1. Almost Famous (so much heart in this film, I'm really excited about Elizabethtown)
2. The Doors (Val Kilmer was put on earth to star in this movie and he nailed it, Oliver Stone did a great job of telling the story in just a couple hours, the live scenes are so well done)
Documentaries
1. Heartworn Highways (If you haven't seen this, you need to. hellacious can verify. It is amazing.)
(very close) 2. Don't Look Back (Just got it for Christmas from my Uncle Irwin. Very excited to finally own it.)
3. The Last Waltz (Pretty self-explanatory)
4. Year of the Horse (Nobody I know likes this movie, and I don't know why I do, but I really do.)
"Fictional" Movies
1. Nashville (Do I need to say why?)
2. Coal Miner's Daughter (The best I've ever seen Tommy Lee Jones. Ever.)
3. La Bamba (Yep. Loved it.)
4. greendale (I think I wrote why at greater length elsewhere on this board.)
I also liked The Doors and Almost Famous. My favourite part in Almost Famous is the hotel scene where you catch a quick glimpse of that famous picture of Gram and Emmylou. Nice little detail.
on edit: crap, I just noticed there's another thread for the docs. Oh well, I'm leavin' it here. :D

Just a few I can think of.
Spinal Tap
Almost Famous
The Doors
A Mighty Wind
Coal Miners Daughter
Hard Days Night
Help
Spinal Tap, Spinal Tap, Spinal Tap....! ;D
Also damn good: Gimme Shelter and a fictional movie about a female songwriter of wich I always forget the bloody name. Not 'One from the heart', but something like that.
"This one goes to eleven" ;D
Little known fact but, Mike McCready (Pearl Jam guitarist) plays the guitar for the band Stillwater on the score and the soundtrack of Almost Famous. I thought that was cool. I'm still trying to talk one of our local bands into covering "Fever Dog"
(sweatboard, I love that you changed your sig line to that. I've been laughing and laughing...)
Word? ;)
Lot's of good responses, but I also thought Rock Star with Mark Walberg was good and had a pretty good soundtrack.
Am I allowed to say Elizabethtown yet?
QuoteAm I allowed to say Elizabethtown yet?
Shit yeah! 8)
Have to throw out Eddie and the Cruisers....what was the song called.....on the Dark Side...something like that.
D.
The Buddy Holly Story was a great movie.Gary Busey really had Buddy dead on.
The Rose....Bette Midler's finest performance,
and La Bamba,Lou Diamonds finest as well.
Quote4. Year of the Horse (Nobody I know likes this movie, and I don't know why I do, but I really do.)
Me too, bro. You are a true Neil fan. ;)
I thoght Rock Star was good also. I think alot of people discredit it to easily.
Spinal Tap
The Wall (kinda an abstract music movie I know)
Monterey Pop
American Pop (I know its animated but still cool)
Almost Famous! to think that Cameron Crowe was about that kid's age when he was jetting around with Zeppelin!!! I mean HOLY SHIT what an experience that must have been!
"Amadeus"--yeah, that's right, i'm a nerd..so what.
"The Wall"--I know some people, especially critics, hate this film...think it's pompus and arrogant and that Pink is completely unredeemable (isn't that the point of the film?? that he's trapped in this cycle and needs help to get out?? to be redeemable again??), but I don't care....i love it...it holds a special place in my life....
You are so not a nerd for liking Amadeus.
Also, I can't believe I forgot about The Wall. Has anyone ever listened to it while watching The Wizard of Oz? Or is that Dark Side of the Moon?
Oh what the hell, you're usually high anyhow, so it wouldn't really matter...
Oh mylanta, how could I forget Quadrophenia? (Does it count in this thread?)
Amedaus does in fact RAWK. Roch Me AMEMDEAUS ROK Me. Seriously though I loved the movie I had forgotten about it but it was facinating. As far as the Wizard of Oz and Darkside, does anyone know details about this as far as....
A. What has the band said about it?
B. When were each released?
C. How many times do you have to play the cd to cover the entire dvd?
D. Any other movies out there that sink up to CD's?
I'm curious because I've never heard or read one single comment about this from any of the band members.
I have no idea if they've said anything about it... I also have no idea what you're supposed to do, because, well, I've never set it up, and it's always been playing in the background. (Mostly highschool, it happened a bit in University, and again, don't remember tooooo much about it.)
Dude, your various takes on the spelling of rock were rauk.
QuoteAlso, I can't believe I forgot about The Wall. Has anyone ever listened to it while watching The Wizard of Oz? Or is that Dark Side of the Moon?
It is Dark side/Wizard of Oz.If you look on Ebay, you will find a custom made DVD that someone has attached the audio of DSOTM to the TWOO movie.I have watched it here at home just using my cd player and starting the movie at the same time. There are a few interesting coincidences, like the scarecrow dancing to "The lunatic is in the grass".
I actually prefer the Meddle/2001:A Space Odyssey deal.I like this much better and back when this movie was being made,it is rumored that Kubrick wanted the song "Echoes" as the soundtrack to the film.Course it never happened. If you have the Live at Pompeii DVD,at the beginning of the movie, you can hear someone breathing, just like the movie, near the end, when you hear Dave breathing. It does take some imagination for all this, and some people are gonna come away not satisfied. But if you turn out all the lights, light a candle and light something else,it is a pretty cool experience.
As for the band members,I am sure they would not/do not approve.
24 Hour Party People, as Borat would say..."Iz Ni-ice, I Li-ike!" Big time props for Amadeus!
QuoteBut if you turn out all the lights, light a candle and light something else,it is a pretty cool experience
I find that works for just about every situation!
QUADROPHENIA...OH YES
IMMORTAL BELOVED-BEETHOVEN LOVE STORY
AMADEUS
AND THE BEST FICTIONAL MUSIC LOVING FILM HAS GOTTA BE MR HOLLANDS OPUS....TOP BANANA FILM.
OH YEAH AND RALPH MACHIO'S CROSSROADS.
Had to bring this topic back, 'cause we all forgot about 'The Harder They Come'. How'd that happen?
"rivers of babylon" and "many rivers to cross" - so friggin' good!
