well i have been lurking but finally decided to join and here i am. i got into the boys this summer and was fortunate enough to see them at austin city limits festival front and center. i staked out a spot an hour before hand so i was right against the barricade and i was in a trance the whole time. everyone seems really nice so i just wanted to say hello!!!!!!!!
Well hello to you and welcome to the gang :)
Hi there! Yeah, we're nice! ;D
Welcome to the club of addicted mmjfans.
Feel the love & spread the word. :)

I'm sure he doesn't mean to make it sound like the Hotel California ;)
"relax", said the nightman..."you are programmed to receive"...
haha thanks everyone. i'm ready for the challenge!
Hey whothrewthecake, love the name, welcome to the forum, and feel free to step up to the rostrum anytime!
"We're all just prisoners here of our own device."
Hope the same happens to you ;)
i love how a string of hotel california lyrics has begun....
by the way, how many female mmj fans lurk here? i noticed doctorinthehouse. just wondering, since i first learned about the band through a male friend, and i try to get my girlfriends to listen to it and they don't have quite the same reactions. one of my friends thinks their music is too depressing! thoughts on that?

WHAAAAAAAAA???
dude my thoughts exactly. i only hear the beauty and magic.
hey welcome aboard Mr cake thrower!
Another hello from England.
"Turn up the Eagles, the neighbours are listening"
Quoteby the way, how many female mmj fans lurk here?
Hey I hadn't realised how few of us there were until you said that. Few but fabulous, that's us. There's EC, Elizanne, Lyricjunkie who hasn't been around for a while but will be back, Prazangel and a few more.
And now there's you :D
From one Newbie to another, welcome aboard!
I cant believe one of your firends thinks MMJ are depressing. It's all so wonderfully uplifting.
I think only those in London might get what I am saying here but I think it speaks volumns about MMJ's music: I was travelling home on a number 6 bus the other week going along Oxford Street during rush hour. It was hell. The bus didn't move for ages, there were people arguing with each other about seats and the whole thing was generally terrible. Then Mahgeetah began to play on my walkman. That was follwed by Dancefloors, Golden and Masterplan. Suddenly everything was fine, and I was happy for people to push, shove and shout at each other as we crawled along Oxford Street. I didn't care. Then this grin spread across my face which even surprised me. I got some very odd looks on that bus...
I know that feeling EXACTLY. This music's just the job after a crappy day. The Way That He Sings does it best for me, but the ones you heard that night would be magic too.
yea for the girls! and yea for feeling the music. i don't know about you guys, but since i discovered this wonderful band, i have to have a daily fix. the other day, i had the band playing in my car instead of mmj, and my passengers were surprised at the change! it's just all so amazing. it makes me feel like no other music can.
Welcome Home.
"...you can check out any time you want, but you can never leave..."
(I'm seeing how long I can keep this going)
ha mirrors on the ceiling, pink champagne on ice.
hi there sweetpea
aw thank you sir.
"it's a goddamn near impossible way of life"
What is this quote from? It's lovely! Remindes me of the song "AT DAWN"
it kinda sounds like that, huh! oh man it's from the last waltz, the movie about the band's final concert. it's one of my all time favorite movies and robbie robertson says it towards the end. at that point, i'm already sobbing but it has always stuck with me. :)
Quotethe other day, i had the band playing in my car
Wow, you have a big car ;D Or do you have a cabrio?
On a dark desert highway
Cool wind in my hair
yo billy pilgrim, i love that username! makes me wanna re-read for the 10000th time slaughterhouse five...or change my username to kilgore trout! 8)
just kidding.
up ahead in the distance
I saw a shimmering light
my head grew dizzy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night...
now, insert lebowski quote:
"man, I fucking hate the Eagles..." :)
oh, and you guys forgot danilove! you can't EVER forget danilove!! :o
"Jackie Treehorn treats objects like women, man."
"hey! there's a beverage here!"
haha lfish, i had THE BAND playing, as in levon helm/robbie robertson, those guys. i re-read that post though and it looked totally confusing.
i love the big lebowski! i can't wait for lebowski fest this summer. i couldn't make it last summer but i have big plans already and i'm so pumped.
"8 year olds, dude."
Hiya new girl! I'm a girl, too! Yay girls! :)
Hi, welcome to the board. You seem pretty cool! Listening to The Band and MMJ... And about that depressing thing: Play your frieds Magheeta in the car. Maybe they'll start headbanging like that scene in Wayne's World :)
At the moment Steam Engine still does that magical thing for me, what a song, and strangely uplifting.
Mmm: 'Desperado, oh you ain't gettin' no younger
Yor pain and your hunger they're drivin' you home,
And freedom, well that's just some people talking
Your prison is walkin' through this world all alone'
Yeah , my first official Eagles quote!
'Mark it Zero!'
"you're entering a world of pain, Smokey!"

Hilarious picture! Do you got more?
Oh I forgot you can't work, it's shabbash today, the sabbath dude, only in a matter of life or death!
Oh, It's not the sabbath, you can send those pictures anyway, damn funny stuff.
"I don't roll on the Shabbash!" ;D

OMFG! I get the same way (course for me the whole film is one huge emotional roller coaster) all that unbelievable talent collected for a night of incredible musical beauty--man o man!
chills, i absolutely love steam engine. i listen to it coming home from somewhere late at night in my car on repeat. haha long sentence.
mmj_fanatic, i pee my pants a little when someone loves the last waltz! i get really emotional about watching it, i pretty much cry everytime. that music is my life (besides mmj) and seeing it all together is just too much.
HEY JC: which one of those guys is you eh?

Sorry about they above.... :P
I love Steam Engine as well.... I know I saw this thread a few monthes back, but does anybody know what the back vocals are saying at the end of the song?
Wow, Steam Engine, yes (as you can tell from my moniker and my tag). And wow, The Last Waltz, yes. Both of them absolutely floor me, and I am without exception always glued to the stereo/TV when they are on.
whothrewthecake, wow you have had quite an impressive opening! Are you single? :o Just kidding ;D Or am I?..... :-*
i must say that it is very exciting to have so many replies. it just proves that everyone is indeed very nice. and to mr. boar, well yes i am.

I remember when I first posted here and nobody replied for days! oh well, welcome whothrewthecake! we ALL pee our pants when we listen to the last waltz. anybody who says otherwise is lying! ;)
hahahahaha i am really glad that other people also experience bladder control loss.
I experienced bladder control loss, as well, but in my eyes. I still can't believe it took me until 29 to see that film.
It made me fall in love with Richard Manuel. :)
oh man! isn't he the greatest!? :D i just love levon, though. he's always been my favorite member.
Oh, Levon is great, don't get me wrong. I love all of them, even RR with all of his "I'm a good-looking guy" eyebrow moves.
Just something about that Richard that makes me love him the most. Maybe it's the hair. heh. :)
robbie does pull some of his best faces out. i love richard when he is lounged out on the couch talking about the band's name. classic.
Man, this place gets better and better. The Last Waltz is just beautiful, from start to finish. I was already well into The Band and Dylan when I saw it for the first time, but that film got me into Neil Young, Emmylou Harris and Muddy Waters among others. A whole new world of music was opened up to me.
Emmylou is one of my favourite bits aside from the big rock in Neil's nose. She seems a little bit afraid, and they make her stand all by herself. Her dress is great. I think we girls should start to wear dresses like that again.
So, a posting with a pic of that dress is out of the question? I'd like to see this dress...
EC, i am all about bringing the dress back. the question is though, can the boys wear pants like robbie and rick have on? ;)
i am looking for a picture everywhere and i can't find one! you can go to imdb.com and search the last waltz and watch the movie trailer because i believe they show a shot of her singing in that. haha it may stay enveloped in mystery!!
ok, i couldn't find a picture! but i found a video clip of her part in the movie so now you can see her dress in all its wonderful glory.
http://theband.hiof.no/video_clips/index.html
scroll down to The Band 1968-1976 and her clip is there under "Emmylou Harris and The Band doing 'Evangeline'"
let me know what you think!
Crap, though. It doesn't show the whole thing. It cuts off in that big pan before you get to her.
I have a girl crush on Emmylou Harris.
OH NO! i just watched it. man that sucks. couldn't they have let it run like 3 more seconds? :'(
in other news, come closer is an amazing song.
I hear ya! I can't ever stop listening to Emmylou once I start!
Oh and Welcome whothrewthecake! :) :)
p.s. Has anyone heard the Drive-by Truckers Danko/Mauel song? It is REALLY sweet!
