ALady, and if we ever meet at show, I owe you a beverage of your choice.
Cool, glad it finally worked eric! Every dollar saved is a dollar toward the next show... ;) ;D
You have know idea how bad I want to go to this... I am originally from Vermont, and all my family and friends are up there. But here is the thing... My wife is due with my first son on August 14th... My only hope is that she is like 2 weeks early and that we travel up to VT to show off the baby the weekend of the 20th... Than maybe, just maybe, I can pull it off.
Who am I kidding :'(

Hey folks. Decided to stay overnight after the show and found what looks like a good deal.
Handy Suites in Essex Junction (27 Susie Wilson Road) is 1.5 miles from the venue (105 Pearl Street). All rooms are suites w/kitchen, and I got a queen suite for Friday night for a total of $104.88 through Expedia.
Other places in the area are sold out and those that aren't are much more expensive. There might be camping on the fairgrounds, but I haven't been able to reach anyone there by phone or email successfully.
The reviews and ratings for this place aren't bad, in fact quite good. I'm surprised it still had rooms available. Check it out.

Very cool!! Getting super psyched for this!
I think YNWA is staying there as well!
So, we went and checked on the venue before a sick reggae show at Jazz Fest. It is the epitome of fairgrounds with chain link fences, 4-H barns and massive outdoor stands that I believe are on the seating chart. Although we didn't speak to anyone, there was no tree lined grove in sight, nor one being worked upon (which is where the show is rumored to take place). It could be tucked somewhere, but you could basically see the entire site. There are only two exits, so plan on tailgating. We saw tons of space for camping and tailgating, but I don't think they are offering. Plenty of services outside the gates and the closest hotel we could find is the Fairfield at I-89 and Vermont 2A. Regardless, can't wait for this show!!! I presume Grace Potter will be opening if she isn't booked, its her home town for chissake!

Anyone get a sense of tailgating options? I'm thinking about getting there early, checking in at my hotel, then walking to the show (1.2 miles means 15-30 min. walk). Otherwise, we had a real nice pre-show gathering in a bar before Birmingham and Nashville, so that's an option (not a bar in Birmingham or Nashville, of course ;)). I'm wondering if there's a decent watering hole along the route. Granted, tailgating is cheaper. Who's been here for a show before?
Never been to the area, and down for either option! We are also driving up that day, checking in and heading over. We will be driving over (hubby is sober) so will be happy to pick up others who might need or want a ride.
We can pack a big old cooler with beers and sandwiches and snacks etc. Granted, it wont be a JDbartender totally hooked up tailgate, but it could still be pretty sweet. OR we can do the bar if there is one :) We are totally flexible.

I'll be driving in from the Albany area, staying at my roommate's parents' place (which is a short walk from the venue!). Last time I was in Essex Junction, we walked to a bar/restaurant nicknamed The Linc or something like that. The pint glass I stole had Abe Lincoln's face on it. However, I think they have changed names recently, according to my roommate. But anyways, that place should be within walking distance of the venue. We were planning on going there after the show. They usually have live music, and they have Guinness on tap. :) I'll let you know if I find out the address and stuff.
Well derp. A quick look at google maps shows the 'lincoln inn' to be 0.9 miles down the road from the expo. I will be with a group of friends so i'm not sure if I can go there pre-show, but I should be popping in there post. Let me know if you guys think of other places to hang out.

we are aiming to be northbound by about 10am the latest....i will txt you when we get on the road. have to drop off the little one with my parents "down the shore" first. Looks like it will take about 6 hours, so we should get there on time for check in (at the Doubletree Burlington)
Also, for you - and others travelling from the south -- ericm sent me this note
<I was checking routes to VT, and saw an alert about a bridge closure. It's the Lake Champlain/Crown Point Bridge which spans the lake between Crown Point, N.Y. and Chimney Point, VT.>
Not sure if this affects us or not but wanted to share the valuable info. Thanks eric!
that bridge (or lack there of ;)) is pretty damn far up north. unless you were planning on driving up 87 really far and then crossing into vt, that wont be a problem. i usually get over into vt south of the lake and take 22a up thru vermont. it is a pretty ride. however, if you are feeling adventurous, and the weather is nice, there are 3 or 4 spots along lake champlain that you could cross on the ferry. its kinda pricey, and slow, but it's pretty cool.
hey everyone,
first time post-er, long time lurker
I'm heading up Friday mid morning.
just got a hotel room for 95$ on priceline for sheraton in s. burlington, usually 160$ so that was good.
hoping to hit up Magic Hat in the afternoon for a few, please let me know if you find a bar you're hitting up as my two buddies and I would love to join.
also 25$ tix on ticketmaster currently for the thurs Tom Petty show, not too shabby
i think the plan is to get on the road 9/9:30 - yup it's about 6 hr drive or thereabouts. we are staying @ the handy suites which, i'm told, is less than a mile from the venue. if people want, we could use it as an initial meet up point & figure out cars etc from there? just a thought...
plotting the travel route now, don't think that bridge will be a problem, but the heads up is much appreciated. there's a few different routes we can do, will let you know what we decide.

I didn't know where exactly that bridge was, but it came up as a travel alert when I was checking routes through AAA.
I'll be coming up from Jersey and crossing into VT south of the lake also, around Glens Falls and then 4 to 22A.
I looked into the Port Kent - Burlington Ferry but it seemed like a longer route, plus it's $17.00 each way, and then with my luck I'd hit a delay and get there late for the ferry. ;)
It won't be long now!!
Quotehey everyone,
first time post-er, long time lurker
I'm heading up Friday mid morning.
just got a hotel room for 95$ on priceline for sheraton in s. burlington, usually 160$ so that was good.
hoping to hit up Magic Hat in the afternoon for a few, please let me know if you find a bar you're hitting up as my two buddies and I would love to join.
also 25$ tix on ticketmaster currently for the thurs Tom Petty show, not too shabby
Welcome!
I'm staying at the Sheraton also. I hope to arrive there around 3:00 - 3:30. I'll have some cold ones in the cooler, so maybe we can toss one back before heading to Essex Jct.
I was probably going to cab it from there to and from the show. It's about 5.5 miles away and maybe a 10 minute cab ride. After the ride up from Jersey, I'm not going to want to do any more driving. Plus then I can enjoy some pre/post show partying! 8-)
Quotethat bridge (or lack there of ;)) is pretty damn far up north. unless you were planning on driving up 87 really far and then crossing into vt, that wont be a problem. i usually get over into vt south of the lake and take 22a up thru vermont. it is a pretty ride. however, if you are feeling adventurous, and the weather is nice, there are 3 or 4 spots along lake champlain that you could cross on the ferry. its kinda pricey, and slow, but it's pretty cool.
Thanks for the heads up on that Joey!
Welcome Beckstp1! Looking forward to meeting ya and good job on the hotel deal. Can't believe Petty tix are going for so cheap! I paid full price (like 50 or 60 ) for awful seats! I will tell some friends that were thinking about going though.
ynwa- I think the pre-meet up at Handy sounds good, and we will caravan over from there. We will have to come up with something so people know how to locate us! I know I am not as creative as bluesky and her flag, but we can pull something off!
thanks for the welcome.
we're planning on cabbing it from the hotel to the venue as well.
sadly I can't hit up the holyoke show but already snagged my tickets to the portland show in Oct.
I think this'll be my 9th or 10th show. can't wait to hear some of the older, rarely played stuff, gearing up for the NYC shows.
got lucky following PJ around the east coast back in 06 when MMJ opened each night, got in to them then, and have been hooked ever since.

Welcome to the rest of your life, Matt. :) :)

Hey now! I'll also be at the Handy Suites, which is probably the closest hotel to the venue. The address is 27 Susie Wilson Rd., Essex Jct., VT. I hope to be there and checked in between 3 and 4 pm.
Come by for some Omnichord MMJ covers on a Jim James-signed OM-84 before we head out for some tailgating!

i wish i possessed the skills to make a flag for this gathering. however, i think johnnYYac's omnichord stylings will be an excellent beacon :)
tdb - i think sis & i are taking the same route as joey & eric. it looks to be the most direct. we'll be in touch with departure times etc.
i'm trying to find out if anyone i know has ever been to this venue & if so, what to expect for parking/tailgating as well as the situation once inside. and also if they can recommend a good bar for afterwards (although i'm totally down w/ a dive bar where guinness is served in abe lincoln pint glasses)
really looking forward to meeting some new faces & reuniting with some familiar ones as well. i think this is going to be one helluva good time!!!

that's the same route i'll be taking from albany.
and yeah, the ferry is pricey. i usually take the essex-charlotte ferry simply because the lake isn't as wide there so the time lost isn't as bad as the burlington one. plus more people use the burlington one so chances of the boat being filled up before you get on it are higher. but yeah, unless you are on a lazy sunny sunday drive, avoid it.
friday is almost here!

Any idea how long you think it will take to Burlington from the Albany area of 87?
I've always taken 87 - 4,into Rutland, but haven't been to Burlington, so I've never been on 22A.
Thanks.
It should take no more than 3 hours. 22A usually has virtually no traffic and it is one of those 55mph country routes than you can usually get away with going 65 on pretty safely. Last time I made the trip it took me about 2:45, maybe even a bit less.
And if anyone was wondering, getting off 87 near Glens Falls is much better than waiting a few more exits to Lake George (like google maps usually tells you to do). The LG route takes you right thru their outlet store region and that gets PACKED during the summer months.
Grace Potter for you guys too!
QuoteGrace Potter for you guys too!
bonus..she is simply divine
edit: would LOVE to hear "gold dust woman" with her & the boys....chillz

If you ever need any info on driving around the Jersey Shore, I'll be glad to return the favor.
Looks like the weather is going to be great. Sunny, mid-70's during the day.
Temps will drop to upper 50's low 60's Friday night.
Sounds like a much needed break from all the heat and humidity we've been getting this Summer.
Safe travels everyone.

Sweet! Thanks, man. I hadn't checked it out yet.
I've really lucked out with weather at shows this year. Atlanta in April, Newport Folk last month, this and the Saturday Petty show all look like perfect sunny daze.
Reminds me of a Grateful Dead show in Saratoga Springs in 1986. It was cloudy and drizzly the whole drive there. As soon as Jerry played, the skies parted and a beautiful moon stayed until the last tune. Then the skies closed up and it rained on our way out.

This sounds perfect!
Going to check out Grace Potter & The Nocturnals tomorrow nite for a free show in the city. Lucky me, I won passes to a performance for the pbs show "live from the artist's den."
Anyway, so glad to hear this wonderful forecast....perfect dancing weather!
:D :D
I may have an extra ticket for Saturday's MMJ/Petty show and Wednesday's MMJ show in Holyoke. If so, I'll bring them with me to Essex Jct. tomorrow.
PM or email if you know now you're interested.
See you tomorrow!!! Very excited, especially since next Wednesday isnt' happening for me. I hope to be at my hotel by 3 or 4 pm.
Handy Suites. Look for this car or ask the front desk for John Yacopucci. I may be in the parking lot jamming with my 'chord!

My +1 might have to bail on the show. The woman who was going to cover her shift has been out sick for most of the week, and I've got a feeling she won't be showing up tomorrow either. >:(
I'll be there come hell or high water though! ;)
Is there a place confirmed for the pre show get together?

I got the impression we were talking pre-show tailgate and post-show bar (Lincoln Inn or something).
Yes...we will meet up at the handy inn and/or the lot. We will take our truck over to the lot for anyone who needs a ride....we have a gray 4runner with a mmj owl sticker and jersey plates......yahoooooooooey.
Just back from the grace potter show and we are sure in for a treat tomorrow nite! They were fantastic!! (it's me trish on bobs acct)

GPN & MMJ = Best Rock Bands in America more people should see.
This a tremendous double bill! Don't linger in the parking lot! I wish they would tour together.
Woohoo!!
It's been almost four months since my last Live Jacket fix. Today's the day. ;D ;D
Next stop = S. Burlington, VT. - Essex Jct VT.
See you there and safe travels everyone.
So I haven't seen mmj since the MSG show a while back. It's been far, FAR too long. A slight hitch in my pre-show plans has come up, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to catch you all for a pre-show tailgate. BUT I will be there when gates open so I'm sure I'll see some of you then (and during the show and post). I'll have my bright green bob's bait concert-going shirt on. As ericm said, safe travels everyone, see you there!
suuuuper duuuuper excited about this! looking foward to an intro to grace potter & then my most favorite, and greatest band in THE whole wide world... MMJ :D
see y'all later @ handy suites, venue lot & hopefully afters @ the lincoln inn. is vermont ready this??? :D :D :D

hey lady! thanks for taking me to Grace Potter last night!
she's hot! i think i have a bigger crush on her now than i have on YY.
you and bob have a great trip!!!
I am going to be in pain tonight...I will be in VT at my parent's place, but I can't go to the show. So close, but yet so far away...It's like being in a candy store and having your tongue cut off. :'(
Anyways...as JJ would say...

Everyone is welcome to meet up @ Handy Suites. Sis is driving to venue & we have room if ppl need a lift. PM me & i'll give u my cell so we can coordinate.
Umm, Canadian MMJ fans, i hear there's a whole bunch of you staying here as well. Give us a shout!
See y'all soon!!!!

saw joey rogo. he got a great birthday gift with this show.
got Kyle a poster (and one for me, and one for tbd810 and 8bobbyb, and ericm). I'll try to post a picture. Kyle, maybe you could post the one I sent you.
I'm being rude to my guests, so more later.
HONEST MAN!!!! Holy fuck! It was mindblowing!
And, not just because I've been chasing live Steam Engine for two years, it was THE BEST STEAM ENGINE known to human ears. I stand by this statement and pray for a recording to emerge so you will all know what I know.
OK, really, I'm done. G'night.
Kick ass JY! Congrats to you on Steam! [smiley=beer.gif] I will go to bed with smiles tonight!
HONEST FUCKING MAN!!!!!?/???????!?1?1?1?1?1?!?1??ffffuuhhhhhhh1/1//1/1/1/1/1/1
Holy shit. That setlist is RIDICULOUS.
And, no lie, an extended Good Intentions into Lay Low jam. You heard me right. At least, that's what I'm calling it. "Okay, cool." was played twice during a crazy jam that bled into Lay Low.
Not a bad crowd. We were 2nd or 3rd from the rail. Trish (tbd810) let me switch with her to get closer to the Omnichord during Touch Me 2, and there I remained for an epic Steam Engine.
Thanks, Liz and Laura, for the ride to the show and good company. Bob, Trish, and Eric for the sandwich, beer, and poster tube rental. These are GOOD people!
But seriously, I gotta go to bed. Got another show tomorrow night and 5-6 hours of driving to get me there.
Sounds like another epic show in the books...John, I prayed last night before I went to bed that they would play steam engine. (dead serious). I'm glad my prayer was answered. These setlists are gettting better by the day. It's times like these I wish I was from the north.
JY - SO SO happy to got some variation in your setlists after your April road-trip. That was such the exception.
Honest Man -are you kidding me!? Love that they are busting out randoms - can't wait for Holyoke.
Here's the poster- a real favorite: (If you end up with an extra I know someone else who already wants one)

also to hear more circuital reviews - as seeing it live Thurs I'm definitely a fan. Now I WANTED to like it so bad, as I'm hoping with all might that the next album is up my alley. But, it sure has the feel of a keeper.
Sounds like, once again, they are guilty of tearing it the eff up!!!
QuoteSounds like, once again, they are guilty of tearing it the eff up!!!
Damn them. I really hate it when they do this! ;D ;) 8-)
Seriously. Sounds like a good time was had in VT! What a setlist! Less than a week until Pittsburgh and I can't f'ing wait!!!
I thought about everyone in VT as my wife and I jammed to MMJ last night and thought about how a week from now we would be in their presence! 8-) It's going to be a loooong week! :D
I have been dying to hear Honest Man for years now! I hope they break it out again in Philly. Their setlists right now have been absolutely killer!I hope someone taped this show.
How was the VT girl, Grace Potter? Did she ever sit in?
And yes, hope this show ends up on archive.org
Got to make this quick; heading to Mansifield for MMJ/Petty.
Didn't see tell-tale signs of tapers, and I've seen some Grace Potter recordings on bt.etree.org so she seems taper-friendly, too. Let's hope I'm wrong.
Grace was hot, musically, vocally (unreal strength to her voice), and physically (not much leg though; long dress). No cross-pollination between her and the Jacket.
Gotta go. Later...
The night was Wonderful. Great music and great people. Setlist was awesome.

Circuital was fucking awesome! I'm glad I held off listening to it before the show- just made it that much more spectacular... Only shitty part of the show- dude next to us who caught a setlis, shoved it in his pockett- then stood around and got another one... Didn't say anything to anyone but whispered to his wife/girlfriend I got two setlists! Share the wealth yo!
I agree. People should share the wealth. Especially if they've already caught picks, drumsticks or setlists.

oh my goodness girl, it was crazy...i was about to melt into a puddle..for sure
dont know if he remembered the hat but bob was making sure it was prominently placed :) i have more pics, need to post em...
awesome. fucking. weekend.
lil sis & i had decided to make it a full weekend trip to VT. got home a few hrs ago & i wanted to post a few pics but i'm having technical difficulties. and, i'm very sleepy so it's not gonna happen today...
but, i will tease :P
if you were there - you know we got a kick ass show. and for those that were not there - just check the setlist & then factor in how fucking awesome mmj are live... i needn't say more. but... honest man!!! seriously!!!!! :D holy shit, holy shit, holy shit!!! (i may have been saying this out loud @ the show & for anyone around me, i apol-O-gize)
met & hung w/ the famous johnnYYac; trish & bob (3rd show w/ the dynamic duo) & ericw in the lot. hung w/ some "lurkers" in the beer garden & then joey & his bright green shirt were in front of me @ the rail. good, fun people!
so yeah, show - there are no words...
post show awesomeness??? why yes, there was. i got one of patrick's drumsticks!!! it was tossed into the small gathering of stragglers & took a couple deflections before landing right at my feet :)
shortly after that, carl's setlist was tossed out & via a smidge of crowd calamity as well as being helped along by air currents - it too landed, AT MY FEET, just on the other side of the barrier fence thingie :) :) (double rainbow!)
but before anyone calls me greedy, i gave the setlist to lil sis. honestly, i did debate for a few seconds on which to keep. but, see, a few yrs ago @ another show (bloc party) i caught a drumstick, ala robert deniro in awakenings (i kid you not), so i figured that a 2nd drumstick can't just be a mere coincidence. right??? it's gotta be a sign. there's something about me & drumsticks. i'm not sure what it means yet, but i am going with it for now, quite happliy.
so, yeah, i mentioned above that lil sis & i had decided to make a full weekend out of the trip & thanks to a tip from trish we decided to check out a street fair in burlington on sat. first thing that caught my attention was this band playing under a tent in the park. they were really jazzy. new orleans style jazz. not as big or elaborate as PHJB but, of similar style & they said they're from NOLA too so... anyway, i took vid but it's really shaky plus i'm having technical difficulties uploading to my laptop so, not now.
then, we walked around a bit & came upon a mom & pop record store on one of the side streets which just so happened to have a kick ASS poster (artwork by clinton reno) in the window advertising the mmj show. of course there was the "BE RIGHT BACK" index card taped to the door, so, we waited. and... i am now the proud owner of said poster!!! so, ok, from a collector's point of view it's crap. one of the employees has written "with grace potter and the nocturnals" with a sharpie rather largely on this poster. but the dude sold it to me for $7 & i'm not really a collector by any means so, i'm a happy camper.
(seriously, wtf is happening this weekend & i mean that in such a good way)
we ended the day with a trip to the lincoln inn in attempt to procure a few of the aforementioned pint glasses (see previous posts) for ourselves, trish & bob. but alas, the bartender said she hadn't seen one in quite some time. oh well. perhaps it was pushing it to think that this too would fall into place.
as far as i'm concerned - the stars aligned for me more than i possibly could ever have imagined in my wildest dreams this weekend. i knew i loved vermont before. i "attended" freshman year of college up that way & it was a great year & without meaning to sound corny, i truly felt at home up there that year. so when when this show was announced i didn't really need any convincing to make the trip up. and now, reflecting on the spoils of my weekend, i'm thinking i should seriously consider moving up there :-?
that is all. goodnight!
awesome Liz, just awesome!!!!!!!!
*sigh*
QuoteI have been dying to hear Honest Man for years now! I hope they break it out again in Philly. Their setlists right now have been absolutely killer!I hope someone taped this show.
THAT'S MY THOUGHT EXACTLY!!!!! I saw it on tdb's facebook pics (the setlist one) and I can't believe they busted that out. My excitement for next week's show just multiplied 100x.
Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiite.
Rolling Back intro was SUCH a tease. Gawddamn!!! Great show thru and through. New song and Carl's song (real nice surprise) were brilliant.
i have been in a daze since gates opened on friday. johnny, bob, trish, liz, eric, and anyone i may be forgetting (sorry!)... you guys are awesome. i feel bad that i wasn't able to spend more time with you all post show. i'll make up for that in nyc. also, sorry if i gave bad traffic advice... i've never seen 22a so crowded!
anyways...the show. it was epic. there was NOBODY there when gates opened and even during grace's set (which was awesome btw), there weren't many people there. i was on the rail with my buddy alex just to the right of jim's mic. that was my first time on the rail for any show, let alone mmj. the guys came out and jim started dancing with his guitar. i knew it would be a good night. the energy was awesome coming from the band. i love it when jim walks to edge of the stage and looks at the crowd with the biggest grin on his face. you could tell he was having so much fun up there. the setlist was great. mahgeetah was a rocker as usual. it took me about 10 seconds to realize what i was hearing when they started playing honest man. my reaction was super late and the people around me probly thought i was crazy. o well. honest man rocked so hard. i was also happy to see the band use literally all the time they were allotted. also, tuna, the security guard by us on the rail was a totally cool dude.
the burlington area is amazing. my friend and i went out saturday night and i didn't get to bed until the sun was almost ready to rise. it was a great time and i met so many awesome people. perfect way to spend my bday weekend! see you guys at the next one!
Ditto Joey!!!!!
Check out the photos under the other thread!! What a nite, what a nite!
So, real quick as I am working between MMJ gigs this week, but what an amazing show! Only second to RCMH for me, but seriously an Honest Man was not expected although hoping for a P double W, the Honesty will suffice.
Highlights were Grace, the location and vibes, band and fan energy, low attendance, heady medical strains, Steam, Honest and all the neat stuff like intro and outros.
The one lowlight...I was rocking out so hard to Gideon that I did some major damage to my left foot. But, I stuck with it with no first aid whatsoever and stayed for the remainder of the show it was that good. I wasn't about to yank my buddies out of the show just to babysit me. So, on my way to the doctor for exam, wasn't going to pay emegency room rates. But, I am thinking its a torn tendon (near my ankle, that extends to the toes) but not broken, we shall see. Not that anyone cares, but I will keep you posted as I am dead set on attending Holyoke regardless of the injury.

then, we walked around a bit & came upon a mom & pop record store on one of the side streets which just so happened to have a kick ASS poster (artwork by clinton reno) in the window advertising the mmj show. of course there was the "BE RIGHT BACK" index card taped to the door, so, we waited. and... i am now the proud owner of said poster!!! so, ok, from a collector's point of view it's crap. one of the employees has written "with grace potter and the nocturnals" with a sharpie rather largely on this poster. but the dude sold it to me for $7 & i'm not really a collector by any means so, i'm a happy camper.
(seriously, wtf is happening this weekend & i mean that in such a good way)
we ended the day with a trip to the lincoln inn in attempt to procure a few of the aforementioned pint glasses (see previous posts) for ourselves, trish & bob. but alas, the bartender said she hadn't seen one in quite some time. oh well. perhaps it was pushing it to think that this too would fall into place.
as far as i'm concerned - the stars aligned for me more than i possibly could ever have imagined in my wildest dreams this weekend. i knew i loved vermont before. i "attended" freshman year of college up that way & it was a great year & without meaning to sound corny, i truly felt at home up there that year. so when when this show was announced i didn't really need any convincing to make the trip up. and now, reflecting on the spoils of my weekend, i'm thinking i should seriously consider moving up there :-?
that is all. goodnight!
alsum, Liz!! glad you and sis had so much fun. sounds like VT suits you!
I can't add much to all the rave reviews of this show. It was one I'll remember for a long, long, time! I enjoyed the venue and the small but rocking crowd! Only downer was the no tailgating, but at least the beer inside didn't cost an arm and a leg like most places.
I had a blast and it was great to meet so many wonderful people from this forum. Trish, Bob, JohnnYYac,Liz and her sis, Joey Rogo and a few lurkers. As JohnnYYac said " these are some great people"! Looking forward to doing it again in Philly, T5, KFC, and hopefully NYE!
A very special thanks to Trish and Bob for the ride to and from the show. 8-) I hope I can return the favor one day. ( KFC maybe?) ;)
I have to add that I was proud to see my home state of New Jersey so well represented at this show. 8-) Rock On!!
Well I had to FINALLY register instead of lurking for so long, in order to communicate the level of my experience this past Friday in Essex Junction VT. A simple and sweet outdoor venue, however zero fun in the lots which only opened 1 hour before the gates. Wife and I met tbd and her awesome crew, omnichord man JohnnyYac and other good folks. Turns out tbd and I grew up knowing the same people. I would say something like GO JERSEY but Snooky has pretty much ruined it already for everyone.
The band must have lost their shirts on this one, as hardly anyone was there. All this meant was that we could easily get right up on the rail in front of Carl and fully rock out with the boys! Now we've seen our share of epic MMJ shows, but never like this before! It was totally surreal witnessing the onslaught happening right before our eyes... so close my iphone photos even turned out good... when does THAT ever happen?
So even though I only had a few beers in the beer garden, I had a two and a half hour out of body experience due to the intense sensory overload! I almost passed out when the nearly full moon was visible up above Jim as he was divulging his heart and guts out into the mic. You couldn't have dreamed up a better concert experience.
Not to get into specifics (although I could all day), but you could tell they were rewarding the small crowd who put in the effort to get out for this one. If the setlist doesn't prove it, let's all hope that someone was there taping, and that same someone will share the goods.
Big hello to the forum crew and proud to leave my lurking days behind! See you in Holyoke...

QuoteQuoteawesome. fucking. weekend.
lil sis & i had decided to make it a full weekend trip to VT. got home a few hrs ago & i wanted to post a few pics but i'm having technical difficulties. and, i'm very sleepy so it's not gonna happen today...
but, i will tease :P
if you were there - you know we got a kick ass show. and for those that were not there - just check the setlist & then factor in how fucking awesome mmj are live... i needn't say more. but... honest man!!! seriously!!!!!

MIKE!! I am so proud of youfor leaving your lurking days behind!
Hope you guys had a great time camping! We were totally wiped out after that show - as always!
It was awesome to meet you guys! And could you tell I was a little excited aboiut Luigi's....sorry if that was a little over the top....i'm just that kinda girl! And it really is the BEST pizza around!
Welcome, and see you in Philly??
QuoteSo, real quick as I am working between MMJ gigs this week, but what an amazing show!
Awesome setlist -- but always hope for a P double W as well!
Hope your injuries aren't too serious! I had a mild case of whiplash myself! I had to hold onto my husband a couple of times for fear of crashing right through the gate -- or landing on my ass! What a fun fun nite!
Have fun at Holyoke! Will you be at Philly??

Also looking forward to meeting new friends who "get it" like we do ;)

;) Hey all! Couldn't make the Vermont show, but I will be NYC for the ISM->Z-EU run. We should do a pre-game in NYC!

Hope all is well, and we will surely do a pregame in NYC!
Take care!
Rolling Back intro was such a tease! I can't wait to hear the whole thing

Yup... My son was born on August 11th...! I got him a Phish onesie at the show in camden, and I am looking for a Jacket one if anyone knows where to get one ;D
Super pumped up about the shows in NYC! I am still high off from the MPP show, and I need another MMJ fix.
If there isn't a pregame already set up, let me know, and I will start looking around for a good bar near the terminal. If we get enough heads, we can probably get a special or something. Let me know!
Hope all is well and can't wait to see you all again!

Wished I could've met ya tdb810! I met Johnny and he said you were around. We were standing 5th row in front of Jim, so prolly right next to each other! So, its official, I have a broken foot! Now, what to do about holyoke? I get some sort of cast tomorrow before the show but I am dying to go and sit in a chair. Two things, its a 2 hour drive and my buddy is on the fence due to family emergency. Should I go or not? Regardles I have 3 tix that I will eat if I don't go. If anybody really wants to go, let me know, we can figure something out.
P double Dub next time!
Broken foot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Holy cow ! That stinks, and I am wishing you a speedy recovery! I can totally understand how that can happen at a show like Friday nite though -- I swear, I can't believe I didn't have any major self-inflicted injuries.
As for the Holyoke show...See how you do with the cast, and see how you are feeling...dont know anything at all about the venue. Maybe if you post something up on that thread, they will have some sage words of advice.
Take care, and did you see the videos that lil sis posted??? awesomeness
monkeyboy - sounds like you did do some hard core rocking out! nice job!!! and i mean that in the best way possible. sorry about the extent of your injury but i agree w/ trish - see how the cast feels.
also, i work in a physical therapy office (reception, so i'm not licensed or anything, but i do pay attention...) & with broken bones - weight bearing activities promote healing ;) you'd have been worse off w/ ligament damage.
good luck & maybe call the venue to see if they have a handicapped section. you might qualify w/ a cast...

TDB, thanks for the kind words, we shall see. Taking it day to day but will know tomorrow after the podiatrist appt. The show is a last minute decision for sure.
No, didn't catch the vids. Donde esta? Youtube? I need to relive it!

Yeah, that's a great idea thanks for the advice ynwa. I hope its only a break and not ligament damage in addition, I will find out tomorrow for sure. The x-ray was positive though. So, you say putting weight on it will help? My doc said take all the weight off and use only crutches? What the hell does he know? Damn doctors...
So, if they do have a handicap section, I am gonna get YY to sign my cast, kidding!

are you kidding me, DEF get jim to sign your cast!
maybe the non weight-bearing order is just til they rule out ligament damage... it will mostly depend on what you actually did & also how conservative your foot doc is. but in general, bone breaks do heal faster with weight-bearing activity. usually, they want you walking asap. unless you really effed yourself up that is.
be direct, tell them what your plans are/were up til this injury. i'm sure they will tell you what you
really should and should not do. hey, this is what they get paid the big bucks for, might as well pick their brain while you're there. (plus i think it gives them an ego trip ::))
best of luck!

Well, I hope its just a little break and nothing big. I am moving in 6 weeks so the timing couldn't be worse.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I called and they have a handicap section! Hopefully thats where I can be found, I highly doubt its up front. They said they have golf carts to shuttle handicap people back and forth to the lots. Its 3/4 mile to the stage from parking!
excellent! glad this is working out for you! it'd be a real bummer to miss the show. ENJOY!!!!

Def put the weight on it. I broke my leg when I was one (not that I remember it) and had a full-length cast. I wore the heel out of that damn cast running around and I think it was only on for a few weeks. Just ask ynwa...she still refers to me as "Peg Leg" here and there. ;D

oh, hello Wonder Twin! that's the same one i got from the record store in burlington the next day. isn't it sweet?! (only mine is not in as good condition ((the edges & corners are trashed & one of the employees WROTE ON IT??? >:(.)) but i still love it!!!)
...sort of the same:

see what i mean? but mine doesn't have "With Grace Potter and The Nocturnals" on the print. hence, the employee's sacreligeous scribble. the guy who was working that day was like, "my boss would totally kill him if he saw that he did this."
and i also got this after the show:
