You Tell Me!?
First thing you need to know is how to spell his name. ;D
I heard he was playing 5 shows at the Ryman in Nashville this August, i guess it was a rumor, because i have heard no official announcement. :-/

Yep...same here...the Ryman shows may be an invite only audience since he is supposed to be filming the shows for a DVD.
Neil has announced a new CD/DVD coming out in september called Prairie Wind. The DVD is supposed to be the making of the CD.

And he has also announced that the 1st volume of the long awaited Archives is coming out after the PW CD.

can't wait for the cds and dvd, ah Prarie Wind in September, Z in October, fall should be great.
but that is dissapointing about the Ryman shows, especially since i was planning on seeing his first show and last show on the 19th, then the next night i'd be seeing the Kings of Leon.
I'll find some way to get in.
QuoteI'll find some way to get in.
For some reason you keep reminding me of Cameron Crowe...
I have no doubt that you will get in. If there was ever a seventeen year-old (or however old you are) that deserved a special pass to be able to see shows, it would be you. :)

:)
no guff. were you the curly haired dude who was up front during the mmj/wilco show and keep diving into seats when the ushers came near? That was some crafty shit!
sorry,After massive research........Neil Young ;D
neil young rules and always will.
I've been listening, again, to Harvest a lot lately. And I've been paying attention to the drumming and really digging it. I don't know any of the back story to that record (but jellyfish, I bet you do!)
I think I know that two of the songs were written on the same night.. And were they Heart of Gold and Old Man?
Anyhow, stories would be very much loved by me.. :)

I think he wrote "cowgirl in the sand" and "down by the river" on the same day (when he was in bed with high fever). Not sure about "heart of gold" and "old man".
The album was mostly recorded on Neil's ranch. They installed two giant speakers outside the building.
Then Neil rowed out to the middle of his lake to listen to what they had recorded and to shout instructions like: "more barn". :)
A Man Needs A Maid is Dylan's fav. Neil Young song.
Em, that's all for trivia!
QuoteI think he wrote "cowgirl in the sand" and "down by the river" on the same day
Thaaaat's right. Yes.
"More barn" is awesome.
I love your trivia, Chills. :) Thanks!!
There's been some discussion on the DBT group this morning about the famous cocaine-booger from The Last Waltz. What do you know about that. They've been trying to figure out where that originated, saying that Scorcese went in and had to take it out frame by frame a while back. Are there prints of it where you can see it?
I've seen that! I didn't know it was cocaine, though, at the time. I remember turning to my bro and saying "Wow, dude totally has a huge booger - can you see that?" And he just looked at me like I was retarded. (I take longer than the average person to find out about stuff, it seems.)
Are we sure it was that? Because, I'm no cocaine expert, but that seems like a pretty big fucking thing to try and snort into your nose.
But it's totally there in TLW dvd... Wonder if they put it back?
whothrewthecake is TLW expert, I believe... Lady?
How did Neil and Pegi meet?
Quote
whothrewthecake is TLW expert, I believe... Lady?
haha, i love being called an expert! :)
i know that in levon's book, he mentions that one of the dressing rooms was painted completely white and the only thing in the room was a glass table with razor blades. i think neil had some fun before the performance....
at any rate, i do know they had special effects people cover the rock in his nose because neil's manager wouldn't let him be in the movie unless it was covered.
last waltz rules!
I don't know about written in the same day but Old Man has James Taylor and Linda Rondstadt as back up singers.
The liner notes from the Decade album reveal a lot of trivia about Neil's songs..that is a must have for Neil fans.
And I have the original VHS that shows Neil with this big ass coke booger hanging out of his nose backstage....I think the whole scene was taken out of the movie. You could tell Neil was wasted that night,as was the whole cast of artists...there was reported to be "mounds" of coke backstage.
My fav line from Neil ever is in the Last Waltz: "They got it now,Robbie".
I think I read where Neil met Pegi while she was waiting tables in a resturant.Harvest Moon has 2 songs that are wrote about her,"Unknown Legend" and "Such A Woman".
Neil trivia question: What Neil song did he admit to stealing the guitar riff from a Rolling Stones song?
Wicked!
Yeah, I think I remember hearing/reading that Pegi was the gal from the Harvest Moon songs, but I didn't actually believe that she was a waitress when they met.
Every roommate I ever had (aside from the present one) always had Decade, so I never bought it. And thus never read the notes. However, unless our new gal has it, perhaps I need to have my own.
Thanks, jellyfish!!
I don't know the answer to your trivia question. hmmm..
mr. soul.
A: The aptly named "Borrowed Tune".
Quotemr. soul.
So good. From Satisfaction?
It's Mr.Soul...although Borrowed Tune was close..the line in the song goes " I'm singing this borrowed tune,I took from the Rolling Stones".
If you listen to Mr Soul you can tell it's the guitar riff from "Satisfaction".
Someone stumped me on this one last week: What Neil Young album art has a pot plant on it?

Is it "American Stars And Bars"?
"Borrowed Tune" lends the melody of "Lady Jane" by The Stones.
Neil Young says of The Last Waltz: "It was not my finest moment" haha
And yeah, it cost a lot of money to remove the cocaine digitally!
For a more thorough background (maybe it's more than you want to now, takes away a lot of mystery!) read "Shakey" by Jimmy McDonough.
Shakey is a good read, although I found myself not personally liking Crosby or Stills after I read it.There are a lot of Neil interviews in that book and he gave Mcdonough a hard time after he published it,when at first he supported it.
It's not American Stars + Bars. :)
It's Live Rust.
On the cover his guitar strap has alternating holograms of weed leaves and Jimi Hendrix's face. What do I win?
I know that Neil owns the Lionel Toy Train Company
And that Neil was in a band with Rick James called the Mynah Birds, they were the first rock band to be signed to Motwown, and Rick James was arrested for being awol from the Navy right before their first album was coming out.
Neil trivia is fun. :)

It's not Live Rust...that is a dove symbol on the guitar strap and a Jimi Hendrix button stuck to it.
I like Neil trivia too. ;)
What's the answer, Jellyfish? It's killing me.
???
Ok....I got stumped on this one too...it's TRANS....look inside on the album sleeve and there is a pic of Neil with a guitar and a reflection of him in the guitar on the street....in the pegbaord you can see a tiny little pot plant. :)

Awesome! I love crap like that.
Emmylou Harris to play with Neil Young in Nashville

By Jonathan Cohen
NEW YORK (Billboard) - Neil Young will be joined at his upcoming stand at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium by Emmylou Harris, Wayne Jackson of the Memphis Horns, the Fisk University Jubilee Singers and Carl Gorodetsky and the Nashville String Machine. The Aug. 18-19 shows will be taped for concert film by director Jonathan Demme.
Sources say the shows are expected to encompass a complete performance of Young's new album, "Prairie Wind," due Sept. 27 via Reprise. As on the record, the artist will be backed at the Ryman by keyboardist Spooner Oldham, pedal steel guitarist Ben Keith, drummer Chad Cromwell, percussionist Karl Himmel and bassist Rick Rosas.
A small amount of tickets will likely be available to the general public closer to the date of the event. Paramount Pictures will release the film in theaters and on DVD, but no schedule has yet been announced.
The only other shows currently on Young's schedule are a Sept. 18 appearance at Farm Aid outside Chicago and Oct. 29-30 at his annual Bridge School Benefit outside San Francisco. However, sources say he is mulling a handful of other dates in the fall.

I need to be able to control time travel. Then everything would work so much better.
Man.
