OMG OMG OMG.  Please say this means 5 volume live album or something nuts like that.  Gotta figure there are going to be ridiculous jam sessions on War Begun, Phone, Steam, Dondante....this is unreal.  I wish I could take the time off work to be there.  Already amped for the tapings.  Maybe we'll get some of the B-sides never before performed like Devil's Peanut Butter.  Particularly excited to hear the tapings of the Tennessee Fire and At Dawn albums!  I'm pretty sure there is a lot of stuff the current lineup has never played together live (I'm real amped about Just Because I Do  ;D)

only 3k capacity?! wow, that kind of sucks as a ton of people will get shutout on tix.

Shark move might be to try and get tix for the Evil Urges & Beyond night as it will probably have less people trying for tix when they go on sale

I am more interested in seeing the first three nights, especially 'It Still Moves'. Still not sure what they mean by "fans" have rights to a 5 night package on June 14th. Anyone?

Terminal 5 is an awful venue. Sound blows and you can hardly move-not stopping me from trying for tickets though. Hoping this means a fall tour filled with lots of old and new tunes and different setlist each night. A girl can dream....

The only reasonable thing to do for the "fans" is to offer first dibs on 5-show tickets to forum members registered before 2005...

I love this band more than anything. Thank you, MMJ for doing this. I love you.

My only concern is actually getting the 5-night package since I am sure the demand will be insane.

Who wants to go in for a hotel room? I don't mind sleeping on the floor if it will lower the cost. Is 12 people to a room too much?  :P

See why I'm marrying her?

Bonus: it will be 2 weeks after our wedding, so on the At Dawn night, we'll get to re-live our first dance live when they do Low Down

From what I see there is only 3000 seats in the this place.  They sold out Radio City in 40 minutes and MSG was close to capacity.  That said.

I can't wait!!!!!!!!!  Oh please god of Yim, deliver us souls tickets!!

Ok.... Just got my puke cleaned up..

This is insane,  I will do my best not to miss this.
I've read all of your thoughts from the live shows, and the recordings, heres some other thoughts:

1 Each night they only play "the" album, nothing else.  From track 1
to whatever.  They play it so perfect in the perfect setting to the perfect crowd.  They play it like you've never heard them play it before with the fear of never hearing it like that again.

2 If a recording project comes of this, never mix it, use all footage from start to finish in a series of disks.  I  would even add some off stage content.

3. If at all possible get the package.  I couldn't imagine seeing one of these shows, knowing there is another one the next night..unbelievable

just my 3 cents,,   I'm going out of my mind ;D

Man, I am blown away, excited for the band and for we fans.  I can't see myself going, though.  It would be all or nothing for this and its hard for us teachers to take a week off when classes are in session.

I will "pray" for you all to get your 5-day tix, a place to stay, and for some top-notch tapers.

Maybe something will change, but for now I will live this epic 5-night run through you.

Wow!

This is just ridiculous.  Totally put dibs on my dear friends floor space 2 seconds after I got the email.  I still have plenty of vacation time left and this is right before my black out period for travel (yay!).  And, me and the hubs have been really, really good about saving for a rainy day, so the cash flow is there.  Now, getting tickets is my only concern.  May the ticket Gods smile upon us all.  Any word about what time the pre-sale starts on Monday?

Oh my GAWD, I just can't think straight....I must be at all 5 shows and then I can die a happy soul  [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif] [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif] [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

I might manage the Saturday show, though more for the "...and beyond!" then the "Evil Urges..."  Great album, but all of my live Jacket experiences have happened post-EU.  Still, haven't had a live "Librarian" or "Remnants".

I'd love to find up to 3 others willing to carpool with me down from NH, through MA etc. to NYC.  Plenty of time to iron out the details.  Just can't swing the whole week.

I'll save my 4 personal days for the next big MMJ tour announcement.  I think my 3-show April and 3-show August are fair consolation.

Just think, a few months ago, how we all bemoaned the drought of live MMJ.  I've been jumping on every live experience I can and now I'm running out of money and goodwill points from the wife.

Unreal...

IF I can make it to one of these NYC shows (sadly, probably not) I would have to go with the Tennessee Fire show! A small intimate setting for those songs, played in the same order I've listened to them privately over the years???? .... What an emotional and unforgettable experience that would be.

So I live in Australia, and have been wanting to go to the states for a while; would it be crazy to spend my little savings and fly over for this amazing event (or concept)?

And who would give me their couch for a week? ha!

This is probably the most incredible concert series ever!!!

I have a problem with it though. Why not do the same string of shows on the west coast as well. I'm sure Portland has a venue equally as good as the one in NYC. It's shitty that the east coast gets a string of shows with the PHJB and now this and the west gets a few festival dates and that's it.

For all you lucky people who get to go...you're fuckin lucky is all I can say.

If you can swing it, it'd be CRAZY not to!!

MMJ in New York City, all 5 albums in order, a trip you've been wanting to do for a while. It will be epic, and a memory you'll cherish for the rest of your life!!  8-)

Don't worry about the venue. It's going to be great seeing them in a smaller club. If the sound isn't that great where you are, then just move to another area. It'll most likely be all ga, and we'll be free to roam all three levels.

You still have time to think it over before the presale, but I say go for it, if you can.

Fingers crossed that the ticket gods will be smiling on us at the presale.

What's up guys and gals?

Long time lurker of these forums....been coming here for a few years to get info and stuff.....but now I felt compelled to join. The 5 night residency is awesome news. Just what I needed.

I'm looking to try and do the last three nights. It's just better for me financially and also schedule-wise.

What do you guys think will happen each night? Will they play ONLY the album they are supposed to or do you think we will possibly get a cover or two? Maybe an encore or something?

If they only play the albums....i'd imagine they'd have to stretch some songs out (not a hard task for MMJ) so that the concert lasts longer than 80 minutes.

can't wait. hope i don't get shut out when buying tix for the Thursday, Friday, and Saturday shows. I'd probably be down for sharing an apartment/hotel room as well. I live on Long Island but don't really want to pay $20 a night for train service.

Was greater thought not placed towards a more "neutral" site? Besides selling everything I own, which I saw given as advice on an earlier page, me and many other hardcore west and southern fans are sort of left out.

If not somewhere more central in the U.S., then is there some reason this couldn't be done multiple times?

I mean this is the most epic of everything epic I've ever imagined(short of them joining the stage with Geddy, Neil, and Alex). I realize I'm just being a sore loser, but why are they doing this to me?   :'(

It is a freakin' airplane hangar with 500 foot ceilings

Haha....no I don't really train monkeys. I'm 23 and have had this as a screen name since I was in my early teens......made it for no apparent reason and stuck with it. That's a common question though.

I'd love to see some guests or other songs or something. I mean I'm sure they can stretch some songs and jam it out but I'd like to see at least 2 hours of Jacket per show.

?   :'(

Not sure what their reasoning is. I know I was upset that there weren't many NY dates for the initial tour announcement. The only close shows I saw were opening for Petty which is cool but not a full Jacket show. With these new dates then they seem to be showing more love to the northeast/NY area. I'm happy (selfishly) because I will get to see them (assuming I get tickets).

Maybe they'll do some other special things in the future in other areas.

not sure it makes much sense to have it centrally located..? in the midwest somewhere? where would you suggest that other than Louisville *similar to the DBT doing their Athens shows every year...? population density wise, it makes sense to have it in the northeast, that's where the people are, and they are more likely to travel..oh and it's NYC, even if you think the venue's subpar (it's a fine venue); everything becomes a little more 'epic' in NYC; just think having it in a neutral place would inconvenience a ton more people somewhat rather than a small number extremely..it's a trade off

Didn't y'all read the press release? ;D ;)  It says they'll be performing each record in its entirety, along with whatever b-sides/outtakes/covers from that era in Jacket history.  I'm pretty psyched to see some Rocket Man, Dream A Little Dream of Me, Tyrone...   :D

And I hate to add griping to the griping, but man...I don't see how anyone can complain about them doing this. It's an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime thing!

Dude, chill. Something like 60% of the US population lives within a day's drive of NYC. I'd say that's pretty "neutral".

Exactly Penny.  I can't even go but I can't imagine a better place for them to do it (no idea about the venue, but I sure wouldn't be bitching about seeing them inside up close and personal).  New York City can't be beat, tis the center of the world.

As for all the other haters, who the fuck are you people? Do you even like my morning jacket?  These 5 shows could possibly be the most intense set of shows the Jacket has preformed to date.  We're already guaranteed songs that haven't been played in years and some that haven't been played ever.

Also assume they're going to be playing Cobra, How Do You Know, and a bunch of other shit off the EPs they've dropped over the years.  These shows are going to be insane no matter which you're at.

I can't go (except maybe the last show), but I can fantasize.  I'd like to see, as a consolation prize, a 6-disc BluRay boxed set.

My Morning Jacket
Five Nights
NYC 2010

One disc per show and one of extras.  And release a BluRay Okonokos w/Acoustic Chorale in the bonus features, while you're at it.

I know New York makes it hard for people out west, but like was said above, its probably the best location for it.  There are only 3 other places I could see them doing this:  Louisville (obviously), Nashville (due to all sorts of ties the band has to the city), and San Fransisco (where they have done 3 night stands before).  The same gripes are going to be made about any place they chose to do this because so many people want to go, but New York is a good choice.  MMJ is New York big time these days.  I just hope and pray for some good live recordings, a live album or DVD, and that this isn't some sort of Last Waltz for the guys.  I don't think that it is, but it would be a hell of a way to go out if so.

THANK YOU!!  THANK YOU!!  Guys for doing this!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D

QuoteWhat's up guys and gals?

I live on Long Island but don't really want to pay $20 a night for train service.

c.) Do I really have to change my sig image just so you can browse the forum on your phone? How is that fair?

Welcome monkeytrainer! This certainly is a monumental time for you to join! Question: can you train the monkeys to outbuy any scalpers, and then sell tix via something like TicketMonkey instead?

And welcome Mr. BigStickySigs hahahah that pic's a keeper for shore.  :-X

Any NYers know where I can park my car and sleep inside of it for 5 nights???? Would also be in for group-rate hotel sharing extravaganza!

My brother's wife is due with their first child (I'll be a first-time aunt!!) at the end of October, and they live in NH... so I might have to set off the roadtrip flare like I did last year and explore the rural regions in between Terminal 5 and New England this fall! :-X October is such the perfect time of year in the NE... the mountains and lakes are stunning, and the nights are perfect for a good campfire.  :)

Working out my 12:00 Monday situation...thanks to all who shared the details on time & passwords, etc.

My inner artist is going bonkers over painting/poster ideas for this...  I'd reeeeally like to bring some themed art, but I can't WAIT to see what legit posters and shirts and merch there will be! And I second the need for a dvd/cd release of some kind!! :D :D

I'm considering surgically attaching a packet or two of smelling salts to the face, as I've developed a disorder of blacking out roughly once per hour when I think about this event.

I don't know how it's all going to work out, necessarily, but there's not a doubt in my mind that I'm going to be there; and I'd really love to meet more of you fine forum folk!!

Now back to biting nails til Monday again........

will these shows be filmed and/or put on in other parts of the world?

Or have I got to book a transactlantic holiday for NY & NE in the fall?

The plight of teachers.  We get loads of time off, but its hard to take it when we want.  You're not alone, Dylan.  I'd suggest you come up to New England for a few shows in August, but you guys start school earlier that we Yanks.  We do what we can.

Is the 5 pack going to be available on the 15th or 16th? Or is it just a pre sale thing and thats it? Sorry if it's buried in the previous 14 pages, at work right now so I can't really look around.

Thanks!

Well, I went ahead and bought anyway.   It's not likely I'll be able to use all 5, but it seemed better than trying to buy individual tickets or dealing with scalpers.

Interesting that there was no electronic printing option and that tickets have to be mailed.    Curious to see whether it's one big ticket that you use each day (that would kill scalping for sure) or if they mail 5 tickets, in which case I can sell a few off.

One big ticket might cut down on scalping, but I'm not sure I want to be walking around with something worth $200 in my pocket all week long.

Sweet...I did it by phone so that I could ask about the ticket package, but the woman on the phone didn't have any info on that.  It is SOOOO worth it even if you have to miss a show or two!   I paid over $100 for single tix at RCMH on ebay - so this was a deal for me!   Can't wait to see you all!

I'm curious to know how the tickets were split up between 5-day passes and individual day tickets.  Will they stop selling passes when the individual show tix go on sale? Would they potentially sell the place out with 5-day tix if they sold them all?  Or will they still have 5-day tix available after individual tix sell out?

breaking news:  Jim James just hurt his cervix during rehearsals for the terminal run.  Word on the street is they were trying a new harness out so Jim could schwoop down like an Owl during the shows and float over people's heads.  Supposedly the safety line snapped and he busted up his cervix really bad and had to be rushed to the hospital.  no word yet on whether or not the shows will be canceled but it's looking like it's possible.

badass.  only i have had mmj in my life for years...therefore i have never felt the feeling of being sad.  only varying degrees of elation.  the last couple of days have been simply labeled as 'happy'.  an all time low.

well the 5 day passes were up for several days, and to my knowledge never 'sold out' just became unavailable once the single tix went up.  When the single tix went up...I think Z sold out first, fairly quickly, then EU, then ISM, then the others.  You could still get ISM, AD, and TTF for several hours after they went up.

Yeah, I meant the first night sold out in 2 hours after general sale. I got my 5 day pass at around 6pm the day they went on sale.

So many posts about these shows, so maybe this has already been posted, but if not:

"Everest has been invited by friends My Morning Jacket to help close out their five-shows-in-five night run at Terminal 5 in NYC this fall. The Los Angeles-based quintet will take the stage Saturday, October 23 before MMJ caps off their five-album stint with Evil Urges. Already sold out, the show is sure to be a memorable finale for the ambitious week, which is sure to set a historic musical precedent"

Tennessee Fire - Kurt Wagner
At Dawn - Bobby Bare Jr.
It Still Moves - Dr. Dog
Z - Wax Fang
Evil Urges - Everest

Hi there, :)

I'm from Greece and I'm going to visit NY for a month in October. It happens to be a MMJ fan also and I really want to attend the fifth show at Terminal 5 because "Evil Urges" is one of my favorite albums.

Unfortunately I can't find a ticket for that show. Does anyone has a spare one. Please PM me. Is there any possibility to find one outside Terminal 5, the day of the concert or the days before?

I've seen twice MMJ 4 years ago in Portugal, they supported Pearl Jam and they were great!

Okay, so I have been given the task of finding lodging for nights 3,4 and 5 (thur-sun).  I thought I saw something posted regarding apts in the thread but can't find any after going through all the posts (but prolly missed it).  We stayed in a $350 a night hotel room for RCMH but we will not make the same mistake again.  I have found a couple wesites like citi-habitats and nycdwellers for listings in Chelsea.  I presume this is the way to go?  Are there any other websites worthy?  We'd also do a group rental thing if peeps are doing that somewhere, we have various night's tix to barter with folks.  Any other thoughts or parking spaces we could car camp at?  Someone's driveway or something?

Thanks for any positive advice!

Try homeaway.com or VRBO if you want to do the group rental thing. Brooklyn might be your best bet for a location.

Thanks Penny,

We are driving from NH.  I have looked into Dirty Jersey before and it is an option.  I truly love the city though and find it that much more exciting being in the middle of it all.  I was hoping maybe someone else has rented an apt before and could give the skinny, like cleaning fees and pets, etc...

Flights booked, apartment booked (5 blocks from the venue!), passport updated. On a plane 8 weeks from today...

And just when this trip couldn't get any better, it looks like Pearl Jam will be playing Bridge. So the difficult decision to miss the Evil Urges night is gonna end up alright...  So thats now MMJ, Neil Young and PJ over a 7 day period.  That dripping noise I hear is my brain melting out of my ear in anticipation...

56 days til lift off! :)

QuoteFlights booked, apartment booked (5 blocks from the venue!), passport updated.

congrats, Ralph! my friend is having the same dilemma w/the Bridge School Benefit (which he never misses)

If any of you have done CMJ before, I'd be curious if you have any tips or pointers.  I've done SXSW several times; is it sort of that same format?

Thanks in advance   :)

Let me know if something is already planned!

Never done SXSW or ACL but I interned at CMJ in 2005, helped with the band selection.

It is my impression you'll get a A LOT more college and indie bands than you would at SXSW or ACL, or at least there's a bit less of the "MMJ is playing and debuting new songs, so good luck getting in" type events. So in other words, there's a bit more crowd distribution across the entire marathon instead of super-hyped sets that everyone everywhere flocks to.

Keep your ear out for label showcases with surprise shows, and best of all, in my experience nothing ever really sells out in advance, but you need to get to certain buzzed/hyped shows early to get tix, especially if you don't have wristbands.

Of course, this could all have changed this year if they attract some super-huge headlining act.

That's good to know...thanks choder.

SXSW is pretty much all college/indie bands...I don't think I'd be able to make any of the "big" shows anyway due to the T5 shows, but I wouldn't mind checking out some smaller shows during the day or after T5.  Assuming there's gas left in the tank, that is!

I signed up for the CMJ mailing list, so we shall see...   :)

Not to contradict you but I feel the need to add some additional information here. I lived in NYC for 6 years and did CMJ every year. I now live in Austin and have been doing SXSW before I even moved here. CMJ is really like a smaller SXSW with a lot fewer bands playing. But the bands typically are of a similar level. The major problem with CMJ is that all of the venues in NYC are spread out so it is hard to get from one to another in time to see lots of sets. It is almost better to pick one or two shows per night.

A lot of showcase do in fact sell out at CMJ and are hard to get into. Everything at the Mercury Lounge will be tough to get into. Also I would suggest buying tickets to any show you might really want to see especially shows at the Bowery Ballroom. The Sub Pop showcase that used to be held there sold out almost every year.

My suggestion would be look for one or two shows you might want to try to hit after MMJ and then head to those. Most venues will end at 2am. IN the beginning of CMJ there were very few day parties but over the past few years they have started to add these. A great NYC resource for live music is brooklynvegan.com. He typically has a few day shows and all of them are typically worth seeing.

Also wondering if CMJ increases the likelihood of some special guests...

hey bigsky can you do me a huge favor since I can't make it out there?
It tis but a small request.  Whenever you or anyone you're around yells can instead of just wooing all the time can you throw in more than the usual "Fuck Yeah!!!!!!"'s for me? that's my favorite thing to yell at MMJ shows.  FUCK YEAH!!!! WOOO!.  maybe throw in a few loud OWW!!!'s for me.  My final request is that you look at Tom square in the face for me and mouth the words "Sticky Loves You" in slow mo when he's looking at you, if that's even possible.  If you could pull this off I should be able to converge my energy with all the chronic smoke that's in the air that night and mentally travel to venue.   The chronic smoke has to have the right amount of fuck yeahs and oww's tho in order for me to appear via chronic smoke.  Every single time you smell weed, even when you smoke it.  that's me.  right there under your nose, rocking hard.  real hard.  man I want to have a dancefest with you guys during cobra this year.  (plays tiny violin)

This could be more subjective, but from my experience, the marathon typically will have a genre "theme", and there's never been a name I would consider as big (hence the "smaller than SXSW" type feel). Plus CMJ is way more college oriented. One year it was decidedly emo-ish and I perhaps in my humble opinion, the bands sucked, hence no real big names.

As far as the selling out, I only say that because I've been in the city for shows and only found out I was at a CMJ showcase after the fact (Dirtbombs come to mind, I forget the venue). It was definitely more crowded all around, but I was really just wholly unaware of the fact I was in the middle of the marathon.

So I guess the lesson is, who knows? Or maybe, YMMV? (Is that the right lingo?)

Quoteyou know what, i respect Celine's fanbase more than I do MMJ's because none of Celine's fans smoke marijuana cigarettes during the show.
No they don't but maybe they should. After all, it is Celine Dion. I mean you have to smoke marijuana cigarettes (I'm laughing just typing that) to enjoy this.

[media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2o4FSkk7ak[/media]

That and I think her fan base is strung out from drinking the blood of their own children and the dead. If you enjoy this, you have no soul. No offense.

I am thinking Nancy is full of shit and just playing with our emotions...here's a response of his from a different thread: "yeah i know hes joking. so am i
i don't mind the smell of weed at all"

Negative Nancy (aka hacksaw) would get his ass kicked at any show if he acted like he says he would. I am wondering how old Nancy is, both physically and mentally...he might be looking for just some acceptance from his peers. Instead he seems to veil his true feelings with out-lashes of hate. Sometimes people just need a hug...maybe if we shower him with praise, he won't be so rash. With my 3 year old, I sometimes have to kneel down to her level, give her a hug, and just let her know that I care...

Booked the hotel yesterday! Midtown Manhattan, a few blocks from Central Park.
This is now real! One week is NYC in autumn is a hell of a trip,
add 5 historic shows by one epic band: possible life altering event!
And yes, a Box Set a few months later would be sweet (sorta like PJ in Philly last year)

After much deliberation, I've come to the conclusion that two shows isn't going to be enough. I've gotta get on board for It Still Moves.

However, the current hotel I'm staying at doesn't have a room available for the extra night. Anyone have any good suggestions for an affordable room on Thursday night? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Try The Riverside Tower Hotel. Its not the Ritz but it has affordable rooms and a decent location (can walk to T5, close to C Park). Book online though, as the desk says nothing is left. Hope this helps.  :)

hope we get to meet up again for these shows that will be filled with  crazy folks that might do something nuts like wait by the band's bus after the show just to say hello or wait for them to sign a poster.  people like that are nuts!

i love penny

also wanted to share a bit of the chat we had with Patrick's wife, Bridgid, after the show.  Seems she is having her own difficulty with getting off for the week of the T5 shows as she is a 6th grade teacher (in a catholic school).

Anyway, just wanted to share that -- just to communicate to those who aren't going to make it, even the drummer's wife is having a hard time trying to figure it out!  She was such a sweetheart, and I regret not getting a picture with her.

She also shared some wonderful insider information about Patrick's culinary skills and his 18 hour pulled pork recipe.........YUM.
I would seriously just love to hang out with these people. :)

So invite us all to the wedding Penny!

Trish - I agree with your thoughts and sentiments on Patrick's wife based on  that chat.

That conversation was one of the highlights of the post-show hangout.

Ok, I'm really starting to get itchy feet for this now. Why can't it be next week instead of six weeks away? It's too long...

QuoteWell it's official.  Just bought my flight out from Oakland>JFK.  Even though I've had show tickets since they went on sale, I've been somewhat in denial..the logistics are daunting.  But, I said eff it, and just bought my flights.  This is just going to be unbelievable.  I'll be flying solo for the first 2 nights (and Carl show), my lady will be joining me for the last 3!  Happy camper here.

Awesome for you and your lady!! Nice!

wish my lady friend was joining me   :-/

guess i'm single for the week... :D

I met her the same weekend I saw MMJ for the 1st time (High Sierra Music festival 06), we've been to both the Fillmore and MSG NYE's together.  There was no way I was heading cross country for this without her, although she's missing the first 2 nights.

that's crazy!!
i met my future husband at my first jacket show.
he's the singer.
you're a funny one, you!  ;D

I'm going to all 5.  Beth is only going to one, either the 1st or 2nd.   Someone needs to be home with my son and our dog and she is being mighty kind to me by saying you have to go to all 5!  I took her to Merriweather Post and Newport too so she is happy to let me have my moments or days as it will be.

Quotewell we really enjoyed hangin' with you as well.

by the way, guessing from your "quote" that you are a fan of Mr. Waits as well.  Never seen him live but LOVE his music.

See ya at T5!

good call, i love tom waits.  sounds like gravel but writes some of the most beautiful songs.  never seen him live either but that would be something else.  he's... ummmm.... quirky?

yes, see you @ T5!  thanks for the midnight ramble link in the other thread.  that's my birthday & i just bought myself an early present  :)  are you guys going?

so happy for you to get tix for this once-in-a-lifetime event and on your birthday as well!!! Amazing.  I didn't get tix and very sad but 5 at T5 will do nicely.  I have tix in October also to see the Avett Brothers, Gaslight Anthem and the Old 97s and this was just too hard to work out.

Love TW--especially his first 4 or 5 albums.  Never seen him live but have most of his records.

Guessing this will be about your best birthday ever!!!!  21 right?

hey capt,
there is a way to drink cheaply when you're OUTSIDE of T5. the meetup bar i found has great happy hour specials pre-show time (of course they charge an arm and a leg in T5 but who needs to waste time drinking and peeing during an MMJ show). also, you can find decently priced beers in any pub, just stay away from trendy places, lounges, a lot of the east village... you'll be able to tell the difference. there are a ton of bars in the west village that are cheap ...depending on what area of the city you're in, just look up pubs/bars and check different specials. i live here, i drink, and i'm pretty poor. it can be done.

Shall I bring some liquor, beer, weed and cigs to NYC from tax-free NH???  I will only charge 8 bucks a pack  :D.  Unless you have the service number in NYC its not that easy hooking medical grade.

I've been smoking much more weed ever since I quit cigs, which kinda sucks because it defeats the purpose of quitting to save money and I still immediately want a cig after getting high.  Its all good though, to tell you the truth quitting has been alot easier than I expected it to be.

hmm, perhaps you need to smoke a fatter joint?  when I was younger I smoked for awhile but quit too.  I agree with you, it was easy to quit but then again I didn't smoke two packs of reds a day or something either and had weed to smoke instead.

when you break down the science of what is actually happening and how long the effects last, a cig only gives you relief for about 10minutes.  the antsy feeling is the withdrawal.  Same with caffeine.  The buzz you get from coffee is generally from the withdraw process.  so it basically stresses your body out which makes your mind stressed.  the mind will always try and find loop holes and ways to make things easier.  I guess I just never understood the appeal other than people trying to look/feel cool or at class it was a social thing on break.  people would have a smoke and talk.  it's way easier to just get some herb, it gives me the stress relief I'm looking for and actually works.  buying nice pot that will last for a week is cheaper than getting drunk one night at a bar I suppose.  depending on the specials...

I also heard the tar in weed is heavier than the tar in cigarettes.  the weed tar attaches to the cig tar and when you hack your shit out sometimes the herb helps rid your lungs of the evil cig tar.  weed is healthy as fuck.

I'd love to quit my 2-4 butts a day but its hard.  I still want a butt after every bowl, mostly.  Obviously cannabis is a better and longer lasting high, but it is expensive unless you grow, which I can't currently.  My friend grows for me and a couple other key people, so its worth every penny when you get to pick what goes in the garden.
Butts also fill the void when I can't burn or cover me when I don't want to be exposed in public (cause its still a felony where i live). I just need to occupy those ten minutes with something else and more productive.  Smoking has become so criminal these days and parents are encouraging their kids to say in public "what stinks mommy?", "oh thats just someone killing themselves", "ewwww...".   When the hypocrite is the parent who used to smoke who no longer has compassion for anyone other than their family, or respect the rights of others to kill themselves if they want too.

You can take the cigs out of me but never the cannabis.

I highly recommend J.Mac's for T5 pregame festivities.

http://nymag.com/listings/bar/jmacs/

It is one street over, and you can cut through the parking garage making the trip a one-minute walk -- if that.

It's certainly divey, but the prices are low and the proximity is unbeatable.

it's easy to get around here. get a daily or weekly metrocard and a map w/all the key sites on it. also, manhattan is pretty small..not hard to walk everywhere, too...

I dig this idea.  Kinda makes the walk from Penn Station/FIT a bit more do-able   :)

QuoteSo I havent been to NYC in like 4 years and that was only for a night....Stuff is expensive there, right? I have a feeling Im going to drop $300+ just on booze over the entire week

hey capt,
there is a way to drink cheaply when you're OUTSIDE of T5. the meetup bar i found has great happy hour specials pre-show time (of course they charge an arm and a leg in T5 but who needs to waste time drinking and peeing during an MMJ show). also, you can find decently priced beers in any pub, just stay away from trendy places, lounges, a lot of the east village... you'll be able to tell the difference. there are a ton of bars in the west village that are cheap ...depending on what area of the city you're in, just look up pubs/bars and check different specials. i live here, i drink, and i'm pretty poor. it can be done.
:) ;)

what is the meetup bar you found??

At this point Im planning on staying with my cousin up there since she told me whenever I come to NYC I can crash there (but havent told her bout this yet  ::))....you think I'll be able to make it around town easy enough with the subway? I have no idea where she lives exactly

Capt, I can't find the old thread (maybe it's in this one a way's back, but here's the place) huge and cheap and centrally located:

McGhee's Pub
http://newyork.citysearch.com/profile/36913777/new_york_ny/mcgee_s_pub_and_restaurant.html

probably a 10 min walk to T5 (which is located in an area all the way on the west side w/not much over there)

not sure what everyone else is doing but a few of us are meeting up there before most of the shows

or jump on the A/C/E train to Columbus Circle.
it's close to central park, too (T5 is too for that matter) not too far

I have an extra for TTF.  I'll sell it for $30 + shipping (or I can meet you somewhere in NYC) which is a better price than Ticketmaster.  I can't make it that Monday night and I don't want to eat the price of the full ticket.  I'm also willing to trade the ticket for another NYC show- all offers considered. PM me!

Been a fan for the long haul... but 'Z' show at T5 will be the popping of my cherry!! Taking my lady and my sister... and we're all freaking out! Can't wait!

Terminal 5 is an awesome place!... seen a few shows there, most recent was Arctic Monkeys and the Mars Volta...

Wish I could see all 5... but one is better than none!

Enjoy your time everyone!
