Title: Ba-Ba-Bananas Nanas Tee: T5 edition
Post by: the_wizzard on Oct 28, 2010, 10:32 PM
Hi everyone,
So as some of you know, I am going to revise my OG Fillmore Ba-Ba-Bananas Nanas shirt to commemorate our T5 experience.  I am going to use either Cafe Press or Zazzle to make them more professional and therefore, more durable.  I just need to know what kind of interest there is for these, to give me an idea of which site might be better to use.

Fine print
*I do not plan on using these to profit at all.  I hear you get 10% back from sales on Zazzle, so if that is the case I plan on donating that to a great local Portland organization, Ethos (http://ethos.org/)
*I am thinking black shirts with white text
*My last version had wishful thinking on the back (Fillmore 12/31/07?), but I am open to suggestions. Or we could leave it blank....
*I would love to be able to offer both girl and boy shirts, so please specify which style you would want
*Band merchandise manager - please let me know if you have a problem with this idea!
*This is the OG design which was made with iron-on transfer paper and worn to the Crystal Ballroom show in Jan. 2007 (which got me to sign up here, as Ms. Yvon commented on it in one of her stellar show reviews).  All made by hand, so using Cafe Press or Zazzle will offer a more polished look to the shirts:

Thoughts?  Comments?  Who is in?

Love it, wiz!  I'd get one!  :)

It'd be fun to customize the back of the shirt..."I survived T5" "I went bananas at T5" "I Bill Murrayed myself at T5" "T5: excellent source of potassium" "T5 rocked my @%!# panties off" etc.

All very good ideas ALady...keep 'em coming!  I am leaning towards this idea:  bananas pic on front and ba-ba-bananas-nanas on the back....
But I am attached to OG design  :)

And advice is needed on how to turn my .doc to .jpg to get zazzle to accept (they don't have the budmojiggler font available).  I have a mac (and am a serious noob at this stuff).

Working the Bananas on front, ba-ba text on back idea right now.  Found the perfect free clip art for the job.  Now if I can figure out how to share the image on here...

Design idea #1

This is a work in progress so let me know your thoughts.  I like Zazzle because it would be easy for you all just to order directly from their site.  And like I said, the 10% kick back would go to Ethos, here in Portland.

It is looking like the new design is popular!  I need to tweak a few things (that black you see on the bananas is bleed through...I might need to use a lighter background).  And we have 2 options:
*bulk order and start to bring down the price...this saves $$ but makes it more work for me (I think).  I think, and I might be wrong, that I would have to order them and then send them to you all.
*I can make it a public page on Zazzle.  Right now that means it is $31.45 for the boy shirt and $35.45 for the girls shirt.  But I could add a kids shirt option if I do it this way (I was thinking about a kids shirt Big Sky).  And I wouldn't have to worry about sorting out sizes and you could always buy 2 if the feeling overcomes you.  And again, I repeat, all profit would go to Ethos in Portland, OR.  And lord knows, because they keep pulling arts/music education from our public schools, Ethos is needed in our community now more than ever....

Thoughts?

I suggest this option...it's more $$$ but much easier for everyone...

Thanks for all you have done... :)

HOORAY!

liz, perfect clip art!  i also favor your OG text.  i think you can import your old .doc text into photoshop, but you probably don't have it.  (i don't have it either.)

anyone out there have a program that can transform liz's text into a jpeg?

I will give it a shot...Mr. Wizzard has photoshop on his laptop, I just don't have it on my Mac.  I will transfer the file to his computer tomorrow and maybe load both options on Zazzle (if we are going for a public page, why not?)....
I will keep you posted!

This may sound noobish and will reveal my age.....but did the original song have anything to do with Bananas at any point? or was Jim just making fun of the lil singing part at the end? like it sounds like "ba ba bananana" or was that something real lol

No...but Jim busted out the Ba Ba Bananas chant first at the Fillmore in 2006 (NYE).  He is just silly and that is what is so great.....

Ok, this should probably be in the "current shames" thread, but what song are we talking about?  I've heard of the ba-ba-bananas talk, but...yeah.  fill me in.  thanks.  i'll probably be getting one of these T's too.

I was in 4th grade when this song was released and I still know all the words!  Remember the whole hubbabaloo over "I Want Your Sex"?  They banned it on all the radio stations in Cincinnati....funny stuff.

I posted this in the How was your week thread, but I will share this story again because it is just too good:
Mr. Wizzard and I flew out of JKF on Sunday and our airline was Jet Blue, which flies out of Terminal 5 at JFK.  We say our goodbyes to our friend and roll into the terminal, only to hear George's version of Careless Whisper playing overhead!  Kismet!  A few of our fellow travelers looked at us oddly since we were dancing and singing along at the check-in monitor.... ;D

And now back to my next road block with the shirt:

So the clip art used on the shirt is just free clip art found on the web.  I am getting a little concerned about royalties, copyrights, etc....especially if we make it a "public" design on Zazzle.

I was thinking I could do a little banana photo shoot this weekend (my sister has a really nice digital SLR).  I will upload that to the front design and see how it looks.
My second option is getting someone to whip up a little graphic design for us of a bunch of bananas.  My Mom is an artist and has done some graphic work in the past.  And my friend here in town is a textile designer and I could probably work out a trade with her. But if someone here is willing and able, I think it would be uber cool if a forum member did the graphics!  A bunch of Bananas couldn't be that hard to whip up, am I wrong?
Anyone interested before I talk with my contacts?

Yeah, but it was pretty rad.

I am just about finished with the new Bananas design, but I just want to ask you all one thing:

Do you want any mention of T5 on there, somewhere?  I left it off because then it would appeal to all of us who love MMJ and Careless Whisper.  And to make it appealing to those who were at the Fillmore, but not T5.  Am I off base?

Currently made and (almost) ready for sale:
Ladies "Banana on front tee" in black
Mens "Banana on front tee" in black
Kids "Banana on front tee" in black

I say yes on the T5 reference, but will gratefully buy one either way.

(it could be secret code style....MMJ102210T5 or NYC102210T5)

Thanks for being awesome and creative, and taking the initiative.

Love the back...hilarious!

Very good idea Walterfredo...I didn't want to be too obvious for fear of pissing off the Fillmore and/or Terminal 5.  And I think that I can offer a customization link so if someone wanted to add that, I might be able to help them out.

I still have the Bananas on the front for the adult shirts.  I thought that the bananas on front design wasn't as cute for kids as the new design made just for the kiddos.  Here is the new and improved adult shirts with my photo of bananas on the front:

Look for a launch tomorrow!  I am ready on the new design, but I want to see if I can add my old design as well (for sentimental reasons).

Hey everyone!

I finally got everything designed and loaded to a public page on Zazzle.  I hope there is something for everyone there.  Also, I made the OG design customizable (the back is blank).

First great job on the shirts!   I know you have put in a good deal of work making these shirts but i have a request if it is possible Wizzard.  I was wondering if the newer version of your shirt with the bananas picture on the front (mens & woman's t's) could possibly have the lettering style of the OG version as the lettering on the back of the shirt?  Sorry for being the pest of the bunch but was just curious if this was possible?  Thank you for the time and energy you have put into these shirts!  :)

But of course!  Actually, once I got all the shirts public, I thought the same thing.  I will work on it tonight after work!

Thanks Ms. Yvon!  I have to thank you for getting the problem solved on my .doc to image via photoshop question.  Now the old design is back in action!  Speaking of, based on Sweet Nothing's request of merging the 2 designs (banana on front, z font on back) I have just uploaded this design in the ladies and men's cut tees (note: these may take up to an hour to actually load up to Zazzle).

And the hubs wanted a coffee mug, so there is one of those as well.  Once I got the hang of Zazzle, all of this was a breeze.

Thanks to all for the help, support and input!  I really appreciate it!  And thanks ultimately goes out to the band.  You guys are the best!

Thanks Wizzard for incorporating the OG design with the bananas on the front for the Mens & Ladies.  Thought it might have been too much trouble but glad to see you could do it!  Will have to pick up at least one of these and maybe more.  Thanks again so much for the effort you have put in.   :)

Very nice!  I got some shirts in the mail today!  I am going to be honest with ya', there were some slight issues with the ladies og shirt.  I threw it in the wash to see if it is just a simple problem.  I will keep you all posted...
But AJ's new bananas shirt looks pretty fresh!

Thanks T5 Wizard. I just placed my order for a mug and baseball T for wifes stocking stuffers. I hope she doesn't go on the forum and find out about her most awesome x-mas present. We had so much fun in New York and met so many great people. All of our posters are back from the framing store and look awesome. I can't wait for the next tour as I'm sure everyone else is. Let me know if anyone will be coming out to Colorado, hopefully Red Rocks this summer.

Happy and safe holdiays to everyone!

I ordered on the 11th three of the mugs. They just have now been shipped. I ordered the ones with the black handle and black around the rim, it looked nice. They are for me, my wife and our friend who were both there for the T5 run. They have no idea I did this so don't tell, ssshhhh ;)

Hey y'all,
Just wanted to update you on the royalties. Looks like I am getting a check sent right now for $62 and some change and another check for $104 will go out in February. So all-in-all, we have raised ~$168.00 to donate to Ethos Music Center. Yay everyone!

Hey! Pre-Christmas scrimping kept me from purchasing these fine items, and now I'm gonna get some! I assume the proceeds will still go to Ethos? Great stuff, wizzy!

But of course! I have my account set to only send me checks once it hits $50, so it took a little while for it to build.  But now, since the holidays, there has been an uptick in the royalties.  I can't wait to send them the money, arts education in Portland has been slashed over and over again.  Ethos is the only source of music education for many kids here.
