Title: Radiohead
Post by: Sticky Icky Green Stuff on Dec 27, 2010, 07:20 PM
not sure if anybody has gotten a chance to check this out yet:

small mp4 version, for DVD go to link at the bottom.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ANEAT6TJ (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ANEAT6TJ)

from ateaseweb.com:
Early this year (January 12, 2010), Haiti was struck by a catastrophic earthquake. 12 days later Radiohead played a show at Los Angeles' Music Box, raising money for Oxfam's Haiti Earthquake and Recovery Fund. The show is now available on DVD.

With an attendance of 1400 people, Radiohead raised around half a million dollars with their 24-song set. You can still donate to the fund by downloading a multi-cam DVD of the show and donate at oxfamamerica.org/radiohead. The download of the show is free, and so is the accompanying artwork from Kii Arens, who also designed that beautiful poster. Radiohead fans joined forces with the help of the band to create this video document. Read all about it here, as well as the download of the DVD.

No, album is $9; $50 is for the "newspaper" version which has a lot of extras plus vinyl, CD, and digital.

Any luck yet? I hopped on pretty early this morning to pre-order the digital album and didn't have a problem...then I read some news feeds about the site crashing.

This is going to be a great weekend.  :)

I'm shocked they posted that on their site...I ordered the special edition for $53. I missed out on the In Rainbows special edition when it came out and I can't miss out on this one.

Summer tour??? Hopefully they post something soon.

These guys are amazing live....

it finally worked! yes.  I never buy music, but they deserve it since they're genius and starting a revolution.   this album is going to rooooock.

I betting this song will make the album for some reason, maybe all the newspaper themed stuff... anyway:

and I've heard rumors of this one as well:

thom yorke - cambridge - give up the ghost (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDl-oAiLL5U#ws)

I have a feeling it's going to be a heavily acoustic disc or it's going to be straight up gnarly rock.
Title: Re: Radiohead
Post by: kydiddle on Feb 14, 2011, 08:22 PM
I would take all three of those. :) It's hard to tell what the sound will be based on Thom doing it solo, but if it's acoustic that would be awesome. Gnarly rock? Even better!

This anticipation is a good feeling, though. I'm glad I don't have anything planned for Saturday afternoon.

I wonder if Kanye thinks it's the greatest video of ALL TIME!

The thing I love about that video is you don't know what he's doing. Is he making fun of the "Single Ladies" type performance or is he that much of an ego-maniac to put out a video of his killer dance moves?

I'd just like to assume that this is his everyday life, where he hangs and how he gets down. He didn't even realize a video was being filmed. Phil Selway, or Ed O'Brien probably just told a guy with a camera "You gotta check out Thom in his natural habitat, it's weird..." Let's hope they go to Johnny Greenwood's homestead next  ;)

...AAAAAAAND, we're rolling. Just downloaded the album and put my headphones on. I will not be taking any calls for the next hour, might get up for another cup of coffee, but will mostly just be pretending to work and giving The King Of Limbs a first listen.

I LOVE THIS BAND.

And I second the anticipation over a Summer Tour announcement. They are fuckin' amazing live.

so glad magpie made it on the record in the way it did.  talk about taking a song to the next level.  solid tunes.  some of the songs are pretty ballsy.  glad to welcome back a revived radiohead.  did not expect such an intense electronic album.  I can hear hints of the gloaming in there and other songs but it sounds so fresh for them.  diggin it immensely.

Me neither...the electronic rhythms and patterns are indescribably complex. Half-way through I labeled it as an album that would grow on me, but by the time I finished my mind seems to like it.

It's lovely and terrifying at the same time....honestly, until I get used to this album, I'm not going to listen to it alone in the dark....

my first listen of bloom I thought it was pure debauchery.  it took a few listens to feel right.  Feral was the same way.  so far out there.  tomorrow I'm going to add "these are my twisted words" to the tracklist just to make it a longer listen.  maybe harry patch too.

I paid for the higher quality format over the mp3 and it still sounds terrible in my car. The bass is way to high and rattles my speakers terribly, i don't think i can adjust the bass on my cd player, it only has options like natural, dynamic, vocal boost, and bass boost. Also when i put the file into itunes the song titles were all one word with numbers in front of them and band and album title weren't labeled, when i fixed all that the songs went out of order and into alphabetical order, i don't know how to change it back. Anyone else having any issues and knows how to help me?
Title: Re: Radiohead
Post by: ManNamedTruth on Feb 19, 2011, 01:18 AM
OK so some of the songs don't sound as bad as others but the rattling is interfering with my enjoyment of this album. None of my other cd's sound this way. As far as The King Of Limbs goes.... I wasn't thrilled about it on my first listen but it's growing on me quickly now.

it was f'ing with my earbuds today also MNT.  I thought my earbuds were blown because of the crackly sound.  I think they just have the mix too loud.  they probably want it played thru some thousand dollar super sound system with 8 subwoofers and tweeters galore.  fucking snobs, how dare they make their shit thump so hard.

I appreciate this album, for Radiohead changin things up; wearing their love for dub-step electronica on their sleeve. Some interesting, funky and dark stuff here. However, this will probably rank as my 2nd least favorite album, in front of Pablo, trailing the tie btw bends/thief. Note least favorite still has the word favor in it  ;)

.....as always it needs time and I need to probably study it a bit more but all in all, to me there is a lack of radiohead magic to this one.

I never excpect them to be able to top their top 3: OK, A, Rainbows

I am listeing now and it occured to me that

Summoning up the chaotic crashing of atoms with heavily-produced ghostlike vocals and a glitchy, technological driven tic, "Feral" is exactly as titled–a jerking, practically rabid ditty with a psychotic percussive shuffle.

I just read that the CD will be available in stores March 28, maybe the mix will be better then. They did this on purpose so people pay for it twice.

I listened to it a few times yesterday, all at work. My first thought was that Flying Lotus rubbed off on Thom in a pretty big way, which for me, is a very good thing. My next thought was that it was a "warm, fuzzy blanket" kind of album, or whatever we called that thread. There is some absolutely beautiful music on there, especially Codex and Separator. I thought the sound was great, just wish it was longer.

I'll give it some more attention when there aren't babies screaming at me.

Yea there seems to be divergence on that album. To me IR may be my 2nd favorite behind Ok Computer. I will give TKOL in close contention with In Rainbows as being their sexiest album :-*

This may be too large of a claim, but today Separator may have become one of my favorite Radiohead songs...

The raw vocals on Give Up The Ghost are just beyond...and the unbelievably complex subtleties throughout this thing keep coming out of nowhere. It doesn't seem as uneven and jarring as the first listen did anymore.

By a huge stroke of luck and being in the right place at the right time, I got to see one of the Roseland Ballroom Radiohead shows last week (Thurs. night).

They were absolutely stunning.  I'm a big fan of the new record, and we delighted to hear that material live.  I think one of the most interesting things about them is how they translate these largely electronic songs from the records into big guitar rock songs live, and the new material was great in that respect.

Very much looking forward to a larger tour in 2012.

Radiohead is probably the hardest concert ticket to score.  at least that's been my experience with them and I've been into them since the fake plastic trees video aired.  before In Rainbows they did that theater tour and I tried for multiple dates and was still locked out.   W.A.S.T.E. puts the presales out at like 4 or 5am EST time because they do it all via england time or whatever.  should be a really upbeat tour for those going to these shows from the things I've read it sounds like it's going to be mostly In Rainbows/King Of Limbs with rarities sprinkled in rather than the popular hits.  should be interesting.

is Clive touring with them?

I read that the reason they waited so long to tour was because Clive had other things going on, so I would assume he is.

couldn't be better news if you ask me.  I'd really love to hear clive on the gloaming or backdrifts or kid a or idioteque... so many possibilities for the intense electronic songs they barely ever play.

Radiohead have revealed more on their upcoming tour. Ed O'Brien talked about their 2012 tour with BBC 6Music.

Ed O'Brien spoke with with 6Music on their current live set: "I think the important thing is that it's got to be a set in itself, it's got to work. Last time we went out, it felt very much like In Rainbows plus the greatest hits. And it's not going to be like that this time. I guess it's going to be predominantly from this record and the last record, and then see which songs fit around that."

When asked when the tour should take place: "We're just finalizing dates for next year that will run from the end of february to i guess november. We'll be in the UK, we'll be in the US, the usual ports of call."

And on the type of venues the band will be playing: "Some of the shows will be outside, but the ones in Europe will are gonna be inside and I think that's very much a reaction to when we played last time, we did all outside shows. We played in the height of summer and compromised our production. We'd like to give Andi, our lighting guy a good crack of the whip of the production. Outdoor gigs can be great, but the sound can get diluted a bit. You miss the bass as well. Outside gigs can be the gigs, but you're at the mercy of the elements and I think the record demands a space where the music is loud, strong and detailed."

I just posted this in the Wilco thread. Same question, different band. The only difference is that I dont know Radiohead too well at all, outside some big Ok Computer and In Rainbows songs

"Got a question for you guys:
I'm trying to convince my lady that Wilco will be her second favorite modern band, and she's trying to convince me the same of Radiohead. What is your favorite song for a mix - and why? Im still in my discovery phase myself, and just keep saying "Yankee hotel foxtrot is perfect". I want to make a mix, but don't feel I'm entitled to do so because I don't even own Wilco (the album) or Sky Blue Sky.  I find if there is a reason why it's awesome, a small musical detail or lyric, it's easier to jump into. For example, if I was to tell someone to listen to jacket I could say "listen to dondante - because when the "you had me worried" part kicks in, it's amazing.

Also, if you like Radiohead, head to that thread for the same post :)"

Big fan of Radiohead also and just got tickets to see them in St. Louis.

-The climax of "Fake Plastic Trees" (The Bends).  I really love all of that album.
-The bridge and finish of "Let Down"(OK Computer) when he sings "some day I am gonna grow wings......" and his voice is double tracked behind it and he is wailing a melody (no words) along with.  It is gorgeous.
-"Paranoid Android"(OK Comp) the part when he is singing "rain down, rain down, come on rain down on me", once again with humming behind it.
-"How To Disappear Completely" - a dreary song that bursts out with emotion toward the end with Thom Yorke wailing once again and the strings swelling behind him.
-"2+2=5"(Hail to the Thief)- rocks at the end "you have not been...paying attention, paying attention"
-"Where I End and You Begin"(Hail ttThief)- LOVE the bass in this song and then "I will eat you alive.." at the end.
-"There There" (Hail tt Thief) - a mellow song with cool bongos really busts out at the end after the "why so green and lonely, lonely....heaven sent you to me, to me" part.  Goosebumps every time.
-"Like Spinning Plates" (I Might Be Wrong - Live Recordings)- Haunting piano tune that is way different than the version on Amnesiac.

Radiohead's great songs are beyond stellar.  But when I listen to their albums, there are always songs I skip.  They're just too maudlin.  But the songs that are so good propel Radiohead into one of my top 5 favorite bands.  I've seen them a few times and hope they add a show to my area because they are not to be missed.  Even though a bunch of King of Limbs songs are "skipable" in my opinion, they were really good on the recent From The Basement show on Palladia (which is coming out on DVD).

Standout tracks that all sound very different and a varied mix of their soun:  Sweet Spirit (Thom singing "Fade Out Again" could get one hooked like "you had me worried" has the ability to), Myxomatosis, Jigsaw Falling Into Place, Optimistic, Airbag, Electioneering.... so many good ones.

Im not a big radiohead fan at all, so how many of those songs ARENT on In Rainbows or That One New Shitty Album? I heard they were only playing from that. I recognize a handful from older records. I'm seeing them in St. Louis. I'm not that excited but I do have some nice goodies left over from a Pink Floyd cover show, so I'll have a good time regardless.

I check every day hoping Radiohead announces shows in the East.  Maybe they will add some before or after 'Roo?  I haven't heard any rumors.  If not, I'll be bummed I didn't travel to see them in FLA or St. Louis.

Not every song of theirs is great, but the band is brilliant.  The songs that are good are insanely good. The shows for the most part rock but also do get a little maudlin at times.   It has been a few years, but every time I leave the show I'm way up for seeing them again and listening to all their stuff.  And the lighting they have is usually cool.

Even if the new stuff isn't ones cup of tea, they are a unique band and worth seeing.  Check out Staircase for an awesome new song they'll probably play.

on that tape for last night thom says multiple times that they have over 70songs banked for this tour.  that's a lot for them.  figure you'll probably get King Of Limbs + Daily Mail and Staircase then everything else will be random.  last night was the first time they've ever played "meeting in the aisle" live EVER.  it use to be their intro for one of their tours but it was a taped version.  plus they busted out two brand new songs Cut A Hole and Identikit.  even being completely shitty audio quality wise that set made me feel like I was tripping out by the end of it.  it was smartly built, unfortunately the fans on the tape do not sound too bright or intelligent when it comes to radiohead and their actual catalog.  only complaint is the show was too short.

right, they go on sale through something called W.A.S.T.E. on thursday, but not through ticketmaster til saturday.  from what i've gathered anybody can purchase through W.A.S.T.E., they just need to sign up for an account (as far as i can tell, it's just what they sell all of their merchandise/tickets through).

hope some of that is helpful.

Not to mention that Riverbend is probably the most attractive venue on that whole tour. I've only seen a few shows there, but they've all been great. The whole place I found pretty damn nice, and the intimacy of the pit is amazing. It doesn't even seem fair comparing that venue with the venue for the show in Toronto, Downsview Park, which is just a huge-ass flat field that fits 40,000.

This is worth trying, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.  I never have been able to get tix thru W.A.S.T.E.   Maybe I have bad luck, but I have been on there right on time. Hopefully they have a greater supply for this tour.  Pit seems to be all GA with a paperless ticket.

Bit of a bizarre question, but does anyone know how to sign up to these atease Radiohead message boards? I've been trying for days now, get the validation e-mail and activate my account, but says I'm forbidden from accessing the boards, and can't even find an administrator e-mail. If anyone is a member, could you check to see if the admins have an e-mail address kickin' around? Thanks so much!

Or if there's a better Radiohead board around, I'd be happy to hear about it!

hmm, I know the messageboard is separate from the webpage so you have to register for the board on the forum page.  I'm looking and I don't see e-mails, maybe try messaging them through facebook? https://www.facebook.com/radioheadnews (https://www.facebook.com/radioheadnews)

http://www.greenplastic.com/ (http://www.greenplastic.com/) is ateases rival.  never went there, atease always seemed cooler to me.

I was taking a shower yesterday and listening to In Rainbows. Nude came on and I just about had a religious experience. Also, I'm just now realizing that I was nude because I was showering, but thats besides the point. Its taken everything I have to get into Radiohead so far, and I only like 3 albums a lot. But, for some reason, this vocally charged track and the Thom voice layering just clicked out of no where, and I thought it was one of the most beautiful songs I'd ever heard.

Radiohead Announces 'OKNOTOK' Reissue Of 1997 Masterpiece 'OK COMPUTER'

English rockers Radiohead will celebrate the 20th anniversary of their landmark OK COMPUTER studio album with the upcoming release of OKNOTOK on June 23. OKNOTOK will feature the original album, eight B-sides and three previously unreleased tracks.

The 20th anniversary edition of OK COMPUTER is available for pre-order in a variety of formats here. All versions of OKNOTOK include the previously unreleased tracks "I Promise," "Lift," and "Man Of War." For completists, there is an OKNOTOK BOXED EDITION containing the following:

Three heavyweight 180 gram black 12″ vinyl records and a hardcover book containing more than thirty artworks (many of which have never been seen before) and full lyrics to all the tracks (except the ones that haven't really got any lyrics). Under this weighty tome are yet more surprises: a notebook containing 104 pages from Thom Yorke's library of scrawled notes of the time, a sketchbook containing 48 pages of Donwood and Tchock's 'preparatory work' and a C90 cassette mix tape compiled by the band, taken from OK COMPUTER session archives and demo tapes.

While digital formats, double CD and triple 180g LP versions of OKNOTOK are due on June 23, the box set will be issued in July.

I am in for Cincinnati!!

pulled upper level on the side but close to stage.
even went back in and pulled 2 for my friends near the back upper level.

Floor is all GA and I'd rather not be packed in and unable to see so I went for seats only. I'd rather have a seat even if I'm not sitting.

there's no option for mailing real tickets or even for printing at home. Only sent to the phone and there is no transferring of tickets. Good way to avoid scalpers I guess, but I don't see how they're going to check everyone's ID on entry.

I don't think they will, you'll have to have the ticket on your phone in the app to get in, they'll just scan the barcode on the phone. I could be wrong about this, but I am pretty sure taking a screen shot and sending the screen shot to someone else will not work. You must be logged into your actual account with the app to get in the doors.

ok thanks. I sent 2 screenshots for my friends who I bought for but told them I may have to go in with one of them.

I just went back in to see what I'd pull and now there's tons of seats listed as ticketmaster verified tickets, but at face value. Like they bought up a lot of them to sell this way. Maybe the fees are higher but for now they're at $65 and $85 which was face value.

I got a ticket for the Cincinnati show. I'm in Section 239, Row G, Seat 1 (not the best but only 2 sections away from being dead-center as you face the stage - I'll be happy with that, I guess).

don't take my comments as fact, this is just what I remember (my memory has failed me before). You may be able to have them log into your account on their phone. Or they make be checking IDs, if that's what they indicated they would do. That does seem crazy, but who knows.

This was my first time lucking out with WASTE tickets.  I got in for Philly and am very excited.  I'm going to try TM for one of the NYC shows.  I have a feeling they'll add a fourth show to fill the gap in their schedule.  Not surprisingly, they just added a second Chicago show to fill a similar gap.

Well, I checked again just now, and there were some real good seats available in the lower arena directly opposite the stage (Section 140, Row E), so I grabbed two. That means I will have my original seat for sale if anyone wants to buy it. Just let me know.
