more to the point: who's bringing snacks?
Present!
Glad to see Im at least in your Top 10 favorite forum members ;) ;D
I was also just listening to TTF, and I came to the conclusion that Heartbreakin Man, Twilight, War Begun (obviously), and The Dark are going to be ragers because the rest of the show will mostly be pretty mellow. It was an extremely difficult hypotheses

That's true. Im really looking forward to this first night. I love the songs on this album. I've never heard anything from this album live yet.

not to demure, but when i think of hearing "Twilight" live the phrase "rock like a mother fucker" comes to mind. [smiley=beer.gif]
Cakes and pies cakes and pies!
Did somebody say steak?
I'm hungry. If I made cookies in the shape of either fire or bears, or fiery bears, would T5 stop me?

any speculation on what "additional" songs we're going to get this night?
Rocket Man, Lil Billy, ??
I'm pretty sure I'll be going to this show. I wasn't sure I'd have anyone to go with until my mom said "Why did't you ask me to go? I like them." Soo I'll probably be taking my mother to her first Jacket show. It's kind of funny since her favorite band is ABBA.
Aw, that's so cool! You're gonna have a great time. My mom's been begging me to take her to a Jacket show ;D

Yeah, I figured I'd take any extras off someone, so they're not stuck with an extra ticket, and as we all know; Ticketmaster is evil.
Add me to the guest list! Maybe a "Take My Breath Away" during the encore?

I've got a below face value ticket for this show if anyone is interested.
Add me + mom for sure. Got our tix! Yay!
I've got a favor to ask from fellow forumers who will be at TTF night. my flight doesn't get into JFK until 5:30 pm on Monday, then I have to make my way into the city, stash my luggage at a friends, suck back 4 beers and bolt to T5. I don't imagine I will be there until at least 7:30-8ish. If anyone might be able to grab me a poster, I'd gladly buy you a beer and give you cash for the poster when I get there. If the posters are crap, or there is a shitload of them, no worries, I can decide when I get there. But..if it's a beautiful masterpiece, and might sell out, I'd really appreciate some help. Gracias!
I could help you out with that.

Sitting at work trying to finish a report before I leave listening to TTF and realizing that in less than a week we'll all be watching this unfold before our eyes and ears! How the fuck am I meant to concentrate on the report knowing this?
If I don't get it done the powers that be won't be happy cause they're down on their luck and have lost touch with their bleeding hearts...! ;D

I agree. my wife and i are super excited for this trip. Gotta be there early for this show!!
Hi,
I'm new to this forum, but a longtime Jacket fan since seeing my first show in 2004. I've seen them many times since then, including Merriweather Post in May and Philly in August of this year.
I'll be coming up to T5 by myself for the first two shows. I can't be out of town long enough to catch all 5, and the first two are the most interesting to me due to the rarity factor (songs no longer in the repertoire) and the potential for interesting reinterpretations of the songs. Also, I THINK I AM GOING TO HELL and fucking STRANGULATION.
I'm currently going to the TTF show by myself, and then taking my 18 year old niece to At Dawn (also took her to New Years at the Garden a couple years ago).
It would be fun to get to meet some of you and hang out at the show. Is there a group of you that is going to get there early and either get right up front or get a railing spot on one of the balconies?
Anyway, it would be fun to get to meet some of you.
Would be a pleasure to meet and hang with you Mr. Whippy.
I was also at both Merriweather Post and Philly with my wife but am going to TF show solo. Planning on meeting up with many others from this forum at McGee's Pub (see another posting) by around 4:30 - 5:00 and then heading to T5 early enough to secure a good spot at the front of the stage.
The people on this forum not only have great taste in music but are also an exceptionally fun bunch of folks. Many of us will be at all 5 and I look forward to meeting you before the show!
Thanks for your reply! Sounds like a great plan.
I know that folks here have great taste in music, I've been lurking for a while!
ARG! Here's my predicament. I bought these tickets 4 months ago (morning the went on sale) and was completely elated to have the opportunity to see one of my favorite albums performed live in NYC.
The problem is I live in Virginia and to make it to the show would require some serious driving/busing on a VERY tight schedule. I would have to leave DC by bus at 7 am on Monday and leave NYC Tuesday night at 8 pm arriving in DC at midnight before hopping back in my car and driving 2.5 hours back to my Virginia home in time for work on Wednesday morning.
Please give me a pep talk or some sort of motivation to try and make this work. Or if anyone wants to buy two tickets also let me know. Sniff.

i assume you can't fly or take the train? might be faster giving you more time. it's doable!! just lots of caffeine once you hit DC tues night.
Me and the wife are getting into the city on Monday, we'd love to join the party!

I'm coming from DC as well, taking the DC2NY bus. I don't really understand your situation. Why do you have to leave from DC so early on Monday, it's only 4.5 hours? Also, why are you sticking around all day in NYC on Tuesday if you are not seeing the show that night.
In terms of needing a pep talk, these chances to see full albums performed are rare and sometimes require sacrifice if it really means alot to you.
Last year, when Springsteen announced he was performing The Wild, the Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle at Madison Square Garden, I drove up from DC for it. After the show I had to drive all night back to DC to catch a 7 AM flight the next morning to Seattle for a business trip. It was brutal but that was a once in a lifetime thing to get to see. Seeing TTF may be the same kind of thing.
GivenToFly and I will be getting into the city sometime Monday afternoon, depending on how long it takes to check into our hotel ($200 for the whole week at the Newark Airport Sheridan, worth taking the bus). Must have listened to TTF 10 times in the past week, can't freakin' wait...
I will be there. I think I will be very drunk during this show like the rest of your dirty hippies. This is MMJ's weakest and most boring album and it's going to be a real snoozer live but a partys a party right?
Will possibly be looking to fight anybody who is smoking reefer anywhere near me...

Also, "Rocket Man". It's gonna happen...

Hey guys- I am a semi-irregular poster. I have been a big fan for close to 10 years now. I JUST moved to Brooklyn.
I hope to meet some of you. I will try one of these meet-ups for sure.

That's what cabs and meds are for. ;) I'd check with the venue. Most places, even GA only, either have or will make safe room for disabled patrons.

Thinking about checking out this jazz bar a friend recommended. Open til 5am, live music nightly "and late night jam sessions", pool, etc. Sounds like a nice post-show hangout.

Yea and mom said this morning.. "we'll take a bus and then just take a cab from there.". And now I already promised the tickets to someone. I have to give them tonight. If they back out, (which I doubt) then that's a sign and I'll definitely be going.

This time tomorrow!

Awesome.
My father knows nothing of My Morning Jacket except what he saw on American Dad. When I told him where I was going this week and that Jim James is the man, he looked at my mom and said, "He puts on his pants one leg at a time."

good luck! i know a lot of PTs & one of them said he wore as ittle clothes as possible when he took his boards, so that he could reference himself. like - sandals, no socks, shorts & a wife beater or some craziness. he said it helped. may be a bit chilly for that kind of gear tho, huh?

Hey Ghost, I have a broken foot and am in a cast. Thing is that I am walking in the boot and no longer need crutches yeah ;D. I was gonna bring em to get me into a more comfortable position if need be. I rocked out wayyy to hard in Portland and will need to chill later this week at the shows. Is the handicap area in a good spot or what? I am planning on cabbing and/or subway from the meadowlands area. I am not into exploring the city unfortunately, there is so much to do but I have priorities!!!
thanks man
I'm gonna burn the midnight candle waiting for updates. My envy towards all those there! Have fun. ;)
First update... Got here at 8 before dungen and the posters were already sold out! If anyone bought an extra they would like to pawn off I'll be here all week! Would greatly appreciate!!! Anyway dugen is on and Mmj at 9:15

Way better show than I expected. I'm at a bar in lower east Manhattan right now drinking whiskey singer/songwriter David Bazan. Just an absolutely ridiculous night.
Can someone post the set list if you got it?

Johnny Quaid was there too? Damn. Maybe the next night will have Danny Cash or J. Glenn sitting in.

This band just continues to impress me more and more and more....the show was really beautiful, and I do believe I shed a tear during "I will be there when you die".....just gorgeous.
Don't even get me started with Tyrone...all I can say is that Bob is indeed a lucky man that I went home with him last nite :) lol just kidding!
See you At Dawn babies!!! ;D ;D ;D
last night was truly epic! it felt like a whole week's worth of fun in one night! can't wait to do it again tonight :D
p.s. cheers for free wifi
Any evidence of the show being professionally videotaped?
I still can't hear a damn thing, there were moments last night that can only be described as a wall of sound. Those guys really shouldn't put 3 guitars on the stage at a time, they're gonna hurt someone. Got there early to secure a rail spot but this guy behind me came all the way from Japan so I asked him if he wanted to switch spots for a bit. You travel trans-continental you deserve some decent pics, right?
1 down, 4 to go...

I did a twitter search for MMJ before the show and someone said they were "privileged to shoot My Morning Jacket at the Terminal 5"
not sure what that meant.
Sorry I missed all you folks, especially those of you expecting shirts. I'm going to do my best to get to McGee's tonight with the shirts. I have to finish a 20 page paper fiirst, so if I don't for some reason make it, I will hopefully be parked on 55th again, on the block opposite the venue (btw 10th and 11th). So we can meet after the show maybe, or on the walk over from the bar.

It was awesome to see everyone having a good time. I didn't even have one alcoholic beverage at the show (didn't wanna risk having to pee) except for one that another fan bought me and we ended up sharing. cute, i know.
Meeting all the random forum members was cool, in a very nerdy sorta way.
I took a bunch of photo - maybe I'l put up the best ones after the weeks over.
Unfortunately, I didn't see any professional video cameras anywhere. But I heard there were a couple tapers in the back.
I spoke with Danny Clinch. He's the guy that filmed MMJ @ Preservation Hall and told me there will be a DVD of that. WOOOOOOT!

Great hair. I wondered how you get it to do that.
Yeah, there are usually 4-5 setlists, right? I knew there were more coming.
My hair?! ha. It's never this long. I've grown it out a lil for a special occasion.
Funny, I saw someone who was friends with one of the stage hands get passed a couple copies of the setlist - though they were pristine and obviously just back-ups, not the real thing like ours (nerd alert!)

Good to see you too!
No, I wish I was now. I had so much fun last night.
went to sleep with a big smile on and ringing ears.
woke up with a big smile and the ringing was gone. wow, wow, wow.
Tyrone and I will be there were the big highlights for me but everything was special and the covers were a blast.
AWESOME hanging with you good folks at McGee's-- BIG THANKS to Penny for being the director and bringing it all together. Looking forward to seeing all you guys again later today.
Liz, BrOOke and Woodnymph, thanks for taking good care of me up at the Stage.
Simply cool and amazing to meet so many great folks who travelled so far to be here.
This is gonna be a week that none of forget anytime soon (if ever).
Got a couple of setlists from the lighting guys last night, so if anyone wants one look for me at McGees
It's not the same as having one of the guys in the band hand it to you, but I guess I could make some copies if people want one.
I'm typically not one for hyperbole but as of today, I can safely say that it was the best Jacket show that I have ever seen. But again, tonight may change that. It's safe to say that the crowd was awesome and you could really tell that so many were diehards. I'm really gonna try to soak in tonight also because I know the crowd demographics will change drastically over the last three shows.
Thanks to all the fellow fans and forum peoples that made this show one to remember. [smiley=beer.gif]

A couple? Why not take one and leave the others for other fans at the show? Just curious.

oh the irony.
glad everyone had a great time last night. sounds like it was a blast, literally.
eric- would love a setlist if you have an extra. thanks
Who was up front with Steam Engine passing around the whiskey? Can't remember your forum name...bobajob or something?
That was generous of you. It was great to finally be at a show with Ky and Lady..Haldon and Capt H were getting groovy back there.
What a great night and great people. Glad I didn't see that Olsen twin, she annoyed me when she used to say "You got it, dude"...

I didn't realise there were two there when he handed them to me. I don't think he did either. I'm not sure how but they were kind of stuck together and just felt like a thicker copy.
Had I known, I certainly would have only taken one, and that's why I posted the extra here. ::)

haha i gotcha. for some reason when you said "got a couple of setlists" i imagined you leaving with like 4 or 5 setlists in hand. i didn't even stop to think that that would make no sense.
either way, cool of you to offer it up to others. always love getting a setlist from a show I was at.
Yeah, ease up guys! ha. ericm when I walked by you and said, "you got a couple!" :)

We're cool here . No problems and I guess the "couple" would raise an eyebrow. I don't have a problem being asked about getting them.
I could imagine there would always be that guy scurrying around from corner to corner grabbing everything in sight.
Thankfully that's not me, and the only reason I put that smiley in my response was because I thought me offering up the extra would show that.
No problem and as I said if anyone else wants one, I'll make copies before I come up tonight, since headhunter has dibs on the other one from last night.
Eric, much appreciated. Sorry for your headaches. My guess is anyone on this forum who has met you for 5 minutes knows you are a very stand up guy.

Sounds like an epic time had by all. Keep up the good work. I'll see most of you on Saturday, all thanks to Jeff/headhunter. If he hasn't told you, he is giving me a ticket and a place to crash so I can make at least one T5 show. I cannot thank him enough, so I will embarrass him here, instead.

john, saturday is gonna be big fun and i expect you will receive a warm welcome from the gang at mcgees before we get on line over at T5. You have many friends here who are looking forward to your arrival and sharing a special night.

Hey Guys.
How was the sound last night?
I saw someone on the BV article comment about how bad he sound was...
I've seen a few shows there and always thought it sounded fine.
I'll be at the shows on Thurs and Friday.

Have a great time tonight, tomorrow night, Thursday night, and Friday night. Shit, what am I missing?
If only this was happening in the summer months, when we public school teachers get a couple of months to recharge our batteries.
Still, I've had a good Jacket year in 2010- Newport FF, Vermont, Portland, opening for Petty, the first 3 in April, meeting YY, meeting all 5 at the hotel, a solid conversation with Bo, autographs, no arrests, no heart attacks. Can't wait to meet you, Jeff, and see some familiar faces and the faces of some familiar forum folks.
Rock on!

Nice bump on this thread...I can't believe it's been 2 years. It's time for MMJ to release the T5 box set...;)
damn 2 years already. such a great week.
I haven't had a better week since that magical time in october 2 years ago.
Great bump Trish! TTF was an amazing night, and sits right at the top of my favorite of the five. All of them were great, but this night just blew me away.
That T5 week ranks right up there with the best concert weeks ever for me. The music, city, meetups, and great forum friends will always hold a special place in my heart. Even if they do a T5 with all six albums, that week in 2010 will be awfully hard to top.
Almost forgot to mention the posters. Five classics,IMO, and that collection is my most prized artwork in my home.
:: waits patiently for the box set ::
Happy anniversary, everyone!

I have to (re-)live the days vicariously through the forum crowd since the wife and I didn't go due to other plans later in the year. I don't regret our decision, but still would have been cool to see the band for 5 days.
Sweet bump! What a great time and it's so fun to revisit it.

What a wonderful bump!
It was two years ago yesterday that the Ramble changed my life forever. Two years ago today, I was visiting Rick Danko's grave before departing for the city.
What a magical week. I am glad the Tennessee Fire thread got bumped because I still believe this was the best night. I know, it's hard to compare your beautiful children, but the first one always means a little more.
I've never felt more HAPPY at a concert than I did two years ago tomorrow. So many songs we'll probably never hear again. So much beauty. So much ROCK!
Thank you for this nostalgic bump. It has really brightened my day thinking of all the wonderful memories from that beautiful week in October!
Great Bump.
Was my favorite show of the 5 nights

I had forgotten about that "interview" (if that's what you can call it). I'd love to find that video if anyone has it, or knows where to find it.
Also my favorite album performance of the four that I saw (I missed ISM night).
Also fun to have met some of you for the first time that night.

Ah, like it was yesterday... two years ago I wished, so hard, that I could go. Got to reread all my posts wishing you well while I stewed up here, jealous as shit. Has it been only two years? Grrrrrrrrrr.
Sorry, had to get that off my chest, as I DID just reread all my posts from two years ago. In truth, it mostly brought back good memories of the week leading up to meeting every one of the crazy ass forum folks that have become my rock 'n' roll family. From headhunter, willing to provide a ticket and a place to crash to a virtual stranger, to crossing the street and...
I digress, and should save this memory for Oct. 23, next Tuesday, my only 2-year anniversary from T5, a very special day indeed.

Awe ~ it was truly a magical week! I have been listening to the audience recording of Tennessee Fire today. Fantastic to hear the excitement of the crowd which includes many of us here. One of the best weeks of my life and so happy to have shared it with many of you that I had connected with for the first time that week if not in the few years leading up to these shows!!! I believe it is when the forum became a family....
have to add thanks to the two people who did this recording, i even enjoy their conversation during By My Car, though I might have not if i was actually standing next to them during this show. And also a thanks to our boys for doing T5 the happiness you bring goes beyond the music you make!!!!
Re-watching/re-living some of the videos from the first night, and one of the things that just slams me in the face is how absolutely silent the crowd is during the slower/more mellow songs.
I feel like there are so many concerts these days where fans feel the need to talk/chat/yell during the show or if they are unfamiliar with the song, and that extra noise really ruins the moment.
There were times during that first night and a few of the nights which followed, where the venue was absolutely silent except for the music...and it created such a magical feeling....i want it again
Haldon, you said it -- the silence is what made night one the best concert I've ever seen. As the week went on, I feel like the shows were infiltrated by some rather boisterous "fans". But night one, I feel like it was all us. People who just wanted to hear the music. During "I Will Be There When You Die", there was a moment where there were no WOOs. No YAAAAHs. No clapping. No sneezing. No coughing or throat clearing. No drinks clinking. It was just beautiful, beautiful silence. I've never heard that at a concert before or since. It was magic.
Like many others...my fav of the 5 as well. So... Effin..... Awesome!
Seeing The Walkmen at Terminal 5 tonight. Just seems like the right thing to do  Not quite MMJ but it'll do ;)

Not to beat a dead horse...but the jacket bracket attack just made me remember that they played I Just Wanted to Say that night too...and I also have a distinct memory that it was really quiet during that song, and it was really beautifully done....that is all
I wasn't able to attend any of T5 but the final night (Evil Urges and Beyond). However, I recently re-discovered a CD I'd made from all available audio from T5, including the official releases and audio rips from YouTube vids. I will rip and upload that CD and post a download link here later. The silence during certain tunes, particularly night one (TTF) is stunning. As stated for another stellar recording, this is REQUIRED LISTENING!
download link coming...
as i mentioned right after the show somewhere in this thread, this was the show for diehards. the crowd had such a different energy about them and were all about the music.
there just wasn't the usual crews of obnoxious talkers etc.

stunning! grazie JY!
Does anyone know if a full recording if this night ever surfaced? Still can't find anything. I know of the night one compilation on YouTube but that is still missing quite a few songs.
This is everything I have from the week. One file contains all the audio rips from video for TTF, another has the rips from AD, one has the 10 official T5 releases, and one file has jpegs of the poster art. I know of no other T5 audio out there.
Live from T5 (http://www.mediafire.com/?hd59smu4fpuza9m)
you are so good to us JY! thank you!
Probably the best show I've ever seen. NO ONE knew what they were about to be suckerpunched with before It's About Twilight Now started. That single song rocked harder than any single song has ever rocked before or since.
Thanks Yac! This will be the closest thing to being there some of us will get until the fabled box set comes out.
