They haven't been to Pitt since 2004. This is a great event. I will be there. I haven't been to thise venue in about 6 years. It's a great spot for an outdoor show. This was were I first saw MMJ live in 2003 opening for the Foo Fighters.
Thank you My Morning Jacket for remember Pittsburgh!!! :)
I find is hilarious, that shortly after True left, Pitt gets a date. He's been begging for a show there forever.

Why'd he leave anyway? Because he thought people were ripping on him again for the "I Am Art" quote? If I left here after Tracy made fun of me, I wouldve lasted about 3 days

Crazy they opened for the Foos, didnt know that.
I agree, I love the IC Light Amphitheater. The GA is great, but if its a big show that gets sold out, you can just stand right outside the gate and youre directly behind the stage 8-)...That place got so many great shows from like 2000-2004 or so, and I think over the last 6 years Ive only been there 2, maybe 3 times when in that 3-4 year period I was probably there 25 times or so....Glad to see the Jacket there. If there was anywhere in the Burgh Id want to see them, it would be there. Kudos to whoever makes decisions on seating at IC Light as well, because the 1st time I had been there since they changed the name was last year for the Black Crowes and there were folding seats for 50 yards up to the stage, and half seemed empty, lame. Big Ups to whoever made this party general admission
Oh yeah, it says on ticketmaster opening band TBA....Id rather it be 3 hours of the Jacket, but very interested to see who ends up opening...Hoping its someone good that Ive never seen before.

I agree. 3 hours would be amazing.

It's onnnnnnnnnn :D Your tix for NYC are comin Monday too, I can FEEL IT :o
I got my Pitt ticket a few weeks ago too, the plutonium alloy wallet is stocked n locked
I hope they do....the mail around here is so damn slow and delivers at random times in the day.
I feel Im looking forward to the NYC shows so much that I keep forgetting Im going to this show only 30 mins from my house!!
I am permastoked about this....... I keep reeling thinking about this show and thinking about the NYC shows.... the close-ness of this one is going to be spectacular. I feel like I can do anything I want and run around the city like a maniac because I know exactly where everything is, and I won't be the slightest bit lost heh
Like a run down to the rivers afterward and a run up to Mt. Washington, etc, to burn off post-show energy (like I'll actually be able to burn it off...) We need to kidnap the boys and take them on a Tour de Burgh :-X It's not a huge city......might be able to convince 'em..... heh everytime I go over the Ft.Pitt bridge I look down at the amphitheater and daydream (briefly) about that fateful day in August to come.... def. can't wait

Im going to check out some of the local vinyl record stores in the afternoon before the show. Ex. Jerry's Records and The Attic. The guys would go nuts in those places.

Well I am not fortunate enough to be able to make the NYC run, but my wife and I are super stoked about this show (except for the fact that school starts for my wife that week :P).
Any chance of meeting up before or after the show with some of the posters in here that are going to be at the show? I would love to meet up with anyone going. :)

Im hoping to get there early so I'll probably be down for a meetup. Just look for the guy in his mid 20's with 1 of Chode's "Rock out with you clock out" shirts raging in the lot ;D
Also, they still havent announced the opening band yet. A month a half away only too....kind of surprised. They better make a good pick!

I thought I'd look up musicians in the Pittsburg area to see who might open for the boys. You haven't heard of "her"?
We could meet up. Whats a good place? I havent been down there in years. Does anyone know if the stage faces the same way as the old IC light Amp.? Is there still a roof on the place?
QuoteWe could meet up. Whats a good place? I havent been down there in years. Does anyone know if the stage faces the same way as the old IC light Amp.? Is there still a roof on the place?
I don't think I've been to Pittsburgh since my college days so I am no help when it comes to knowing the area.
My wife teaches and she's only working a half day. We have about a 2 1/2 hour drive so we should make it into town fairly early.
Capt, are you tailgating? I might bring my Weber and do some grillin' in the lot before the show depending on how our travels go.

I figured just meet in the lot. And yes, its exactly the same as its always been.
I doubt Ill be grilling, but if drinking beer in the lot is enough to constitute tailgating, tailgating I shall be doing!

I'm going to be at the Flaming Lips show at the venue tomorrow, so I'll post up if there's anything "post-worthy" or helpful about the place these days 8-)
Going to the venue before the SHOW show makes for an awkward butterfly feeling, where I'm part "HOLY CRAP I'M GOING THERE IT MUST BE THE JACKET" and part "oops wait, not til I get back from trip out west....." It's a really awkward feeling... It just feeds the fire!!!

Im considering going tonight, and really want to see Fang Island, but $50 after fees & parking for Flaming Lips and Fang Island is a bit much for me. If it was $30 or so, wouldnt be much of a discussion.
Ya-ya-ya-ya-ya the amphitheater was a good venue pick for last night... I strayed a few times and visualized the boys on-stage and had to be resuscitated (only 4 times, or so...) ;) But I just came to report a couple t'ings...
There was no re-entry allowed (not sure if that will still be the case come August...not super important, but just thought I'd note it)
They do indeed charge $10 for parking. Thankfully I split that up with a friend (and there was oddly no tax on my ticket?) I bought it for $35 at the legitimate ticket window, and there was no tax involved, I gave 'em two 20s and got a 5 back... so that was a bit of a break at least. You could park elsewhere in August, but then the whole tailgating idea goes down the loo (if that is your fancy) (...not going down the loo......the tailgating.........)
Right... so last but not least, it will be a full moon 3 days prior to the show, so hopefully it will be as remarkable and visible as it was last night... :)
The Lips were unruly as possible, of course, and I'll post some pics as soon as I recharge my camera and git my act together here... Fang Island was pretty kickin, sporting hoodies in the tropical weather! I hadn't heard much by them before, and it was a good first impression!
And Dude, Station Square and the South Side definitely consist of a smorgasbord of restaurants and bars. I'm a poor candidate to make recommendations, unfortunately, but I'm sure someone on here can! 8-)
What do you think the first song will be? One Big Holiday or Evil urges?
woodnymph, 10 bucks is cheap if you got others to split it with. I wonder if there is a spot where you can meet the band after the show. Tour bus area. I meet the foo fighters and pete yorn that way back in 2003.
Did end up going to the Lips show afterall, although I missed Fang Island, who I really wanted to see as well.
Woodnymph was spot on with her assessment of the venue. I almost bought tix on ticketmaster day of the show actually, and the price went from like $3 charge to $5 charge. Glad I didnt buy then and got them with no charge at the gates.
I did notice 2 things different about the venue though. One, the stage seemed noticeably larger (not complaining, more room for JJ to rock the fuck out!). Two, they removed the roof that covered from the stage to 50 yards or so out. So if the heavens start pissing, youre gonna get wet!

Heh I have NO IDEA what they'll open with :-X..... there's just something in my cranium that won't register any one particular song (even just under simple guessing conditions...) And even if they opened every single show prior to Pitt with OBH, something in my brain is like "tonight things
might be different! *Anticipatory glances* But to envision either/or makes for some fiiiine daydreams..... Can't wait for the surprise!!
But I definitely saw a crap-ton of heads gathered outside the Lips' busses while we were on our way driving out! Tootally possible! :o That's sick you met the Foos and Mr. Yorn! Did you meet them all at that amphitheater or at other shows in the Bus Zone? I've met Xavier Rudd in DC before that way too, it's always so nice when it works out....

capt, glad you made it too! Quite a magic night! And the tax-free tix were such a treat! 8-)
Now that you mention it, stage size definitely expanded (which is indeed a very ok thing!) And alas, the roof has definitely vanished....They'd likely have blown it off forcefully anyway, so I guess it's ok :P But I'm sure we'll certainly come ready and raring for whatever is to come! (that includes various weather conditions, space-time fluctuations, vortex activations, and outright grooving/rocking out through it all!!! [smiley=vrolijk_26.gif]
34 DAYS, 18 HOURS (roughly.......I think.....)
this place is the ideal place to meet the band after the show. The last time I saw them here was in 03 and the busses were out side of the venue and not gated or fenced in. If that's the same, then I think we can all meet someone after the show there. The guys in the band are really cool about meeting fans.
Wow this show is only weeks away....i can't believe it.
Announce the damn opening band already!!
....just looked at the TTM Amphitheaters actual site, and it doesnt mention anything about an opening band, but TM does...Maybe there wont be one??

It could possibly be some small local band. But it would be sweet if there wasn't an opener. I looked in our local City Paper, an ad for it which didnt say anything about an opening band.
If anyone's from north of Pittsburgh...I was driving on Route 65 near New Brighton and saw a billboard ad for the show!

My thoughts exactly, although I was hoping the opening band would be someone I would want to see so I had the incentive to get inside earlier and get pretty close. I dont care if im on the rail or not, but I dont want to be that guy who walks in 15 minutes before MMJ starts and pushes their way up towards the front

Wow, do I hate when people do that! I notice some people doing that at the Columbus show. I think if you get there 3 hours before the show and you wait in line that long and you get up front then it's your spot. I don't think some one should cut infront of everyone at the start of the set to get up front.
Has anyone hear of this band? I'll be there early anyways to try to get as close as I can.
Oh man 28N is definitely local, but I'm not real sure what they sound like.... I hear ya on that though, about holdin down the front.... I guess I'll still head in to see 28N just to do so, but meh... wishin it was someone I at least know! Can't write much though, on the road to Red Rocks tonight but I'll be checkin in on here when I can! Thanks for posting the opener!!

pittsburgh and philly fans are always ignorant, so expect to get a shorter setlist than i get at canadaguia. i bet you they play with more heart and more energy at canadaguia because they know fans are going to be more respectful in a smaller town.
enjoy your mediocre show!

And why do you care what happens at our show?
I really don't care either way. I like anything they play. I mean I'll hear all their songs in New York.
I'm looking forward to a fantastic show in Pittsburgh. In some ways, the Pitt show venue has similarities to the great show in Philly on Sept. 5, 2008 - a big parking lot down by the river, near a bridge at the end of summer and GA (mostly the true fans are up front in a show like this which greatly enhances the experience); we even have a hurricane churning in the Atlantic, like the one that arrived just as the Philly show was ending.
Gonna pack a good friend (fan but live show virgin) and the wife (not so much a virgin) into the car and head up the road from MD on Friday and meet up with my son who lives there now. We're looking forward to having a blast with some of you up front.
We shall see if Pitt can bring the love but I have no doubt that the Jacket will put on a kick ass show no matter what.
(At least we're fortunate that Hackdowner won't be there.)

Sweet....glad you can make it. Only a few days away.
ohmylordohmylordohmylordohmylord this is comin up so soon, i'm cruisin across teh country to make it in time! :-P even if i roll back into pitt by noon on friday, with no hours of sleep beforehand, i will be rocking out as hard as the hardest rocker-outer, if that makes any sense? pardon me, i just drove across death valley today, failed to camp at a KOA due to unforseen circumstances, and gave in for a luxurious hotel. though cheap, it is still the bees knees.
i actually have my ticket in my car just in case said instance occurs and i have no time to go home first. i'll cross my fingers that that's not the case and i'm well-fed and well-rested for the show, but ahm just sayin.... LET IT ROLLLLLL
what's with the nega-tor pitt comment, by-the-by? that's random.... that also mentions mmj and "mediocre" in one fell swoop. tsk tsk!!
after bein on the road for 2+ weeks, pitt is lookin' mighty fiiiiine! and after seein the boys rock their hearts out at outside lands, i'm all sortsa fired up for my hometown show!
i know i'm a rambler in more ways than 3, but just had to throw in that while i was driving through yosemite park yesterday before camp, the clouds were casting these unreal shadows on all the gigantic granite domes, and i had [highlight]STEAM ENGIN[/highlight]E on from the [highlight]2004 PITT SHOW[/highlight] and had to pull over because "It's not the dream.........." et al. just synced up so perfectly with the cloud shadows floating across the rock faces....
ok i'm delirious, better hit the sack now... i haven't been able to pop on here for some time, so's i just had to spew there :-X

Edit: DMM site and myspace both say he is opening for MMJ...so does 28North's site though too :-/
Gimme all DMM. I can live without 28north. And I can definitely live without two opening acts cutting into MMJ's stage time.
Maybe since DMM is opening now, MMJ will tell 28 North to go dahn to the river and buzz off ;D
I honestly cant see 2 bands opening this show though
I don't know if this has been covered and if so, I apologize. But I was reading the posts from MMJ's show in MA tonight and they were saying the lots weren't tailgating friendly. Anyonon know if the lot for this Pitt show tailgate friendly? I'm hoping so!

I havent been to this venue early enough to tailgate since the name change, but it always was cool back then
You coming to the show solo or bringing the wifey and the 3 princesses?
Just PMd my cell to a few of you...Hit me up and lets party in the lot!
cool. Dude, I hope they play steam engine.....and I hope there is only 1 opener.
QuoteQuoteYou coming to the show solo or bringing the wifey and the 3 princesses?
Wifey's coming along but my 3 princesses are staying back with grandma. We've got both sets of grandparents in the area so I figure take advantage of the built in babysitting and let them watch the kids while we go rock out! 8-) I'm sure when the time is right and they are a bit older, I will baptize them to a MMJ show. But that time isn't now. ;)
PS, I replied to your PM cappy.
2 DAYS AHHHHH!!!! I'm making grand time (logged 1000 miles yesterday like it wa'nt no thaaaang!) In St. Louis now, about to get this show on the road and MAYBE STOP THROUGH LOUISVILLE AND CHECK OUT EAR X-TACY??!?! I think I may!
Capt. I wrote ya back, and I think the best way for us all to get in touch to meet up is to swap digits and figure out where we all are, once we're down there...
The lot should be just fine as far as tailgating, I"m just not sure what time they'll let us start runnin things... I plan on gettin there at some ridiculous hour between 12 and 2 hahahahahha we'll see
I PMd a couple of ya with my #, and anyone else that wants ta meet up get at me or capt and I hope to see yinz all there AHHHHHHHHH!!! :o :o :o
Today is absolutely wonderful out and just checked the weather for tomorrow. Sunny, high of 76, 0% chance of rain.
Jawesome 8-)
Quotepittsburgh and philly fans are always ignorant, so expect to get a shorter setlist than i get at canadaguia. i bet you they play with more heart and more energy at canadaguia because they know fans are going to be more respectful in a smaller town.
enjoy your mediocre show!
speaking of

only hours away....
So what's the latest on who's going to open, when they start, when MMJ starts, etc. The only hard information I have is that my ticket says "5:30 PM Door". We're loading up the car right now. See y'all soon!

Daniel Martin Moore opening with 28 North on a side stage I guess.

HOLY MACKEREL all systems are go!!! I made it back into town last night, got a great night of sleep, and just unloaded my car... just about ready to roll! Gotta have some lunch and I'm doin a load of laundry, and gotta clear off the memory card on the cameraaaaa.... think I'll leave here 'tween 3 and 4!
CAN'T WAIT TO SEE EVERYONE AND ROCK OUT!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D
We've been here by the gates for about an hour. there are signs everywhere about no cameras. im not happy about that. the guys played touch me pt. 2 and went back to their bus.
cant wait to see you guys!
ARGHHHH!! so Psyched!!!
Ive been trying to call the box office about when each band is approximately supposed to start but no one has picked up on their end...any word on that?
no idea. we're right beside the box office thing, but there are just four or five guys walking around setting up barricades. no one's actually in there.
Shewt I guess I better get ready and head on down! Bummed I missed the soundcheck! Hmmm no cameras...... we'll have to see about that....... [smiley=evil.gif]
Thanks for the live updates!! I'll be leavin 'tween 3 and 3:30!
enjoy your 19 song set list.

Nice...I thought for sure JJ would come out during DMM's set, but thatll be even sweeter if most or all of the boys do

this band is ON FIRE right now. undoubtedly my best MMJ experience since first seeing them in '04 in pittsburgh (and that was probably my favorite show of all time, of any band)
the 'dondante-smokin-run thru(end)-touch me pt.2' series is just pure, live music bliss.
...and as a separate post, because i didn't want to defile the last one with negativity, but i really have to say this:
to all the people who just INSIST on trying to talk over the band during the entire show....SHUT THE F UP!!! do you seriously realize what you're missing?? SHUT UP, you stupid jagoffs.

yeah people talking during the show is the absolute worst...especially during the lovely slow ones like Golden.
btw , that setlist is pretty good...congratulations. 25 songs...guess that means Jim is giving me 32 in Canandaigua. :D
What a fine show tonight (or I guess it's now yesterday). The boyz were all cooking as well as I've seen, and Jim was all over the place, shoving up against Carl, rolling on the floor and generally acting extra crazy. They played furiously for 2:35 (8:20-10:55) and took less than a 5 min intermission. Just about everything was perfect as far as I was concerned and the crowd up front was very into it and burning quite a few sweet smelling leaves.
Brought back memories of Philly two years ago complete with an OBH ending!
We had heard Dan Moore was going to open but the added bonus was that Jim, Carl and Patrick played several songs with him during his opening set which is really not completely unexpected give the recent Appalachian tour.
I caught a couple songs on video and will post when I get home in a couple of days.
Thanks forty3is4me for posting the set list!

I just got back about an hour ago. Great show. One of the best. I meet up with 'woodnymph'. There was 4 of us in our group....myself, my wife, her friend, and woodnymph....we got right up front on the rail. We got to meet them after the show..... It's late and I need to get some sleep. I'll post a full post later this weekend.

what happened exactly tonight...... i'ma not able to even process that all.... wth..... a steam engine, dondante, touch me one touch me twoooo....AND WHERE TO BEGIN?! AND WHERE TO BEGIN?!? AND WHERE sorry, tonight I'm always startin over..... always startin over.........always..........kdklgajkljgkaljgljdgjakgagh
wordless one big holidayski....at dawn....i can't even keep going, else i'll just wind up listing them off like the setlists that're already posted, but mine won't be in order :D
meeting them?! did that happen??? did they really talk to us and give us a box of their pizza?? and sign our records???
I just don't know, I've only seen them in Columbus and at Outside Lands thus far..... but tonight's show I think surpasses these things.... Pat said everyone in the band felt awesome walking off the stage tonight... unanimous agreement on awesomeness status!!
front & center was the most happenin-est spot! thank you Dude for sharin that rail :)

ARG FARG ARMM RAWR aye aye aye..... sorry, still working on re-learning speech and basic motor skills after tonight's show.... indeed 2 preceded 1!!! It made 1 so unexpected!! Lay Low was completoooo, and Gideon and At Dawn were just.... well, you know!! shewt!!! LET ME NOT FORGET THE ROLLIN BACK TEASER STARTIN THINGS OFF!! That was wicked
They were so in the zone tonight..... I knew I didn't haul ass across the country for no reason!! The crowd was even rocking out super hard and we helped make it a solid energy circuit, feeding the band while they were feeding us! And the moon, though not entirely full anymore, came rising up behind them slowwwly through the night, and Jupiter is just next to the moon (I thought it was Venus, but I was mistaken...)
No sleep for me awhile tonight....... hot dang

So happy and jealous for you guys! Seems like they are real accessible these days, I will have to make a point to see them afterwards in Maine. TMP 2 before TMP 1 is just nuts!!! At Dawn and a Steam Engine make for a monumentous night.
FYI, Mars is the planet next to the Moon. It only gets bigger and brighter through September culminating at the end when they are both the same size and right next to each other. :D
I am going to look into taping rigs. I am getting discouraged at the lack of mics at these special shows. Nowhere close to Wilco where there are a half-dozen tapers a show with all varying degrees of quality and location. Who knows, maybe I will start with Portland and finish with EU NYC!

a bajillionso happy for you!
It was a great show, but I think we should have moved closer to the stage because there were a lot of jackasses talking around us. Any time they played something pre-Z, people just started socializing. I wanted to hear Bermuda Highway, but I probably would have just gotten angry. It was a great show, the first I'd seen in Pittsburgh for years. Hopefully other good bands will take a cue from MMJ and start playing Pittsburgh again.

Shewwwt yeah the road really does just never end! Thank YOU to the bajillionth power!!!! I just won't be the same again! (and that's ok by me!!) ;D ;D
Thank all you guys for the great vibes!!!
Just rolled back into Woo-town after an epic night in Pittsburgh. Sorry I didn't get to meet up with you all as planned. My GPS in our Volvo must have been a nature lover in a previous life becasue it seems to always take us through BFE to get to whatever destination we are going to. The drive down was beautiful. It just took a bit longer than we anticipated. We didn't roll into Pittsburgh until 5 and still hadn't eaten anything. After we ate a bite to eat at some bar that was serving pitchers of Yuengling for $10 I couldn't just stop at one! :D
My wife and I finally rolled into the lot just after 7 and we just decided to chill and drink a couple or 4 or 5 beers before heading in just before 8. We tried hooking up with cappy but he and his friend were heading into the show just as we were pulling in the lot.
Nymp and Dude, looks like you guys got the cherry on top of an amazing night! Would have been cool to meet up. Maybe next time! 8-)
As for the show, I have to pretty much agree with everything that has been already said. Highlight had to be At Dawn into Where To Begin! This was my second show and I've gotten WTB at both shows! Not bad! 8-)
This band is definitley on fire as forty3is4me noted! I sure hope somebody taped that show. They always bring a lot of energy, but they brought it STRONG last night! Complete permagrin for me from the opening song right on thru to the end! :) What an amazing band and I feel so fortunate to be a part of it all!
Lastly, I'm no Stillers fan, but it was freaking AWESOME to see Patrick come out for the encore waving his terrible towel in a Troy Polamalu jersey! Talk about getting the crowd into a frenzy and then he was waving the towel more as they walked off the stage after the OBH finale. Total Kick Ass moment!
One downer to the show is just how fucking disrespectful some people can be! Jim was sharing a story of how they were glad to be in Pittsburgh and about how they went to the Museum of Modern Art that afternoon and he saw a painting with his and Patrick's birthday on it and he felt that was a sign that it was going to be a special night. Well some jackass quite a ways behind us kept yelling at Jim to shut the fuck up and play some fucking music. I thought maybe hacksaw had made his way down to Pittsburgh or something! :P Anyways it was totally rude and I wanted to go punch that guy in the face even though I'm normally not the violent type! ;D Oh, and I too hate the people talking the whole show. I just tune them out for the most part though.
I can't wait for the next time these guys come through my neck of the woods! WOW! Just WOW!!! That's all for now... 8-)
What a night! Im not sure if the Jacket sucked all the energy out of me, or the tube rips I took after the show for the first time in like 3 years, but I slept til 5PM today ;D
Awesome show, Ive only seen them 2.25 times, but it was hands down the best of the bunch. I hadnt been following the setlists as all because I wanted to be as surprised as possible, and they def delivered a few surprises. At Dawn > Where to Begin. Touch Me Once. Easy Morning Rebel. I was floored they played a Steam Engine after already playing Dondante. Gideon caught me totally off guard as I didnt expect it in the encore. I had gathered that they had only been playing the end of Lay Low in another thread, so I was ecstatic they played the entire thing. As far as Im concerned, OBH shouldnt be played anywhere but last and it was the perfect ending to a great show. Circuital was sweet. The Jacket was on point and just pumping the tunes out. JJ was on fire.
Im with you ILB, loved that Patrick busted out the Troy jersey and Terrible Towel! I liked that it was the all gold and black throwback jerseys as well. I wish they did that at the beginning of the show, crowd probably wouldve been even more psyched. I had actually brought a Polamalu jersey that I was going to throw on stage, but I forgot it in the car. I guess it didnt matter all that much!
I cant say I had the same problem with the crowd - luckily. I was probably 15-20 feet back centerstage, had a ton of room to cut some rug, and the crowd was great and energized. No talking problems whatsoever. I didnt leave my spot the entire show, so all I saw was the people in front of me and the crowd was all about the boys.
We headed in at probably 730 or so, and there were still parking spots all over the place within 10 spaces to the venue. Not sure how much it filled up in IC Light as time went on, but I cant believe how empty the lot was
Missed all of DMM's set until the last couple songs so hopefully I can find some footage on youtube...any idea what the songs the band joined with him were??
Sorry the meetups didnt work out, but there's always next show! I have a feeling the Jacket will be back in the Burgh sooner rather than later, and for those of you actually from Pittsburgh, theres always other shows to meet up at. I didnt really want to push myself up thru to those of you on the rail, as I hate it when people do that to me, and the amount of rock out space I had where I was at was pretty spectacular.
Hopefully someone recorded that epicness of last night! Im still recovering :D

I just don't know, I've only seen them in Columbus and at Outside Lands thus far..... but tonight's show I think surpasses these things.... Pat said everyone in the band felt awesome walking off the stage tonight... unanimous agreement on awesomeness status!!
Thats awesome to hear! It felt like they all were having a great time as well.
Great pic too, although Carl looks like the show sucked all the life out of him like me last night! ;D

I LOVE watching Carl! And he was bringin' it last night! I'm still in awe of the energy this band brings to their shows night in and night out. I can't fathom a better live act going right now.
Oh and the lot was filled more at the far end of the lot it seemed. When we pulled in, everything looked pretty full so we parked close to the entry gates. It wasn't until we started walking in that we noticed how many empty spots were available closer to the venue. Also, it seemed as though the crowd was bigger to me at the C'bus show than what was there last night. Although, it's hard to tell how far back the crowd went. We were probably about 50 ft. from the stage and we didn't move from our spot either once the show started.
I did like the venue with the cliffs to one side and the skyline of Pittsburgh on the other and the moon was a nice touch by Ma Nature as well! 8-)
Hi everybody!
Never posted before, but had to sign up to rave about last night's show. To quote the man himself, "I'm Amazed"!
This show was my third time being MMJ, the first when I saw them open for the Foo Fighters in 03 (before I know who they were), and the second at Lolla in 07. But I've never seen My Morning Jacket proper, and boy am I glad I did. This show converted me from casual fan to fanatic.
Having no pavilion at the venue was great, it such a beautiful night to be amongst friends under the stars.
From Easy Morning Rebel on the band was playing some next-level shit. Lay Low = :D ! I was dancing and grooving and loving it. Plus, the Run Thru jam into Touch Me I'm Going To Scream II, totally WILD! The glowsticks flying throughout the crowd during Touch Me turned the whole place in a groovy rock rave.
And Gideon in the encore, what a song. When Jim screamed, I felt lifted. Religion should appeal to the hearts of young, but when it doesn't, rock n' roll's not a bad substitute.
I'm still glowing. Hope everyone has a stellar time in NY tonight and Philly tomorrow!
And one more thing. After the show, my friend told me he naming his first son Donald with the middle name Dante. ;D He loved the show too.
Amazing show last night, probably my favorite one of the 3 times I've seen them. At Dawn, Where To Begin, and Easy Morning Rebel were all pleasant surprises. I could do without the glow sticks, especially when people throw them at the stage.
ilikebeer-I was at Flaming Lips at the same venue and I heard someone yell at Wayne in a similar manner, must've been the same jagoff.
During Jim's banter he made it sound like they've played Pittsburgh several times in recent years, even though it's been 6 years since they've played here. I guess when you tour like they do everything blurs together.

Great show. I'm so suprised that we made it up to the front and right infront of Two Tone. It was one great night in Pittsburgh, and the weather was great for an outdoor show. We got their late...but we weren't really since there was hardly any people up front. This place was a nice spot for a show. Back in 03 they place was way different, but I believe this show was one of the best since Detroit 08. Highlights were Where to Begin, Lay Low and Steam Engine were awesome, totally rocked out Steam Engine.
Anyways, at the end of the show my wife was able to get one of their roadies, I think Carl's guitar tech to give her his set list! Score! We also bought a poster. #12/166....Woodnymph got #12. Next we all went to our cars and got some vinyl. I wanted them to sign my At Dawn and Evil Urges and our set list. (Sounds like a lot but their was me, my wife and our friend plus woodnymph had her vinyl too) So we waited by their bus for about 20 mins after...maybe longer for them to come back. And one by one they showed up to BS and sign stuff.
First was Patrick, super nice and told us them walked off the stage was were super excited about the show they just did. Next Bo came out with a pizza and offered it to all of us. (there was a totaly of 10 people hanging out) Good pizza and a super cool moment. Bo was really open about talking about the show and new album. After they left, Jim, Carl and Two Tone came over. We all BSed for a few minutes, they signed everyones things, vinyl, cds, even the Pizza box.
This band is amazing. This was by far one of the best times we've ever had at a show. Each member of the group is super nice and willing to talk to their fans. I'm glad everyone on here had a great time....good hangin with you woodnymph, we'll have to do it again.

That's awesome dude, I don't think I would've convinced my friends to wait there like you did.
Dondante was probably my highlight, i love how they change that song up a little every time and jam it out. I got a poster too (love the design, reminds me of peeps), got #26. I got posters for 2 of the 3 MMJ shows I've been to (not too impressed with the one I don't have). I can't wait to get it framed. I should've got vinyl too.
I got #13.....my bad. I'm still amazed at what just happened friday. A great end to a great summer. 8-)
Quotebtw , that setlist is pretty good...congratulations. 25 songs...guess that means Jim is giving me 32 in Canandaigua. :D
Or 20...
Guess Jim and the boys like Pittsburgh a bit more than you were leading us to believe eh hacksaw? Especially given the fact that Patrick busted out his #43 Stillers jersey and all. :D

And being a yinzer pays off once again!!! That Canandaigua setlist looks pretty standard (and short) and Im not sure I couldve put together a better - and reasonable - show than we got in the Burgh.
Im hoping they post pics from the show and there's one of PH spinning the Towel in the Troy jersey
My neck is still sore from all the rocking out [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]
QuoteI find is hilarious, that shortly after True left, Pitt gets a date. He's been begging for a show there forever.

QuoteMy neck is still sore from all the rocking out [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]
Mr. Headdy I wish we could've met up also, but I totally understand not wanting the awkwardness of making it up front! It was super non-packed when we last talked, but it sure did fill in!
My neck is definitely reminding me about the night! I slept in my car again last night, at a fest in Ohio, and it's usually real comfy but I think I felt my neck the whole night anytime I tossed and/or turned hahah Oh well, there's no controlling my reactions to such a show!! I headbanged as hard as my neck allowed that night! You know what though, the pain is like a sweet reminder of all the magic, in a sense........ [smiley=vrolijk_26.gif]
I forgot to mention, unfortunate though as I am for not getting into MMJ sooner, The Way that He Sings was the first song that got me onto them, and for them to open with it was like this omen of what was to come... it was like a dream show. More details keep coming back as time goes on oh oh like the Steam Engine.... I've never seen them do it before, but they jammed it out so well, and the ending reminded me much of the way they ended it in Pitt in '04... just the same kind of finishing sound.... it might just be what they do. I've been the same as Capt, I haven't looked at setlists or listened to current shows or anything, tryin' to be all surprised :-X Which by god I sure was more than a little surprised all night!!
As a last noter, I was driving to Ohio yesterday and had At Dawn on (song not album) and 3 really big flocks of birds flew out over my car, like big schools of fish, just flying right then left then straight ahead, pretty much just dancing in the sky, making wild shadows and it synced up rather well....
WHICH REMINDS ME (do I ever stop typing?) I'd like to snap a pic of the poster for folks to see too, which just so happens to be all birds in a crazy pattern! Just one thing after another with those guys... and with Jim saying the year he was born was painted really big in the museum he visited just makes it that much more 'right on track'.....sheewwtt....
Oh my god they rode the incline the night before too, where were we all at??? Hahah how'd you like to be catchin' the incline and seeing them walk on.... danggg :o
I snagged a poster! Here's a picture, the design company is based in Pittsburgh too, which is great!

That is so super sweet, I really want one.
Sounds like you guys had a great time, good for you!

Thanks for postin it up! Sweet they're from the 'burgh too, that makes it way cooler!!
Been listening to the classic rock radio station WDVE's morning show, and multiple times the guys have said how the Stone Temple Pilots show blew on Saturday, but damn, that My Morning Jacket show on Friday kicked ass 8-)

OH SHEWT THEY MENTION THE JACKET SHOW?!?!? That's AWESOME! Wish I caught that!!!
OK, here are my 2 videos from the Pittsburgh show.
Carried Away:

Gideon:

Unfortunately the sound is somewhat messed up and I almost cried when I heard them given how perfect they sounded from where I was standing. The video is OK so hopefully this still brings back good memories for those at the show who can mentally dub in the great sound.

Aw I hear ya on the tears shed for quality loss when capturing the precious memories, my camera is craptastic for audio... but any captured footage of any kind, to me, is way better than none! I'm gonna check these out now, thanks so much for posting them!!!
WHOA I just watched the Gideon and the quality is wayyyyy better than my camera can get, so that's definitely awesome to see! And I can just make out my hand and the top of my head bobbin around up front!! Hahah that makes for great memories... thank ya kindly 8-)
these are the highest quality videos i found on youtube so far. i hope someone taped the show!

I see Philly's all sortsa hooked up for their recording!!! Pittsburgh too pretty pretty please!!
Sorry guys because this video is of really poor quality, but i wanted to share because i think it reflects the energy of the band and the fans in general.

IT'S BEAUTIFUL!!!! THANK YOU!!!
I must have been just a couple of people down from you based on your description.
I was trying to spot meself or the other 3 folks I was with, but it pans through the people pretty quick (which is expected with such a raging song being played!!) I wonder if there's a slow-mo button on the 'to0b... :P
i had on a bonnaroo shirt, a guy to my left had on a black shirt, then a girl in a pink or purple shirt. we were the first ones there.

I talked to a guy in the lot who had a 'roo shirt on (I think!) Hmmm it's hard to say.... I posted a pic of the ppl I was with & myself earlier in the thread though, so maybe you might recognize

Let me know what you think. I just got a Droid X and this was the first time I got to test the video recorder out. It's suppose to be 720p HD. Looks really good on my tv through HDMI. Im just glad the sound wasn't so distorted.
Enjoy. :)
ITDude, these videos are INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great video and audio.
Best I've seen from Pitt - brings back fantastic memories.
It would have been nice, however, if you were a bit closer :D

I just added a video of "Steam Engine" It's the last half of the song. this song went on for at least 15 mins.
Enjoy
8-)
