count me in. Anyone ever been to this place? I can't find a seating chart, if one even exists!
Ok, just did some research and it's looking like a GA venue. Used to be an amusement park, I don't know if it still is.
I'm probably going to try to make this show. Can't say for certain that I can or will make it.

It is an old amusement park (some of it burned down in 2002), and it's at the base of Mt. Tom, a small ski hill. I found these picture of a concert there...
Walking up to the venue, it looks nice...right in the woods

Just picked up my tix. Haven't been to this venue yet. This show is GA, but some shows have seated sections. Is it safe to assume they clear the seats out for GA shows? Or does GA just mean open seating?
hey im new to this whole forum thing but anyway i was wondering if anyone new any good bars near the show since the email i got from them stated "NO TAILGATING"?

I don't know about the parking/tailgating situation, but will definitely be looking for a preshow gathering of the forum faithful. Pre-Birmingham and Nashville were at bars, since the shows were in downtown locations. My guess is there won't be much real close to this place, so we may have to be sure and bring some Solo cups.
If anyone has done a show at this venue, would love to hear about parking lot atmosphere, security, police, helicopters, DEA agents, lemonade stands, kissing booths, swimming pools, mud pits, etc.
Also, I need to head home directly after the show, as my school year begins the next morning at 8am. If anyone knows of nearby, off-site parking so I can make a quick exit, t'would be appreciated.

I am thinking there might not being anyone who's been to a show here...it was just opened last August...it's a spankin new venue.
...it looks like it's a couple of miles from the town center...we can always hide in the woods & talegate... ;D

hey im always good for a little woods drinking i mean i am coming from NH so im no stranger! i was just curious if anyone had been to a show there an knew what the vibe of the place was like so whatever the meet up is im down!
This is a new venue but Iron Horse is promoting the show so it should be tailgating friendly. Iron Hose Rules! Went to see Wilco at Look Park 2 yrs ago and I think this should be close. I actually thought it was the same place but this is indeed a new venue. Its in the woods so it will be a blast. I hope I can get back up North for this show.

I used to go to Mt. Tom when I was a kid and Mountain Park is towards the base. If the venue is elevated enough, we should have a sweet view of the Connecticut River Valley. I was bummed to find out that Mt. Tom is closed (it closed a couple of years ago); there is a water park & alpine slide there. It would have been sweet to play all day and then go to the show.
Here's Kennedy on the slide:

haha no they finally gave it up unfortunately! now the new thing for the square was to have topless girls carry guns around, i mean you gotta protect those amendments haha
They moved to Manchvegas and Derry (of all places), I saw some news about a April 20th, 2010 gathering in Manchester, of course it was peaceful. I applaud their efforts, they just couldn't put a good political face on it. That shit won't happen in this Nanny State! Where the governor hides behind families, police officers, and casino owners to further his agenda. Time to go Flynch! Alright, thats enough of my political opinions. Bring on the 'Yoke, so I can toke!

As I said in another thread, having G. Potter open for MMJ will finally give me the bargaining chip needed to get a coworker to live MMJ. Maybe. I just hope the addition of opening acts doesn't short change us on MMJ's set. Man, I am selfish!

I'm hoping this just means the show starts earlier...the venue is also in the woods, so maybe the curfew is later.
the tickets say 5:30 doors, 7 pm start - so I don't see any time issues luckily!
Very psyched for Grace Potter - been listening to her for years. My dad likes her a lot, plays her and shows me youtube clibs regularly - I think he's proud as a 70 yr old he's into someone current- but I'll give him credit, he got me into her.

That's funny. My Dad, 74, has accepted and even enjoys the G. Dead and P. Floyd, but to get him into MMJ I've had to transition him from his Glenn Miller/Duke Ellington jazz mindset towards MMJ by way of Preservation Hall. He's digging the youtube vids of YY doing Louisana Fairytale, seeing them play collaboratively w/MMJ, etc. Next up is Acoustic Chorale, then a mix CD. Gotta plan these brainwashings.
Not sure if I could get him into Grace Potter. Maybe if I showed him a picture first. ;)
I find this one particularly sexy, though I think it might be the flying V! Is that the Jim James model?
Regarding G. Potter, I am totally psyched to see her and doubt the presence of an opening band will deter from a solid showing by the Jacket. I'm guessing curfews aren't the issue here. I say we rock 'til the sun rises!

I saw the Flaming Lips at this venue last weekend, and unfortunatetly, the venue is kind of a disapointment. If you park inside the venue (which is free), tailgating is NOT allowed which was a major bummer. Some people were parking on the street leading up to the park, but those spots are limited and I doubt the police would allow tailgating. Instead you'll have your choice of $7 Magik Hats and Bud Lights. Not sure who this will matter for, but security was on the look-out for pot during the entrance, and I had a small amount confisgated from me, but was still allowed in. I did however see some people smoking, so you can get it in if you're clever (don't use cig packs). Besides that, it's not a bad place to see a show. You can either stand in the main lawn and get pretty close to the stage, or you can bring a lawn chair and sit up on the hill and have a good view. It's not really close to any bars or anything like that (the closest big city, Springfield, is awful), so you'll have to do your drinking at the park.
Thanks for the info, good to know what to expect. We will have to make other arrangements and not hide out in my cig pak.
QuoteThanks for the info, good to know what to expect. We will have to make other arrangements and not hide out in my cig pak.
Maybe we can hide in the woods with all the other monkeys...
Anyone local willing to host a pre-show gathering for Forum faithful? We could meet off-site and carpool to the free parking at the park. I've got to leave right after the show for a 2 drive home and my first day back for the new school year the next morning. Maybe a local bar we could take over, like the place in Birmingham (Seth, what was that bar?). Anyway, for a GA show, mayhaps this is a sign to just get to the rail ASAP.

QuoteFiddleCastro is totally out. :(
Totally NO! I was hoping for some dueling Omnichord. What happened? Not that its any of my business, but I was looking forward to meeting FiddleC in person.
:'(
Did we figure out a "tailgating" alternative yet?
I don't think a pre-show plan has been devised. I'll be lazy and not look back to previous posts. I seem to recall the lot for tailgating isn't so good. I'm not staying after the show, so we can't have a pre-show party in my hotel room. No one local has offered his/her property for pre-show festivities. So, what next? I'll do some research, but if anyone has insight, speak up, as its just over a week away!!!
"Absolutely no high backed chairs or chaise lounges, pets, coolers, food or beverage, or glass of any kind."
Inside the venue, doesn't say we can't all meet up somewhere in the parking lot and have some beverages. But that's just my loose interpretation of the website ;D

I may be getting there late, myself, coming from Laconia, NH where my mom is undergoing surgery, so I'm eager to be in on plans to meet up with folks. My plans to do custom t-shirts for this August run of shows isn't happening, so I'll probably sport one from my April tour.

Some of you may have heard my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. She's scheduled for surgery next Wednesday. I can't, in good conscience, leave for this show if she's not fully out of surgery and recovery, even though she said she's cool with me going.
I have made an offer of my ticket to a forum member who has not gotten back to me yet. He still gets first dibs. However, if anyone would like a shot at this ticket, PM or email me. I'll be at the Saturday MMJ/Petty show in Mansfield, MA and tomorrow's show in VT, so I could hand it over then.

So, I was rockin' out to MMJ at the Petty show last night and a guy came up and joined me. Said he could see I appreciated MMJ, unlike many around us. We got to talking, I figured him to be worthy, and gave him my Holyoke ticket. He asked, "How much?" I said, "Happy Birthday!" He freaked, opened his wallet, and showed me his license. His birthday was two days ago. He did get me a beer, etc.
Anyway, look for a cool dude named Jeff, sent to Holyoke by johnnYYac, and make sure he leaves with face sufficiently melted, in my absence.

So I am trying to see what people want to do as far as a meet-up. It looks like a pre-show gathering might be tough...at least for me; I will be going in to see Grace Potter. May be we can meet near the stage during GP.
In honor of JohnYYac and his mother, I suggest we all wear Groucho glasses. These are pretty cheap and easy to find. I also think it would be a great photo with all of us wearing them. On that note, I think it should be our mission to get MMJ to wear them with us for a grand photo. That would be too funny.
So who's still coming and up for being silly???
If I need to I will bring extra pairs of glasses.
Current weather forecast for Holyoke, MA:
"Wednesday: Showers possible. Highs in the low 70s and lows in the low 60s."
I am thinking this rain will be over before the show...but MMJ & mud is always fun too.

Anyway, look for a cool dude named Jeff, sent to Holyoke by johnnYYac, and make sure he leaves with face sufficiently melted, in my absence.
You the man Johnny! This is Jeff, first time on this forum thanks again to Johnny. I will def be rockin' out in your absence.
"Every action of our lives touches on some chord that will vibrate in eternity."
You've got the karma on your side. Hope all goes well.
Alright, Jeff! I knew you were gonna come through. Represent and have a blast! Report back to headquarters with a post-show review. My best to your lovely wife, Mica (right? spelling?). Thanks to you, I had to have my brother drive us home after the Petty show Saturday night. It was goooooooood!
;)
Sorry to hear about your Mom Johnny--best of wishes to you and her in her recovery (positive vibes). Was hoping to cross paths witcha at this venue. Its a cool place, tho' maybe not quite as nice as the VT venue.
BTW--I'm in

"Tomorrow night: Rain showers early with mostly cloudy conditions late. Low 62F. Winds NNW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 50%."
So are we doing anything for this show? Groucho glasses? Something else?
I'm so excited... :D
It seems like I'm the only one pumped for this show...where is every body!
I literally cannot wait...I have butterflies.
My friend and I should arrive around 5:15 to pick up our tickets and get in when the doors open at 5:30. Hopefully this will get us a spot up front. We are both also SUPER pumped for Grace Potter and the Nocturnals as this will be our 4th time seeing them.
Any guesses on what song MMJ will open with?
This won't happen but I always thought Smokin' From Shootin' would be the perfect opener.
First off. I registered just now.
I'm working toward heading over to mountain park for the show.
Love Grace Potter and MMJ.
Of course I have kids and more to the point a wife who will need to
stay home to watch said kids while I go out to play.
That's the tricky part.
Plus it looks like we will prolly see some rain and as usual I'm on
2 wheels. Knees in the breeze.
Peace.
yeah, the forecast is a major bummer. Only the stage is covered, none of the seating!

Welcome to the forum...
I also have two kids, but I'm bringing my wife and getting the mother-in-law to baby-sit. Does 2 wheels mean motorcycle or wheelchair or both? Being EasyRider it must be motorcycle. I was coming home from VT (not the MMJ show) on Sunday and saw a biker riding in the rain with only 1 glove...his other hand looked pretty cold.
I am hoping the rain will be done by show time...but I am ready for anything.

If recent history is a guide, it's Tonite I Want To Celebrate or Rollin' Back (tease). If I get a vote, it'd be At Dawn or The Bear.
They could open, close, and encore w/ Smokin' From Shootin' and I'd be content.
I'm hoping the rain and clouds blow away before gates tomorrow night or else I may be flying solo (li'l woman not up for a cold rainy outdoor show >:(). I'm packing a poncho just in case....
Maybe we could start a forum Woodstockesque "No Rain" chant(?)
rain?? bah!!
I will be there. It's my first MMJ show and I can barely stand the excitement!!! Feel free to say hello if you want! I also pass around the bowl for everyone!
ok, we need a plan to all meet up later and we have all day to do it....let's get this goin!!!
Just checked NOAA and it looks like we'll duck the rain.
Chances of rain are highest before around 2pm. Less later.
Yeah I'll be riding my motorcycle.
I ride often in the rain. But it's something
to think about. It's about an hour and a half from where I work to Mountain
Park and then about two and a half hours to home afterwords.
Doing that in a downpour at night on unfamiliar roads is something to
think about.
My Kids are 7 and 2 so bringing them is pretty much out. In fact according to the venue's website no kids under 6 are allowed.
Thanks Bigsky.
Glad to be hanging.
Todays forecast at Holyoke MA from the NOAA website.
Today: A chance of rain. Areas of fog before 2pm. Otherwise, cloudy, with a high near 69. North wind between 7 and 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
Tonight: A slight chance of rain. Areas of fog after 5am. Otherwise, cloudy, with a low around 59. North wind between 4 and 7 mph becoming calm.

F-ing broken foot, I am out for this show :'(. I need to be sensible and recover. Just means Portland will have to happen right before NYC. At least I have Essex to remember, what a show! Have fun peeps and be safe, don't rock out too hard or you'll break your foot! Believe me!!! So no AXG and friends on the roll call.

I'm "officially" in.
But it's a trade. The wife insists that I have to take her and the 7 year old to Avitar 3d which is re-opening this weekend.
I'm good with that. I didn't see it the first time round.
Win win.
:D :D
Well it seems like the grouch glasses might not be a favorite (since I got no response). What if we just print out this image (see below) and hold it up? I also think we could meet inside near the stage during the opener. What are people thinking...

Sooooo pumped. Although the boys rocked so hard last week opening to TP, it seemed like a tease. Would love to hear an At Dawn opener just as the rain stops or something equally mystical. Having said that, I would also like to hear the Rollin' Back intro because that tune has been blowin my mind as of late.
Honestly, they could play fuckin' Hot Cross Buns on a recorder and I'd probably shit my pants in excitement.

I'm seriously pumped now.
Yes it's my first MMJ show.
Prepared to be gobb smacked.
I've heard of awesomeness.
the rain will keep away the non-believers!
ARE YOU READY, ARE YOU READY FOR THE JACKET!!!!!!!!!,
SHRED IT JIM, TEAR US A NEW ONE, MAKE ME BLEED>>>>

I can hear the insects buzz on the leaves
This will be my first time seeing the boys outside...we'll all be a bunch of animals in the woods.
Are we meeting up at all?

I think by the stage makes the most sense...then we are there up front for MMJ. The smokin' will start naturally... :D
I'll be holding the picture of the bear from my earlier post...

bigsky - would love to - just being non-commital because my plans are uncertain. But your enthusiasm is contagious and it will be you and I singing circuital the loudest, I suspect. I'll post again from the road with an ETA
Hows about identifying what you're wearing (i.e. "Look for this shirt")
I'll prolly either have my Jim James/Jim Beam shirt (has "JACKET" on the front and a Jim Beamesque label on the back) OR the old green MMJ tee shirt from the "Louisville Parks Department" complete w/ marshmallow toasting skeletons ;)
I'll be wearing a tee shirt with a picture of a monkey drinking his own pee with a bowler hat and a kilt. Doc martin boots.
Sorry couldn't resist.
Jeans, black shirt. Leather coat. I blend. Sorry if I thought of it I would have worn something unique.
Actually just look at my avatar.
Not too far off.

I know! Reenie will be there tonight representing.
It sucks I am missing all these Jacket shows. They played 3 miles from me last night and I couldn't go. I had a free ticket and a ride.
I gave away my damn Philly ticket because for some odd reason, my classmate is getting married on a SUN NIGHT (she's not even Jewish, ..who gets married on a SUN!)
I have so much pent up MMJ longing, I can't be responsible for the T5 shows.
Done venting. Carry on in all your weird outfits tonight!

This place is definitely anti tailgate. 4:45 and lot is closed!
yo deathstick how's the venue looking, is it wet/messy/etc? i'm leaving in a few and am unsure what to wear/bring. it's still raining in boston, but i'm hoping the forecasts are correct and we have a dry night. how's it looking?
Misting a bit atm.....bit breezy and cloudy. Sweatshirt weather definitely
Have fun.
Dance between the raindrops!
I'm here with 'the lurker'.......rainin might keep the crowds away and my tube is in the car....awesome pposter too!
anyone know what time mmj goes on?
830 according to the venue...
shit - leaving boston in a few and will be definitely cutting it close.

I remember Mahgeeta as the big closer on Okonokos, but when they opened with it at my first show in Boston '08, I creamed me pants.
One Big Holiday is the kinda go-to closer since it was born, but it opened each of my three-show run in April; again, had to change my underwear.
Steam Engine makes a great opener because it makes a great closer. The very first "So!" is an amazing way to kick start a show, IMHO. Oh, damn, gotta go. I did it again just imagining it...
:-[
I prefer my Steam Engine earlier in the set. Opener must have been sweetness.
just got in from mountain park, great show, much energy, nice venue, steamy night. Great mix of old and new.... I am now shot.
Great venue and an awesome crowd. No security whatsoever and everyone was well behaved and had an amazing time. The band was dead on as usual and talking to Tommy and Patrick after the show they said it was one of their favorites so far. It certainly showed as they were dead on tonight.
here's the setlist:

shit, the setlist tweet has honest man, where to begin, AND hell on it. did they really play all of those??? if so, what an awesome set.

I must say, it was a sweet set, it really looked like they where having some real fun.... Not that they don't all the time, real intimate night.
WOW - the boys were so on tonight. They certainly came to rock hard. Just about keeled over when Steam Engine started - my worry was it was going to be some sort of intro like Rollin Back which would have been the mother of all teases. But no, we got the whole song in all it's epic goodness.
The setlist was just phenominal - I posted on another thread that each show seemed to get one rarity - well, thought we'd seen it with Where to Begin, which was just brilliant. Didn't seem like many in the crowd knew it but completely won everyone over with the big buildup.
But then try following that with: LOWDOWN, HONEST MAN, EASY MORNING REBEL, and THINK I'M GOIN TO HELL? Not only great songs, and semi-rarities, but such hard rockers. The band didn't stop.
Thought we were getting Bermuda Highway, which was the song my concert buddy Sean most wanted to hear. But the acoustic intro turned into Wonderful (a great song in its own right). So imagine our surprise when Jimmy came out to start the encore with Bermuda Highway. I can see now it wasn't on the setlist - I guess a last minute addition but the story typifies what I'm talking about - just that kind of night.
Our other partner in crime was a complete MMJ newbie. His two comments were "wow these guys are tireless" about halfway through, and "guess I'll be spending a lot of time on iTunes" when the show ended. Mission accomplished.
When I emailed the JohnnYY that I was on the rail, "on the speaker" would have been a better description. I was leaning on a huge bass PA speaker and every time the kick drum hit I was knocked back a little. Took me about 10 minutes to convince myself I was going to be ok here and that I wasn't doing damage to myself. Then I survived until the Run Thru and Lay Low sections which almost stopped my heart. By the way I much prefer adding on the Lay Low jam instead of just ending w/ Touch Me II. Such a hard rockin' finale. But the most "worrisome" part was the beginning keyboard of Wordless Chorus - honestly it felt like my insides were being scrambled. I think these speakers usually hang overhead, no?
In summary, fantastic night. I was semi-on-the-fence with Petty last week and NYC coming up, long drive, bad weather, etc... but THANK GOODNESS I went. Seventh time seeing them and I still saw 3 songs for the first time (and circuital for the 2nd time which I say is a winner). Great Setlist while the Band Was On Fire = Magical Night.

Could not have asked for a better setlist, venue, or performance last night. Before this tour started, I never thought I would get to hear Where to Begin or I Think I'm Going to Hell in this life. Honest Man and Easy Morning Rebel were great surprises as well and both were incredibly rockin.
I managed to get pretty close, the closest I've ever seen them. What a difference it makes to see Jim grinning and feeding off the crowd's energy.
Phew, two shows down and one more to go in Philly on Sunday!

This is one of the reasons that I got hooked! I was explaining to ynwa and tdb that there are certain bands that act like they are there for just a job and nothing more. You can sense that, and that really ticks me off. But seeing MMJ live I could just feel that they were there to have FUN and that they were indeed having fun. Love it!
:D
Happy you guys had a great night!
In terms of posters, the setlist link posted above shows a glimpse of the poster. Wasn't my favorite of all time but a must-buy due to my attendance. It's an owl over a woman's face and done by madpixel (same that did the appalachian voices). It's not up on their website as of now. I'll get a pic up tonight. I'm just relieved it made it home in one piece, and dry.
Really special setlist. Awesome that so many of you here got to see that show. It's great to see them continue to slowly trickle in the rarities throughout this leg. Seems like Pitt and Philly are gonna be treated nice. T5 cannot come soon enough.
Awesome! Thanks for the review mahg33tah!
Goddamn broken foot is all I have to say, "I hate you, foot!". Man, you win some you lose some. This show was a winner, I just couldn't do it. When you lose the use of one of your appendages, you are awarded with 50% mobility, good times! I will never take my foot for granted ever again! Sorry for telling you off, foot. My bad...
other random thoughts:
the end of Where to Begin was brilliant - great jam that took the song well beyond the recorded version
pretty sure Jim messed up the Low Down lyrics pretty badly
Not quite sure I get the Rollin' Back intro. To play just the first 45 seconds - that's such a tease. To open a show maybe, that's a cool way to start... but since it didn't open, to just throw in that snippet? A bit of a head scratcher. Rollin Back is definitely my answer to the question "what song do you most want to hear live" at this point (probably was Where to Begin before last night).

My first show was great, but a little weird. I haven't been feeling well the past few days with a stomach flu and sore back. I made it through "Mahgeetah" and then had to go sit up on the hill because I wasn't feeling great. I was going to try to make it back down for the encore, but I said fuck it. Next time I'll be up close.
Great set, though. I got most everything I wanted plus a few rarities. I probably would've had a much better time had I been feeling better, but MMJ did not let me down with their first show. Their lights show was spectacular!
What a tight band that makes everything look easy. I always knew Carl was a monster guitarist, but finally seeing him in person just cemented it. Tom and Pat are one of the tightest rhythm sections I've ever heard and Jim is, well... Jim. The guy I was most impressed with was Bo. So smooth, lays down a good groove and some good fills. What a fantastic band!
Also my third time seeing Grace Potter open for a band and I still have the same reaction as always... meh. Nothing that interesting and I don't think Grace is as sexy as everyone makes her out to be. I was definitely more into her bassist Catherine Popper than I was Grace. Coincidentally one of the friends I was with... it was his 14th time seeing her. Yet, he and his girlfriend fought throughout the entire MMJ set. Don't get me started on that, though lol.

So sorry monkeyboy. Hey man, even though you didn't make this one, your story is legend. Way to rock out til the end with a broken foot. [smiley=beer.gif]
that is a kick ass setlist! so glad those who were there got to experience that awesomness. from what y'all are saying - the band was really on too, apart from jim slipping up on the low down lyrics, which is pretty funny. a unique moment that only happened there, on that night. it's a gem!!! my kingdom for this show! please tell me someone taped it.
also, everyone seems to be saying that the band was totally digging the venue. i often wonder what it's like to be a band on tour, being in a different city every night. would it get old? would you become numb & not even notice? honestly, i think everything i've heard & read includes jim commenting on how beautiful, magical etc. the venue is. and i really believe he's not just blowing smoke up the crowd's collective ass either. i think he's just as in awe of the scene from his vantage point as we are from ours.
i love it!!!
I am still catching my breath...wow.
The evening started off a bit strange...it was lightly raining and grey. The drive up from Hartford was an anxious breeze; little traffic, but we couldn't get there quick enough. The parking lot was brand new and there was no tailgating...no tailgating, not even inside our cars. This made me worry that the cops were going to be everywhere. I luckily was wrong; once in the venue, security was minor and friendly.
On our way up the hill to the stage we were blessed with a full rainbow...into the woods we went. The stage was nice and small and easily approachable, so when the hot thing of Grace Potter started to rock I was right there. She is a wonderful opener and Grace and her band know how to warm the crowd up...she's one incredible performer (she's also easy to look at).
The crowd was in a great mood (despite the weather) and everyone was enjoying the vibrations. Once the lights went out and we remember why we came...Steam Engine knocked me over... this as an opener just set the night right. The boys were pumped...I don't know what it was, but they were having so much fun; Carl couldn't stop smiling. As JJ stated is was a "hot n' sticky" night. I was worried at first that the boys would be tame because the crowd was only 2,000 at most (with only 1,000 in front of the stage), but they rocked the hardest that I have seen them...see the set list.
The new song Circuital, was amazing live, but I must say that my favorite songs of the night (beside Steam Engine) were Honest Man & Easy Morning Rebel. The boys absolutely nailed it...holy shit it was pure power. I thought the stage was going to catch on fire...I had to take 2 steps back. With that stated...every song was perfectly energized and linked to the circuit.
Walking out was a nice stroll down hill with the energy of the night pushing us. What a night: the venue was beautiful and friendly, the crowd was perfect, and the music was religious.

HONEST MAN?! 8-)
Shit was awesome... front row and dead center for this one... please enjoy this video of Touch Me 2 > Lay Low. Disregard the last 30 seconds as I forgot I was recording because Lay Low was exploding my head. And turn it up!

Jim had a funny little monologue - as best as I can remember it he said "I dunno if y'all noticed on the way in, but over there (pointing to the right) there's a big rock. A really big rock. It's pretty neat, you should go check it out. If you guys remember one thing from tonight, I want you to remember that big rock. A rock that's always been there.... and always will be".
The guy's a nut, for sure. And I'm not capturing it well, hopefully a recording will surface.

thanks for the review!
note to author: setlist was almost 2 hrs before encore, not 90 mins
Jefferson Airplane song is called White Rabbit (not "feed your head" lol)
Great show, going deep into their catalog, everyone in the band seems to be enjoying themselves, but what is up with all of the snipits of songs?

Welcome to the forum Tim Tames...
I loved all of the little snipits...it was very refreshing and kept me on my feet.
Seriously, as soon as the show was done EVERYONE (including security) went home, so The Lurker, his mrs. and I stuck around and ended up having a nice conversation with Two Tone Tommy. They eventually left and I got this (it's missing JJ):

Thanks deathstick it's a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1. It's a couple years old but there are current versions of it that are getting even better. Great line of pocket cameras that work will with low light and not too expensive.

No worries, you do what it takes!!!
I ended up missing the first 2 songs but oh well what can you do. What an incredible time...by my watch they ended up playing for about 2.5 hours, am I correct?
Cool venue overall. It was a little surreal..as JJ put it "It's like we've all been dropped by a spaceship here in the middle of the woods" or something to that extent.
QuoteI ended up missing the first 2 songs but oh well what can you do.
Don't worry, it was just Steam Engine and Way that He Sings.
Sorry, that was mean.

Hey, did anyone see my boy Jeff (yeff)? I gave him my ticket and hope it wasn't in vain.

I was there Johnny! I didn't get to meet any forum members, kept to myself and enjoyed the experience. I took a friend who was brand new to MMJ and he left a fan...asking me for recordings. How could you not get into that setlist?!?!
We were about 4 people deep centered on JJ's mic stand. I agree he was having as good of a time as we were...looking into the crowd with smiles and thumbs up! Jim's laughing was great! Bass was extremely LOUD from there! Ears were ringing for 24 hours but well worth it. The boys were on fire- extremely tight! We moved back at one point to check out the sound from the hill. You could hear the guitars much better because the bass wasn't so overbearing.
I can't say enough about the venue! It felt like a very intimate performance due to the size of crowd and size of ampitheatre. Lots of room to move around and easy to approach the stage...very cool site! Only negative is the -no tailgating policy. But I will be on the look out for the next show there! Thanks again for hooking me up and we will meet up at the next one. Not sure which MMJ show will be the next one for me but I will keep you posted.

Alright, Jeff! You made my day! My wife and I will next be in Portland on Friday, October 15, for an intimate show re-opening the State Theater (I'm told 1500 seats and its a GA show!). Great hotel next door; check the Portland thread for discounted rate. Maybe you can make it up there. Its a Friday night, but a bit of a drive from Mass., I suppose. Expecting a chance to hear some rarities as they use this show to rehearse for the 5 @ T5 that kicks off three days later(fingers crossed).

Hey Deathstick- given Merriweather and Holyoke were two of the band's favorites this year, here's a trivia question: what do those two shows have in common? answer: you n me were rockin' the place! ;)

That's incredible
I think my neck muscles finally relaxed sometime on Friday evening--heh. personal highlights from Mountain Park in ascending order of pulchridtude:
1) "Steam Engine" opener
2) "Honest MAN"!!!! I mean whoa
3) "Easy Mornin Rebel" just an overall great song
4) Tie:
"I Think I'm Going To Hell"--soaring guitar and Jim's outrageous
amidst the beauty of Mountain Park mmmm mmmm
"Where to Begin"--this one will always be high on my list because
Elizabethtown's soundtrack came out when I was in the middle of
dealing with all the bullshit that came with my 2005 wreck and this
really carried me through that lowest of points. The next time I
get a chance to talk to Jim I want to thank him for this one.
