Post by: MickeyReds on May 04, 2009, 06:06 PM
Please. Anyway, a continuance of the whatever you want to talk about thread. This is not intended for people who cannot handle friendly disagreements.

Walt, good to see you around these parts again.  I think about your friend throwing that newspaper "detective style" in the hotel room and laugh to myself at least once every second week.

We need to round up db and tie on a cross-continent drunk, it's been far too long.

Yeah, he did do that, and he was right too!  ;D

I need a pregame warm up that's for sure. I have a bachelor party to attend. So now it's on DB son! I saw that players last post in the Drinking thread. Db does work!

It's all the goddamned money, Ed Tom.
The money and the drugs. It's just
           goddamned beyond everything. What is
it mean? What is it leading to?

           Yes.

If you'd a told me twenty years ago
I'd see children walkin the streets of
our Texas towns with green hair and
bones in their noses I just flat out
           wouldn't of believed you.

It is not the one thing.

Not the one thing. I used to think I
could at least some way put things right.
I don't feel that way no more.

Standing backstage at the Beacon Theatre in New York, leaning against a crumbling brick wall in the dark, I could barely see Kris Kristofferson standing to my left. Willie Nelson was in the shadows to my right. Ray Charles was standing beside Willie, idly shifting his weight back and forth. A bit farther along the wall were Elvis Costello, Wyclef Jean, Norah Jones, Shelby Lynne, Paul Simon and respective managers, friends and family. Everybody was nervous and tight. We were there for Willie Nelson's 70th birthday concert in 2003.

Up from the basement came one of country music's brightest stars (who shall remain nameless). At that moment in time, the Star had a monster radio hit about bombing America's enemies back into the Stone Age.

"Happy birthday," the Star said to Willie, breezing by us. As he passed Kristofferson in one long, confident stride, out of the corner of his mouth came "None of that lefty shit out there tonight, Kris."

"What the fuck did you just say to me?" Kris growled, stepping forward.

"Oh, no," groaned Willie under his breath. "Don't get Kris all riled up."

"You heard me," the Star said, walking away in the darkness.

"Don't turn your back to me, boy," Kristofferson shouted, not giving a shit that basically the entire music industry seemed to be flanking him.

The Star turned around: "I don't want any problems, Kris — I just want you to tone it down."

"You ever worn your country's uniform?" Kris asked rhetorically.

"What?"

"Don't 'What?' me, boy! You heard the question. You just don't like the answer." He paused just long enough to get a full chest of air. "I asked, 'Have you ever served your country?' The answer is, no, you have not. Have you ever killed another man? Huh? Have you ever taken another man's life and then cashed the check your country gave you for doing it? No, you have not. So shut the fuck up!" I could feel his body pulsing with anger next to me. "You don't know what the hell you are talking about!"

"Whatever," the young Star muttered.

Ray Charles stood motionless. Willie Nelson looked at me and shrugged mischievously like a kid in the back of the classroom.

Kristofferson took a deep inhale and leaned against the wall, still vibrating with adrenaline. He looked over at Willie as if to say, "Don't say a word." Then his eyes found me.

"You know what Waylon Jennings said about guys like him?" he whispered.

I shook my head.

"They're doin' to country music what pantyhose did to finger-fuckin'."

QuoteI read about that incident just recently. Where is this from K?
It's from a Rolling Stone article written by none other than Ethan Hawke (can the guy be any cooler?).  You can't read the entire thing online, but here it is: http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/27113898/the_last_outlaw_poet/print

I guess Kris and Toby Keith have since denied the incident, but Rolling Stone stands by their fact-checking (Almost Famous style), and Kris' wife said she recalls the incident.  That last line will be with me forever, I'm sure of it.

I can't find my copy of The Silver Tongued Devil and I.   :'(

Those fish are just for looking at. They're in the Truckee River right by the outlet gates. You can't fish there you have to go downstream 500 feet or something.

Just saw this on comcast:

Rock the vote: Nirvana bassist seeks county office
CATHLAMET, Wash. — Nirvana's former bassist is running for clerk of a rural county to protest Washington state's method of letting candidates name their own party affiliation.

Krist Novoselic (noh-voh-SEL'-ik) is running for clerk of Wahkiakum (wah-KAI'-ah-kum) County in western Washington.
Novoselic is head of his local chapter of the Grange, a civic organization. His election paperwork declares that he's running under the "Grange Party" banner, even though the Grange isn't a political party.

Novoselic tells The Daily World newspaper that he's protesting the state's system that lets candidates say what party they prefer when running for office. He says that's confusing for voters and lets candidates appropriate the names of private associations.

Neil has said this to me on many occasions

People say don't rock the boat,

Let things go their own way

Ideas that once seemed so right

Now have gotten hard to say

I wish that I could talk to you,

And that you could talk to me

'Cuz there's very few of us

left my friend

From the days that used to be

It seemed like such an easy thing, to follow ones own dream
But possessions and concessions are not often what they seem
They drag you down, they load you down, in disguise of security
But we never used to make those deals
In the days that used to be

Talk to me, my long lost friend, tell me how you are
Are you happy with your circumstance, are you driving a new car?
Does it get you where you want to go, with a seven year warranty
Or another hundred thousand miles away
From the days that used to be
8-)

For ETB:

I know you posted these before, but as of late some of these gubbers make me keep thinking of this...

To be offended is usually a rather unpleasant experience, one that can expose a person to intolerance, cultural misunderstandings, and even evoke the scars of the past.  This is such an unpleasant experience that many people develop a thick skin and try to only be offended in the most egregious and awful situations.  In many circumstances, they can allow smaller offenses to slip by as fighting them is a waste of time and energy.  But white people, blessed with both time and energy, are not these kind of people.  In fact there are few things white people love more than being offended.

Naturally, white people do not get offended by statements directed at white people.  In fact, they don't even have a problem making offensive statements about other white people (ask a white person about "flyover states").  As a rule, white people strongly prefer to get offended on behalf of other people.

It is also valuable to know that white people spend a significant portion of their time preparing for the moment when they will be offended.  They read magazines, books, and watch documentaries all in hopes that one day they will encounter a person who will say something offensive.  When this happens, they can leap into action with quotes, statistics, and historical examples.  Once they have finished lecturing another white person about how it's wrong to use the term "black" instead of "African-American," they can sit back and relax in the knowledge that they have made a difference.

White people also get excited at the opportunity to be offended at things that are sexist and/or homophobic.  Both cases offering ample opportunities for lectures, complaints, graduate classes, lengthy discussions and workshops.  All of which do an excellent job of raising awareness among white people who hope to change their status from "not racist" to "super not racist."

Another thing worth noting is that the threshold for being offended is a very important tool for judging and ranking white people. Missing an opportunity to be outraged is like missing a reference to Derrida-it's social death.

If you ever need to make a white person feel indebted to you, wait for them to mention a book, film, or television show that features a character who is the same race as you,  then say "the representation of <insert race> was offensive and if you can't see that, well, you need to do some soul searching."  After they return from their hastily booked trip to land of your ancestors, they will be desperate to make it up to you.  At this point, it is acceptable to ask them to help you paint your house.

David Kaiser is a respected historian whose published works have covered a broad range of topics, from European Warfare to American League Baseball. Born in 1947, the son of a diplomat, Kaiser spent his childhood in three capital cities: Washington D.C. , Albany , New York , and Dakar , Senegal . He attended Harvard University , graduating there in 1969 with a B.A. in history. He then spent several years more at Harvard, gaining a PhD in history, which he obtained in 1976. He served in the Army Reserve from 1970 to 1976. He is a professor in the Strategy and Policy Department of the United States Naval War College and has previously taught at Carnegie Mellon, Williams College and Harvard University . Kaiser's latest book, The Road to Dallas, about the Kennedy assassination, was just published by Harvard University Press.

Dr. David Kaiser

History Unfolding

I am a student of history. Professionally, I have written 15 books on history that have been published in six languages, and I have studied history all my life. I have come to think there is something monumentally large afoot, and I do not believe it is simply a banking crisis, or a mortgage crisis, or a credit crisis. Yes these exist, but they are merely single facets on a very large gemstone that is only   now coming into a sharper focus.

Something of historic proportions is happening. I can sense it because I know how it feels, smells, what it looks like, and how people react to it. Yes, a perfect storm may be brewing, but there is something happening within our country that has been evolving for about ten to fifteen years. The pace has dramatically quickened in the past two.

We demand and then codify into law the requirement that our banks make massive loans to people we know they can never pay back? Why?

We learned that the Federal Reserve, which has little or no real oversight by anyone, has "loaned" two trillion dollars (that is $2,000,000,000,000) over the past few months, but will not tell us to whom or why or disclose the terms. That is our money. Yours and mine. And that is three times the $700 billion we all argued about so strenuously just this past September. Who has this money? Why do they have it? Why are the terms unavailable to us? Who asked for it? Who authorized it? I thought this was a government of "we the people," who loaned our powers to our elected leaders. Apparently not.

We have spent two or more decades intentionally de-industrializing our economy. Why?

We have intentionally dumbed down our schools, ignored our history, and no longer teach our founding documents, why we are exceptional, and why are we worth preserving. Students by and large cannot write, think critically, read, or articulate. Parents are not revolting, teachers are not picketing, school boards continue to back mediocrity. Why?

We have now established the precedent of protesting every close election (violently in California over a proposition that is so controversial that it simply wants marriage to remain defined as between one man and one woman. Did you ever think such a thing possible just a decade ago?) We have corrupted our sacred political process by allowing unelected judges to write laws that radically change our way of life, and then mainstream Marxist groups like ACORN and others to turn our voting system into a banana republic. To what purpose?
Now our mortgage industry is collapsing, housing prices are in free fall, major industries are failing, our banking system is on the verge of collapse, social security is nearly bankrupt, as is Medicare and our entire government. Our education system is worse than a joke (I teach college and I know precisely what I am talking about) - the list is staggering in its length, breadth, and depth. It is potentially 1929 x 10. And we are at war with an enemy we cannot even name for fear of offending people of the same religion, who, in turn, cannot wait to slit the throats of your children if they have the opportunity to do so.

And finally, we have elected a man that no one really knows anything about, who has never run so much as a Dairy Queen, let alone a town as big as Wasilla, Alaska. All of his associations and alliances are with real radicals in their chosen fields of employment and everything we learn about him, drip by drip, is unsettling if not downright scary (Surely you have heard him speak about his idea to create and fund a mandatory civilian defense force stronger than our military for use inside our borders? No? Oh, of course. The media would never play that for you over and over and then demand he answer it. Sarah Palin's pregnant daughter and $150,000 wardrobe are more important.)

Mr. Obama's winning platform can be boiled down to one word: Change. Why?
I have never been so afraid for my country and for my children as I am now.

This man campaigned on bringing people together, something he has never, ever done in his professional life. In my assessment, Obama will divide us along philosophical lines, push us apart, and then try to realign the pieces into a new and different power structure. Change is indeed coming. And when it comes, you will never see the same nation again.
And that is only the beginning.

As a serious student of history, I thought I would never come to experience what the ordinary, moral German must have felt in the mid-1930s In those times, the "savior" was a former smooth-talking rabble-rouser from the streets, about whom the average German knew next to nothing. What they should have known was that he was associated with groups that shouted, shoved, and pushed around people with whom they disagreed; he edged his way onto the political stage through great oratory. Conservative "losers" read it right now.

And there were the promises. Economic times were tough, people were losing jobs, and he was a great speaker. And he smiled and frowned and waved a lot. And people, even newspapers, were afraid to speak out for fear that his "brown shirts" would bully and beat them into submission. Which they did - regularly.. And then, he was duly elected to office, while a full-throttled economic crisis bloomed at hand - the Great Depression. Slowly, but surely he seized the controls of government power, person by person, department by department, bureaucracy by bureaucracy. The children of German citizens were at first, encouraged to join a Youth Movement in his name where they were taught exactly what to think. Later, they were required to do so. No Jews of course,

How did he get people on his side? He did it by promising jobs to the jobless, money to the money-less, and rewards for the military-industrial complex. He did it by indoctrinating the children, advocating gun control, health care for all, better wages, better jobs, and promising to re-instill pride once again in the country, across Europe , and across the world. He did it with a compliant media - did you know that? And he did this all in the name of justice and ..... change. And the people surely got what they voted for.

If you think I am exaggerating, look it up. It's all there in the history books.
So read your history books. Many people of conscience objected in 1933 and were shouted down, called names, laughed at, and ridiculed. When Winston Churchill pointed out the obvious in the late 1930s while seated in the House of Lords in England (he was not yet Prime Minister), he was booed into his seat and called a crazy troublemaker. He was right, though. And the world came to regret that he was not listened to.

Do not forget that Germany was the most educated, the most cultured country in Europe . It was full of music, art, museums, hospitals, laboratories, and universities. And yet, in less than six years (a shorter time span than just two terms of the U. S. presidency) it was rounding up its own citizens, killing others, abrogating its laws, turning children against parents, and neighbors against neighbors.. All with the best of intentions, of course. The road to Hell is paved with them.

As a practical thinker, one not overly prone to emotional decisions, I have a choice: I can either believe what the objective pieces of evidence tell me (even if they make me cringe with disgust); I can believe what history is shouting to me from across the chasm of seven decades; or I can hope I am wrong by closing my eyes, having another latte, and ignoring what is transpiring around me.

I choose to believe the evidence. No doubt some people will scoff at me, others laugh, or think I am foolish, naive, or both. To some degree, perhaps I am. But I have never been afraid to look people in the eye and tell them exactly what I believe-and why I believe it.

I pray I am wrong. I do not think I am. Perhaps the only hope is our vote in the next elections.

S. presidency) it was rounding up its own citizens, killing others, abrogating its laws, turning children against parents, and neighbors against neighbors..

David Kaiser   Jamestown, Rhode Island

So I know from previous threads that you just like to chuck things around to get people riled up.

Now it is my understanding that David Kaiser did not even write this.  Perhaps the fine Dr. would find it inappropriate that his name is being hijacked in the name of a rambling piece of used toilet paper that compares Obama to the Fuhrer.  It is even mentioned on his Wiki site that it actually appeared on Dollard's blog and has been wrongfully attributed to Kaiser.  In fact, one would have to be severely mentally deficient to believe that such an intelligent man was capable of writing something as inane as that.

At best it is juvenile, inconsistent, incoherent and irrational.  That you would post something this silly speaks you your character Fanatic (an apt name).  The purpose for the post I've yet to ascertain other than it is the "Whatever" thread.

In all your wisdom please explain this post.

If you are gonna post bullshit, attribute it to the correct author.  This came from a conservative blog, not the blog of Kaiser.

Moreover, the link you have to David Kaiser above is not even the right Kaiser.  He is a scientist, not the historian, the one you should have found.

What I laugh at is that you were duped by your own ;D ;D ;D

Deleted the incorrectly attributed text.  Guess I should  have read about Dr. Kaiser a little more closely before accepting the e-mail (which I received from my FID instructor) as his analysis.

However, I do have a really huge problem with what Obama is trying to achieve here lately though.  The spending is out of control and the TARP bailouts are the most un-American thing I think I've seen since the Commies in our government (as revealed by Senator McCarthy).  Moreover this healthcare "reform" is little more than a government take over of a world class system (which everyone else would like access to--especially illegal aliens) that will ruin said system and will ration healthcare in an almost facist manner.  I mena just take a look at how they've run our public education systems into the ground.

                          *end rant*

Have a nice day and thanks for once again proving that ad hominems are the tactic of choice for the left when confronted with the hard negative truth about their ideas.

I apologize for the personal attack MMJF.  It was uncalled for.

However, your reference to ad hominem tactics seem rather paradoxical where you chose to post an opinion piece as substantive work backed only by the name of a particular intellectual.

Your opinions on banking reform, education and health care are fine.  Whether I agree or not is not the issue here.  That you carelessly post a piece that equates the current American condition with those of 1930's Germany and parallels Obama with Hitler is what I question.

To frame our current state in such a way while ignoring the countless other examples in which nation states have faced similar predicaments is shameless propaganda.  Another country that faced similar challenges in that era was the US.

I guess the US in the 30s and Japan in the 90s just 2 of a number of modern examples where according to that piece, the conditions for a Hitler to come to power existed.

Hmmm, I wonder when Obama is going to START a war and begin EXTERMINATING a race of people.

Ad hominem?

Weird,  NJ's education system is being run into the ground by our lovely Governor Chris Christie- not Obama.  But whatever, I hate talking politics- everyone gets pissy and no one ever admits the other is right even when they are so wrong. (Republicans, Democrats, Conservatives, or Liberals everyone is pretty much the same)

BALL BAT WINNER OVER CHAIN SAW
Chain saw attack thwarted by baseball bat.
Date published: 6/15/2011

BY KEITH EPPS

A Springfield man was hit on the head with a baseball bat and arrested on charges that he attacked a Stafford County man with a chain saw, police said.

Stafford Sheriff's Maj. David Decatur said the incident began about 11:45 p.m. Monday on Barclay Lane in Stonebridge of Widewater subdivision.

A 44-year-old Stafford man reported that another man was yelling and banging on his door. The resident said the man cursed him and told him to come outside.

The man reportedly was upset with the resident about a woman. Decatur declined to elaborate.

The resident said that when he took a step out the door, the man came from behind a bush with the chain saw.

He started it and cut into a railing leading to the front porch but did not injure the resident.

Decatur said the resident was able to get back inside his home and close the door. A short time later, the man broke into the home with the chain saw still running.

The man was screaming, and the resident yelled for someone else in the house to call the police.

As the man came after the resident again with the chain saw, the resident grabbed an aluminum baseball bat and hit the man in the head.

The man fell backward out of the house and onto the porch, Decatur said. When he tried to enter the home again, the resident jabbed him in the midsection with the bat, knocking him off the porch.

Decatur said the man staggered around the yard for a few minutes before getting into his Chevrolet pickup truck. He left before deputies arrived.

Deputies searched the area and found the truck and the chain saw down the street. The man was gone, and the Sheriff's Office placed a lookout for him.

About 1:40 a.m. yesterday, Decatur said, the Sheriff's Office was notified that the man was at a hospital in Springfield.

Fairfax County police arrested him there on a domestic assault charge connected with an incident a week earlier.

He picked up other charges in Fairfax when he was accused of assaulting two police officers while trying to flee from the hospital, police said.

Douglas Edward Turner, 31, is charged in Stafford with two counts of attempted malicious wounding, breaking and entering and destruction of property.

He was in the Fairfax Adult Detention Center last night, Decatur said.

Im not a fan of starting RIP threads, so I figured Id post it here, but apparently Jackass crew guy Ryan Dunn died last night in a crash in PA. I guess theyre saying his face was so burned he was identified by an EMT who recognized his tattoos, and his porsche was basically toast. Saw him and Steve-o on minute to win it a week or 2 ago, watched liked 10 minutes of it, but surprisingly, Steve-O seemed like the more sane/stable/normal person. Not that I follow a lot of crashes, but this is the most mangled car Ive ever seen. Looks like scrap metal.

I guess I need to update my NHL then. I think 07 or 08 is the last 1 have and play (which I do like because its fun as hell to trade for guys who are now stars for dirt contracts a few years ago), but I routinely go like 79-1-2 on medium difficulty early on in franchises, and about the same on difficult once Ive raised my players potential, abilities, etc.

Still love it though

2011 is friggin amazing. broken sticks, sick dekes & the ability to strip the garbage default music out of the game & insert your own music are my favorite features. It's pretty awesome when Briere blasts one in the net & O is the One comes over the arena sound system

Didnt know what you meant by insert your own music, but that is cool as hell (although I usually just silence games and listen to tunes when im playing video games).

What I meant is that there is a sub menu in the game that displays a default playlist for all sorts of scenerios. You can strip that out & insert your own playslists. So instead of C&C Music Factory playing when the Flyboys score, I get to hear random songs in a playlist I created. Some of the other scenerios are in between periods, menu screens, pre-game warmups ect. It's pretty awesome as I do like to listen to the commentary while playing.

Call me crazy, but I'm not all that upset with the Richards & Carter trades. Carter habitually went AWOL in the playoffs. I also never liked Richards as a captain. He's just kind of, for lack of a better word, douchey. Cap room was cleared & we finally got a top tier goalie. The players we got in return for the trades have a lot of upside. Plus we got a 1st, 2nd & 3rd round pick. I honestly don't think the Flyers are done making moves either. I see them picking someone else of value up as well

I play on a PS3. But I believe the feature is available across all systems for EA games. I know you can do it in the baseball games as well. There are some fairly simple online guides that explain how to do it. It's actually pretty easy. But I'll break it down as simple as possible here for the PS3. I'm guessing it would be similar for the 360. If you get stuck, just look up an online guide

1) Either copy a CD to your PS3 or bring over selected songs from an external device (hardrive)
2) Go to the music menu on the PS3 & select the Playlist sub-menu.
3) Select Create New Playlist
4) Go to new PLaylist & press triangle for options
5) select Edit
6) Select the songs from the left half of the screen by pressing X. That will bring them over to the right side of the screen in the newly created Playlist
7) Run the EA game (I'll use NHL 11 as example)
8.) Select the MY NHL 11 option
9) Select the EA SPORTS MEDIA HUB option
10) Select the CUSTOM MUSIC option
11) This is where the magic happens. You should have 2 categories on this screen. Select BE A PRO GOAL & you'll get a prompt asking what you want to do. Select SELECT PLAYLIST & then find your created Playlist. Hit X.
12) Repeat step 11 for the MENU MUSIC option. You can even customize further by scrolling through the ALL LEAGUES screens by pressing R1 or L1.

I highly recommend anyone w/ EA sports games to do this. It really adds to the games. You'll no longer have to mute the game or mutilate your eardrums due to the shitty default music that EA uses. Enjoy!

Hey peafunk, is that song feature available for NHL 11 on all formats?  What system are you playing on?  I've got a 360 and I want to get this game for that feature alone!   8)

Thanks peafunk.  I haven't bought any new EA Sports games in a while, but this is going to make me have to go out and try this out!

My pleasure man! You won't be disappointed. Besides the awesome hockey action, I often leave the menu screen on while doing tedious housework. Instant Jacket mix!

I'm not gonna lie, I have been intrigued with the Casey Anthony trial.

She is gonna go down and I predict life without parole.  I don't agree with the strategy by the defense to drag the family threw the mud.  But I guess thats all they could really do is to try to deflect the attention away from an habitual liar with no credibilty.  I wish she took the stand so I could watch Ashton tear her apart.  Jose Baez screwed the pooch yesterday and blew any chance he had when he was questioning the fathers credibilty. The entire defense strategy was bizarre.

My brother hopes she gets life so he can marry her and get Conjugal visits. He says it would be the perfect girlfriend.  He's a little wierd ( or maybe not ) .  ;)

It seems my rambling shoes keep appearing at my doorstep, and I kind of thought I'd hung them up for a little while in Asheville!.....  I guess all it really boils down to is just my general itch of lacking privacy, and the un-support of my general lifestyle that I seem to get from my roommate.  I'm not gonna complain about him cause we're all different, etc, etc, but my spirit is feeling itchy again to get on outta here---though I *would* like to stay in Asheville, if possible!  Just get me outta this box  ::)  I do hope to find a more promising job (my job at the greenhouse is tapering a bit too much lately) and a much better housing situation in the very near future!  *crosses fingers!**

Or it's time to ramble on!  8)

Hahah probably!  There's so much food in Asheville I still haven't "caught up" with it all  :P  I'm waiting to check out Neo Cantina, just south of downtown... it looks like some delicious Mexican food.  I tried the one place "Papa's & Beer," and (despite all the hype it seems to get and the name that kind of freaks me out) it wasn't over-the-top..... Mad Mex in Pittsburgh still gets my highest vote....  But this Neo place sounds like the real deal--- local produce, cheese, and other ingredients + lots of avocado on the menu, surely it's got to be headie  8)

I've been angry with my roommates for awhile. Theyre all friends and its just me. We had an extended argument tonight that didnt make sense to either side. Pretty sure that I told them "go back to China if you dont like it" even though they run the house more than me, they didnt see my side.. Im mostly just sick of living under their rules, and its gotten quite annoying. They always bump the AC to 76, when Id like it at 72, and hell, we heated the house to 70 during the winter...Im pretty frustrated

they told me to wash dishes based on their note (see below), and here's what the kitchen looked like tonight

Shewt capt, I'm with ya on the roommate insanity.... thankfully my roommate just went away for a night last night and will be gone most of tomorrow.  Or else I was going to hike it somewhere and camp it off... I still might wind up doing that this week.  What the crap!

I'll be headin back home again in time for MMJ to rock the 'burgh though!!!  And the very house I departed from in the name of freedom will actually yield me a newly-gained freedom, miraculously enough!  Circuitous, if I do say so myself...........

Sorry to hear about your lame-o experience though, that's hard to live with---when do you think you'll be outta there??

Im outta here in like 3 weeks. I think I probably crossed the line with my posted comment, but it just got to a tipping point/level of frustration (as you can see by the pics), and even when the conversation made no headway after awhile, I pretty much lost it and went back to my room. Im just ready to get out of here.

Sweet that youll be back for the Jacket show, although my final is 8am in Altoona the morning after the show, so not sure if I can make it, which I never thought Id say for a Jacket show in the Burgh when Im still physically in PA :(

And that's cool you're outta there soon!!  I'm looking for a new gig when I get back from visiting in the 'burgh in August.....

Check out Murphy's law, my roommate is going to be FLYING TO PITTSBURGH to visit his family up there the same time that I'll be in Pittsburgh.  Not like, right now or anything.... nope, same time!  Hahah go figure.  I'm really finding a lot of nearby farms around here though, and for my birthday I'll be getting a new WWOOFing account, so hopefully when I come back, I can live and help out at a farm down here and still have a job in the meantime.  We'll see!   8)

Were you moving outta Pitt in 3 weeks?  Or just outta the place you're at now?

Sometimes I just want to get in my car and drive-- and keep on driving until I am far, far away. It's not that I don't love the people I love and my career and whatnot; it's that I feel the need to go. I don't have any destination in mind. I suppose it's a combination of chronic wanderlust and the realization that adulthood blows.

I was making my daughter's bed.  The ceiling fan kept blowing the sheet off center.  I got frustrated and kept trying to lift and lay the sheet down.  It went too high.  Moments later, my wife runs in to see what I was cussing about.

"What's wrong?" she asked.

"The sheet hit the fan!" I replied.

True story; just happened.

On paper, this won't mean much to you US folks: Canada's federal leader of the government's opposition, New Democrat Party's Jack Layton, died of cancer today. He was a really good guy, respected politician and admired by all, including our Progressive Conservative government. You don't hear "sincere" and "nice" attached to politicians anymore, but he was both. His death is a tremendous blow to Canada, democracy and national unity. In our last election last fall, Layton took the NDP from a fringe party to become the official opposition, for the first time in history. One day, he really could have made it to Prime Minister, which would be good news US - Canada relations, the environment, international diplomacy and the UN. I live in his political riding and my hood, city (he was once a respected Toronto city councillor) and country is in deep mourning.

I joined this forum, because a beautiful man that I met and fell in love with while in detox was the only other person I have met in real life that heard of My Morning Jacket (I live in a pretty lame town)... And even though I haven't seen this man in two months, and probably will never see him again, not a day goes by where I don't think about him... So not a day goes by where I don't think of My Morning Jacket, because with him comes the thoughts of all the short bits of happiness we got to share together... It finally found like someone understood what love is to me... Through the bands he liked, the movies he watched, the poems he read, down to the way that he seemed to always show up when my heart just happened to feel light. I am laying alone on my bed room floor in the dark as I write this. I have relapsed since getting out of detox and really lost myself entirely... I can barely remember what I want or what fufills me with so many of the things that captured me gone, so many of the people that called to my soul too far away to hear through all the space in the way :/// I feel as though my passion is dying, and that is quite sad, especially since this beautiful man I may never get to see again said that one of his favorite things about me was how passionate I made him feel... I used to walk around singing everywhere in detox, to no one in particular... God, perhaps, but just because, because my being felt connected to everything within and without me, and I had to sing about it... And in this state of disconnect, things are even sadder, as silence is all that fills my actions. Empty. Distilled. Drying up. I hope I find a miracle. And a man strong, creative, sweet man with big hands who will accept my crazy ass and ask lots of questions and want to know as much about me as possible, and will have the type of demeanor that makes me always want to know more about him, no matter how much I think I know, someone who will always keep my desire to learn and grow alive....

I miss... life...

Thanks for reading,
Well, I'm a happily married man, so you won't find romance with me.  But, I'd love to get to know you better, share in our love of MMJ and, likely, many other things.  The Forum is loaded with folks of all stripes, walks of life, states of mind, but one common thing is our love for great music.  So, don't give up, join up and share.  We love you already.  I hope to share a show with you, so come back and tell me more...

My name is John.  I'll be 49 on the 19th.  I'm married to a PhD toxicologist and have three daughters (7, 12, 14).  I was a high school science teacher and assistant principal for 20 years, but have spent the last two years recovering from a near-death experience.  This Forum has had a significant role in my life before major surgery nearly killed me.  Its been a HUGE factor in my recovery, as has this band that brought us here.  Oh, and I live in Iowa City.

Enough about me.  Where you from, seashelleyes12?

I hate complaining on social media but figured putting this out into this virtual world might help ease some of the weight.

My mom has gone through so much since my brother passed in 2001. She lost her home and several pets due to a fire in 2013, her home took 18 months to be built again by some crappy restoration company.  She got let go from her job after taking too long in their eyes to return to work.  My step-dad tells her she doesn't have to go back to work, they will make it. Then right after they get the house back, her husband then leaves her for some troll that was a friend of our family. With help from my wife and I, we help her apply for jobs and fill out online applications. Then her car breaks down. My wife and I buy her a truck that someone she knows is selling. She does find a job at Tractor Supply for $10/hour working 20-25/hrs week (enough to pay bills but she's on food stamps and is a regular visitor to the food bank).  Then, that truck's head gasket blows. She drives it but has to stop every so often to put water in (water, not coolant, because coolant got too expensive to buy).  That truck is too unsafe b/c she has to stop on the side of a 2 lane road in the middle of the night (she works at 5am & lives 25 miles from work).  We find her another car after looking for weeks.  Things are going better, she even gets full-time work now and can get benefits (she's been w/out insurance and her blood pressure meds since the divorce was finalized since Tricare apparently sucks at receiving applications.)  Then she calls me last night and tells me the car won't move and our family friend looks at and finds a transmission problem as well as milky oil in the air intake. This car may now be toast.

My wife and I are not rich, we're doing ok but now we have $4,000 gone in these two cars and she still doesn't have reliable safe transportation (and I can't NOT help my mother as I am her only child on this Earth but its hard when you have growing family of your own).  My mother is truly salt of the earth and cares so much for her friends/family and her pets. I keep reminding myself that we have many, many blessings but its been tough year or so seeing her struggle so much and keep seeing her take 1 step forward then 2 steps back.  She cries to me constantly that she feels like a burden and I do my best to keep her from beating herself up but it's just been a rough 14 months (really 15 years for her).  Hearing your mother cry all the time is devastating.

I will continue to remind her (and myself) of the great things we do have: each other, dear friends, a roof over our heads, food to eat, and relatively good health.  Thanks for taking time to read my complaints in this thing we call life.

Just a note to parkervb & to seashelleyes12 - there's not much I can do to help with either of your situations.  I don't think you're looking for help really, just a sympathetic ear.  Consider me one.  I feel for both of your situations, and hope they get better and soon.

If we ever run into each other at a show, I'll gladly buy you a beer and lend you my ear, in hopes of hearing a new tune, something where the weight has been significantly lifted hopefully!

thanks man. Yea, I just needed to get that off my chest so I could move on past being upset and start dealing with it.  It's just hard to see her struggle. We've been through so much together that it hurts my soul that she's still in a tough place at almost 60 years old.

Hey, parkervb.  I'm with you, brother.  Life can be tough.  Having somewhere to vent and commiserate is helpful.  I've found the Forum to be one such place.  Just as this community was here for me when I was suffering, we're here for you, if only to send you love, prayer, vibes, or whatever we have to give.  Take care.
