Pardon me if we've already got one of these threads stuck in limbo.
Desert Island Discs is a long-running BBC Radio 4 programme. It was first broadcast on 29 January 1942 and is said by the Guinness Book of Records to be the longest-running music programme in the history of radio. Guests are invited to imagine themselves castaways on a desert island, and to choose eight pieces of music to take with them; discussion of their choices permits a review of their life. They must also specify which one of these pieces they regard most highly. Aside from music, they are permitted one book, excluding the Bible or other religious work and the complete works of Shakespeare, which are already present on the island to force more original choices. They also choose one luxury which must be inanimate and of no survival value, though large supplies of champagne seem to be allowed.
I'll post mine sometime tonight, till then enjoy some choices by people far more interesting than myself - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desert_Island_Discs:_castaways%27_choices
Rod Steiger likes e. e. cummings? Doesn't seem like him. At least he didn't pick Walt Whitman.

I don't know if this is cheating, but I'd want a TV with cable that included at least Turner Classic Movies and Comedy Central (for Daily Show/Colbert Report and South Park, nothing else). If I can't have that, I want a tent to keep the bugs out. If I can have movies, I'll put up with the bugs.

Listen to this every week, rain or shine.
Don't want to be too anal about this, but the record choice is a single track (or movement in the case of classical music).
Luxury has to be useless for everyday life - acoustic guitar is fine (unless you want to use it for shelter or fire).
Don't give up your book. I mean, how long could you last with only Shakespeare and the Bible?

i thought i'd give it a little twist, picking only songs requires
way too much thought for my feeble brain.
:)
