That's really interesting.  Would a Dylan expert please explain what "rolling thunder revu era" means and why he painted his face white.  Thanks.

from reading the liner notes to Dylan's Live 75 album:

he gave many reasons out why he painted his face white but many suspect that it was too keep focus on the two most important parts of his face: his eyes and mouth. i think he also gave an answer to somebody that he saw it in a movie

Rolling Thunder Review played on Desire, the Fall 75 tour and the 76 tour......i def recommed picking up Bootleg Series 5...awesome tunes

I'm rendered speechless.  I wonder what Jim's role is gonna be?

I've never really been into Dylan, but I really want to see this.  Its also making me want to listen to some of this stuff.  Any recommended listenings?

duh... where to begin???

i'd go with greatest hit vol II.  usually i don't recommend greatest hits collections to begin but dylan's discography is so vast it's not a bad idea.  bootleg series vol 5 from the rolling thunder review or the basement tapes are probably the closest thing to mmj you'll hear.

blood on the tracks and highway 61 revisited are MUST haves for ANY self-respecting music fan.

Are these things that you can buy, or do you have to trade/download?

I'll concur that the following are must buys: Basement Tapes (with The Band), Blood on the Tracks (one of his best 70's albums and one of that decade's most important) and Highway 61 Revisited (with Mike Bloomfield, Al Kooper and other members of Electric Flag/Paul Butterfield Blues Band).

It's impossible to pick even a few Dylan albums, but take your pick from the excellent descriptions and reviews on All Music Guide. Note: Dylan started to fuck with his singing, turning into self-parody in the early 80's, but anything before that contains really solid and even excellent vocals.

I'll throw my hat in the ring with The Times They Are a-Changin', which has possibly my favourite Dylan song ("Boots of Spanish Leather").
